Metro Park Farms shows off newest members By JESSICA HARKER jharker@vindy.com
The Mill Creek Metro Parks hosted a special Tales for Tots event featuring baby animals. Two to three-years-olds and their families traveled to the Metro Park Farms to see the newest members of the farm community. Naturalist Brenda Markley hosted the event which was attended by more than 11 children. “We want to show case spring coming to the park by spot lighting our youngest farm animals,” Markley said. To kick off the event Markley read the group “Sounds on the Farm.” Children assisted in the reading of the book by echoing the sounds farm animals make as Markley read. After reading about the animals children and their families took a trip to the barn where they got to meet them. Children were able to pet ducklings and rabbits as Markley held them. Community members were even able to meet a 2-month-old pig, Peter Porker, who is brand new to the farm. “We just have a lot of new members of the farm community,” Markley said. The Metro Parks Farm is open weekly for community members who want to come and see the

Austintown Bounce hosts Easter Extravaganza By JESSICA HARKER jharker@vindy.com
The Austintown Bounce partnered with the First American Loans to host the annual Easter Extravaganza event on April 20. Bou nce co-ow ner Br uce Shepas said the event has been going on since about 2010. “It’s a great event, we like to do something for the holiday season,” Shepas said. During the event, First American Loans hosted three egg hunts for children gathered at Bounce. Age groups 4 and younger, 5-8, and 9 or older competed to collect the most eggs. “All of us who work at American Loans have kids and it’s hard to find an event like this,” said Jessica Summers Assistant Manager of First American Loans. “This was more inclusive because you get to bounce, you get the prizes and it’s in doors.” Summers said that the first year that First American Loans proposed the event at Austintown Bounce more than 300 community members attended. “It just took off from there,” Summers said. “It’s something we plan for and look forward to every year.” Along with the egg hunts children were able to win gift baskets and every child received a goodie bag.

The Easter Bunny greeted children on April 20 at the Austintown Bounce annual Easter Extravaganza event.
Sixty eggs were filled with gold coins, that when cashed in allowed a child to take home an Easter basket. “It’s a great additional prize and it encourages them to recycle the eggs for next year,” Summers said. She said that the baskets were donated by First American Loans community partners. The same partners also assisted in the creation of the goodie bags, which included candy, a tooth brush, pens, pencils and more for children in at-
tendance. Children were also able to spend time bouncing in the many inflatables available at Austintown Bounce. Shepas said that the facility recently got a few new inflatables, including an obstacle course. “For people who haven’t been in in a long time, the building is going to look totally new,” Shepas said. Austintown Bounce is located at 4317 Kirk Road in Austintown.
