runa Bhagwan, of Nora Draper has joined forces with costume designer Kate Unwin to launch Atelier Kate Aruna with a beautifully hand-crafted collection for Autumn Winter 2012. Inspired by suffragettes and the strong women of World War II, the couture collection is designed for contemporary women who need to dress to impress. And which of us doesn’t, given that we come under so much more scrutiny for our appearance than our male counterparts? Aruna founded Nora Draper to create bespoke clothing for clients struggling to find stylish, good-quality clothes that fitted them perfectly and expressed their personality. The experience begins with choosing fabrics,

including tweeds sourced from the same supplier used by Chanel; toiles are then fashioned from your first fitting, before your garment is exclusively hand-tailored. With a growing clientele, Aruna wanted to offer the seasonal inspiration of a couture line. The chic, bold statement pieces of the debut Atelier Kate Aruna collection nod to the palette and silhouette of AW12 while their exquisite quality, timeless beauty and easy-to-wear style guarantees you’ll reach for them season after season. All in all, a visit to Atelier Kate Aruna feels less like making an investment purchase than making an investment in yourself.

Be A Christmas Bond-Shell As the festive season approaches the party invitations will inevitably start rolling in.

I

nspired by our Bond theme, this month we checked through the 007 archives for makeup trends to take you from casual Christmas drinks with friends, to a more formal New Year’s Black Tie Ball. Whatever the gathering, our pro-tips for this season’s looks will see you through in style.

GoldenEye For a traditional style makeup this Christmas and New Year, try a champagne or gold shimmer shadow on the eyes. Finely line with a black pencil or liquid and go all out with volume to the lashes. Keep the skin fresh and radiant, with a hint of a coral cheek. You can’t get more festive than a red, velvety lip but if that’s too intense, lighten the look with a red gloss that has a touch of sparkle. Benefit Smokin’ Eyes Kit £28.50, Boots

16

Whatever your Bond Girl style, have fun experimenting with one of our party looks this Christmas.

NARS The Multiple, £26, www.narscosmetics.co.uk

From Russia with Love Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector, £14.40, John Lewis

For the Ice Princesses out there, keep the look cooler by using silver and grey tones on the eyes, going for length rather than volume with the lashes. A slightly matte foundation lends a satin finish to the look, and a dash of a pink cheek gives a modern ‘just caught’ flush. Balance out the face with a subtle pink or berry lip and a touch of highlighter on the Cupid’s bow.

For Your Eyes Only If all out glamour is your style, let’s not forget the smokey eye. Rich shades of purple, bronze and blue create a decidedly glitzy look when lined with intense gel liners and false lashes. Shimmering highlighter on the top of the cheekbone and a more neutral bronze shade underneath; shape the face while leaving the emphasis on the eyes. A fuller coverage foundation works well with this more defined look. Finish with a peachy nude lip and a slick of clear gloss on top.

Hyaluronic Acid

What every woman should know Hyaluronic Acid (known as Hyaluronan/ HA) is a protein found the body.

I

ts greatest concentrations are in the synovial fluid of the articular joints (as a lubricator), the vitreous humour (fluid) of the eye and abundantly in the skin. As we age, we produce less HA, resulting in our joints becoming stiff, skin drying out and issues arising with our eyesight! Recently, major cosmetic companies have added HA to their face creams, as it is proven to bind 1000 times its own weight in water molecules, naturally “filling” and “plumping” dry skin. It is the collagen that gives the skin its firmness but it is the HA that nourishes/hydrates the collagen. Imagine the collagen as a rubber band, stretched millions of times;

Gary Trickett Healthy Route

18 Silver Street Leicester 0116 253 9097 www.healthyroute.co.uk

eventually it dries out becoming perished! In much the same way the collagen in our skin reacts when insufficient HA is present. But when there is plenty of Hyaluronic, the chances of the skin drying out and damage occurring is minimal.

In the joints, HA also supports collagen and maintains healthy synovial fluid. Supplementing HA restores moisture & lubricates the joints. Imagine joints of the human body as a car engine and the joint fluid as the oil in the engine. At regular

intervals, we replace oil in our cars because heat and friction breakdown the oil’s viscosity, resulting in damage to the metal surfaces, from excessive wear. HA acts in the same way. As we age the viscosity of the joints breaks down, becomes thin and is unable to cushion the joint cartilage. This leads to increased friction and wear on the cartilage surfaces of the joints. Hyaluronan helps restore

the normal viscosity of the joint fluid and prevents further damage. Hyaluronan is concentrated inside the eyeball. The fluid inside the eye called, the vitreous humour, is composed almost completely of Hyaluronic acid (HA).

