STUDY ABROAD PROGRAMME

Study abroad enables you to spend part of your university course studying overseas at one our exchange partner universities in the USA, Canada, or Europe.

You can apply once you become a current University of Winchester student. You can apply in your first year, to go abroad in your second year for one semester –either for semester one or semester two. If you take part in a semester abroad, you take classes at one of our partner universities which count towards your degree.

If you take part in a year abroad, this is usually a ‘pass/fail’ year and the modules you take will not count towards your final degree mark.

NORTH AMERICA AND CANADA

WHO CAN APPLY?

Our exchanges in the USA and Canada involve the greatest number of students each year.

Not all students can go to all of these universities. Some programmes have a “best fit” with specific partners.

All full-time undergraduate Winchester students can apply, with the exception of students taking programmes where accreditation or where other restrictions apply. Please contact us to find out if your course is eligible.

WHAT WILL THE US/CANADA COST?

We estimate costs of at least £3,000 on top of what it would cost to live in Winchester for a semester.

WHEN WOULD I TAKE PART?

Students normally take part in the US/Canada exchange in Semester 1 of Year 2.

Students studying Archaeology/Archaeological Practice can study abroad during Semester 2 only. Students studying Accounting and Finance, Fashion: Media and Marketing and Psychology can study abroad during Semester 1 of Year 3 only.

WHERE WILL I LIVE ?

When studying abroad, you will usually rent a room in a hall of residence at your host university. It is more than likely that you will be in a shared room. When you return to Winchester, you may be able to stay in University of Winchester housing.

EUROPE

WHERE CAN I STUDY?

We have a number of exchange partnerships with universities in Europe.

WHO CAN APPLY?

Our European Partners are usually course specific as we are restricted by programmes taught in English. Please contact us directly if you are interested to find out if your programme can take part at one of our European Partners.

WHAT WILL IT COST?

Generally, you will have the cost of travel to the destination as well as some visa fees and your living costs might – or might not – be higher than at Winchester.

WHEN CAN I GO?

Either semester in Year 2 or in Year 3 for certain programmes. Check with your programme.

WHERE WILL I STAY?

When studying abroad you will rent a room at the partner university for the semester. When you are back in Winchester you may be able to stay in University of Winchester housing.
