"Every day should be a walk down the red carpet" - C Trav
Hello everyone!! Thank you again for your interest in the Valley Mix of the 256! I am the Editor-in-Chief and a long time resident of Madison, Alabama. I've had my share of Huntsville living as well. It is a difference; I can tell you. I've been living in Alabama for about 16 years now and I've traveled top to bottom. I went to the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa for 2 years and then transferred to Calhoun and UAH. There is a lot of hidden excitement and talent out there that needs to be seen and heard! I'm hoping my magazine will shine the light in those dark places- not only in the Valley of 256, but ALABAMA in general. We are not some old country state stuck in old times; We're a continuing revolution! The Valley Mix is going to be as awesome as you are. I also have a blog you can check out: www.twenty8keys.blogspot.com. It is a bunch of randomness I put together. Topics that are relatable or something I pulled from my mind's deep crevices. LOL! Spread the word and lend an eye... hopefully this won't be our last good bye!

The Acquaintance of Facts and Truths: DJ Big O 317

Story by: CharleeSmiles
Cincinnati
Hello every one! This is CharleeSmiles and I’m bringing you a story about a young man who’s been in this Music game for 25+ years, but he’s not a rapper or singer!
Born overseas, DJ Big O was a military brat so he’s well-traveled due to the fact that his family moved around
a lot. This gave him the opportune chance of being exposed to different cultures and their music. In the eighties, DJ Big O got heavily into break-dancing and deejaying. His earliest influences came from pioneering New York City Hip-Hop stations; such as, WBLS and Kiss-FM. "He remembers Mr. Magic's Rap Attack Show. And, other deejays like Kool Herc, Red Alert, Melle Mel, Grandmaster Flash, Kay Slay, Jam Master Jay, and many others..."DJ Big O recalls.
Fast forward, after serving 17 years for his country, DJ Big O continues to be a true voice in Hip-Hop.
DJ Big O has done radio, deejaying, and has record company experience. He’s dealt with the Music Industry in such a huge way that he learned exactly what to do to make it the right way. DJ Big O no longer hits the Deejays booth to spin. I personally say, what a great misfortune! Out of pure curiosity I’ve asked what it would take to get him back in the booth if only for one time or one night? I’m still waiting to get a response. If you have had the pleasure of watching any of the many YouTube videos. You’ll see Radio/Club DJs from the Midwest, North, and South have the utmost respect when DJ Big O comes on the scene! Now, he does his best to stay low-key, a spectator in the crowd but, somehow he’s always pulled into the mainstream simply to be acknowledged.
19
Cincinnati
He had the First Ever Record Pool and Salute The DJs
Event! The awards were made in the shape of a microphone and given to DeeJays to show Appreciation for the dedication to the craft, and loyalty in “Breaking Records”. DJ TopSpeed graced the crowd a dynamic show of turntable skills and DJ Wrekk One accepted his award letting everyone know not only does he show love to his city, community. He also shows support to Indie Artists even if it is frowned upon on mainstream radio. There was a panel of selected judges to listen and remark on a selection of Artists looking to Perfect their skills. From there DJ Big O was asked to be apart of the Nerve DJ Conference as well as The Toledo’s 419 Awards Conference panels. His knowledge, straightforward approach is what catches people's attention. He lacks the ability to be a “Yes Man”. That's what cause people to listen and make moves in the right direction. DJ Big O is always focused on the next two to four steps in the process of maintaining the upper hand. Doing the impossible and making it seem so effortless.
20
Cincinnati DJ Big O is a man who can travel anywhere from 500 to 5,000 miles in a two-day span without a second thought about it. Equipped with his Team, cameras, and video equipment. These things are needed when you make impossible moves, with visual proof there’s no need to speak on what you have accomplished! You just broadcast it worldwide. He’ll tell you in a heartbeat things you should do as an Artist is to use every social media outlet possible! The stronger you are virally the people who search for you, can find you when they look you up. Be willing to “Invest in yourself and your Brand!” So, if you have the opportunity to meet DJ Big O don’t be afraid to say Hello. His bark is rough but, there’s so much information he has for you to learn and use.
Even tho, I'm still waiting to see what it would take to get his presence back in the Deejays booth you can catch him with his clients that he manages. Yes, he's the Manager of Mr. Marquise (DJ Squad 574) Jackson of Indiana and Mr. Stanley (Moss Da Beast) McCullum one of Chicago's Finest. If you are interested in finding Mr. We Break Records, Mr. If It Don’t Make Money:It Doesn’t Make Sense! You can find him on all of the Social Media networks and on his website! Just Wondering
There are many of us working minimum wage jobs, some work
more than one at a time. So many people get tied up into making money they don’t get to experience life the way they actually dream. I was one of those people. A couple years ago, I was trying to attend school full time AND work TWO jobs- full and part time. As I looked around I saw college graduates not able to find jobs or working alongside me . Something is wrong with that picture! Local jobs prefer college educated people, but don’t allow you to work a decent schedule beneficial to you. Yes, they’ll work with your schedule; but they don’t want to compensate for you to make a living while going through school. Seems a lot of young people are skipping school all together. I wonder if there is a correlation between the two. The new generations aren’t too enthusiastic about making changes when it comes to certain pertinent circumstances involving their future. Too many are content or ignorant about the way of the economy. People complain and don’t jump into action! How is that for future America… Where are we headed? 24

