ANIMAL WELFARE Positively contribute to the advancement of animal welfare and bring about a better world. One of the University’s core values is Compassion – for people, animals and the planet. Our Animal Welfare and Animal Science courses encourage you to explore modern concepts of animal welfare, while considering the relationships between humans and other animals, from whether we should consume animals to the human causes of biodiversity loss. You will examine animal welfare across multiple scenarios involving both domestic and exotic species, in captive and wild contexts, while the broad scope and thought-provoking content enables you to discover and develop your areas of interest, with optional modules allowing further specialism. As the University for sustainability and social justice, our animal-focused degrees allow you to critically question the place of animals in human society or examine how animals are affected by human-induced changes to ecosystems. We explore animal welfare by examining the biology of animal wellbeing and suffering, and investigating biological, ethical and legal

considerations around our treatment of animals in relation to human society and ecosystem health. BA Animal Welfare and Society is a multidisciplinary degree which investigates human animal interaction through a range of perspectives including animal behaviour, animal welfare science, ethics, religion, politics and sociology. BSc Animal Science is a natural science-based degree which critically examines the relationships between animal welfare science, conservation biology and environmental sustainability, following a planetary health/one welfare approach. Through practical modules or work placement opportunities you will be able to develop key employability skills, or experience working with leading animal organisations. These courses will allow you to take advantage of a diverse international job market. Our graduates find employment in commercial, charity and government sectors.

THEOLOGY Our stimulating and analytical Theology courses deal with the big questions of human existence. Why do we exist? Can we prove the existence of God? What is the role of religion in the contemporary world? How should we treat each other? Our Theology course focuses on traditional Christianity in the modern world, its roots and formation, and its development within a political and cultural context. You will explore the challenges faced by Christianity and the ethical, philosophical and political dialogues it engages with. On our broader Theology, Religion and Ethics course, you will examine the way religious ideas and practices interact with the contemporary world and how the

concepts from the great thinkers of ancient and modern ethical philosophy relate to today’s issues. Learn from staff who are comfortable with big questions and know how to make their subject interesting. You will grow as writers, debaters and thinkers developing skills in reading, critical argument and cultural literacy. You are welcome to study from a position of faith, no faith and/or from a critical perspective.
