FOUR-YEAR-OLD: ROAD FATALITY #12 by DAYLE DA SILVA

CARROLL ABBOTT still clings to those moments of joy she shared with her now deceased four-yearold daughter, McKayla Abbott. Young McKayla succumbed to the injuries she sustained after she was involved in an accident with a minibus, which occurred along the Georgetown public road about 1:40pm, Monday 20th April, 2015. She was pronounced dead at the Georgetown Hospital some 25 minutes later, according to a police report. “I trying my best, but at certain times…I can’t sleep,” she told THE VINCENTIAN. Abbott, a resident of Byera, said that she would wake her other children around 4am, in order to get them ready to catch the van at Colonaire, which usually transports them to school. So every morning since the incident, at around 3:00, Abbott says that she is particularly sad. The memory of what occurred on that tragic

day still lives, she intimated. “When I picture it, it hurt me inside a lot; I will never forget this,” she said. “It’s not easy, it has caused me a lot of pain inside,” the grieving mother said. McKayla was the last of four children and, according to her mother, brought to her and the rest of the family a lot of joy. Her daughter, she McKayla would often tell “Now, is only God can said, was filled with love. her how much she loved help me to have the According to Abbott, her. faith,” Abbott said. “I am

The congregation offered prayers for the young lady who had committed suicide, and the pastor asked for all the children to look at themselves in a

mirror, which was provided, and recite the words, “I shall love, and I shall not die.” McKayla was the last to leave, her mother recalled. Continued on Page 3.

Teacher: ‘Move meant to frustrate me’ by HAYDN HUGGINS WHILE IT APPEARS to former Bishop’s College Kingstown teacher, Josette BibbyBowens, that the recent decision to place her at the Adult Education Unit is a move to frustrate her, she is happy that she would still be able to make a contribution to the nation’s development. Bibby-Bowens’ lawyers had received documentation from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on Thursday, April 16, informing them of a decision to discontinue two charges of obscene publication brought against Bibby-Bowens two months ago, and adjourned for trial on two occasions. She was expected to return to Court Friday, April 17. The Principles of Accounts and

Information Technology teacher at the Bishop’s College, was suspended from duties on half-month salary, pending the outcome of the matter.

Move to frustrate Bibby-Bowens told THE VINCENTIAN on Wednesday that on Tuesday, she received a letter dated April 17 from Acting Chief Personnel Officer Eileen Bute, informing her of the decision to place her at the Adult Education Unit. The new assignment took effect from Monday, April 20. The teacher is now based at Redemption Sharpes as part of that Unit.