DIY: Around the Home Tips from Creative lifestyle blogger and ePattern Designer: By Megan Of Brassy Apples
Supplies:
•Canvas (found mine at Hobby Lobby in a 2 pack for $7.99) •Fabric •Contact paper •Spray paint •Staple gun •Printer and exacto knife or a cricut machine 26
Step 1: Cover your canvas in the fabric you selected and secure it with a staple gun on the backside of the wood frame.
DIY: Cut it Out!
Step 2: Using contact paper cut out the letters of your saying on a circut machine. If you don't have a circut machine, you can simply print off your saying in whatever font and size desired. Then place your contact over the top and of the paper, trace and cut out with an exacto knife. Position the letters on the canvas. When you have them where you'd like them to be, peel off the paper backing and stick the letters to the fabric.
27
DIY: Cut it Out! Step 3: When all the letters have been placed, spray a thick layer of spray paint over the entire canvas. Let dry. If needed, apply another coat.
Step 4: When it is dry, peel the letters off. The color and pattern of the fabric underneath the paint will POP through creating a GREAT contrast!
28
DIY: Cut it Out! Final Step: Hang it on the wall!
*You don’t have to use fabric, you can just use a black canvas and letters

I cater to the younger crowd as well! It’s all how you feel about yourself and how you want to be presented. Valley Mix: What is your price range? Paper Dollz: My prices range from $20 to $80. I believe that just because you have a boutique it doesn’t mean that you have to be expensive. I want my clothes to be affordable for a lot of people. Interview
There’s a reason
Rhynne’s boutique is unique! As soon as you walk though the door you are overwhelmed with a feeling every lady of fashion desires: “Personal Shopper Experience” A one-on-one customer/client interaction you can’t receive from any department store. Over a year ago, Rhynne worked in sales as a personal stylist at JCPenney. Like most employees she had a base pay and received commission. She turned her dream into a reality, as she started the process of becoming self employed. At first, she was selling clothes from her car, going place to place; until she got tired of hauling clothes around. She invested in a space and named it Paper Dollz Boutique, after a childhood dress up toy. The shop opened on April 16, 2011, right before the tornado incident that changed the lives of many people in our area. I find it to be coincidental that a clothing shop opened when many clothes were lost or ruined. When you have a

Interview blank slate, you have an opportunity to make a change. Start fresh! The Paper Dollz Boutique’s philosophy is to: Change Often. Bounce from look to look whenever you please, no what the circumstance. You don’t have to wait for a major situation to do just that! *Shop on at Paper Dollz Boutique*
Paper Dollz Boutique has been in a number of Fashion Shows around the area including: some shows at the Civic Center and most recently, The Sally’s Hair Show! You can also host, along with Rhynne, a personal fashion show of you own with a few of your closets friends. Also, if you are going out of town or to an extravagant event she will help you create the look of your dream! Personal shopping with a personal stylist

