A ministry passionate about helping the ‘broken’ and ‘downtrodden’ set to host back-to-school give-back
By JEFFARAH GIBSON Tribune Features Writer jgibson@tribunemedia.net
It has always been philanthropist Danavier Fisher’s wish to be able to reach out to those who have “fallen through the cracks” and offer help to those in need. Finding herself in a position to do so, under the umbrella of her ScanDanavier Ministries Outreach, she is now spearheading an initiative that will give back to the community and help prepare kids for the start of the new school year.
The ministry is hosting its third annual “Back to School Giveaway and Funday” on September 2, at Collins Grounds from 10am-2pm.
The event is geared towards kids aged 5-16 who will receive essential supplies needed to will help set them on a path to achieve “academic excellence.”
This year, the event will feature vendors like Berries N’ Dairies, Mortimer Candies, free breakfast, face painting, hair braiding and balloons.
Ms Fisher is inviting people to make it a family outing and partake in what is being offered.
She officially launched the ScanDanavier Ministries Outreach on April 23, 2019 as a way to fulfil what she believes is God’s call on her life.
“My inspiration came from a personal living experience that I went through in my life and because of that my biggest wish is to be financially stable and not homeless,” she said.
After overcoming her own personal trials, Ms Fisher said her dream has always been to start an organisation that could
be of assistance to anyone who has fallen on hard times.
So she took a leap of faith and did what she said God placed on her heart to do.
Since starting the outreach four years ago, the ministry has helped many individuals in the community through its feeding programmes, mentorship and counselling, she said.
“This organisation’s aim is to help foster and care for those who are lost, decaying, bound
and broken in a dying world by reassuring them that all is not lost through assistance. Thus, create the requisite balance of spending on human and heavenly activities and show persons how to overcome their struggles and give them back their hope by changing the story of homelessness and victims of domestic violence through developing a non-profit organisation that is effective, not just in name, but in action, to help those vulnerable
individuals who have fallen on hard times.”
Ms Fisher said she would love to build a recreational centre to educate, train, mentor and equip vulnerable individuals with the necessary skills to help them regain their hope and reenter society as healed people.
Hopefully, she said, ScanDanavier Ministry Outreach will be seen and recognised for its kingdom advancement efforts.
“It is important for me to give back as I was mandated with a quickening in my spirt to help those vulnerable individuals who have fallen on hard times by giving them back their hope,” she said.
“Our ministry mission is to minister to the physical and spiritual needs of the lost and broken by offering food assistance, fellowship, hope, and truth of Jesus. The goal and objective of this outreach is to stock our storehouses through our pantry. The ministry is looking for community partners who share the same goal and vision.
“We are asking our community partners, churches, other civic organisations to help us by way of sponsorship or donations so that the storehouse will have items of survival in case of emergencies for families who have no way of getting food supplies.”
Ms Fisher said one of her ministry’s future objectives is to obtain Crown Land for farming; growing fruits and vegetables for those in need.
“From inception, we have been working hard to ensure that every dollar we receive from a donor/sponsorship helps to create a lasting transformational change for women, men, children, the disabled, the elderly and families all across the Commonwealth of the Bahamas,” she said.
Ms Fisher is asking for people to keep the ministry in their prayers as it carries out the work of God.
Those interested in partnering with the ministry can contact 242-810-6092 or 242-395-0958.

FOUR NEW ANGLICAN SEMINARIES EMBARK ON JOURNEY TO TEST THEIR FAITH
THE ANGLICAN Diocese of the Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands is welcoming four new seminaries: Kenneth Knowles Jr of the St Barnabas parish, Austin Meadows of the Christ the King parish, Tiffany Sweeting of Christ Church Cathedral, and Damien White of the St Matthew’s Parish
These four individuals are about to embark on a sacred and transformative journey to test their vocation to the sacred priesthood. Knowles, Meadows and Sweeting will attend Codrington College in Barbados, while White will study at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee.
“We celebrate and recognise their commitment to serve our Lord and His Church. May they embrace this time of formation with humility and open hearts, knowing that true wisdom comes from
God alone,” the Anglican Diocese said in a statement.
“We surround them with our support and prayers, knowing that together, we strengthen the Body of Christ.”
The Anglican community now has 11 members from the Diocese testing
their vocations in the academic year 2023/24.
In a prayer for the four new seminaries, the Diocese said: “Heavenly Father, we come to You today with hearts full of gratitude and hope for Kenneth, Austin, Tiffany and Damien, all of whom have chosen to dedicate
themselves to a deeper understanding of Your divine wisdom. As they step onto this path of testing their vocations to the sacred ministry, we ask for Your blessings to guide and guard them.
Grant them courage and perseverance when challenges arise, wisdom
to discern Your truth, and an unwavering commitment to love and to serve Your people faithfully. May the Holy Spirit be their constant companion, illuminating their minds and filling their hearts with compassion.
“We pray that their time away from their
homes and families be transformative, equipping them to become effective messengers of Your Word, and living examples of Your grace and love. Cause them to be shining beacons of hope, inspiring others to draw nearer to You.”

