Best of Scotland & Ireland This tour has both the golfer and non-golfer in mind. Starting in historic St Andrews, play St Andrews Old Course and New Course before heading to the stunning Turnberry Resort and Ailsa Championship Course, then it’s over to Ireland for 12 days of touring some of the world’s best countryside and golf courses. No-one who plays at St Andrews can fail to be struck by the sense of being somewhere very special. The sheer atmosphere of St Andrews leaves a big impression. Ireland is one of the most memorable places in the world to play golf, with many varied links courses including Royal Portrush and Royal County Down and Ballybunion – all rated by Golf Magazine to be in the top 20 courses in the world. The tour passes through some of Ireland’s best scenery and there will be plenty of sight-seeing for the non-golfer. Highlights include the fabulous countryside in south-west Ireland - the Ring of Kerry and the Dingle Peninsula. The escorted Tour will commence on the 5 th of July and ends on the 21st of July 2014. The Scotland itinerary includes bus transfers. In Ireland, we will use hire cars and move at our own pace.
Itinerary Saturday 5 July Transfer from Edinburgh to St Andrews, stay at St Andrews Golf Hotel (3 nights). Sunday 6 July Golf: Today you’ll play New Course St Andrews. Steeped in tradition and designed by Old Tom Morris, this is a classic test of links golf. The course is immediately adjacent to the Old Course and just a short walk from our hotel. Non-golf: St Andrews sight-seeing including St Andrews Cathedral and St Andrews Castle.
Monday 7 July Golf: Today you’ll play at St Andrews Old Course, the home of golf. The Old Course is the most historic course in the world and is regularly ranked in the top 5 on the planet. The course starts and finishes at the clubhouse within the town. Non-golf: Enjoy a day of leisure in the old town, perhaps walk the historic St Andrews Old Course with the golfers, or hire a car and explore more sights around the picturesque Fife region. Tuesday 8 July This morning we travel by bus across Scotland to Turnberry Resort. Enjoy an overnight stay in the 5 star hotel. Golfers will enjoy an afternoon round on the fabulous Turnberry Ailsa Championship Course. Non-golfers can enjoy the afternoon at the magnificent hotel property – perhaps a visit to the day spa?
Wednesday 9 July Short bus transfer to Glasgow Airport then a 45 minute flight across to Belfast. Get our hire cars then head to the north coast and visit the Giant’s Causeway and Carrick-A-Rede rope bridge. Overnight we stay at the lovely beachsiide Bayview Hotel near Bushmills (2 nights). Thursday 10 July Golf: Today you’ll play at Royal Portrush, voted #12 in the world by Golf magazine. Home to the 1951 Open Championship, the course also hosted the 2012 Irish Open. Non-golf: Morning exploring Bushmills then join the golfers for sight-seeing at Dunluce Castle and a visit to Bushmills Distillery. Dinner at the award winning restaurant at Bushmills Inn.
Friday 11 July Drive back through Belfast across to Newcastle. This afternoon, play one of Ireland’s finest courses, Royal County Down. Non-golfers can enjoy the grand Slieve Donard Hotel & Spa (1 night). Saturday 12 July Take a leisurely 2 hour drive to Dublin. Spend the afternoon visiting Dublin’s attractions such as a tour of The Guinness Store House. Dinner in a traditional Irish Pub in the famous Temple Bar district. Check-in to the Fitzwilliam Hotel, Dublin for 2 nights.
Sunday 13 July Golf: Today you’ll play Portmarnock Old Golf Course - globally recognised as one of the truly great links golf courses and is one of Tom Watson’s favourite courses – “there are no tricks or nasty surprises, only an honest, albeit searching test of shot making skills". Non-golf: Explore Dublin - tour Trinity College Library, Visit Dublin Castle, O’ Connell Street, Grafton Street.
Monday 14 July Drive across Ireland via Limerick to the world famous Cliffs of Moher. View the displays at the visitors centre then take in the fabulous scenery of the Irish west coast. Overnight at Lahinch Golf Hotel (1 night) Tuesday 15 July Golf: Play Lahinch Old Course. Lahinch is a visual stunner. A restoration program was completed 10 years ago and included amplification of trouble around the greens with bunkers, swales and mounding making the approach shot from any distance a challenge. Non-golf: Enjoy a leisurely morning before joining the golfers for the journey to Ballybunion including a ferry crossing of the picturesque Shannon River. Overnight Teach de Broc, Ballybunion for 2 nights.
Wednesday 16 July Golf: Play Ballybunion Old Course. “Ballybunion is a thrilling challenge – a supreme test of golf.” Non-golf: Enjoy the day exploring the seaside town of Ballybunion and the surrounding countryside in County Kerry. Thursday 17 July Golf: Play Tralee Golf Club. The Arnold Palmer designed course is a rugged and exhilarating creation. According to folklore, Palmer designed the first nine and Mother Nature did the rest. There are only a few courses that grab your attention from the first tee shot until the last putt drops. Non-golf: Enjoy a leisurely morning or head off to Killarney to explore this vibrant Irish town. Visit Dunross House. Checkin to the historic Lake Hotel (3 nights).
Friday 18 July Tour the famous Ring of Kerry and enjoy the fabulous Irish scenery and coastline. Saturday 19 July Spend a leisurely day exploring Killarney and/or tour the Dingle Peninsula. Golf: Enjoy an afternoon game at Killarney Golf and Fishing Club (Killeen). Set amongst the most magical and enchanting scenery in Ireland, the Killeen Course is built on the shore of Lough Leane just west of Killarney. With tree-lined fairways and the highest mountain in Ireland as a backdrop, the holes are varied and exciting and the conditioning of the course first class.
Sunday 20 July Golf: Play Old Head Golf Links. “Ballybunion is a thrilling challenge – a supreme test of golf.” The Old Head of Kinsale is home to a WorldClass Golf Course and Luxury Members' Accommodation located in County Cork on the Southwest Coast of Ireland. The brainchild of John and Patrick O’Connor, the Club has developed into one of the most recognised and sought after golf experiences anywhere on earth. It is a sanctuary for those seeking the finest in personalised service. After golf, enjoy our final dinner at the Club House. Monday 21 July Depart for Cork Airport for a connection to Heathrow, or head back to Dublin.