T-shirt Contact Paper Bleach Pen X-Acto Knife
Directions:
Simply draw your favorite design on the contact paper in whatever method you choose, freehand, tracing, or stencils. Then use an x-acto knife to cut out the design. Cut in a square around the design, this way you get the most out of the contact paper. Now remove the backing of the contact paper with the design and place it on the t-shirt and press down. Now for the bleach pen shake before use. Unscrew cap on chosen tip. Do not have both caps off at the same time. Squeeze and apply liberally. Replace cap after use. (Note: Using large quantities increases the chance of affecting adjacent colors.)Rub design area. Leave for one minute and dab off Bleach Pen Gel with a paper towel. Then wash t-shirt. Voila‌.instant design!

Street Way Fashions
My Favorite Style
Written by: Courtney Travis Created via Polyvore: cdtravis
My eyes lit up and my voice let out a scream as I flipped through the pages of one Lucky Magazine’s early Spring issues. My favorite style was coming back: Vintage and Color! That meant I could finally redo my wardrobe. It’s hard trying to buy clothes as the fashion trends constantly change; I have my own! I refuse to buy the latest fashions because that is also what 98% of the population will also be wearing. There have been countless number of times when I go out and everyone has on variations of the same type of outfit.40
Street Way Fashions Ridiculous! I love the classic look with a modern twist. It’s much easier to stand out in a crowd when you’re not going for the same look. Since your style came back, aren’t you looking like everyone else? No! They look like me, haha. There’s a difference between the designer and the purchaser. As in, I have motive behind my fashion and not just “monkey see monkey do”. I’ve never been afraid of color either. Color is fun! Colors have been associated with provoking moods and feelings. At least, that’s what I wrote about in a persuasive research paper I wrote in college. I will throw color(s) in an entire outfit or play it up with accessories. I’ve noticed ladies from up North or the older generation tend to stay away from color. Apparently, it can be unprofessional or too attention grabbing. It all depends on your personal style. Many boutiques have personal stylists on hand to help you create a certain look, if fashion isn’t your strong suit. I look for classic patterns and color combinations others don’t think to put together. Lately, I’ve been drawn towards DRESSES! Long, flowing ones with distinguishing patterns. The shortest I’ll go is a little above my knees; any shorter and I feel like I need to be near a pole. No offense to those who prefer short ones. One reason I can’t pull it off; I don’t have the body type. I prefer the dresses that are fitted at mid-waist then flow away from my body. To add my own style, I’ll wear belts or scarves and complimenting jewelry. It doesn’t matter the occasion you can never go wrong with a dress! Whatever it is find a look that makes you feel great and look great #UnstoppableAttitude

Interview Throwing an event as extravagant as you are?! All is missing is a *cAkE* created from Just Crumbs! Valley Mix got an inside look at what is mixing in the mind of local Cake Decorator: Michelle Odom. Valley Mix: How you became interested in baking? Just Crumbs: I have always loved to bake and I had the best two teachers a girl could ask for- my mom and my grandma. I became interested in baking cakes from watching the cake challenges on the Food Network and just started to make cakes for friends. Valley Mix: How long have you been baking? Just Crumbs: Baking it's self, I have been baking all my life; but baking and decorating cakes for about four years. Valley Mix: What made you decide to open your own business? Just Crumbs: I decided to start the business after a lot of moral support from family and friends. I didn't want to get into something that I couldn't handle. I love to work with my hands and I love to create new things with cake. VM: What makes your bakery unique? Just Crumbs: What makes Just Crumbs unique is the cakes themselves. I am such a detailed person; and I think the amount of detail in the cakes make them unique and almost feel real. VM: Where would you like to see you and your business 5-10 yrs from now? Just Crumbs: I would love to be able to open up my own store front one day and just be a small bakery, where it is all about the cakes. VM: What food network show(s) would you compete in and why? Just Crumbs: Honestly, I don't think I would want to compete in a Challenge. I would beat myself up if I couldn't finish in time or I left some sort of detail off; but it would be an experience for sure. Recipes They say everything taste better with cheese and bacon!!! From: NancyCreative.com
BACON-CHEESE PULL APARTS
1 egg 2 Tablespoons milk 1 (16.3 oz.) can Pillsbury® Grands® Flaky Layers Refrigerated Original Biscuits 4-6 slices crispy bacon, cooked and broken into 1/2-inch pieces (or you can use 4-6 Tablespoons packaged real bacon pieces) 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese 1/4-1/3 cup finely chopped green onions (4-5 medium), using both the green and white parts of the onion 1 (4-ounce) can mushroom pieces (optional) cooking spray
Directions:
Here’s a close-up of all that cheesybacon-onion yumminess!
•Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray an 11×7″ or 12×8″ (2quart) glass baking dish with cooking spray (if you don’t having either of those size pans, you could probably use a 9×13″ pan–it just may turn out a little flatter). •In large bowl, beat egg and milk with wire whisk until smooth. Separate biscuit dough into 8 biscuits and cut each biscuit into quarters. Gently stir the biscuit pieces into egg mixture to coat evenly, then fold in bacon, cheese, onions, and mushrooms, if desired. •Spoon the mixture into your sprayed baking pan and arrange biscuit pieces in a single layer. Bake 23-28 minutes or until golden brown. •Serve warm by cutting into squares, or just pulling biscuits apart. Makes about 8 servings.

