Publisher Words By Thereaver Barrymore New year, new magazine and much news in this fourth issue! I’d like to welcome Ananda Shostakovich and MokaTana Boa. Both are fashionistas who will share with us beautiful looks in our “I [heart] Fashion” feature, together with Laylinha Tomsen, Stu Reyes and Vick Spitteler. Speaking of fashion, why not think about Pin-Ups as inspired by the Vintage Fair, the biggest event at the end of last year! Another new feature this month is the “Newsphere” section where Vick Spitteler presents us with the newest releases from our “Tropicalians” in their stores. Vick also shows us those blogs you can´t miss! Take a look at the “Blogsphere”. Silton Mindes finds the best horizon on Kingdom of Sand. Don’t forget also to check out our selected pictures on “That Tropicalia Feeling”. In closing, greetings and Happy New Year wishes to all our readers from The Tropicalia Magazine! ★ Hugs, Thereaver Barrymore. Publisher TROPICALIA MAGAZINE

Pin-up Mania By Vick Spitteler Maybe one of the biggest expressions of eroticism without vulgarity that inspires artists and designers is the pin-up style which requires attention to some details: sexy women, very generous curves,

large

breasts and

hips,

photographed and illustrated with a naive air in extremely provocative poses. Unwittingly, skirts wrap around or are raised by the wind and shapely legs clad in stockings and garter belts are on display. Yes, the garter belt is almost mandatory for retro costuming, together with vintage hair, pale skin and red lipstick. Bright colors are also always present, with prominent colors of red and navy often featured. On the printings, the choice of little balls is almost certain, but not unique. The pin-ups are

also smiling, laughing, naive and sexy.

The Varga Girl - July 1948 Esquire Magazine

First featured by Peruvian artist Alberto Vargas (1896 - 1982) who was fascinated by the beauty and style of American girls when he moved to New York in 1916, pin-ups are the goddesses of American male imaginations since the beginning of the last century. Success came in the 40s when Esquire magazine published calendars made by Vargas. During World War II the pin-ups became an American patriotic symbol with their beauty being revered by soldiers who hung their pictures on the walls of their tents. Playboy also has had a close relationship with pinups since its launch in 1953 when pin-ups illustrated their pages. Hollywood cinema also surrendered to pin-ups featuring Marilyn Monroe and Jayne Mansfield. In Europe, Sophia Loren and Brigitte Bardot were the pin-up girls of the 40s. And, known as the “queen of the pin-ups”, Bettie Page lent her beauty to men's magazines, calendars,

and

throughout the 50s. The 60s was the merger of pin-ups with Pop Art as immortalized in the works of Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Mel Ramos. With the evolution of the porn industry in the 70s, pin-ups lost out

to the porn industry, however have never ceased to be present in male culture and imagination. Being a pin-up in Second Life has never been so fashionable. And it is quite common to create pin-up calendars using avatars as models. In late 2009, the designer Patou Dumont created a pinup calendar to be used as desktop wallpaper and made it available for download. At that time the photographer Ludmila Larnia created a set of photographs titled Fruit Calendar totally inspired by pin-ups. For those who want to be pin-up girl in Second Life, Ingenue and Artilleri are two stores almost entirely dedicated to retro and pin-up fashion and style. In them you can find clothes, hair, jewelry and other items of excellent quality. Icing is another store that offers some pretty outfits. Lingerie can be found at stores like Oh Lala, on the Tableau sim. For those who like to dig for more exclusive items, it’s worth a search on the Marketplace,

where

you

will

find

many

interesting items offered by lesser-known brands. Whether you choose to adopt the style full time or just do some photos or attend a theme party, being a pin-up is all good. Are you ready to surrender? ★

The Tropicalia Bazaar II Por Thereaver Barrymore Not surprisingly, discount events are all the trend. In the same mold of The Tropicalia Bazaar on Reale Sim, a new option for shopping has come--The Bazaar Tropicalia II. The project was conceived by Vick Spitteler and Stu Reyes, residents of Second Life since 2007. Since the creation of the first unit in August 2011, the number of visitors grew, and each edition has more than 1,200 visitors. The Tropicalia Bazaar is so successful that Poulet Koenkamp, designer and owner of PurpleMoon Creations, embraced the idea, sponsored the bazaar, and invited us to open a second office on her island. Thus, new designers joined the creator’s team participating in the Tropicalia Bazaar. There are more than 25 designers now offering unique items and special deals! With alternating release dates, The Tropicalia Bazaar and The Tropicalia Bazaar II are open with beautiful and special creations. Click the subscriber next to the door and stay tuned when new collections become available. There are also unique gifts for subscribers only. So make a visit to the two bazaars and enjoy some coffee nearby.

1) We Love earrings! Amourous recently released the Paisley Earrings. They are beautiful and it’s possible to change the gems and metal colors.

2) For the men, Shiki has released the Tokyo Generation Outfit in three colors: dark olive (picture), navy and deep grey.

3) One of the biggest successes in the Tropicalia Bazaar, Edition 7, are a Pullover and Arisu Pants which were released in many colors by Poulet Koenkamp from PurpleMoon Creations. We love it!

4) Calipso Clip from Nemesis released these two beautiful dresses recently. I love the vendors with looks modeled by SL personalities. I couldn’t choose which one is my favorite.

5) Avita Noir et Bleu are the new shoes released by French Mayhem Seetan from Azoury. Aren’t they beautiful? 8) The news from the Art Body Store is the Sam skin available in 3 color packs: pale, tan and bronze. Each pack comes with 6 make-up colors with normal breast and cleavage.

6) Censored has released many new items at the Winter Fair, an event created by the brand, and it was a huge success. The Isabella skin, burned by the cold weather is my favorite one.

7) The Magenta store from Thereaver Barrymore was born recently and it’s already a success. Its original design is inspired by nature. The Spirit from the Forest necklace had a prerelease during the first edition of The Tropicalia Bazaar II, and it’s surely my favorite piece from the store (as if it was possible to choose only one)!
