VENEZUELAN PRESIDENT Hugo Chavez has died. His death was announced by Vice President Nicolas Maduro on Tuesday, March 5, in a live telecast. President Chavez’s death comes after a two-year battle with cancer, and it ends a14-year tenure as leader of Venezuela, an oil-rich South American country. The 58-year-old leader had been diagnosed with cancer in the pelvic region in 2011, and since that time had undergone, according to official reports, four operations in Cuba. His last surgery was as recent as December 11, 2012, but he had returned home on or about February 18, to overwhelming parades of welcome by his supporters. Continued on Page 2.
