VALLEY HO E IMPROVEMENT VALLEY AUCTIONS VALLEY HEALTH Tips
•
Create rituals: Keeping sleep schedules consistent can make fall ing asleep and waking up easier on kids, and little rituals can make these times of the day more com forting. Try singing a wake-up song each morning to get kids moving. At night, make it a daily habit to read a book together.
• Slow down: While routines are es sential, it’s all too easy to become overly programmed. Be sure every single day includes free, unstructured time where kids can play, imagine and create. A regular schedule can make for happier kids and a calmer house hold. Using positive reinforcement and new tech tools, you can help kids enthusiastically take the reins of their own routine.
• Try fun tech: Cool tech can help lit tle ones get excited about following a routine while encouraging them to take on new responsibilities and care for themselves. For example, the My First Kidi Smartwatch from VTech, with its easy-to-use touch screen and variety of digital and an alog clockfaces, teaches time-telling skills. But it’s more than a watch, it’s also a playful “pet pal” that lets out a friendly bark at the top of the hour. Kids can even name the doggie, care for it and teach it tricks, or play inter active games featuring their puppy. What’s more, the smartwatch helps kids stay on track and learn healthy habits, with important reminders and chimes for brushing teeth, potty time and nap time. to Get Preschoolers on a Schedule
(StatePoint) Sticking to a daily routine offers endless social, emotional and physical developmental bene fits for preschoolers. Here’s how to make your schedule stick: • Seek their input: Kids are more likely to feel engaged if they are in volved in creating their schedule, so seek their input on certain details, such as the timing of their daily ac tivities. For example, ask them if they would prefer to have quiet time or creative time before lunch. Once you’ve settled on the specifics, use a dry erase board or chalkboard to dis play their daily schedule. Be sure to hang it somewhere at their eye level, and consider including little icons for each activity to help young readers make the connection between the words and their meanings.

lighting will help highlight your handy work and offer extra illumination at night. To easily install lighting without the hassle of hardware, Robertson suggests cut ting small pieces of T-Rex Super Glue Tape and attaching them to LED light strips. The high-tack, double-sided tape offers superglue-like adhesive strength for quick mount ing and leaves no mess behind.
Dress Your Walls From indoors to out, options for accent walls are endless. However, Robertson fol lows these two design rules: stick with sim plistic patterns in formal areas, such as a dining room or living room; and use abstract shapes in bedrooms, game rooms and of fices. To achieve a perfect accent wall every time, Robertson uses templates instead of a tape measure.

“While I love this trend, it’s true that the grow-out process can get a little dicey and create challenges,” says Jonathan Colombini, celebrity hairstylist. “Like any other hair color, gray requires specific maintenance. It can be wiry, dull and brassy without intervention. But low-effort solutions can ensure you look great and help you confidently own that color.”

To make a silver statement, consider Colombini’s best kept secrets: Fight Frizz Gray hair can have a frizzier, more wiry texture than you may be accustomed to. Tame tresses by using a silk bonnet or silk pillowcase at night and by getting sufficient hair-healthy nutrients in your diet, including biotin, zinc and vitamin E. Be sure to also drink plenty of water. Staying theandpromoteshydratedcirculationoilproductionofscalpforhealthier looking hair. Add Shine Counteract gray hair’s natural tendency to get dull and brassy. Every seven to 10 days, use a toning gloss to enhance your hair’s natural, gorgeous hue. While toning gloss is a service typically performed in a hair salon, you don’t need any special skills to achieve these results at home with Le Color Gloss by L’Oreal Paris. The line offers three shades of silver for all hair types and textures, helping you tone, color, boost shine and deeply condition, no matter what shade of gray you’re rocking. Whether you’re silver, silver white or silver opal, here’s how to use the product effectively:

“I like this option because it’s easy for anyone to use. It’s also infused with coconut oil, so not only will it not damage hair, but it’s also super conditioning,” says Colombini. “I recommend using it in the shower on your shampoo day.” Prime for Blow-Drying Now that warm weather is here, you’re likely going out more and styling your hair more. Remember though that gray hair can require a bit of extra TLC, making it especially important to protect your hair from all this extra heat. After towel drying your hair, apply WeightlessEverPureBlowDry Primer. Providing up to 450 degrees F heat protection and up to 48-hour frizz control, this nourishing heat protectant will keep hair looking nourished, smooth and beautifully shiny, without weighing it Bedown.Confident So much of rocking a look is the energy you bring to it. My sister asks, “So, how did you meet?” They kind of giggled and asked each other, “Should we tell them?” They said they met through the LBYL column. My sister and I decided we would try our fare at meeting “Mr. Right”. (BTW, my cousin and his wife are still married and hopelessly in love.) My sister didn’t have much luck, but in January 1992, I saw this ad that kept drawing my attention. As described, he really wasn’t what I was looking for, but... We met later that month for the first time; got engaged in 1993 and married in 1994. We will celebrate our 25th anniversary this October and we have a 23-year-old daughter who lives out of state. Thank you, LBYL!

Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of the band of tissue (the plantar fascia) that extends from the heel to the toes in which the fascia becomes irritated and then inflamed. Symptoms include pain on the bottom of the heel, pain in the arch of the foot, and swelling on the bottom of the heel. For many, the pain is worse upon arising and increases over a period of months. A telltale sign of mechanical issues in the foot, those with overly flat feet or high-arched feet are more prone to developing plantar fasciitis. Lifestyle factors can also play a role. Wearing nonsupportive footwear on hard, flat surfaces puts abnormal strain on the plantar fascia. This is particularly evident when one’s job requires long hours on the feet. Obesity and overuse may also contribute to plantar fasciitis.

Most patients respond well to conservative treatments. However, depending on the severity of the plantar fasciitis, additional therapies may be required, including:
(StatePoint) Very common in adults and on the rise in children, heel pain continues to be the number one reason patients seek care from foot and ankle surgeons. While experts say there are many reasons for heel pain, including bursitis, Achilles tendonitis, bone bruises, fractures, growth spurts and nerve pain, the most common cause is plantar fasciitis, a condition that one in 10 people will suffer from in their lifetime. According to the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS), plantar fasciitis can have serious repercussions if left untreated. Here’s what to know: What is Plantar Fasciitis?
“We typically treat plantar fasciitis conservatively, at first,” said Michael J. Cornelison, DPM, FACFAS, a foot and ankle surgeon and president of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. “This can include a combination of remedies, including rest, exercises that stretch the calf muscles, orthotics, icing the heel, over-thecounter medications like ibuprofen, supportive footwear and physical therapy.”
How is it Treated?
The recent OVERCOME study, presented at the Annual Scientific Meeting of the American Headache Society revealed that among those who experienced these migraine symptoms, approximately half hesitated to seek care, and even fewer received a diagnosis and received the treatment they needed.

10 YOUR HOMETOWN COMMUNITY PUBLICATION OF THE SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY • THE VALLEY TRADER Weekly • August 22, 2022 - August 28, 2022 • PLACE A CLASSIFIED AD — TEXT US TODAY 570-444-9850 (StatePoint) “I’m fine,” is a phrase Kelsey Voskamp, Colorado resident, used many times in her life while pushing through what she thought were just headaches. Like many others who are misdiagnosed or undertreated, Voskamp didn’t realize she experienced a neurological disease called migraine and didn’t know how to explain to her family, and even her doctor, how debilitating her migraine attacks were.
Working with your doctor to treat migraine based on your individual symptoms can make all the difference. The level of migraine treatment that your doctor recommends depends on impact to daily activities:
“I didn’t realize there was a name for what I was experiencing until I spoke with my doctor,” said Voskamp, “Having the right diagnosis can make all the difference.”
• Headaches limit your normal daily activities – especially if it has happened any day in the last three months
• You push through headache on a regular basis
Understanding the frequency and impact of migraine on daily activities can help inform the treatment decision that is right for you.
There are a variety of reasons why people with migraine are underdiagnosed and undertreated. Often times, people experiencing symptoms such as light and sound sensitivity, and nausea with a significant disabling headache don’t recognize it as migraine.
Experiencing These Symptoms? It’s Time to Think Migraine
Talk with your doctor about how headaches have impacted your life. Be sure to point out key symptoms that are bothering you:
• If you have headache accompanied by impact on your daily activities, sensitivity to light, and/or nausea four or more days per month: acute and preventive treatment could be recommended.Followingdiagnosis of migraine, it’s important to treat early and effectively for best results, according to the American Headache Society.
doctor: 1. THINK MIGRAINE Migraine is more than a bad headache. According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, it’s a complex neurological disease, typically characterized by severe throbbing, recurring pain that frequently occurs on one side of the head, and other extremely debilitating symptoms that can impact one’s ability to complete daily activities or are accompanied by sensitivity to light, and/or nausea. If these are symptoms you experience, think migraine. Ask your doctor about migraine if your headaches have limited your ability to complete activities, if you’ve experienced nausea with a headache and/or are sensitive to light.
If you experience at least two of these symptoms with your headaches, there is a greater chance you might have migraine.2.TALK MIGRAINE Due to migraine, Voskamp sometimes has to miss work and shares with her doctor that she feels like she is not fully functioning because of symptoms that impact her day. A short discussion with your doctor can determine if you need medication(s) to help relieve headache attacks or reduce their frequency.
• Light bothers you when you have a headache
• You are nauseated when you have a headache
3. TREAT MIGRAINE
• If you have headache accompanied by impact on your daily activities, sensitivity to light, and/or nausea one or more days per month: acute treatment could be recommended.

No matter what kind of treatment a patient undergoes, the underlying causes that led to the condition may remain. Preventive measures, such as wearing supportive shoes, stretching and using custom orthotic devices, are the mainstay of long-term treatment for plantar fasciitis.