The HA gives the fluid inside the eye a viscous gel like property that acts as a shock absorber for the eye and serves to transport nutrients. Those using contact lenses, who suffer from dry eyes or “floaters” (clear worm-like images seen when squinting your eyes), may also see improvements by regularly supplementing HA. Some brands to look out for include Natures Aid and Solgar in capsule form and Syno-vital which is a liquid. And for as little as £1 per day, it is not an overly expensive product, considering the potential benefit!

It is the collagen that gives the skin its firmness but it is the HA that nourishes/hydrates the collagen.

Creating Balance

With the New Year just around the corner, we begin to think about resolutions and changes we can make to our lives in order to create balance and find greater fulfilment.

A

s a society we all lead busy lives, rushing around juggling family, friends, work and all kinds of other commitments. It Gillian Carter Service and Training Lead Apple Counselling 07551905559

22

has become increasingly difficult to find time for ourselves but this is the one investment that can have a huge positive impact on our quality of life.

When we feel that there isn’t enough time in the day, we can begin to feel anxious, stressed and tired. We can’t give as much energy as we’d like to our daily tasks and end up not giving our full attention to anything. This can lead to further anxiety and can negatively impact on our mood. The key is to recognise these symptoms early. Do we become irritable? Forget little things we would ordinarily remember? Comfort eat,

or eat less? Recognising these signs in our behaviour early, can help us to prevent further problems which if not addressed can impact on our physical and

mental health. When these warning signs start to appear, it is important to take stock and regularly find a little “me time”. Women in particular struggle with this concept, feeling guilty and quickly coming up with a long list of reasons why it is not possible to take time out for themselves, away from children. It can be surprisingly easy to strike a better balance between time for ourselves and time dedicated to other things but it requires a commitment to looking after ourselves and a rejection of guilt. The importance of taking care of ourselves cannot be underestimated and research shows that when we find time to do activities we enjoy as part of our daily routines, rather than once or twice per month, we are better able to cope when life throws a curveball. So why not invest in yourself this festive season with the gift of time.

Tips for greater wellbeing: n Schedule at least 30 minutes per day, time just for

yourself to do an activity you enjoy E.g. have a beauty treatment, have an extra-long bath, phone a friend, read a book.

n Socialise with friends regularly and take the kids

with you if necessary! n Recognise your own stress warning signs and when they surface slow down and try to find more time for you, even if it is time to rest. n Make time for fun! Laughter has been shown to improve wellbeing. n Regular exercise also improves wellbeing and helps to raise self- esteem. n Be organised – reducing clutter has been shown to improve mood and reduce anxiety.

See if you are eating to fill in time or because you are bored or tired. Ask yourself ‘How could I find something satisfying to do?’ ‘What do I really enjoy doing?’ If you are tired ‘Do I need to go to bed early?’ Give yourself permission to have a rest.

So why not follow Sanjaya’s top 5 tips to help you avoid overeating during the festive period and beyond: 3. Go for a walk or take some exercise 1. Think about As well as exercise being whether you are known to reduce hunger hungry levels by affecting hunger Stop and ask yourself ‘What am I really hungry for?’ ‘How could I satisfy this feeling without food?’ If you are lonely think about what you could do to reach out to

Keeping note of what you eat each day and the mood you are in when you eat may help you to identify some trends, which is the first step in helping you to stop doing it.

5. Be specific when you shop

Plan your meals carefully. If you don’t buy biscuits, they won’t be in the cupboard for when you think you are hungry!

And remember overeating is a behaviour that can be changed!

Brewin Dolphin Celebrate 250 years with 007

The Brewin Dolphin Leicester office celebrated their 250th anniversary on 8th November by holding a private viewing of the new James Bond movie, Skyfall.

