WOMEN are encouraged to pour out their hearts and leave everything on the table during an upcoming conference that promises to transform lives.
The Restore Outpour Women’s Conference, hosted at Born Again Deliverance Ministries on Bernard Road, will feature international guest speaker Pastor Jameliah Gooden. The event takes place tomorrow night at the ministry.
The church, led by Bishop Kelson H Miller and Minister Aleacha Miller, will host the conference alongside Pastor Gooden, who is expected to deliver a powerful word to attendees all the way from, Charlotte, North Carolina Pastor Gooden focuses on women’s empowerment, teen and youth mentoring, and healthy relationships.
As the pastor of Unity Charlotte International Church and the voice behind the popular Car Chronicles Movement on social media, she has worked to share her message of healthy selfempowerment with those who need it most. She is also the author of the bestselling book “The Death of
the Angry Black Woman”, and her new best-selling book “A Needle in a Haystack: How to Find Love in the Rubble”.
Pastor Gooden said her ultimate goal is for others to share the fruits of the Lord: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
Born to the late Prophet Violetta Britton Young and Bishop James Young, Pastor Gooden was raised in Clinton Hills, Brooklyn, New York, where she heard the voice of the Lord at just six years old. Today, she continues to follow His will and has been in ministry for nearly 30 years, having preached her first sermon at the age of 13 at Kingsborough College in Brooklyn.
In 2016, while driving through Atlanta, Georgia, on the way to work she heard the voice of the Lord say, “Pull over”.
The Lord told her she would speak to the nations and that He would use her to restore His character.
This inspired her to begin speaking internationally. Now she preaches to over half a million followers each day through her Car Chronicles Facebook live videos, streamed every morning at 7.30am.
She said she has been able been to travel around the world, touching people with God’s word, and living as His servant. She said she is blessed to serve God’s people and owes every trial and tribulation, as well as her unwavering commitment, to that day in her car.
Minister Miller said the inspiration for this Sunday’s conference came from the wish to take back what has been lost.
“We have lost so much during the pandemic and I believe it's time for the world to be restored,” she told Tribune Religion.
Minister Miller said she believes Pastor Gooden will touch the lives of women in attendance with her unique story.
“Women today are no longer interested in religion; we are interested in real relationships.
Although she is pastor, it is the realism that is the attraction. Be all things to all men. The speaker should be relatable to the audience, and because the majority of her audience is women, women all over the world can themselves in Lady Jameliah,” she said.
While the event is a women’s conference, everyone can get something out of it, Minister Miller said.
“If you are breathing, you need to be restored and you need to be around those who believe in the restoration power of God,” she said.
“It's not what happens at the event, it's when you go home with a new understanding about life as you know it; through the revelation on knowledge and knowing of God's power.
As long as you are breathing, you have an opportunity to restore all that was lost through Jesus Christ. Restoration is always possible as long as you have a little bit of faith left.”
“We have lost so much during the pandemic and I believe it's time for the world to be restored.”PASTOR JAMELIAH GOODEN
WHILE we have made some great strides since 1973, it is my view that we could have and should have advanced much further than we have as a sovereign nation. Here are some observations and recommendations:
1. We still do not have a national identity as a people.
This very important matter should be widely discussed and a document formulated clarifying our identity.
Who is a Bahamian? What is our culture? What makes us unique as a people?
We have lost so many good things in recent years. Perhaps, we can regain some of these, like families worshipping together, eating together and our special cultural events.
2. The Bahamas urgently needs a 50-year national development plan, which must be adhered to by all future governments on behalf of the people.
We have failed miserably in this regard and continue to exist without a vision of our future. Hence, we are like a ship
without a sail. The nation needs direction and a vision or our people will perish. Our leaders, be they political, religious or civic, all need a national vision for our beloved nation. A plan should have been put in place since 1973. We're now 50 years late and have paid dearly for this mistake. I'm aware that an attempt was made at producing a national development plan, however, that report seems to have been shelved.
3. All of our financial laws and regulations left in place by the United Bahamian Party and our colonial masters should be closely examined and amended to ensure that all Bahamians are free from oppressive laws that grant foreigners advantages over Bahamians.
These unfair financial laws should be removed forthwith for the benefit of Bahamians. Necessary constitutional amendments should be made hastily to at least level the playing field for citizens of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. No foreigner should have rights and privileges that Bahamians do not have. Furthermore, I call for a relaxation of foreign exchange laws that prohibit Bahamians
from freely accessing large amounts of foreign currency, in particular US dollars.
