you for letting me live my dream”

After a 10-year-run at Reunion’s Meeting House, the curtain closed on the Empty Nester Actors Guild in April’s meeting, as founder, producer & director Merridee Michelsen emotionally thanked her neighbors for their support over the past 10 years.

Michelsen, ever the producer, worked with the newly formed company Sally Quinn Studios to create a permanent DVD of the “Decade of Drama”. That video was shown to an audience of about 60 attendees (many of whom had starred in or worked on the production of these plays). It was met with both laughter and applause!

Michelsen went on to call the Empty Nester drama productions “…one of the most challenging and yet inspirational times in my life, and it was the dedication of performers and the support of those behind the scene, including audiences, year after year that gave me the opportunity to live my dream.”

Merridee’s troupe of Empty Nesters and another dozen or so stagehands (all Reunion volunteers) began with the name Nester Theatre and morphed over ten years to become known as the Reunion Empty Nester Actors Guild. Merridee, who has her doctorate as an educational psychologist, spent countless hours writing, producing and directing shows including Grease, The Odd Couple, Steel Magnolias, Damn Yankees and The Music Man.

The Empty Nesters meet on the third Saturday evening each month (except for June & July), and we’d love to have you join us. The only qualification: no dependent kids at home. We welcome singles and couples of any age who fall into this category. For information, contact Joanne Giel, one of the Empty Nester co-chairs, at joannegiel@yahoo.com