Film Review GREAT EXPECTATIONS

Classification: 12A Showing: Fri 14th - Thu 27th Dec

M

ike Newell (Four Weddings and a Funeral) directs this Dickens’ adaptation, with a script from David Nicholls. We follow Pip an impoverished orphan, growing up on the Kentish moors as he unexpectedly meets an escaped convict, becomes acquainted with the wealthy spinster Miss Havisham, comes mysteriously into a fortune and pines for the hand of the cold-hearted Estella. It’s a tale of rags, riches, devotion and manipulation that has stood the test of time. Jeremy Irvine plays Pip, delivering that same compassionate vulnerability that he demonstrated in War Horse earlier this year, whilst Ralph Fiennes and Helena Bonham Carter are

28

on great form. Bonham Carter in particular makes for a memorable Miss Havisham; she brings a delicate, porcelain-doll fragility to the character - as though just a harsh word would shatter both her mind and body. This very traditional adaptation will be criticised by some for not taking risks with the material or attempting to challenge the audience, but sticking closely to Dickens’ timeless novel is a good fit for this superb British cast. For those who love period dramas it makes for perfect Christmas viewing. The Phoenix Cinema and Digital Arts Centre Box Office: 0116 242 2800 www.phoenix.org.uk

BOND IS BACK James Bond turns 50 this year, and celebrates five decades as British intelligence’s number one lethal weapon. And he’s holding up remarkably well, don’t you think?

D

aniel Craig’s latest instalment Skyfall holds special significance for fans of 007, as for the first time we delve into the murky world of Bond’s dark past, his relationship with his family, and how it moulded him into the man he is today. It’s interesting to learn then that the 44-yearold actor, widely lauded as the best Bond since Sean Connery, nearly turned down the chance to portray the iconic spy.

30

“I think I was just a little bewildered that they would even come to me,” Craig explains. “It wasn’t even on my radar. And I suppose I was concerned about being typecast. But you know, when you weigh it up, it’s not a bad thing to be typecast as James Bond! I’m incredibly proud and lucky to be in the position I’m in here. Especially to have made this film and to be around when it celebrates its half century – that’s very special.” Reports long suggested that this would be Craig’s last outing as 007. What made him change his mind? “Money” he snorts cheerfully, in uncharacteristically playful humour. “Yeah, I’m doing Bond 24 for sure, 25 is still up in the air but that’s looking hopeful. Look, I have a great time with these movies; I’m not in any rush to shirk off the responsibility. For as long as people want to see me as Bond, I’ll happily oblige.” Craig’s third outing as the iconic spy sees him face the mysteries of his dark past while M, played once again with great majesty by Dame Judi Dench, watches on as murky dealings come back to haunt her. Directed by Sam Mendes, who assembled a stellar cast with 28 Days Later star Naomie Harris and sultry newcomer Berenice Marlohe providing the necessary eye candy,

the Oscar winner landed a coup when casting Javier Bardem as Bond’s deadly adversary, Silva. And diehards may be slightly surprised to see a homoerotic subtext in 007’s relationship with Silva. “I don’t see the world in sexual divisions, and nor does Bond,” Craig tells. “It’s not the way I look at the world. There’s a new twist, but it was great to flirt with Javier. It’s a game of cards. And what’s great about Javier, is that he plays it for real. You know, he plays it to the limit. And I love that scene. It makes me laugh. I hope it makes the audience laugh too.” The stunts in Skyfall are some of the most daring yet, and while Craig feels they’re getting easier with experience, it’s seems to be the constant running that frustrates him most. “I had to do a lot of running in this The stunts in Skyfall are movie - which I hate! So I did a lot of some of the most daring sprinting and running because Bond yet, and while Craig feels doesn’t usually walk through a room. And I wish I could change that. I they’re getting easier with wish he would come more gracefully experience, it’s seems to be through a room! You know, he runs the constant running that down the stairs, and then he runs up frustrates him most. the stairs. And we had to do 10 takes at a time. So by the end of it, I’m kind of, how shall I say, ‘I just can’t investigated in the latest movie, did take it!’” Craig - who’s married to actress With Bond’s upbringing finally Rachel Weisz - find this a novelty? “Nobody told me that we couldn’t make an action film with a good story and I’m delighted we’ve gone down this road. At the end of the day, Bond’s a killer, you know? He kills for a living. It’s really a kind of a dark place he goes to. So some dark stuff must have happened in his life in order for him to be able to do that.” Right now, nobody knows the spy better than Daniel himself. What are his thoughts on Bond’s life off screen? “Marriage? Children? Then again, everyone he loves has been killed so maybe that says he’s a lone wolf off screen, who knows? Maybe we’ll find out more about that further down the line – it’s the story that never ends.”