Spicy Honey Chicken
Recipes
by Our Best Bites
Ingredients: 8 boneless skinless chicken thighs, about 2lbs (you could use breasts as well but thighs stay more moist) 2 teaspoons vegetable oil Rub: 2 teaspoons granulated garlic (you can sub 1 teaspoon garlic powder here) 2 teaspoons chili powder 1/2 teaspoon onion powder 1/2 teaspoon coriander 1 teaspoon kosher salt 1 teaspoon cumin 1/2 teaspoon chipotle chili powder Glaze: 1/2 cup Honey 1 Tablespoon Cider Vinegar
Directions:
Combine the rub spices in bowl and mix well. Use kitchen shears to trim off any excess fat from the chicken pieces. Pat dry. Drizzle oil over chicken and rub in with your hands to lightly coat all the pieces. Then toss chicken with the spice rub to coat all sides well. Use your hands and get in there! Grill chicken for 3-5 minutes on each side, until cooked through. While chicken is cooking, warm honey in the microwave so it's not so thick. Add the vinegar and combine well. Reserve 2 Tablespoons of the honey glaze for later after the chicken has cooked to pour on right before serving. Take the rest and brush on chicken (both sides) in the final moments of grilling.
TIPS I'm gonna warn you that this can make a hot mess, literally. It's sugar, and it's gonna drip. But the smelly smoke is worth it for a minute or two. Just leave your grill on for a few minutes after the chicken is done to burn off any excess glaze. It's totally worth it once you taste this stuff. If you don't have a bbq, try it on an indoor grill pan or use your broiler. Just be sure to open a window in case you burn your glaze! 48

1st Annual Madison Derby Day Location: Downtown, Madison Date: May 5, 2012
A few lovely hosts showcasing their Southern Belle dresses
52
The
first annual Madison Derby Day was held in Downtown, Madison on May 5, 2012. There was lovely hosts walking around in their southern belle dresses, to go along with the theme of the Kentucky Derby events. There were a number of tents set up throughout the area that enabled spectators to learn about local businesses or purchase homemade gift items and dÊcor. To get people into the spirit of things, local residents offered tours of their classic homes. These large plantation homes are beautiful and add to the essence of our downtown feel. The tours were $5 per person and free for children; refreshments were available in some homes. Other attractions also peaked the interest of the younger crowd, the infamous mechanical bull ride to be exact! A thrill find for the brave! Afterwards, a tent across the way served the most interesting treats – fried desserts. Yes! The menu consisted of fried: oreos, twinkies, and snicker bars. The vender also caters to parties and events and sets up a stand to serve your guests, google for more information.
A fun way to spend time with the *family*

