lory conquers the Freedom of Liberty, Heroism of Valour, Equity of Justice, Strength of Fortitude, Candor of Loyalty and Moral of Righteousness. What else can we say? The Risen Legends remains on the throne again. Determined to defend their crown and would not let anyone get on their way. All have witnessed the success of the university-wide event of the legendary legacy for the Game of Thrones’ Intramurals as College of Policy Studies, Education and Management (CPSEM) , College of Industrial and Information Technology (CIIT), College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA) played for what
they are fighting for. Representatives of every unit were persistent enough to win, but only one stood out. Cheers from the audience dominated even to the very corners of the university gym after the proclamation of the throne and the Risen Legends, still undefeated for their four consecutive years of triumph and conquest over the other colleges. On the first day, people waited for the cheerleading competition. CEA with their ever triumphant motif colors maroon, gold and white showed off their heartbreaking stunts and breathtaking pyramids that earned thunderous claps and roaring cheers from the audience of various units. Although they experienced failure in other events, still they were the Extra Curricular Champion, Sports Division Champion and the much
coveted title as the Overall Champion of this year’s intramurals. Before the announcement, a female student from CEA said, “Murag daog man gyapon karon nga year ang CEA kay daghan sila nadag-an nga extra curricular activities”. The supporters were so confident that their representatives will definitely win. All of the sweats that came out of their glands, the countless efforts, sleepless nights, topsy-turvy preparations and the undeniable hardships that they have encountered during the competition were paid off with the title of the unbeatable. Five feet tall trophy was given to them on the awarding ceremony proving once again their almighty reign.

he battle of the Game of thrones is winding down, and it is time to start proclaiming this year’s MVP. The athletic facet solely fights for the arenas they belong. Certainly, they had been heralded as sports demigod by catching the fires and raising their kingdoms. The potency to surpass the challenged had defeated the contenders. Thus, the sports enthusiast carries their shield and sword besides the thrones they are fighting for. The Lord and Lady of the Ring Truly, the Lord and Lady of the Ring from Unit 1- CIIT shook up the basketball arena upon winning the throne of MVP in basketball men and women category. Kier Michael Balat defended the twice-to-beat elimination system. According to Balat, “I’m grateful that God helped me through the game.” Furthermore, Julie Ann Tantoy the lady of the ring proved that she could also sit on the MVP throne. They believed that to be an MVP, a player must play with passion and stay persistent to what he is fighting for. Our Lord and Lady of basketball are both fighting

2 The Trailblazer Who Really Deserves The Iron Throne? The Official Student Publication of Mindanao University of Science and Technology
EDITORIAL
I
ntramurals has always been a battle of who is the fittest and fiercest among the seven fighting kingdoms each battling for the thing they think they deserve. Within the walls of the seven hopefuls is the eagerness of each participant to win and get the iron throne. Legends fight for glory, Guardians fight for righteousness, Phoenixes fight for valour, Wizards fight for fortitude, Olympians fight for loyalty, Archers fight for justice and Knights fight for liberty. The rebellion began as the four colleges and three satellite campuses aim to occupy the iron throne and rule the other contenders of Intramurals 2014. Last September 24-27, Mindanao University of Science and Technology (MUST) celebrated intramurals with the theme Game of Thrones: What Are You Fighting For? This showcased the athletic capabilities of the participants joining the different sports and recreational activities. But what really are they fighting for? Are they fighting to know who is great and who is not? Are they struggling on behalf of their team? Are they combatting to prove that they are really strong over the other contenders? We believe that each college knows what they are fighting for and that will
remain a mystery. The purpose of this is neither to contradict the decision of the judges or the tabulators nor to make an issue that does not exist; the main point of this editorial is to know why is it that the event that is supposedly a test of true camaraderie and companionship turned like a pure competition over the crown. Is it really the crown that matters not the relationship built? Before Intramurals celebration starts there will be this intensive preparation made not only by colleges, but also the staff who work day and night to give the students what they deserve to experience. Thus, coming up with a theme is part of it. There are meetings and final preparations to polish the overall flow of the program including the trophies and awards that will be set to each winning participants. However, why is it that even the committee does not know that a certain award must be given? Are they even aware that these flaws will result to a chaotic bond between student-leaders? What will happen now that even the student-leaders, whom typical students look up to, were on rocky situation because of an honest mistake? During the awarding ceremony last September 27, College of Engineering and Architecture who fights for glory bagged the trophy as the over-all champion of Intramurals 2014. There were cheers and loud applauds from the winning team because all their efforts were being paid off. But, the announcement just end there, and the succeeding ranks were not duly announced. Knowing that each college exerted their efforts and sacrificed their time for practices, it was a total shock and dismay for them. College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) president Joshua Waban and Supreme Student Council (SSC) president Danica Tacbas had confrontation after the awarding that resulted to unwanted insults and embarrassment. According to Waban, Tacbas was so abrupt in saying that he was dull who could not understand that it was merely an honest mistake of SSC and not a favouritism thing. Waban believed that they are not greedy on the trophy, thus CAS deserve it. “It’s the honor that we are fighting for. Even the acknowledgment of our college wala, wala pa gani trophy,
Blazing Guardians win men and women basketball title