MUSIC Review Sufjan Stevens Silver & Gold

A

t a mere 58 tracks, Silver & Gold is more anthology than album, combining a vast selection of voluptuously reworked Christmas classics new and old, ranging from a flute-accented rendition of ‘Carol of St.Benjamin The Bearded One’, to a minimal

version of ‘Coventry Carol’ – complete with slide guitar and violins – with a few originals interspersed. Sufjan Stevens’ lush arrangements work with his vulnerable tenor, and the frequent harmonisations with a small group of alto singers, create beautiful swells. Familiarity is imperative with a collection like this, and many songs are little more than cover versions, but making them more than that would miss the point: the volumes comprising this collection were recorded as gifts for

friends and family; Silver & Gold is more about love for your fellow man throughout the Yuletide than musical individuality. Stevens has, however, always been idiosyncratic so his ‘sound’ is always apparent in even the strictest depiction.

Many songs stand out and deserve intent listening, but Christmas music is never the foreground aspect of a holiday gathering. Playing in the background, however, Silver & Gold is a fantastic collection of songs that remain original yet unchanged.

last minute christmas cake I write notes in my diary, I ask friends to remind me, but no matter what, I never seem to get round to making my own Christmas cake in time for it to mature. So if like me, time has caught up with you (again!) don’t think your only option is to trot down to the supermarket. For the last few years this is the cake I have made. It tastes mature and what’s more can be made as late as 1 week before Christmas!

the brandy, ginger and cinnamon. Stir together, cover with cling film and microwave for 5 minutes on full power. Leave to soak for 1 hour. n Beat the butter and sugar together then add the eggs, one at a time. Fold in the flour and almonds. Add the fruit and mix. Turn into the lined cake tin and smooth the surface with a metal spoon. n Bake uncovered for 1 hour then cover with foil or baking parchment and bake for a further 1½ hours until a skewer comes out clean when stuck into the middle of the cake. Leave to cool in the tin, then remove and wrap in triple cling-film. n Decorate up to 1 week before Christmas. Heat the apricot jam and paint

½ of it all over the cake. Cut the marzipan into 2 pieces (about 1/3 and 2/3 of the block). Roll out the large piece until it is as wide as the depth of the cake and long enough to go all the way round. Wrap it around the side of the cake and trim. Roll out the smaller piece so it fits the top of the cake and stick it on. Trim to shape using a sharp knife. n Brush the marzipan all over with the remaining jam. Roll out the icing, keeping it in one piece big enough to cover the top and the sides of the cake. Lay it over the cake and fold the icing down so the sides are covered. Trim off any excess.

This is homemade, so don’t panic if it isn’t a perfect shape or your icing isn’t flat. Merry Christmas!

requirement for a traditional 3 box style. This style has no significant impact on rear seat headroom or luggage space, making the XJ a popular choice as a chauffeur driven limousine. Witness “M” being driven in an XJ in the latest Bond film “Skyfall”. One of the most striking aspects of driving the XJ in my experience is how the car’s size suddenly shrinks when on the move. The aluminium body is very light, the suspension well tuned and the 3 litre twin turbo diesel engine

is extremely smooth and responsive. This makes for tremendous progress when on the move. On A and B roads the car is easy to place and judge, making hurried cross country driving a blast! Motorway journeys are a delight and the longest distance can be undertaken without hesitation. Inside, the deep set, leather wrapped dashboard swoops around into the door panels and gives a warm, enveloping feeling. Levels of specification are excellent with amongst other things, a large touch screen controlling climate control, audio systems, telephone and supplemental features including the optional TV with dual- view facility which gives driver and front seat passenger differing views from the same screen. Something even “Q” would be proud of. When asked about the choice of vehicles for the film, co-producer Andrew Noakes said, “Bond is quintessentially British and Jaguar and Land Rover are two of the most established and globally recognised British brands, so it was a natural step for us to involve them in the film.” To see the XJ appearing in this latest Bond film is great but the very best way to see this sensational car is on your driveway every morning and night.

As we head into winter at the end of an unusually wet golfing season, it may once again be an opportune time to evaluate your equipment.