Rap kings coming from all different backgrounds perform to see who has what it takes to get the crowd moving. For those close to Madison the 11th Frame Bar is a low key hangout, for now! Interview
An interview with an up and coming Music Entertainment Label based out of Birmingham, Alabama.
65
Valley Mix: Where are you from? HD ENT: Birmingham, AL- “Da Eastside“. Valley Mix: What made you decide to start your own company? HD ENT: We (essay and champ) are starting this business because we wanted to call our own shots… our O.G told us once that we can have anything we want if we just work hard and go get it, so that’s what we have been doing ever since. Valley Mix: How did you come up with the name? HD ENT: I got the name “Champ” from my mama. She nicknamed me that because at the time I had a lot of adversity in life; and every time life knocked me down, I got back up and overcame the situation. Valley Mix: What all does you company entail? HD ENT: Music, promotion, and retail. Valley Mix: What kind of music inspires you? Why? HD ENT: Anything I can relate to; because music is a part if every day life.
Valley Mix: What are you bringing to the entertainment industry that sets you apart from others in your field? HD ENT: My unique style, flow, and the raw passion I have for expressing my different emotions.
66
Valley Mix: What does "Hip Hop" mean to you? HD ENT: Hip hop is a gateway for artists to express every day situations. Valley Mix: Do you believe you have to follow a trend in order to attract listeners? HD ENT: No, I tend to start my own trends being that my style is kind of different from the average rapper. Valley Mix: How long have you been involved with music? HD ENT: I first fell in love with music when I was 6 years old. I had a strong desire to play the drums at my church so I taught myself how to play; and I still play to this day. Valley Mix: Who was the first concert or artist that caught your attention? Why? HD ENT: I would have to say my first Lil Boosie concert. It was amazing how everybody knew the lyrics to his songs and how much of an influence he had on the crowd. Valley Mix: Who do you prefer to listen to? HD ENT: Anybody that raps from the heart! Valley Mix: Would you rather have your named spelled wrong on an award or be mistaken for someone else? HD ENT: I would rather have my name misspelled on an award because if I’m receiving and award that must mean I’m doing something right. Plus, I’m used to having my name misspelled so its not a big deal, as long as they get whatever message I’m trying to send through my music.

Here’s an interview with the new up and coming Artist: Sy Yung brought to us by Spndoctr via Hiphopencounter.com
Look out!
It isn’t easy for a young male to break into the major leagues of baseball. It is even harder that same young man to land a major supporting role in a movie. Now add on top of that this young man is African American. This same young man is also using his music as an outlet and to entertain the masses. Let me introduce you to Friedel Pinkston.
The name may not be known throughout the world yet but in some parts of the country the stage name of Sy Yung is making quite a buzz. We caught up with Sy Yung to talk to him about his most recent projects.
HHE: We read your last release “From the Mound to the Microphone”, very interesting piece. Very inspiring story. Sy: I appreciate that man, no better story than a true one.
And any story that shows the blessings that we receive and the perseverance of the human spirit should be put out there more. I’m not going to give up and hopefully my story will inspire some kid to keep pushing forward too.
