The Greek philosopher, Heraclitus, is quoted as saying “change is the only constant in life.” Boy, isn’t that the truth. Seasons change. Careers change. Rules change. Friends and neighbors change. Even the Montgomery/Brown’s Bridge intersection changed. Our lifestyle and habits certainly have changed in the past 18 months too. Some say the change is harder as one gets older or you cannot teach an old dog new tricks. Yet here we are adapting every day to the changes around us. And doing a pretty good job at it too!

The phase 1 residents who have been here 10 + years have seen plenty of changes right here within our own Cresswind gates. In the five years I have been here, I have seen this community grow from 700 plus homes with prospective buyers coming and going, to a fully built out stable community of 940 residences. And now I am seeing some of those people move on again. Change. It is all around us.

I want to give a shout out to all of you for your adaptability to change. You are still here, smiling and embracing the best that Cresswind has to offer. And as time goes on and changes arise, we will continue to accommodate them the best way possible because we are Cresswind Strong!

By Dan Gershkovitz Perseverance and Expectations: Cresswind at Its Best

The experts define the terms “Perseverance” and “Expectations” as follows: Perseverance - continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulties, failure, or opposition - the action or condition or insistence or persevering -: steadfastness Expectations - the act or state of mind looking forward to something good happening: what you believe or hope will happen in the future Perseverance and Expectations – These terms are not new to us, as each of us has experienced, lived, and have benefited or changed because of them. From Cresswind’s earliest days, Perseverance and Expectations were the watchwords and actions of our Original Residents. The troubling and tumultuous times set the stage and tone during those years. Their strength and commitment held this community together which again gained a new lease on life when the Kolter Developers had the foresight, energy, and perseverance, to reset the expectations for our community. The die had been cast at that point and we can all look back at those days and actions and regale at how our community has evolved, grown, and permitted each of us to have our dreams, aspirations, and expectations fulfilled. This dedication and commitment continue today as many of the original founding families have commenced the Heritage workgroup to capture, organize, and prepare documents to memorialize and recount our past. Hopefully, we will add new residents to this effort to continue this effort and carry it through to the present to maintain the history and chronology of our great Cresswind Community We need to be grateful for the path that our community has traversed with the participation of all our residents. We also need not forget our recent and ongoing battle with COVID-19 and the current battle with the offshoot virus strains which are now returning with a vengeance and ferocity not seen in recent memory. Additionally, our community, including Hall County and the City of Gainesville have become the beneficiaries of our resident’s benevolence, community involvement, support, and volunteerism. We have always had high expectations for ourselves, and we continue to persevere in our efforts to better assist our residents and local area needs. We all somehow arrived at Cresswind over the years and brought with us our experiences, expertise, expectations, and enthusiasm for what lies ahead. Our prior lives begin to fade away as we embrace all Cresswind has to offer and continue to strive to improve our community to be better every day. It is the relentless perseverance of excellence and community which drive and motivates our actions – New Clubs – New Events – New Experiences – New Adventures - these result from our collective energies and spirit. As we enter the fall of 2021, we have developed our respective expectations for ourselves, our families and friends, and our community. We have also put on hold many actions and activities with the expectations that we would be able to realize them in the upcoming months: the reality is we may be able to pursue our individual dreams, but with more detailed planning as we watch the growing concerns with the spread of the Covid – 19 Delta Variant. I believe we will address this new virus strain as we have in the past with vigilance, proper behaviors and attitudes, and concern for one another.

We all need to be able to accept whatever challenges we individually or collectively will be confronting in the months ahead. They are not known to us now, so our responses will have to evolve as we confront what life throws our way. Our resilience, fortitude, perseverance, support networks, and inner personal strength have helped us through those dark times. Our greatest successes evolve from the worst and most difficult of times. We need to remember that each of us in own way will experience some difficult times and can benefit from the care and concern we have and express towards each other.

Going forward, let us commit to be a bit more caring, sharing, compassionate, and committed to be the best we can be for ourselves, our community, and our neighbors.