W

ith Christmas around the corner, it could be just the right time to drop the subtle hint to your nearest and dearest as to what you would really like to receive. The greatest technological advance in golf for some time is the handheld gps or laser distance measurers. These have become the must have gadget to aid the modern golfer in his or her quest for lower scores. It has now become a disadvantage not to own such a device! I know that many of the golfing purists find the idea of using technology to give precise yardages to the player outrageous. But in response, it is only like having your own personal caddy; the player still has to hit the shot. An added bonus is that it also saves

Bushnell are probably the most widely used laser measurers in golf.

time in relation to pacing out to distance markers sometimes up to fifty yards apart, thus speeding up play. So what is the difference between a gps and a laser distance measurer? I have been using a Skycaddie gps for three years now and have found many benefits. Firstly, the device gives a clear picture of the hole being played. Also yardages are given to the likes of fairways, bunkers, water or any other hazards on that hole. Distances are also given to clear such obstructions, giving the player a much more informed decision on the shot ahead. As you get closer to the green, a clear picture of the shape, length and width of the putting surface is available, giving measurements to the front and back of the green. It is

then also possible to move the cursor to where you actually believe the pin is situated on the green, providing an even more pinpoint yardage. Bushnell are probably the most widely used laser measurers in golf. These are once again a hand held device which the player can look through the lens and actually click on a point which could be a flagstick, bunker face, tree or indeed anything and give a precise measurement. These are perhaps preferred more by low handicappers

and professionals alike due to the fact that the measurements given are more precise than a gps. On a personal note the greatest benefit I have found is that being given a precise yardage takes away any doubt over club selection resulting in a more positive outcome, particularly with yardages from 100 yards and lower. So take your game to the next level this Christmas and don’t get left behind.

Making a Move in 2013?

Following a busy autumn period in the residential market we look ahead to the opportunities for prospective purchasers in the New Year.

BUYERS

A

huge proportion of property searchers currently sit in rental accommodation waiting for their ideal home to become available for purchase. So will 2013 bear fruit for home searchers? January is commonly an active month in the property market as many buyers have given time and consideration to their property moves over the Christmas holiday and identify what they want to view once the New Year hangover has worn off. The key for prospective

Peter Wyatt Fothergill Wyatt Estate Agents If you wish me to cover anything specific please feel free to email me at:

info@fothergillwyatt.com

purchasers is to be registered with an active agent to ensure they are not missing unannounced opportunities. Buyers may scour the internet and papers on a weekly basis but not every property makes it that far. The added danger with unregistered property searchers is that you can fall into the trap of believing you have viewed everything you need to know about a property online, or in the Property Guide. Many however are only advertised with limited information, or the details simply can’t convey all on offer without a physical viewing.

It is the skill of the Agent to ensure that every registered applicant is informed about properties suitable for them before they make it to any other form of advertising. They will also get to understand your specific requirements and discuss the pros and cons of any newly available home, eliminating the risk of missing or misinterpreting a property advert. Instruction rates of new property in Leicestershire have improved in the final quarter of 2012 and

46

comparing this to the same period a year earlier this looks positive going forward. House prices remain around 1% lower than the same time a year ago and the term ‘buyer’s market’ is still relevant. Be flexible to move, decisive and realistic to make the most of new opportunities over the next 12 months.

SELLERS For sellers the opportunity is rife to take advantage of all those frustrated buyers

who don’t feel that there is enough new property coming forward. Forget the old rhetoric about seasonal markets and spring/summer being the only time to put your home up for sale; buyers don’t chose to find a property at a given time, they are opportunist. Families may decide to make a physical move at half term or Easter holiday but to do this they are searching now.

Forecasters see property prices relatively unchanged in 2013 so having an accurately priced property is critical. A recent Rightmove report tells us that nearly 60% of buyers are likely not to arrange a viewing

at a suitable property if they feel it is overpriced. Far too many properties come to market with overly ambitious prices and unsurprisingly it is these same homes that remain unsold months later. Your agent should guide you accurately and you should ask them how close their sold prices are on average to their marketing prices. The East Midlands was one of the most active regions in the UK for sales in 2012 and we anticipate this trend to continue. There are strong existing and emerging new markets for quality property at all price levels, particularly with a continuing outflow of London commuters to Leicester suburbs and our

county market towns with good access to mainline railway stations. One further tip for success in 2013 – invest in presenting your home for sale. This year has demonstrated that well presented homes proved more successful than ever for a speedy sale. Cautious buyers need to be reassured that they are viewing a home that has been well cared for, and stylish homes inspire people’s purchasing decisions.