HHE: So what’s been going on with you lately? Sy: Man, I got a lot going on right now, just trying to get my
foot in the door at a lot of places
69
HHE: I checked out Maintenance Man 2, is there another installment coming
Look out!
Sy: Yeah, I am still pushing my featured single “Bring it Back”. The response to that record has been consistent and the spins are there so we still moving forward with it. It will definitely be a part of Maintenance Man 3 that I will be dropping sometime late spring or early summer; based on my filming schedule HHE: You shoot videos for this project or you do “other stuff” (side laughter) Sy: Now man, nothing like that. I’ve just been cast as the only other African American in the bio pic for Jackie
Robinson. The movie is titled “42” and it should be released around Jackie Robinson Day 2013.
HHE: That has to be wild to be a part of such a historically important player Sy: This whole thing is surreal. It is an extreme honor to be a part of any movie. But to be a part of a picture to someone who paved the way for me to be able to do what I am trying to do on a daily basis is a real blessing. Doing this movie, thus far, has been the highlight of my professional career. Jackie means so much to not just baseball but more importantly, he is a civil rights icon right there with Rosa Parks, Dr. King and others. It is truly a blessing and honor to do this.
70
Look out! HHE: That’s a good look bro’ much respect for that. Is this a movie for NBC or you coming to the big screen (not hating, just asking)? Sy: This is a major production. I leave for Birmingham in a few weeks, then Macon, Georgia ,and a couple other spot locations. If all goes well, I should have the first lines in the movie. HHE: That is definitely a big step. So how have things been going since the arm injury? Sy: Things are going steady. I have been tossing up either music and sports, or sports and music. Which project takes priority over the other? I’ve had my surgery, I work out daily and I am just trying to keep in major league ready shape for when I get that call for a workout or camp tryout. The arm is definitely ready. In the meantime, it’s just been me and my music. I’m on my third major project with some serious established production. My material is still for the ladies. Some club tracks here and there and a few social conscious joints but it all comes back to the ladies. I make music for them. HHE: You have a title for the next project yet? Sy: We tossed around a few suggestions but I finally settled on “Cut the Check”
71
Look out! HHE: any collaboration on deck Sy: I might have a few, I may save them for a single or two but the move right now is to just focus on finishing the project ASAP because you never know how long a shoot may go. In my dealings with music videos, a 2 hour video shoots turns into a 10 hour shoot real quick so I am trying to get the music out of the way NOW to I can give all of my focus to the movie. HHE: So music, movies, and major leagues…you have anything else up your sleeve. You plan on hitting up Dancing With the Stars next or Iron Chef? Sy: (laughing), Now man. I just want to stay busy. Whatever I do I promise you; whether it’s me doing music or me doing movies or me on that mound, I will give it may all. Maxes Out Music is not just a name and label for me, it is also my philosophy. If you gone do something, give it your all or don’t do it at all. I know I have a lot of options on the table and God has blessed me with various option and I’m just using everything that God gave me and putting every ounce of me into. I just hope the people like it.

