POLL RESULTS

POLICE BLOTTER April 21 Theft: Andrea L. Brimmer, 35, of Ohio Avenue, Youngstown, was charged with stealing about $67 worth of merchandise from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.

Thefts: Police charged Collette R. Gregory, 37, of Mercer Avenue, Farrell, Pa., with possessing criminal tools after having responded to a shoplifting situation at Burlington Coats, 529 Boardman-Canfield Road, and alleging she had a pair of wire cutters to remove security devices from a pair of children’s shoes. Gregory, who also was wanted on warrants, faced a separate theft count, related to a June 26, 2017, situation in which $90 worth of clothing was taken from T.J. Maxx & More, 717 Boardman-Poland Road.

Assault: An employee with a South Avenue discount store told officers an irate woman threw and struck him with loose change after he had asked the customer to move her car that he said was parked in a fire lane.

Theft: A license plate was removed from a vehicle in the 8500 block of Ivy Hill Drive.

Citations: Police responded to a report of two men passed out on the ground in the 7300 block of South Avenue, where they issued minor-misdemeanor citations charging Kristopher J. Hopkinson, 29, of Wendemere Drive, Hubbard, and Brett A. Henry, 29, of West Salem, Ohio, with public intoxication and disorderly conduct.

Theft: A woman noticed her $700 cellphone missing while at work at a business in the 7100 block of Market Street.

Unauthorized use of a vehicle: A Canfield woman said she took her 2009 Volkswagen Jetta to an Indianola Road repair shop and that after a series of correspondence between her and the business, her car has yet to be returned in a timely manner.

Theft: A Dublin, Ohio, woman reported her $700 iPhone missing while in a BoardmanPoland Road big-box store.

April 22 Attempted breaking and entering: Someone apparently tried to break into KidsTown, a child-care center at 55 Stadium Drive, before a rear double-pane window was discovered to have been broken.

Breaking and entering: Police received word that several businesses and vacant suites in a Boardman-Poland Road building had been entered, though they found no signs of forced entry through an exterior door.

Theft: A man reportedly stole four cartons of cigarettes from Walgreens Pharmacy, 7295 Market St. Menacing: An Old Shay Lane woman alleged a neighbor’s boyfriend who was armed had threatened to harm her, though he did not threaten her with the firearm. The man was found to have a concealed-carry permit, police said.

Citations: After stopping his vehicle near Southern Boulevard, officers cited Alanjuwon T. Daniels of Southern Boulevard, Boardman, after alleging Daniels, 20, had pieces of suspected marijuana, a used marijuana pipe and a small container with 35 to 40 additional pieces of suspected marijuana, papers commonly used to roll marijuana and a digital scale.

Criminal damaging: A Hillman Way woman noticed a window to her vehicle was broken, evidently when someone had tried to enter.

Felonious assault: Authorities responded to a possible vehicular crash near Hillman Way and West Midlothian Boulevard, where several witnesses reported seeing a woman drive her car into and strike a man, then drag the injured victim into her vehicle before fleeing north on nearby Market Street.

Theft: The Ohio State Highway Patrol handed to Boardman police Shatosha U. Jones, 40, who faced a felony-theft charge. The Cleveland woman was accused of stealing six security systems and a motorized scooter valued at a total of nearly $1,400 earlier this month from Walmart.

Theft: A man reportedly took a $20 rechargeable razor from Walmart.

April 23 Arrest: A traffic stop on Market Street led to the arrest of a 17-year-old Youngstown boy, who was wanted on Trumbull County warrants charging him with one count each of receiving stolen property, obstructing official business, possessing drug paraphernalia and a curfew violation.

Citation: Officers received a complaint about a possibly intoxicated man at a BoardmanCanfield Road fast-food restaurant, where they wrote a minor-misdemeanor citation charging Sean E. Cregan, 47, of St. Andrews Court, Canfield, with public intoxication.

