THEpopular phrase you are what you eat not only applies to that which is physical, but also to that which is spiritual. Just like food gives strength, so does the word of God, as long as believers constantly feed their soul with in order to maintain spiritual health.
Reading and listening to the Word, as well as meditating and speaking scriptures are all ways to feed the soul. In fact, Proverbs 4:20-21 outlines exactly how Christians are to feed their souls. It states “My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings, Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart."
Keeping the word of God in one's heart is important for the spiritual growth of any Christian," Shannon Russell, methodist follower, told Tribune Religion.
"I put on the whole armour of God every day. And the only way I can do that is by equipping myself. I set aside time to read my bible every morning. I find when I do that, I am prepared to take on the world. If I miss a day and did not get the opportunity to read the word, I feel hungry, hungry for the word," she said.
When one's focus is directed to what God and his word, they are better able to defeat the devil when he attempts to wage war in the mind Charlene told Tribune Religion.
"The devil will wage a minuteby-minute fight with you. Many people do not realise that Satan is the unseen enemy and he attacks us in our mind. When God tells us to keep our eyes on the word, he said so because it is our weapon against Satan. We cannot fight without the word. Christians who do not read their bible or do not go to church to at least hear something, will always be caught off guard and ill-prepared when the devil picks a fight," said Charlene Mortimer, a Baptist follower.
“I put on the whole armour of God every day. And the only way I can do that is by equipping myself. I set aside time to read my bible every morning. I find when I do that, I am prepared to take on the world. If I miss a day and did not get the opportunity to read the word, I feel hungry, hungry for the word.”
Shannon Russell
"The more we focus on God’s word, the more we will desire it and the more rapidly we will see spiritual growth and development taking place in our lives. My spirit needs strength to overcome everything in the world," she said.
Jason Bascom, a born-again believer told Tribune Religion the Bible is not just a book of rules, but is a reflection of what the lives of Christians should look like.
"I will not go one day without keeping the word in the front of my eyes. I need it every day because I have now come to understand that if I am going to be successful, I need to make I have to know what the word of God says about my success. I put scripture on my refrigerator, I keep them on my desk at work, I store them in my phone just so I can keep them in the front of my eyes," he said.
New Bethlehem Baptist Church held its fourth annual marriage conference last weekend.
The three-day event, from Friday to Sunday, was held at the church's Independence Drive location. The host pastor was Rev Tyrone A Laing, while Marriage in Action directors were Dec Huden and Rev Christine Johnson, and Dec Dwight and evantelist Laverne Charlow.
Past Marvin Gibson was the speaker on Friday night, giving his personal testimonies about the experiences he and his wife, Dr Tamalia Gibson, went through as newlyweds, as well as health challenges, miscarriages and more. He said their adversities allowed them to become even closer and more in love with one another.
On Saturday morning, breakfast was followed by a panel discussion featuring five married couples taking a deep dive into the marital vows. It included Dec Huden and Rev Christine Johnson, Deacon Gregory and Deacon Patrice Bodie, Rev Derek and Sis Patrice Munroe, Deacon Dwight and evangelist Laverne Charlow, and Deacon Kendrick and Sis Pearline Williams.
A vow renewal service was held on Sunday morning, with speaker and officiant Apostle Dr Sterling McPhee Sr, pastor, Jubilee Christian Ministries International. Dr McPhee reminded husbands they are the head, and God is holding them accountable for their family.
The charge to the couples was given by Bishop Darrin Woods, pastor, New Good Will Church of God. He said woman was made from the rib of man. She should be considered as “Prime Rib” and therefore treated accordingly.

POPE Francis has shown further slight improvement as he battles double pneumonia, but doctors said Wednesday his prognosis is still guarded.
A chest CT scan taken on Tuesday evening showed the "normal evolution" of an infection as it is being treated, the Vatican said in its late update. The 88-year-old pope, who had part of one lung removed as a young man, is still receiving high flows of supplemental oxygen but hasn't had any more respiratory crises since Saturday.
Blood tests, which had shown some low platelet counts and anemia, have confirmed an improvement and the slight kidney insufficiency detected a few days ago has receded, the statement said.
Francis is continuing to receive respiratory physiotherapy, the statement said. It was the first time the Vatican has confirmed Francis was receiving physiotherapy to help him expel fluid from his lungs.
A complex lung infection has kept the 88-year-old pope hospitalised in critical condition since Febuary 14. Francis has chronic lung disease and was admitted to Rome's Gemelli hospital after a bout of bronchitis worsened. While doctors didn't repeat that he was in critical condition in Wednesday's update, as they have in recent days, they said his prognosis remained guarded, meaning he wasn't out of danger.
The pope resumed work in the afternoon from
his hospital room, after receiving the Eucharist in the morning. And in a sign the Holy See machinery was grinding on, the Vatican announced he had appointed four new bishops and approved the creation of a new fundraising initiative to encourage donations to the Holy See, which has been enduring a financial crisis for years. Francis likely approved the bishop appointments awhile back and the new norms for the fundraising entity were approved February 11, before he was hospitalized. But the announcements made them official and suggested Francis was still very much in charge and governing.