Chicago
An phenomenal artist based out of Chicago, Moss Da Beast is EXACTLY what the name implies! I had the opportunity to meet him during one of his visits to Huntsville, Alabama. It was at the Radical Affairs’ infamous Jello Wrestling Tournament and I was at a booth, with my brother, taking pictures and blogging. One of his entourage members ,Charlee Mitchell, came up and handed me a Moss flyer and pointed across the room. Next thing I know I was introduced to a very passionate artist! He also happened to capture the crowd’s attention with his captivating stage presence; you can’t help but to turn your attention towards him. His motivation to be heard brought him down to the South. His determination pushes him to use his charisma and voice his talents across the country. He is currently organizing his Live from the Elevator Tour TBA. For more information hit him up via Facebook and Twitter.

MILITARY MINDED By Andrea Howard
a.k.a. M2
Some time ago, I came across a rapper by the name of DINERO on twitter (@The_D_Tour). I happened to come upon DINERO as I was trying to check out all things R. Kelly. I saw a tweet indicating that he was discovered by R. Kelly and it included a link to the following song/video.... [youtube= http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zQSbVn4Dnc&feature=plcp] 76
I was impressed; mainly because I tend to be a little on the picky side when it comes to music. It was a big deal that I even made it all the way through the song, let alone the fact that I wanted to hear it again. He had something special; I started to follow @The_D_Tour that day. It quickly became evident that Dinero was not the only one who is Military Minded. As I watched and listened, I discovered that Dinero truly has a brigade of: rappers, producers, promoters, models, DJs, entrepeneurs etc... in his network. They say "it's not what you know, but who you know", and Dinero definitely seems to have the "who you know" portion down. During a business trip to Tennessee earlier this year, I had the pleasure of meeting this native Chicagoan and true U.S. soldier in person. After a conversation with Dinero it became evident that he also had the "what you know" portion of that equation too. As time went on and even as I began to develop AndreaSpeakz I continued to be a fan of Dinero's. For more insight into Dwight Nash a.k.a DINERO, read his bio below documenting his early life & his beginning in rap as well as the origins for his Military Minded mentality.
"Discovered by R. Kelly, Dinero (Songwriter, Artist, CEO) has worked with many of the industry's top performers not only in collaboration on tracks but as the writer behind many of the hits you love and know.
77
Biography With hunger, rawness and artistic diversity, Dinero is raising the bar for all up-and-coming artists, while swiftly challenging established veterans. He hails straight from the city of Chicago which has given hip-hop some of the greatest and most talented lyricists of our time - and Dinero is no exception.. Through this hot Mixtape "Despicable Me" (Military Minded Ent/Billionaires Row/TG3), Dinero confidently rocks over the 26-track compilation filled with mid-west swagger, east coast lyricism, and telltales of a skillful and talented man who combines his experience in the military and the streets to paint a picture of reality and struggle over potent - and even commercially ready beats. Not only a showcase for the media, the labels and A&Rs, the album is also set out to illustrate to hiphop fans, how capable and how necessary Dinero is to the game. As a way to vent, he first began to rap while serving in Afghanistan. A defining point in this young man's life, Dinero's choice to join the military at 17 years of age was an escape he was looking for from the destructive surroundings of Chicago's most notorious projects, the Stateway Gardens. The similarity between the military and the streets of Chicago was one of many life's lessons Dinero learned early on, and felt the urge to pass on. "The military taught me that no matter where you go and who you are, everything's a hustle. The corruption and overall lack of integrity in the military opens your eyes to a world that most don't want to believe; that most disguise as normal." And although he grew up around dealers, boosters, hustlers and gangsters, Dinero kept up his grades and was able to steer away from the negativity of the streets all the while keeping his ears and eyes open. Without anything resembling a hand-out - or even a male role model - Dinero decided from an early age to pave his own way and take charge of his life. Forming the label Military Minded Entertainment, he set out to apply the lessons of the streets and the military, to rap. "It reflects a state of mind; you have to have loyalty, you have to have honor, you have to be able to stand tall, be on your Ps and Qs and just overall ready for anything. It reflects every hood, every hustler, every real soldier; everybody that can get up in the morning when all odds are against them and survive." 78
Dinero's strut is a reflection of where he is from and it's something that Chicagoans will pick up on almost immediately. "When you envision Chicago projects, streets, alleys, ball courts, etc., you see that most cats look like me. I am the image, the face of most hood cats." Dinero utilizes that image, and transfers it onto his music, creating addictive joints that reflect his swagger, his mindset and everyday lifestyle. "I make music for people like myself. Something I can throw in my ride and bump, something I can listen to when I'm grinding, working out, in the barbershop, etc." Perhaps most important of it all, he caters to the diversity; a balance in hip-hop which has been lost between the gauge of the mainstream and 'conscious'. "There's a lot of cats that rap for female audiences, club atmospheres, conscious rap, real rap, stunners, up-lifters, etc. There's metaphoric lyricists, straight to the point lyricists 'ya hook got you there' lyricists, one hit wonders, longevity rappers, etc. I think I fit in great with all of them - I can give you a catchy hook with hot lyrics, great swagger, crazy beat and a universal feel. And I do that while delivering soulful, straight from the heart words that people can relate to."Despicable Me" The Mixtape is genuine proof to Dinero's ambitious claims." https://www.facebook.com/pages/Dinero/122434967830483?ref=ts&sk=info#!/pages/Dinero/122434 967830483?sk=info
Another sample of what Dinero can do... [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0 wWXpRX8w1o&feature=plcp]
79
] Truth be told, I was wondering why I hadn't seen this young man on 106 & Park yet. In a day and age where every rapper is trying to be like the next guy, Dinero seems confident and comfortable being exactly who he is. Maturity beyond his years and a talent that shows much more than just a nice flow, Dinero makes me remember why I love hip-hop. Originality, versatility and skill. I fully expect to see DINERO on the mainstream stage very soon. I'm confident that talent and hard work will always win out in the end...and he has overwhelming amounts of both.