eeting at an intense-filled MUST Gymnasium, the Blazing Guardians stood undefeated in the basketball men and women championship match against Risen Legends and Oroquieta Archers, respectively. At the beginning of the first quarter of the men’s division, the Risen Legends took the lead with four points against the Blazing Guardians’ two points, but by the end of the game, the Guardians rushed shooting for 2-point and 1-point shots locking their dominion with 12 points against the Legends’ eight points at the end of the quarter. However, the Risen Legends were still at their game, running after CIIT’s 4-point lead in the second quarter. Aware of the contenders’ persistence to get a turn, the Blazing Guardians showered the ring with a combination of 2 and 1-point shots mostly given by free throws from their brood which broke the momentum of the other team at a tight-fisting 41 points against their 42 points in the third quarter. At the last minute of the fourth quarter, the Risen Legends employed a different strategy to beat the Guardians’ 64 over 60 advantage by
blocking each of the other team’s players with their own, but the Guardians turned it down with speed and excellent passing coordination, ultimately sending them to victory with 66 points against the Risen Legends’ 63. The road for the first place finish in the basketball women’s division featured the CIIT Blazing Guardians and the Oroquieta Campus Archers. The Archers opened the match bruising their way against the Guardians and controlled the first quarter with a 13 – 10 advantage. However, the first half ended 21 – 18 to CIIT’s favor. On the third quarter, the Guardians locked down in defense as they only allowed the Archers to score two points in the entire eight minutes. Solid contributions from their team caused their lead to balloon in the third quarter which ended 34 – 20. A couple of baskets was all taken for CIIT to nail their victory against the Oroquieta campus as the latter failed to mount a successful comeback in an attempt to steal the game. The game ended with the final score 38 – 26.
wla pa juy announcement(...) Ma orient unta sya (Tacbas) unsa ang pag behave properly in public nga murag dili squatter, especially nga student-leader sya”, Waban added. During the interview, Tacbas said that it was not the intention of the SSC not to give any trophy because they (SSC officers) did not know that overall awardees must receive a trophy. ”Insulto pud kaayu na i-announce ang list(...) ang akung thinking dili nami mag-award tungod kay wala man pud silay trophy(...)kung unsa lang ang nay trophy mao lang pud ang among gibasa, that was an honest mistake”. She cleared that the only mistake of SSC is their incompetence in not knowing that certain trophy and acknowledgment must be given. Each college has values that one is fighting for. This means that the trophy is just secondary, however, the trophy and acknowledgment that the other college wish to have is also a good thing to thank all the participants who unselfishly participated. Requesting for it is not about a full of yourself, but a motivation to the team that they have accomplished something out of what they did. Medals, crowns, trophies, and acknowledgements are nothing compared to the relationship you once treasured. Remember, college experiences are just for four to five years, after that, you will see each other in the new world out of the realms of MUST and you will just laugh how childish you are for doing such. Moreover, it is neither about who gains the loudest cheer and who gains the least, it is not about who wins and who loses, nor about being on top and having the iron throne you fight for. Celebrating intramurals is all about maintaining the relationship despite of the point system. That is the great glory.
Oroquieta spikers hit golds in volleyball

mplified by the screams and chants from a surrounding crowd’s excitement, the final matches of the men and women volleyball game became one of MUST Intramural Games highlight as the Oroquieta spikers hit golds against their foes. Even at the beginning of the 1st set of the championship match, the twice-to-beat standing of the Archers in the men’s finals was already showing a threat to the winning streak of CEA Risen Legends, but they managed to be on the lead at the end of the 1st set with 25 over 20. Discharging a series of overhead spikes and double hits, the Archers took the Legends’ place in the 2nd and 3rd sets on their 25th point mark against the Legends’ 13 and 23 respectively. The Archers had enough resilience to meet a wave of forceful attacks from an optimistic Risen Legends with a goal to spoil their twice-to-beat advantage, but to no avail, lagged behind with 15 points in the fourth set against the Archers’ 21 points. On the other side of the court, the Oroquieta campus Archers faced off against the CPSEM Blue Phoenix for their winner take all match in the volleyball women’s division. The scorching sun didn’t stop the Archers as they trample the Blue Phoenix in their 3 sets match last September 27. Oroquieta started the first set waxing hot on the field. A scoring spurt by the Blue Phoenix trimmed the Archers lead in the middle of the first set. However, the Archers got back on their feet to stop the Phoenix’s momentum and sealed the first set in their favor 25 – 13. The Archers finally sealed the fate of the Blue Phoenix as they dominated them in the 2nd set scoring in bunches. Second set ended with the score 25 – 9. With the second set victory, the entire game was bagged by Oroquieta 2 sets to none.

