HAINAN ISLAND, CHINA “The Hawaii of the East ” 16 - 22 May, 2016 Pairs Golf Tournament
HAINAN ISLAND, CHINA an overview Hainan Island is situated in the South China Sea, just off China’s southern coast. This tropical island is blessed with balmy weather, palm trees and golden-sand beaches, and is known as the “Hawaii of the East.” On this guided golf trip you will stay at two luxury resorts and play six games of golf on spectacular and varied courses. A tournament will be run over the 6 courses and will be a pairs competition. The trip starts at the famous Mission Hills Resort Haikou which has (amongst other things) 10 golf courses, 168 spa pools, an enormous entertainment and shopping precinct and its own Movie Town. We play 4 of the best courses here, including the spectacular Blackstone which is built in a bed of natural black lava rock. We then drive south east to the stunning and secluded Shenzhou Peninsula, and stay 2 nights at the beachside Sheraton Shenzhou Resort. There is time to play both the east and west course at the highly acclaimed “The Dunes”, designed by Tom Weiskoph. This beautifully designed course is right on the beach and passes through wetlands, massive sand dunes and granite outcrops. Both courses are absolutely world class and will rate amongst the best courses you have ever played. So grab your playing partner and join us on this memorable and exhilarating trip to Hainan Island.

THE GOLF COURSES MISSION HILLS HAIKOU
Mission Hills Haikou is a golf complex with 10 courses designed by Schmidt Curley Design, with plans for 22 golf courses. It will be the second largest golf complex in the world. The crown jewel is the Blackstone Course, a spectacular golf course that weaves through a striking landscape of mature trees, thick jungle vegetation, and expansive lakes and wetlands. The dominating site characteristic is the bed of lava rock which was capped with material located 25 miles away. The naturally rolling terrain sees dramatic elevation change and great care was taken to preserve the magnificent Lychee trees. Lava Fields presents far less tree cover. There is a feel of expanse that creates a big look and the black rock and sand dominate the landscape like no other course in the world. Stone Quarry was designed as a tribute to the many fine courses of Pete Dye, mentor to the Schmidt-Curley team. This course showcases all the wild-ride features associated with his designs. Railroad tie sleepers, abrupt mounds, and moguls, long sandy waste bunkers, devilish sometimes small greens and rail-road car bridges all create a distinct look. The course snakes through ancient volcanic quarry's supported by steep rock walls and timbers. The dramatic landscape features remnants of days past including coal cars, railroad tracks, and abandoned mining equipment.

Shadow Dunes brings sand to the city, this course offers a unique environment of towering sand dunes and native vegetation found along the vast beaches of Hainan Island. This course features large undulating contours that feed into some of the largest greens at the resort. These wild green surfaces will leave monstrous putts of prodigious length at times. Blackstone

Within the golfing corridors of the holes you will find a mix of big mature trees, natural water ways, primary and secondary dunes, spectacular ocean views, seaside vegetation, gentle elevation changes and majestic natural rock outcroppings. “The Dunes may well be the best golfing destination in Asia.