Interview Meet Madison, AL’s current mayor Mr. Finley
Valley Mix: As mayor of Madison have you gotten to complete any goals you’ve set for the city? Finley: Absolutely! Together with the council, we have accomplished goals: hired an economic development specialist, road projects, secured funding for James Clemens High School, and built strong relationships with the surrounding communities. Also, development on the new target shopping center and brought government access to all.
Valley Mix: There have been a lot of commercial and residential growth within the city- are there more to come? How can residents take part? Finley: Absolutely, the entire Tennessee Valley worked together to create jobs. Madison is the premiere choice for living with families because of the education system available for their children. Commercial growth will continue; we’ve specifically hired someone in place to bring business quality to Madison. You can find information about volunteering and city meetings on our website www.madisonal.gov.
Valley Mix: What is the mayor of the city responsible for? (Personal definition) Finley: Taking care of our citizens by managing departments that keep them safe; help support the infrastructure that gets them from work and play… create recreational opportunities for families- just to name a few. The council decides rules and regulations; the mayor manages and follows through to support. Valley Mix: Are you running for mayor again? Finley: No.
87
Interview Continued Valley Mix: How are you getting the newly adult generation familiar with city politics? Finley: We’ve upgraded our website (ww.madisonal.gov). We have multiple facebook pages that share important city information. We are looking to bring destination spots such as patio restaurants, etc. Valley Mix: What MUST happen or successfully follow through from your career as Mayor? Finley: First, end as strongly as we started and remain consistent throughout. Make sure there is a good transition with the next in line so they are prepared to take the reigns. Valley Mix: What do you like to do for fun? Finley: Enjoy my family! My wife is the Assistant Principal at Bob Jones High School. We have all boys, ages: 19, 16, and 13. I like to: fish, play racquet ball, yard work, and anything to have a relaxing peaceful time. Valley Mix: Are you from Madison? If no, how long have you lived here? Finley: I’ve been in North Alabama since ‘88 and Madison since ‘95. I’m from Owensboro, Kentucky. I went to Murray State University and majored in Marketing.

Celiac disease, also known as gluten intolerance, is a genetic disorder that affects at least 1 in 133 Americans. Symptoms of celiac disease can range from the classic features, such as diarrhea, weight loss, and malnutrition, to latent symptoms such as isolated nutrient deficiencies but no gastrointestinal symptoms. The disease mostly affects people of European (especially Northern European) descent, but recent studies show that it also affects Hispanic, Black and Asian populations as well. Those affected suffer damage to the villi (shortening and villous flattening) in the lamina propria and crypt regions of their intestines when they eat specific food-grain antigens (toxic amino acid sequences) that are found in wheat, rye, and barley. Oats have traditionally been considered to be toxic to celiacs, but recent scientific studies have shown otherwise. This research is ongoing, however, and it may be too early to draw solid conclusions.

What is Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS)? HS is a common, painful, debilitating, and chronic inflammatory skin disease affecting 1% of the global population, primarily occurring in inverse areas of the skin, e.g. axillae and groin. HS variably presents clinically with painful and chronically recurring, deep-seated follicular nodules, papules, pustules and abscesses, leading to suppuration, fibrosis, distortion, degradation and hypertrophic scarring of the skin. The etiology/pathogenesis/cause of HS is not known. HS remains a distinct and separate disease. In the past, direct comparisons of HS to sweat gland and acne diseases have delayed the planning and development of focused HS research which could discover the actual cause. The following published articles and medical perspectives provide general information which further defines and describes HS.

Rest in Peace Written by: Courtney Travis
Salvatore Massaro is the handsome baby boy gracing the cover of this magazine! Sal lost his life very early, but while he was here he had an awesome one! He was surrounded by a very loving, unique family and on the “eager to meet” list for many close friends and family members. I was fortunate to babysit Baby Sal, whom I called “Squishy”, earlier this year. He was one of the best babies I’d ever kept! I was looking forward to watching him after I recovered from my surgery. His grandmother would drop him off at my house in the mornings and I kept him for a few hours. He and my son are a few weeks apart; they would just stare at each other and take turns getting fed. Since they were around three months they were confined to their swings. I was so devastated when I learned my Squishy was no longer with us. I could only imagine and pray for his family! Sal passed away at daycare sometime after being placed down for a nap. The cause of death remains unknown because he had a clean bill of health. He was growing normally for a baby his age. SIDS (sudden infant death) syndrome is nothing to be taken lightly. Get educated. My prayers go out to all who have lost a child!