If he were to look out the hospital window from the 10th floor, he
might see that a steady stream of well-wishers are lighting candles and leaving him balloons and get-well cards at the statue of St John Paul II near the Gemelli entrance. It has become something of a makeshift pilgrimage destination, especially for church groups in town for the Vatican's Holy Year.
On Wednesday, Bishop Gerardo Villalonga from Menorca, Spain led a group of 50 pilgrims to the site, saying they wanted to be as close to him as possible.
"Because when a family has someone who is sick it is very important that they are surrounded, it is necessary that everyone is near to them, and all the people of God are close the pope," he said.
At dusk, trumpeter Felice Carella and singer Davide Capuano serenaded the pope with a rendition of Schubert's Ave Maria under his window.
"For me this is not a simple song, this is a big prayer for the pope so that he will better," Capuano said. "These are terrible days and I hope the whole world can pray together with us."
Cardinal Re picked to lead prayer vigil on Wednesday
The dean of the College of Cardinals, meanwhile, was designated to lead the Vatican's prayer vigil in St. Peter's Square on Wednesday night, thrusting a key figure in a future possible conclave into the spotlight. Francis recently extended the
term of Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, 91, keeping him in the important job rather than naming someone new.
As is now popularly known thanks to the Oscar-nominated film "Conclave," the dean is a key point of reference for cardinals. He presides over a papal funeral and organises the conclave to elect a new pope.
From 2000-2010, Re was prefect of the Vatican's congregation for bishops, one of the most powerful and influential positions in the Holy See. Francis made him dean in 2020 and confirmed him in the job in January despite the expiration of his fiveyear term.
The faithful from Francis' homeland, meanwhile, gathered in the Argentine
church of Rome for a special Mass presided over by Cardinal Baldassarre Reina, the pope's vicar for Rome. Reina also celebrated the lunchtime Mass on Wednesday at Gemelli to pray for Francis.
Sister Nilda Trejo, an Argentine nun, said that she knew Francis' health has always been delicate, with problems breathing and speaking loudly, and that's why she always prayed for him.
"We knew that he often found it difficult," she said. "In fact, you see that at the beginning of Mass, the microphone always has to be turned up because he has a bit of trouble. But he always spoke to the people. To the heart of the people."

VALENTINE'S
Day has passed, with all of its romantic gestures— flowers, chocolates, and heartfelt words of affection.
Many agree that beyond the roses and candlelit dinners lies the greatest love story ever told: God’s unconditional love for humanity. Unlike earthly love, which can be fleeting, God’s love is eternal, unwavering, and sacrificial.
For local believers, understanding and embracing this divine love is life-changing. It serves as the foundation for all other relationships and provides peace in a world where love often feels conditional.
The Bible is filled with reminders of God’s immeasurable love.
One of the most well-known verses, John 3:16, declares, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
This verse captures the essence of divine love, one that is selfless, sacrificial, and available to all.
For Crystal Gibson, this verse holds a special place in her heart. “When I think about love, I don’t just think about emotions, I think about action. God didn’t just say He loved us; He proved it by sending Jesus to
die for our sins. That’s love in its purest form,” she said.
Crystal emphasised that unlike human love, which often comes with conditions, God’s love is freely given. “Even when we mess up, His love doesn’t waver. That’s a kind of love you can build your life on,” she said.
Many people go through life feeling unloved, unworthy, or forgotten. But there are countless scriptures that reassures us that God’s love is a healing force. For example, Romans 5:8 states, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Jasmine Saunders, another Bahamian woman, shared how understanding God’s love helped her through a difficult season.
“I struggled with feelings of rejection for years. I thought I had to prove myself worthy of love. But when I started
“When I think about love, I don’t just think about emotions, I think about action. God didn’t just say He loved us; He proved it by sending Jesus to die for our sins. That’s love in its purest form.”
studying scripture, I realised that God loved me even in my brokenness. I didn’t have to earn it, I just had to accept it. When you know how deeply you are loved by God, you stop chasing after people who don’t value you. You start setting standards based on how He sees you,” said Jasmine. Lastly, we have scriptures that speak on how God’s love
doesn’t just transform us, it calls us to extend love to others. In Matthew 22:37-39, Jesus commands us to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. Love your neighbor as yourself.”
For Andre Taylor, a youth mentor, this verse is a daily reminder. “God’s love isn’t just meant to be received; it’s meant to be shared. If we say we love God, but we don’t show love to others, whether it’s kindness, forgiveness, or compassion, then we’ve missed the point.”
Andre believes that showing love doesn’t have to be complicated. He said it’s in the small things like checking in on someone, praying for a friend, being patient when someone wrongs you. Love isn’t just a feeling; it’s a choice.