St. James’ to host annual animal blessing On May 6 at 2 p.m., St. James’ Episcopal Church in Boardman will host its annual Blessing of Animals. All animals are welcome. For the safety of all, dogs must be on leashes, cats in carriers, etc. Owners of animals who do not travel well are welcome to bring photos of their pets to be blessed. Each animal will receive an individual blessing. Treats for people and animals will be served after the blessing.

Bigfoot in Ohio with Amy Bue Join Amy Bue, member of the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization and the Ohio Bigfoot Organization,on May 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the Boardman library as she speaks about her experience as an investigator and researcher into the eye-witnessed accounts of Bigfoot in Mahoning, Trumbull, Portage and Columbiana Counties. Bue has led and been a part of such notable investigations as the Olympic Project in Washington State where she assisted in the search for DNA evidence on the Olympic Peninsula. Bue has shared her experiences on radio and in online interviews. She has also been a speaker at various paranormal conferences and conventions. This event is for adults and teens.

Market Street Elementary School invited parents to the school for a night to learn about the school’s math curriculum on April 25.

The math night, organized similarly to the school’s reading night, took parents to classrooms for a look inside the math instruction that the students do daily at the school. They had

teachers from each grade level show the parents the style of learning done in the math classroom.

“We wa nt to g ive you a glimpse of what is happening in the classroom,” Kristin Conroy, the district’s math coach, said to the parents. She said she aimed the night at getting the families involved with the classroom and learning.

that each student has to play content-related games, demonstrated hands-on games the parents could play with their children at home and displayed a sample of their math lessons.

fourth grade teacher Denise Robinson all taught some of the families of their students.

Conroy covered the first grade families.

Conroy hopes the program will spark an on-going relationship between parents, students and the curriculum. She sent a family letter home that gave the parents suggestions of games, books and other ideas to connect family time to student learning.

Nevaeh Lindsey accepted the State Fire Marshal’s award for her fire prevention poster on April 10. Lindsey is one of 12 statewide winners in the contest, and her poster will soon be displayed on the State Fire Marshal’s website, as well as at the Ohio State Fair. She accepted the award, and a framed copy of her poster from Chief Ken Klouda of the Fire Station Prevention Bureau in Portage County. All of her third-grade classmates from West Boulevard Elementary School were there to applaud. Lindsey’s poster will also be the first displayed at Boardman Township’s brand new fire station on Market Street, according to Boardman Fire Chief Mark Pitzer. Stadium Drive nominated as Blue Ribbon School Neighbors | Submitted

Stadium Drive Elementary School is a nominee for the National Blue Ribbon School Award. The Ohio Department of Education chose Stadium Drive as one of 14 public schools in Ohio to nominate to the US Department of Education for the prestigious award. The ODE nomination is based on student achievement, as rated by the 2016-17 Ohio School Report Card accountability measures. Stadium Drive staff compiled and submitted all required application materials to the US Department of Education in March. The National Award winners will be notified in September. The Blue Ribbon School program recognizes U.S. elementary and secondary schools that make significant progress in closing achievement gaps, or whose students achieve at superior levels based on federally defined achievement criteria.

Boardman Glenwood thanks Diamond BLOTTER Steel as crane hoists composter in place Continued from Page 2

Glenwood students and staff thank the Diamond Steel Construction Company of North Lima for donating the use of a massive crane to hoist an 8 foot in diameter Earth Tub Composter over the building and into the Glenwood courtyard.

Now students will be able to finish the job that started with an EPA Grant award of $16,000 to compost the waste from the school cafeteria.

“On March 14, Diamond Steel workers helped us hook up the composter, lift it at least 30 feet in the air and glide it into place,” said science teacher Laura Frost. “It was a blustery day, so students were inside watching in amazement through the window.”

Last year, Glenwood received a highly competitive $16,000 Ohio Environmental Education Fund Grant to purchase the Earth Tub. Students at the school will now be able to reduce their waste by up to 35 percent by composting in an Earth Tub system. Dozens of students who are HOPE club members (Helping Our Planet Earth) will also maintain the courtyard gardens.

