The evening featured displays of artwork from each student, under the guidance of Hilltop Art Specialist Diane Leonard, and musical selections under the direction of Hilltop Elementary School Music Specialist Stephanie Summers. “Welcome kindergartners, first-graders, parents, grandparents and special guests to our Evening of Art and Music afternoon show. Our fourthgrade students have put a lot of time and effort into this show. They also learned how to play the recorder for the show. I’d like to thank our fourth-grade teachers for all their help and, of course, Ms. Summers and Mrs. Goddard for all their hard work,” said Joe Maroni, Hilltop Elementary School principal. The Canfield library hosted a Spring Painting Party for tweens and teens on April 22. Amanda Kollar, assistant supervisor, youth librarian, welcomed participants to the event. “Welcome to our painting party. We will be using watercolor paint today and you can choose your colors and what you would like to paint. You can use the stencils up here, or you can freehand on your own, it’s up to you,” Kollar said. As the attendees chose their paint colors and brushes, Kollar explained the purpose of the painting party. “We are here to have fun with painting. We want to show you how easy art can be and maybe inspire you to try some other painting or drawing again at another time,” Kollar said. The library provided the brushes, watercolor paint and special watercolor paper. The library hosted a Spring Painting Party the week before for children in kindergarten through fourth grade. According to Kollar, the library hopes to continue the party and offer the event again in the future. “This is the first time we’ve offered a painting party and we hope to be able to continue it in the future,” Kollar said. After painting their masterpieces, participants enjoyed a snack provided by the library.

Metro Park Farms shows off newest members By JESSICA HARKER jharker@vindy.com
The Mill Creek Metro Parks hosted a special Tales for Tots event featuring baby animals. Two to three-years-olds and their families traveled to the Metro Park Farms to see the newest members of the farm community. Naturalist Brenda Markley hosted the event which was attended by more than 11 children. “We want to show case spring coming to the park by spot lighting our youngest farm animals,” Markley said. To kick off the event Markley
read the group “Sounds on the Farm.” Children assisted in the reading of the book by echoing the sounds farm animals make as Markley read. After reading about the animals children and their families took a trip to the barn where they got to meet them. Children were able to pet ducklings and rabbits as Markley held them. Community members were even able to meet a 2-month-old pig, Peter Porker, who is brand new to the farm. “We just have a lot of new

It’s time for spring athletics and Neighbors wants to be there every step of the way. If you’re a sports coach or the parent of an athlete, we need your help. In order to get teams and players the recognition they deserve, we want to showcase them in our pages. We can only do that if you commit to sending us game reports and photos each week. If you send it, it will get in. You can email us at neighbors@vindy.com. You don’t have to be a writer — just send us the information and we’ll put it all together. When emailing pictures, send them as JPEG files and as large as possible. Provide caption information and where people are located from left to right, front row to back. The sports news we’re looking for ranges from varsity high school teams down to middle school and even elementary and recreational leagues. We look forward to hearing about your teams successes.
