Testimonials: (Looking for some new comments of success)

Fall 1991 and January 1992

Testimonials: My cousin and his new wife (both in their early 40’s) were visiting my mom, my sister, and I. My sister asks, “So, how did you meet?” They kind of giggled and asked each other, “Should we tell them?” They said they met through the LBYL column. My sister and I decided we would try our fare at meeting “Mr. Right”. (BTW, my cousin and his wife are still married and hopelessly in love.) My sister didn’t have much luck, but in January 1992, I saw this ad that kept drawing my attention. As described, he really wasn’t what I was looking for, but... We met later that month for the first time; got engaged in 1993 and married in 1994. We will celebrate our 25th anniversary this October and we have a 23-year-old daughter who lives out of state. Thank you, LBYL!

(Family Features) Although cold weather isn’t directly to blame when you get sick, it creates an environment that makes it easier for germs and illnesses to thrive. In fact, understanding how cooler temperatures affect your chances of getting sick may be your best approach for preventive care.

Prepare Yourself for Cooler Weather VALLEY HO E IMPROVEMENT VALLEY AUCTIONS VALLEY HEALTH

Despite the old adage that “you’ll catch your death of cold,” the cold itself doesn’t cause illness. More accurately, the cold is more hospitable to viruses, making it easier for them to spread. While you can’t control Mother Nature, you can take steps to protect your health when temperatures drop.

Protect Your Immune System

A weakened immune system makes it harder for your body to ward off intrusive germs. If you’re otherwise healthy, protecting your immune system can be as simple as stepping up typical healthy habits, like eating plenty of nutrient-rich produce, getting enough sleep

and exercising. Managing stress and limiting alcohol consumption are also helpful in managing your body’s immune response.

If your immune system is compromised by an underlying condition, talk with your doctor

about what you can do to add an extra layer of protection during the cooler months, including any vaccines that may help boost immunity.

Combat Congestion

Cool, dry conditions can wreak havoc on your nasal passages, drying them out and reducing the protective layer of mucus that helps fight infection. Sinus pressure and congestion are often some of the first warning signs you’re coming down with something.

To treat your congestion symptoms, you can use a non-medicated option like Mucinex Sinus Saline Nasal Spray. This is the firstever saline product with a nozzle that lets you switch between two spray pressures. The “gentle mist” helps clear everyday congestion and soothes the nose while the “power jet” helps clear tough nasal congestion often associated with colds. An added benefit is that the product can be used for children 2 years of age and older on the gentle mist setting and children 6 years of age and older on the power jet mode.

Spend Time Outdoors

People naturally spend more time indoors when temperatures drop, but there are some benefits to getting outdoors. Sunlight is a natural source of vitamin D, which plays a pivotal role in immunity. Sunlight also triggers the body to produce serotonin, which boosts your mood, and multiple studies show a strong correlation between mental and physical health.

Fresh air and exercise are also good for your

VALLEY DINING

overall health, and exposure to daylight can help keep your circadian rhythms regulated, which in turn promotes better sleep. What’s more, acute exposure to cold can trigger your body to produce infection-fighting cells, so you’re less prone to illness.

Practice Good Hygiene

The everyday act of washing your hands can play a big role in preventing illness, especially after you spend time in public places. While out and about, you likely come in contact with many surfaces others may have touched, including door handles, shopping carts, touch screens and menus. Make a habit of wiping down surfaces you touch frequently, such as your keyboard and phone, with disinfectant wipes.

the nutrients you consume properly, which affects your immunity. In addition, drinking plenty of water helps flush toxins out of the body before they can cause an infection.

Water Leaks Can Cost You Thousands. Here’s What to Know

(StatePoint) A leaky faucet, pipe or toilet is more than just a nuisance, it can lead to unhealthy mold growth and cause costly damage to your home. Such issues are more common than you may think. In fact, two out of five homeowners have experienced water damage.

VALLEY AUCTIONS VALLEY HEALTH

Fortunately, it’s easier than ever to detect a leak. Beyond the typical warning signs, such as higher than usual water bills and unexplained damp spots on walls and ceilings, new products can help you detect and address water leaks right away. The Flo Smart Water Monitor and Shutoff from Moen, for example, is a game-

changing smart water device that offers 24/7 leak detection. If the system detects a leak, your smart water valve will automatically turn off your water to prevent flooding.

Water damage can have potentially devastating impacts.

By being vigilant and relying on innovative solutions, you can protect your home, your health and your wallet.

Porch and Patio Pick-Me-Up Ideas

(StatePoint) If your concrete porch and patio surfaces are plain, ugly or in disrepair, you may assume the only solution is to hire a contractor for a complete overhaul. The truth is that you can resurface these spaces

slowly. While the normal cure time is 24 hours, you’ll want to increase your dry time when

with minimal DIY experience in just a few days. Here’s how:

Make Repairs First

As with any project, the key to success is preparation. First, pressure wash your surface, allowing it to thoroughly dry. Then use a durable repair product, such as Rock Patch, to fill in cracks, pits and holes. Impact-, moisture-, salt- and mold-resistant, this odorless, hard stone compound can patch flaws or function as a smooth new base. Because it doesn’t dry quickly like concrete, you can take your time and apply the product

applying the product in damp, cool conditions, or if applying a very thick coat.

Choose a New Surface

Give your space a huge upgrade by applying a new surface with a DIY product. The real stone surfaces available from Daich Coatings, for example, will improve the look of your porch or patio while enhancing the functionality of the space, and there are many options to choose from, depending on the amount of skill you have and the time you want to invest. The brand’s Terrazzo Decorative Granite Resurfacer has a unique formula offering a seamless overlay that is both attractive and functional, whereas its RollerRock’s self-priming formula means one less step, for instant color and beauty and an attractive textured finish.

Want to get creative? Consider the allin-one SpreadStone kit, which includes a pre-mixed primer, base coat, accent coat, clear sealer, stone texture roller and grout line stencil tape. While this process takes a little time, it’s easy to do

and will allow you to design a stunning decorative stone surface that will stand up to extreme

VALLEY AUCTIONS VALLEY HEALTH

weather. Finally, the SpreadRock Granite Stone Coating is easily applied in a thin

uniform layer using a scraper, trowel or flooring squeegee for dependable durability and a visual effect that is timeless and stunning.

Complete Your Project

Finalize your porch or patio pick-me-up in one step by applying a sealer with anti-slip benefits. TracSafe AntiSlip Sealer from Daich Coatings is not only a high performance

clear coat that will strengthen and protect your new surface, it will help keep family members and visitors safe from falls and mishaps. In fact, its commercialgrade anti-slip ratings are up to twice the OSHA standard and its high-performance, odorless waterbased technology bonds firmly to all types of flooring materials.

With just a little effort and minimal expense, you can resurface your porch and patio for a total transformation of your outdoor spaces. *****