Navigating the intersection between technology, AI and religion – Three essential reads
Meher BHATIA The Conversation (THE CONVERSATION)
In an era marked by rapid technological advancement, we are seeing everything from artificial intelligence to robots slowly seep into our everyday lives. But now, this technology is increasingly making inroads into a realm that has long been uniquely human: religion.
From the creation of ChatGPT sermons to robots performing sacred Hindu rituals, the onceclearer boundaries between faith and technology are blurring.
Over the last few months, The Conversation US has published a number of stories exploring how AI and automation are weaving themselves into religious contexts. These three articles from our archives shed light on the impacts of such technology on human spirituality, faith and worship across cultures.
1. Prophets come to life
As one of the most prominent religious figures in the world, Jesus has been continually reinterpreted to fit the norms and needs of each new historical context, from Cristo Negro or “Black Christ” to being depicted as a Hindu mystic.
But now the prophet is on Twitch, a video live-streaming platform. And it’s all thanks to an AI chatbot.
Presented as a bearded white man wearing a brown hood, “AI Jesus” is available 24/7 on his Twitch channel “ask_Jesus” and is able to interact with users who can ask him anything from deep religious-in-nature questions to lighthearted inquiries.
AI Jesus represents one of the newest examples in the growing field of AI spirituality, noted Boston College theology faculty member Joseph L. Kimmel, and may help scholars better understand how human spirituality
is being actively shaped by the influence of AI.
2. Robotic rituals
A unique intersection of religion and robotic technology has emerged with the introduction of robots performing Hindu rituals in South Asia. While some have welcomed the technological inclusion, others express worries about the future that ritual automation could lead to.
Many believe that the growth of robots within Hindu practices could lead to an increase in people leaving the religion, and question the use of robots to embody religious and divine figures.
But there is another concern: whether robots could eventually replace Hindu worshippers. Automated robots would be able to perform rituals without a single error. This is significant because religions like Hinduism and Buddhism emphasize the correct execution of rituals and ceremonies as a means to
connect with the divine rather than emphasizing correct belief.
It’s a concept referred to as orthopraxy, according to Wellesley College anthropology lecturer Holly Walters. “In short, the robot can do your religion better than you can because robots, unlike people, are spiritually incorruptible,” she explained. “Modern robotics might then feel like a
particular kind of cultural paradox, where the best kind of religion is the one that eventually involves no humans at all.”
3. AI preachers
According to College of the Holy Cross religious studies scholar Joanne M Pierce, preaching has always been considered a human activity grounded in faith. But what
happens when that practice is taken over by an AI chatbot?
In June 2023, hundreds of Lutherans gathered in Bavaria, Germany, for a service designed and delivered by ChatGPT. But many are cautious about using AI to conduct these religious practices.
In their sermons, preachers not only offer advice, but “speak out of personal reflection in a way that will inspire the members of the congregation, not just please them,” Pierce said. “It must also be shaped by an awareness of the needs and lived experience of the worshiping community in the pews.”
For the time being, it seems as though the inability to understand the human experience is AI’s biggest flaw within the preaching sphere.

Through rain and shine, young believers march for Jesus
– PM Philip ‘Brave’ Davis praises participants for ‘spirit of unity’
By ALESHA CADET Tribune Features Writer acadet@tribunemedia.net
Despite the pouring rain and rumbling thunder, Nassau’s faithful still gathered to march for Jesus last Sunday.
Hosted by the nonprofit organization IOT (It’s Our Turn), and under the leadership of Beijing Rodgers, a youth activist and international speaker, the event attracted both the young and old who marched for 3.6 miles, all the while praising Jesus.
Ms Rodgers said she believes there is a reason God asks His people to worship Him, and for her, it is her favourite thing to do.
“It has set me free from some of the darkest times in my life. Worship is when Job says: ‘You give and you take, but blessed be Your name.’ I urge you to worship Jesus and see how your life changes. For when you’ve surrendered it all to Jesus, while in the rain, thunder and lightning, you just don’t care,” she told Tribune Religion.
Ms Rodgers’ journey with Jesus began when she was just 12 years old.
“God told me to lead the youth and I was like, ‘OK, so I guess I’ll start a nonprofit organisation with that.’ Many years later, this year actually in January, the Lord told me two things: one, the greatest thing you can do is bring souls to me, and two, IOT is not just a nonprofit, it is a ministry, and from there I was like, ‘OK, let's do it, I don’t need to hear anything else’,” she said.
Ms Rodgers said after coming across videos online of young people
marching for Jesus in the United States, she thought it was an awesome idea to bring here to the Bahamas.
“I prayed about it and I just felt like my spirit inflamed inside of me. I told my team (about it) because I fully knew that I couldn’t do it by myself, nor did I want to. They all said yes and here we are to proclaim one name, Jesus Christ,” she said.
One of the march participants, Danielle Dean, shared her review of the event on IOT’s social media pages, saying: “When the rain came, we never stopped because we knew our ‘who’ and ‘why’. Jesus is everything and nothing else matters when it comes to Him. No words to describe what this experience was like; you just had to be there.”
Sophia Knowles-Wallace said: “When I say Jesus truly brings me joy. I have to share Him with everyone I know. Please accept Jesus Christ into your heart as Lord and Saviour and repent from your sins; put on your new identity in Christ. I want you to experience His peace, joy, love, comfort, strength, and so much more.”
Prime Minister Philip “Brave” Davis also had something to say about the march and shared the following on his Instagram page: “Yesterday, as the heavens opened and rain poured, I watched in awe as Beijing Rodgers and a resilient group of our nation's youth marched with unwavering spirit, echoing a timeless message of faith and unity. Their march for Jesus was not just a show of devotion, but a reminder of the
–
us all. You are a testament to the power of faith and the boundless potential of our nation's youth. Thank you for reminding us of where our true strength lies.”
Ms Rodgers noted that she is just an island girl who is passionate about changing the world for Jesus Christ, starting with her beloved home, the Bahamas.
“It’s beyond wonderful to know that we’ve got the support of our Prime Minister.