4. A referrundum should be held to decide if we should change our system of government to that of a republic for the benefit of the masses.
5. We presently have a Ministry of Natural Resources but citizens of the Bahamas do not benefit from the multibillion-dollar natural resources industry that the Bahamas has been blessed with.
Our leaders have the power to make life easier for every Bahamian by eliminating our national debt, reducing taxes and providing financial aid from funds derived from our unlimited national resources from throughout the country. Our major goal as a nation should be to empower Bahamians financially, which will substantially reduce poverty and crime.
6. With an estimated three million acres of crown land spread throughout the Bahamas, it is my strong belief that every Bahamian over the age of 18 should be granted an acre of developed property.
Almost 2.8 million acres of land will remain for future generations. Land is wealth. I believe the Bahamas is one of the wealthiest countries in the world per capita and this should be reflected among our people.
7. I hereby request that the long overdue land register be established expeditiously. The Bahamas is one of the few nations today without a land register. This has created much confusion on land ownership. I wonder why no government to date has addressed this matter. Is there something being covered up? Also, why have thousands of acres on various Family Islands, known as "generation" property or commonage land, not been regulated to date. Families that own these parcels cannot use such properties at local banks. This can be easily corrected by
passing laws in Parliament and the granting of title deeds to a family member, who can then distribute to other family members by way of a conveyance.
8. Last but not least, I recommend that we take a much harder stand against illegal immigration and all activities associated with this. Tougher laws and harsher penalties must be enforced on all offenders convicted of such breaches. We should also examine all citizenship laws and make any necessary constitutional amendments.
I'm extremely proud to be a Bahamian and I love my country. I expect the blessings of the Most High to continue to be with us as a people.
Happy Independence, Bahamas.
To mark the Bahamas’ 50th anniversary of Independence, in today’s “What does this scripture mean to you?” segment, Tribune Religion asked readers about Psalm 33:12:
“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people he chose for his inheritance.”
According to the website Bible References (www. bibleref.com), this verse holds a great promise for a nation that honours God. We asked a number of Bahamians to weigh in and share their thoughts.
“I have visited many countries and places around the world, and every time I do, I grow a deeper appreciation for where I was born and raised, the Bahamas,” said Monica Bethel.
“We have our challenges in this place, but the steady faith of the Bahamian people in this Christian nation has guided us through history and it continues to shape the future of this nation.”
Judy Stubbs said it is amazing to look back and see the strides made in the country over the years, none of which would’ve been possible without God at the helm.
Marie Rolle added: “I think this is so important, because as a country we need to be led in the way and in the will of God so that we can see good things happen for our country. And we also need leaders who are spiritual enough to help fulfil the will of God for every aspect of our nation.”
Sharon Minus said that she feels God has shone His benevolent light on the Bahamas and blessed this country in many
ways by giving it its “natural beauty, its geography in relation to the rest of the world, and its resilient people.”
However, she is concerned that Bahamians may be losing their way.
“I’m not talking about young people not going to church on Sundays anymore or being much freer with their morals; times are a-changin’ and some things we have to accept in a modern world. No, I’m talking about a distinct lack of Christian love for one another; true caring and consideration,” she said.
“ Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord indeed. But for us to be blessed we need to follow God and His son Jesus’ example. Forget church politics and what some of these pastors are preaching; listen only to Jesus and follow His example.”

POPE Francis has set up a special commission tasked with identifying those he calls the “new martyrs” of the 21st century — Christians who have been slain in some cases simply for attending Mass or for helping the poor.
The Vatican on Wednesday released a copy of a letter in which the pope announced the commission will be part of the Holy See’s saint-making office.
"As I have said so many times, martyrs ‘are more numerous in our time than in the first centuries,’'' of the Church, Francis wrote in the letter dated Monday. He was referring to the early years of Christianity, when many were slain for refusing to renounce their faith, seen as a threat to Roman imperial rule.
Modern-time martyrs include clergy as well as "lay people and families, who, in various countries of the world, with the gift of their life, offered the supreme proof of charity,'' Francis wrote.
The martyr initiative is timed to coincide with a church jubilee, or Holy Year, scheduled for 2025 that will draw to Rome "pilgrims of hope,'' the pontiff noted.
At the pope's direction, the commission's members will research cases of non-Catholic Christian martyrs, too.
The commission is tasked with “working up a catalogue of all those who have shed their blood to acknowledge Christ and to give witness to His Gospel,'' Francis wrote in his letter. ”The martyrs of the Church are witnesses to the hope that derives from faith in Christ and inspires true charity,'' he said.
