Getting to Know Pickleball with Mike conlon
Pickleball has rapidly gained popularity in recent years. It is a fun and easy-to-learn game that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping pong. Pickleball is played on a court that is about one-third the size of a tennis court. Players use paddles to hit a plastic ball. Players typically play games to 11 points and may play several games in one session. One of the reasons pickleball has become so popular is that it is a relatively low-impact sport, making it a great option for people who want to stay active but may have joint or mobility issues. It also requires less space and equipment than most other sports, making it both accessible and affordable.
The social aspect of pickleball is also what attracts people of all ages and from diverse backgrounds. If you’re curious, please stop by, check out the scene, I’m sure you’ll meet some great new folks.
Here are a few key pointers to keep in mind when getting started: • Have the right kind of footwear, they make pickleball shoes, tennis shoes also work fine for pickleball. This will prevent injury

• I recommend protective eyewear, it’s not likely, but a ball could deflect into your eye and cause a significant eye injury. you can wear sunglasses, safety glasses, even bare frames with lenses removed to provide eye protection.
• Equipment: find balls specific to outdoor play for use at Hamilton Mill courts. franklin x-40 balls are popular and readily available at sporting goods stores and online. Paddles vary in price and quality, but you can get started with a good paddle for between $50 and $100. When ready to upgrade, i can help guide you in the right direction to find the paddle that best suits your game.
• Pickleball rules are not that difficult to learn and follow, once you’ve gotten to play a few games. I find it helpful to go on youtube and watch some short videos. In about 15 minutes you’ll have a basic understanding.
• Get out and play - we have clinics and open play programs for players of all levels. Within 30 minutes, you can be playing real games. i can help further your game with private coaching and group lessons too.
