FINDING PART-TIME WORK

Top tips for finding work while you are studying and after university

Your future starts here at Winchester

Make the most of your time at university and get involved with a range of activities to enhance your employability.

Many students look for part-time work while they are studying. Not only will it help reduce financial pressures, but it will add a range of valuable experience and skills to your CV. We recommend you add to your work experience during your course, whether this is through the volunteering module, a placement relevant to your course or career aspirations, or making a difference to the local community.

How to get started when looking for work or other opportunities

1 Use the University’s Careers and Opportunities platform, CareerConnect: winchester.jobteaser.com

2 Complete your profile and opt in to job alerts to be emailed about new vacancies that match your criteria.

3 Update your CV with information about your degree, work experience and skills, so you are ready to apply for work.

4 Spend some time creating a developed LinkedIn profile and follow companies that you are interested in.

5 Add to your experience by joining a sports club or society, or by being a Student Academic Rep, a Student Ambassador or an Officer with the Student Union.

Before you apply

■ Research the job and company you are applying to, and tailor your application documents to the role, to persuade them to interview you.

■ Build a well-rounded professional CV. Volunteering, societies, sports teams, placements and being a course rep all look great to employers.

■ Write an appealing cover letter to set you apart in the application process.