Francis is building on a drive started by St John Paul II to give rank-and-file faithful more recent role models among the saints. John Paul raised to sainthood, for example, a Spanish priest who was assassinated in 1936 during the opening days of the Spanish Civil War.
“There are not few, indeed, who, while aware of the dangers they ran, showed their faith or participated in Sunday Eucharist,'' Francis wrote. “Others are killed in the efforts to charitably help the life of those who are poor, in taking care of those rejected by society, in taking care of, and promoting, the gift of peace and the strength of forgiveness.”
In his letter, Francis didn't cite any persons he considers to be 21st-century martyrs nor any countries or regions where
people have been slain for their faith.
But nuns and priests working in parishes or charitable organisations in Africa and elsewhere in recent decades have been slain.
Just two months ago, the Vatican formally recognised 21 Coptic Orthodox workers who were beheaded by Islamic militants in Libya as martyrs with their own feast day.
Francis announced the inscription of the 21, most of them Egyptians, in the roll call of saints celebrated liturgically in the Catholic Church. He made the announcement during an audience with the Coptic Orthodox pope, a significant gesture aimed a forging unity between Catholic and Orthodox churches.
“In a world in which it sometimes seems that evil prevails,
I am certain that the working up of this catalogue," the pope wrote in the letter, “will help believers” to see “the reasons of life and of good" by drawing inspiration from the new martyrs.
The 10 members of the new commission include several clergy, among them a Togo-born theology professor at a pontifical university in Rome and a Vietnam-born Franciscan friar who has worked in the Vatican's missionary offices. There are two lay academics on the commission.
The Vatican offered no estimate of how many martyrs might be identified by the new commission.
Beatification, the last major step before possible sainthood, requests that a panel certify that a miracle occurred through the candidate's intercession. A second miracle after beatification is needed for the person to be raised to sainthood, unless the candidate was a martyr.
Even after the 2025 Holy Year, the commission will continue its research to identify martyrs, Francis said.
“MY brothers and sisters, we have not travelled long, we have much further to go. But we know where we are going, and with a united people and a gracious God, we will get there.”
These are the words spoken by Sir Lynden Pindling in accepting the instruments of independence. In the time since these words were uttered, we indeed have so much to be grateful for; God has been gracious. And we are well aware that the same God that was with us then continues to protect and preserve our country and its people.
Fifty years removed from that pivotal day when we collectively embarked into sovereignty, our journey continues. We have achieved so many great feats and have overcome so much adversity. Those whose efforts brought independence to fruition and those who have worked over the years to preserve it should be proud of how far our country has come. We have established ourselves as a force to be reckoned with in several areas on the world stage. We have skillfully developed our country and have established institutions, policies and legislation aimed at making the lives of the Bahamian people better and our country safer and more competitive. We continue to transition from one governing
administration to another peacefully and justice is obtainable should one need to access it.
The book of Mark 12:30-31 states, “and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
Along the way our concentration has diverted somewhat from the invaluable, intangible things that kept us close-knit as Bahamians. We have allowed our differences to divide us, in many instances, when we should lean on our commonalities and our growing diversity to help us build our country.
We must bring resolution to the social ills that continue to plague and recommit ourselves to strengthening the family structure which is the bedrock of our society. We must also recommit ourselves to ensuring that the promises of Majority Rule and independence materialise for more Bahamians.
The journey to 50 has not been without its difficulties and at every turn Bahamians have demonstrated great resilience. Through the devastating losses brought about by natural disasters and the COVID-19 pandemic, global economic downturns and inflation, Bahamians have found ways to carry on.
The book of Habakkuk 3:17-18 states, “Though the fig tree may
not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines; though the labour of the olive may fail, and the fields yield no food; though the flock may be cut off from the fold, and there be no herd in the stalls. Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation.”
I have seen these words personified on numerous occasions in our country by people who have determined that come what may, with God on their side, they will persevere.
I believe that our country has been at in inflection point for some time. This generation must decide how it will realign to greater reflect the values and goals on which our nation was founded. We must follow in the footsteps of our forefathers and mothers who demonstrated great reverence for God and sought his guidance in decision making. They charted a course in their time that led the Bahamas to many of the victories we still boast about and celebrate today. We must successfully do our part for those who follow us.
As we continue to celebrate this momentous occasion, it is my hope that we do not forget God.
It is my hope that these celebrations will serve as a catalyst for more of us to get involved in the building of our country. On behalf of myself and my family, the Bahamas Christian Council and the wider Christian community, I wish every Bahamian citizen and resident at home and abroad a very happy 50th Independence.