he protective shade of MUST Gymnasium resigned to the ascending heat of the table tennis championship match ignited between the CPSEM Blue Phoenix and the Panaon Yellow Knights on the men’s division back-to-back with the CEA Risen Lady Legends against the CAS Lady Wizards on Table two. Straight from their matches prior to the final set, both teams competing on the men’s division swept through the onset of the first singles match with a non-retreating rush of adrenaline which the Blue Phoenixes proved to have more of leading to their 9-point lead in the first set. Yellow Knight strikers geared up a strategy, employing a tougher series of counter-attacks. However, the Blue Phoenixes found an easy finishing advantage with many of Panaon’s off court serves permitting the former to snatch round one.
On the other hand, Panaon managed a 2-point lead during the first minute of the second singles match and was also able to lock a 4-point tie with the Blue Phoenixes. It was in the latter part of the match that the Blue Phoenixes broke the tie with a 4-point score advantage towards the end. CAS bagged the Table Tennis Women Division Championship against CEA. Ace players of CAS, Montero and Litang, greatly displayed excellence by outscoring CEA players in the singles match lagging them far behind. The game lasted for four sets of games, three of which are won by Green Wizards. The 1st, 2nd and 4th sets were all singles match and the 3rd was the only doubles. Victorino and Go won the doubles though unfortunately it had not lifted up the score of CEA against CAS apparent prevalence.

Risen Legends Remains on Top Just like any other competitors, the cheerleaders from the different houses fought for the 2014 Cheerdance Competition. Each house prepared his risk taking stunts and jaw-dropping routines to prove that he deserves the throne. Every house’s performance was indeed breath-taking and mind blowing but not all participants were able to make it through. Showing off their impressive moves and tosses brought the College of Industrial and Information Technology (CIIT) and College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) on the 2nd place and 3rd place respectively. Dancing their souls out, College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA) remains the defending champion in the said competition making it a back-to-back victory on their part. CEA, CAS Sway with Glory and Fortitude Fighting for glory and fortitude, the College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA) and the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) swayed in tune with Latin-American and Modern Standard in the Dance Sport Competition held at Limketkai Mall. Each category was participated by three differents houses namely, CEA, CAS and Oroquieta. Dancing gracefully in the crowd, the three couples for each category gathered applause and wows from the audience. In the Modern Standard category, CEA was able to bring home not just the glory but as well as the trophy for the said event. CAS and Oroquieta still managed to be on the 2nd and 3rd places. On the other hand, CAS brought home the bacon with fortitude while CEA and Oroquieta placed 2nd and 3rd. K-POP goes to MUST K-POP invasion has reached the border of our university’s kingdom. 11 K-POP die hard fan groups joined the competition for the Best K-POP dance cover. Embossed with colorful costumes, the dancers flaunted their K-POP spirit with poise and danced the way their bias do. Judged by the choreography, musicality and creativity, the Pink Iris, Sydrome in Sync and the Cupcakes were recongized as the top three. CPSEM and CEA: In with the New Pairs from different houses danced with all their emotions out as contemporary music played in the realm of the gymanasium. Their intimate touches and fascinating lifts and leaps brought the audience to life and imppessed the judges, and with valour, the College of Policy Studies Education and Management (CPSEM) gracefully made it to the top and brought home the trophy. With elegance, the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and Oroquieta placed 2nd and 3rd, respectively. On the other hand, the crowd cheered so loud as men and women fighting each house’s virtue did their modern hiphop moves and constant tumblings and flips on stage. With their impressive routines, the College of Engineering and Architechture (CEA) owned the glory and the trophy. The CAS and CIIT also brought home the trophys for the 2nd and 3rd place with a huge applaud from the audience. *** Fighting for the throne, different houses’ mastery in their dance moves and routines was an expression of their will to be on top. Dancing is indeed an elegant sport in the MUST intramural game of thrones.