Arrest: Marcy J. Fisher of Westlake Drive, Cortland, was taken into custody during a traffic stop at Southern Park Mall and charged with obstructing official business when, police alleged, she twice provided a phony date of birth. Fisher, 47, also was wanted on a theft warrant, related to an April 10 shoplifting situation at Ulta Beauty, 403 Boardman-Poland Road, in which cologne and other merchandise was stolen.

Assault: A Forest Park Place woman alleged her roommate shoved her during an argument related to past-due rent, though the accuser was uninjured.

Theft: Authorities at a Market Street motel arrested Odell Oakley III, 48, of Winona Drive, Youngstown, on theft charges after two pairs of socks were stolen Nov. 8, 2016, from Dollar General, 4996 Market St. Oakley also was accused in a theft later that month in which eight cans of disinfectant spray were taken from Family Dollar, 4030 Market.

Aggravated menacing: Pharmacists with CVS Pharmacy, 7230 Market St., told officers a woman who was trying to get a prescription filled became angered when informed that it would not be ready until the next day, then swore at them and pointed her finger in a way that simulated having a gun.

Criminal damaging: A car in the 1800 block of Sequoya Drive was found with a broken rear window. Damage came to $600.

Identity fraud: A Prestwick Drive man reported his debit card missing, as well as three pending fraudulent charges that totaled $873.

Menacing: Two girls told officers someone in a vehicle had followed them as they drove on Market Street and into the police department parking lot.

April 24 Arrest: While responding to a possible domestic situation on Forest Park Place, authorities charged Caleb J.R. Carson, 34, with obstructing official business after alleging Carson, of Forest Park Place, Boardman, admitted having fabricated an allegation in which he accused his former girlfriend of scratching him during an altercation. Carson scratched himself and made up the story so as not to be evicted, a report showed.

Boardman Park had their annual Evening with the Easter Bunny on March 28 and 29 for families to celebrate Easter at the park.

Families arrived at the Lariccia Family Community Center for what has become a tradition for some families. The event, which sold out both nights, included food, crafts and picture areas for the families.

Karen McCallum, the park’s recreation director and education specialist, said the night is a wonderful holiday tradition for families to enjoy the season together. The event helped begin the spring season at “the green oasis“ as well.

The park set up a number of activities for the families to do in the side room. They had seven different Easter-related crafts, such as stamping and coloring picture sheets. In the corner, Nicole D’Angelo brought her rabbit for children to pet. She said representatives at the park knew to contact her through the 4H Club.

They also had photo areas in the room. They had a professional photo setting where children could pose with the Easter Bunny. Another photo area had props for the children to pose with, such as a chicken popping out of an egg and a bunny.

The Spartans opened the meet with a second place finish in the 4x800 meter relay with the team of junior Payton Torres, senior David Bader, freshman Caydin Newberry and sophomore Jackson Lipka. Steven Armour and Amy Dravecky, both of Cuyahoga Falls, exchanged marriage vows July 15, 2017, at St. Christine Church. The ceremony was solemnized by the Rev. John Keehner.

Concelebrants were the Revs. Zachary Coulter and J. James Korda. A reception followed at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica.

The parents of the bride are Joseph and Gina Dravecky of Austintown.

The groom is a son of Andra Armour of Olmsted Falls and William Amour of Parma.

The newlyweds honeymooned in Niagara Falls, N.Y., and reside in Cuyahoga Falls.

The bride wore a soft white A-line gown with embroidered lace, handbeaded accents, a curved neckline, cap sleeves and a scalloped chapel-length train. The ensemble was completed by an elbow-length veil edged in lace appliques.

Alyssa Medvec was maid of honor.

The bridesmaids, wearing Wedgewood blue dresses, were Emma Taffe, Jeannette Iskander and Margarita Lider.

The flower girl was Amelia Johns, niece of the groom.