I wish you a Happy New Year and every success for your move in 2013.

alkard & Elliott, a high quality carpet and flooring company previously based in Granby Street, Leicester; have ‘floored’ their customers, by moving to a purpose built Showroom, 5 minutes from Fosse Park, doubling their stock ranges, and introducing a personalised interior design service of curtains and furnishings. Stuart Elliott and Steve Elliott, joint Managing Directors, who took the business over earlier this year have lost no time in listening to what their customers wanted and putting it all immediately into place. They discovered some exciting new ways to deliver a bigger and better service, taking on board all the comments they received. First was the need for a bigger premises, where more choices could be stocked, including some brand new to market, high quality but lower cost options, using polypropylene materials that are now engineered to look and feel just like a more traditional 80-20 wool twist pile. Having the space to display ranges of hard wood flooring from laminates to real oak, has also increased choices, for those who want to experience a ‘one-stop-shop’ for all their flooring and furnishing fabric needs.

54 54

“People demand quality” says Stuart, “And they can now choose high quality flooring in all price ranges, and select curtain and furnishing fabrics with our exclusive new in-house interior designers” So the Granby Street shop was replaced in October, by their exclusive new showroom in Aylestone Lane, Wigston, which is now open 7 days a week including Sunday’s until 4pm, and 7pm on Thursdays. You can now enjoy a free car park and tranquil atmosphere with free tea and coffee; while you wander at leisure between the traditional York Wiltons, Brintons and woven Axminsters, the classic 80-20 wool twists, the contemporary plant fibre ranges of Sisal, seagrass, Coir and Jute, and the striking lines of Crucial Trading designs; to the new lower price but high quality Carpets, laminate and

hard wood floors, and beautiful rugs and curtain fabrics. Stuart Elliott, recent joint MD added: “And we are still the only flooring company that will move your furniture, uplift your existing flooring, and take it away afterwards for you!” Dalkard & Elliott who have been established in Leicester since 1963, are delighted with their new premises. They believe that their tradition of good service and old fashioned values; combined with modern premises, easy parking facilities and new and exciting flooring ranges in the lower and middle price ranges; will make shopping for new flooring into a stress-free and pleasurable experience, and invite you to come and visit and see for yourself!

BUSINESS & FINANCE

Giving up rights for shares The Chancellor George Osborne has outlined radical plans which will see employees giving up some of their statutory employment rights in exchange for shares in the business they work for.

A

imed primarily at start-up businesses and SMEs, the new proposals mean employees would enter into an owner-employee contract, under which they would receive between £2,000 and £50,000 of shares. Any income gained on such shares if later sold by the employee would not be subject to capital gains tax. However, in exchange for the shares, employees would be required to give up their UK employment rights on: unfair dismissal, redundancy, the right to request flexible working and the right to request time off for training. On top of this, women would

Ashley Hunt Employment Partner Lawson West Solicitors Limited mail@lawson-west.co.uk

56

be required to provide 16 weeks’ notice of a firm date to return from maternity leave, which doubles the usual eight week requirement. The legislation is tabled to come into force in April 2013, at which time employers will be able to insist on owner-employee contracts for new recruits.

The proposals have met mixed reactions from business groups. John Walker, national chairman of the Federation of Small Businesses said: “We believe it will promote share ownership and loyalty to those companies which offer this initiative, with potential benefits following in terms of greater productivity. However, we suggest that the number of businesses who adopt the scheme may be small and we look forward to seeing the details.” John Cridland, director-general of the Confederation of Business Industry furthermore described the scheme as a “niche idea and not relevant to all businesses”. On the side of the employee, other organisations were more critical, including Mike Emmott, employee

relations adviser at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, who said: “It is far from clear how attractive the offer to give up employment rights in return for shares will be to prospective employees of small firms.” Paul Kenny, general secretary of the GMB trade union also commented: “Slashing people’s employment rights under the guise of ownership

schemes won’t create jobs, and it won’t create growth.” Anyone that is contemplating trading their statutory employment rights for shares would be wise to take advice from a solicitor, who would look after their best interests. Any income gained on such shares if later sold by the employee would not be subject to capital gains tax.