MVP... from page 1 for gratitude because they owed their success to the team and guidance of their master. The MVP’s KICK! “Still alive and kicking”, marked the mighty Harold Carcueva of Unit 7Jasaan as the Sepak Takraw MVP. The power of his inside, thigh and head kick had helped Carcueva advance his Kingdom. The King of Kicks said,” Always believe in your ability”. Indeed, striving for loyalty brings great things to the House of the Olympian. The Spikers for Justice Rusbel Poliran and Ritchell Carin played for the Oroquieta spikers and proclaimed as the Volleyball MVP’s. They brought justice to the House they are fighting. According to them, all the competitors did their best but their strategies made all the difference. Every attack, shot, dig and free ball they have made had delivered them to raise the sword for victory. Despite the foe and woe, the Oroquieta spikers testified that justice can still be attained. As the satellite campus shouted, “Justice is ours!” Straight to the King’s eye! “Dart is a game of mind”, said Marjorie Estoque, the MVP for dart in the women division and Diomar Herrera for men division. The spectacular game has brought fear and pressure to them. Hitting a dart straight in the eye is indeed a hard thing to do, but, with might and determination, they were able to surpass the challenge. A Rocket Throne Gleno Malinao and Kathleen Faye Sebastian were proclaimed as the MVP for badminton men and women division. Fearlessly, they have surmounted all the trials during the competition- and with the aid of their rockets, eye-opening skills, support of their respective colleges and a prayer they have own each corner of the battlefield and made it on the throne. Hail the Lord and the Lady of the Royal Table Victorious MVP’s have captured the spotlight in the names of Albert Vallador and Jeda Mae Montero for the table tennis. These two have amazingly fought against their endeavors during the intramural games 2014. Their battles are close, yet, their determination was stronger than their fear- that hailed them as Lord and the Lady of the game and they had defended the kingdom which they fight for. To be an MVP, one must manifest not just the skills as the sword but he must possess the character and a heart as the shield to win against all odds. All of us are the Most Valuable Players in our own battlefield. Now, are you ready to be enthroned?
enjoyed the band fest. Several guest bands such as Nobela, Years with Maria, Deminions, Rage of Laura and many more performed at the Sci-com Grounds of the university. Afterwards, a band competition was set to culminate the two-day band fest. Drum beats and riddling guitar leads rocked the stage as four bands from the four colleges clashed in the battle of the bands. With their own rendition of the songs: Why don’t you and I by Santana,Strangers by the day by Shades Apart and Someone like you by Adele, CEA band triumphed in getting the championship trophy from the College of Arts and Sciences who were last year’s champions. The vocalist with his full and smooth voice and their lead guitarist with his finger-twisting lead guitar solos sent the hearts and souls of the audiences into overdrive that ultimately led to their victory. Conversely, the CPSEM and CIIT band rocked their hearts out to their listeners that got them in the third and second place respectively. “Music is a world within itself with a language we all understand.” This popular line from one of Stevie Wonder’s songs truly proves that even though these contests were designed to pick out the best performers in the university, one thing is certain and that is music bonded and united us all in one banner of enjoyment and harmony.
SSC Fails To Announce Over-all Rankings Roshelle Novie L. Cabrido
L
ast September 27, Danica Tacbas, Supreme Student Council president and Intramurals overall chairman, announced the over-all champion of Intramurals which was College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA) Risen Legends gaining 2,761 points, but it was for the first time that there were no announcement about the succeeding ranks of the other participants. The announcement happened so fast that only CEA’s glory was being acknowledged on the stage. The ranking of each college including the extension campuses was supposedly announced like what was practiced yearly. Thereafter, the crowd was filled with cheers from CEA students, but a moment of silence for the unacknowledged colleges. College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) president Joshua Waban said that they became quiet after the awarding. They were dismayed as it
appeared that their efforts were not paid off knowing that they placed 2nd after CEA with 2,080 points, but received nothing. For Waban, asking for acknowledgment and trophy is not about being a fame whore, for it will serve as a simple gratitude for the participants under a specific college who exerted much to partake. On the other hand, Tacbas cleared out that it was purely an honest mistake for none of the SSC officers know that there were supposedly trophies for the over-all rankings. She added that there was no ‘favoritism’ thing between her and CEA, “…makaya man gani namu mag invest ug inana ka mahal na trophy kung nakabalo lang gyud mi ingun ana diay then why not nga nagasto sad mi ug trophy nga para sa ilaha…”. She further said that the participating candidates were ranked, but were not announced during the awarding ceremony, clearly saying that it was an honest mistake.
