Loghurst Museum to host Trunk and Treasure sale There will be a Trunk and Treasure sale for the Canfield Heritage Foundation (Loghurst) every first and third Sunday of each month during summer, starting on May 6 (on days that the museum is open) from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. with set-up from 8-9 p.m. The cost is $10 per vehicle. Vendors are able to sell from their pick-ups, trunks of their cars or whatever vehicle they have. They may use a tent/table, etc. in their space. Mill Creek Chapter to meet on May 9 The Mill Creek Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association will host its May 9 meeting at A La Cart in Canfield. The Poland library hosted a crafting event for guests to come and make their own Easter Egg earrings for the upcoming holiday on April 10. Missy Williams, Poland librarian, provided the different supplies needed to put the earrings together. There were earring hooks, different color and size Swarovski crystals and various types of tools to bend and twist the metal post. Everyone who attended had the opportunity to make and take home one pair of earrings. Williams led the class by demonstrating how to put the earrings together from start to finish. A

website was up on the projector screen, allowing the guests to take down the information if it was something they wanted to do on their own time. “You can get as creative as you want, depending on what beads you use and how you stack them,” said Williams. Williams talked about the different earrings she has made for family members during the holidays. She and the guests spent time socializing about different crafts they make at home or with their friends. Several of the women who attended came as a group of friends. They all said how they enjoy visiting the libraries during their craft programs to learn how to make different things.

Leprechauns ca me to Joy Bucci’s after school and preschool classes at Poland Nor t h P r e s c h o o l t o h i d e little gifts for the students to find. Students celebrated St. Patrick’s day as they teamed up to look for and try and find the leprechauns. T he st udent s d ressed i n green and wore leprechaun hats with orange beards they made to get them in the spirit as they looked to find where t he leprechauns had been. The students followed clues and hints to try and discover the variety of treats the leprechauns had left behind for them. The sea rch was successful when the students found necklaces and gold coins the leprechauns left behind for them to take home. The students took part in various other St. Patrick’s Day class lessons, activities and crafts while in class to make the day fun. When the day was over, the students went home dressed up like leprechauns with the hidden treats they had found during class.

Meals on Wheels of Mahoning County teamed with several Youngstown State University student-athletes to participate in the second annual balloon launch on March 20 at the WATTS Center. More than 20 student-athletes volunteered their time to celebrate the March for Meals program with the volunteers from Meals on Wheels. This is the second year that YSU studentathletes have collaborated with Meals on Wheels and the number of students who showed up this year compared to last year has doubled. Linda Jenk ins, Mea ls on

Wheels Director, said how it was amazing seeing how supportive everyone at the launch was of the program. This is the 15th annual March for Meals which is a month-long, nationwide celebration of Meals on Wheels. “If it’s one or 100 it’s just awesome to think someone was so kind to give up their time,” said Jenkins. Meals on Wheels of Mahoning County gets credit for the amount of people who attend their events and show off the Meals on Wheels March for Meals logo and get funding for the participation. This year, the balloons Meals on Wheels provided were biodegradable so when they were released into the air, they wouldn’t

harm the environment when they came back to the ground. The volunteers and studentathletes held the balloons and March for Meals signs for a picture inside the WATTS Center, then went outside to release the balloons. “I didn’t expect this many students, but the more the merrier. And it’s for a worthy cause,” said Jenkins. Meals on Wheels of Mahoning County is self-sufficient and runs off grants and donations, not federal funding. Fourth-grade Dobbins students rocked through the decades during their concert on March 14 at Poland Seminary High School. The students came dressed in clothing from their favorite decades, ready to show the audience what they have been rehearsing. Dean Wilson and Dana Veneksy worked with the students to teach them songs from the 1950’s to the 2000’s. The students also learned how to play the recorder to the songs along with dance routines. The concert started out with a song from the 1950’s and hit each decade until they got to the 2000’s. During the 70’s, four girls made their way to the front of the stage and played inflatable guitars for one of the girl-band songs. One of the favorites of the night was the 1990’s. A group of boys formed a boy-band as they sang and danced along to “I Want it That Way,” by the Backstreet Boys. There was a script written by Venesky and before each decade. A group of students walked to the front of the stage and talked about what the music was like in the decade and what song they were performing next. Venesky said she was glad she had the opportunity to work with the students by teaching them songs and dances. She said it was more fun than it was work. The students finished off their performance with the song “Rock and Roll is Here to Stay.”

The former Catherine Bostian and Frank Billet were married March 4, 1967, at Mahoning Methodist Church. The couple have a daughter, Lori Ann Greenwood of Struthers, and a son, Andrew Billet of Austintown. They have five grandchildren. The couple are members of St. Luke Church in Boardman. Mrs. Billet retired as an office manager for Dr. Russell Hudoba in Canfield in 2006. She is a member of the Altar and Rosary Society of the church and serves as a eucharist minister. Invitations will be extended for both events. The future bride graduated from Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. She is employed as a registered nurse at the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital in Columbus. A graduate of OSU with a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, the prospective groom is a senior account manager for TruGreen in Plain City, Ohio.
