A MONTH-LONG INSTALLATION OF MUSIC, FOOD, HISTORICALLY INSPIRED MURALS, AND SHOPPING ON THE WEST JACKSON STREET CORRIDOR IN THOMASVILLE, GA

MUSIC • FOOD • ART • AWARDS WEST JACKSON BETWEEN MADISON AND OAK • THOMASVILLEARTS.ORG

As we move into our fourth year of FLAUNT, we realize more and more that this event is about community involvement, teamwork and elevating the thing we are most proud of: historic downtown Thomasville. FLAUNT Pop It Up! is all about popping up the creative district with a vision of “what could be.” Based on the Design Charette community dialogue this spring, we have created pop up experiences based on what you want! Kicking off September 5th, downtown will pop with temporary shops, art, performances, and cafes… your top picks! The future looks bright – yellow FLAUNT bright – for creative possibilities in the future. This month-long installation wouldn’t be possible without the support of this year’s presenting sponsor, Hurst Boiler Company. We want to thank them, and all of our amazing sponsors for their encouragement to press on with our mission. I can honestly say that this has been the most fun I’ve had in years…. meeting new townies, connecting them with artists, and working with a committee that is passionate about helping define the creative district and enhancing our already vibrant downtown. JOIN US at the Opening Night party and take it all in! Shop at the shop hops and enjoy the street performances. Grab a bike and take a cruise through history with the mural exhibition. Enjoy the ride! Darlene Crosby Blackman Public Art Director published by

ART FLAUNT: Pop It Up! celebrates public art

with a month-long exhibition, soon to pop on Remington Avenue and Jackson and Madison Streets. Both regional artists and Thomasville’s new Young Artist Collective will separately compete in a mural contest, totaling to over thirty murals soon to be seen in the creative district. Each artist has been given a historic image, courtesy of the Thomas County Historical Society and the Jack Hadley Black History Museum; these images will be the source of inspiration for each 12 x 15 temporary canvas mural. Winners in each division will take home $1,000 and a THOM Magazine feature; first runners up will receive $500. We welcome these artists to our community and we thank them for their hard work and energy needed to create these larger-than-life pieces of art. We also thank Lowe’s for supplying each canvas featured in the exhibition. The mural installation will begin September 2nd - 3rd and the winner from each division will be announced at the Opening Night party on September 5th. To view the original images, please visit the Historical Photography Exhibit at Trinity Anglican Church, Monday-Thursday 10am-3pm.
