Night market to begin in June The Mission Night Market inaugural year festivities will occur at the Huntington Place plaza, located at 1393 Boardman-Canfield Road in Boardman, on the second Friday of every month June through October, from 6-10 p.m. These dates are June 8, July 13, Aug. 10, Sept. 14 and Oct. 12.

“The best part is seeing children surrounded by people who love them and are important to them,” said principal Mary Welsh. She said the students get love from their family, neighbors and school, showing that they are all important people, too.

The event began with half of the students and their guests going to either the cafeteria for a snack or a prayer service in the g ymnasium. Later in the day, they visited whichever area they had not before.

While in the cafeteria, the guests could visit the nearby art room. They could make cards for the students who did not have a guest at the school.

The art teacher gave the cards to the students later in the day as a present.

The home and school organization organized the prog ra m, w it h cocha i rs Abby Moore, Melanie Bodine and E l i z a b et h C h a h i ne. T he y wanted to show off the school to the guests. They set up five sessions throughout the day that sent the guests to different parts of the school with the students.

Each of the teachers at the school organized special activ ities for t he students to demonstrate their skills and learning. For example, students had a science fair in one room and played math games in another.

On April 26, the Boardman Singers and Chorale performed at the VA Medical Center in Hampton, Va. The performance was part of their annual trip. Their performance for the veterans was well received as many of the songs had a military connection such as “What a Wonderful World,” “Bill Bailey,” “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,” “Armed Forces Salute” and “My Shot” from the Broadway hit musical, “Hamilton.” The group also visited Colonial Williamsburg, Busch Gardens, had a clinic with Dr. Don Krudop and attended the 22nd annual Virginia International Tattoo performance, which featured military bands from eight different countries.

The songs that were performed at the veterans hospital will be featured at this year’s spring choral concert celebrating 100 Years of Choral Music in Boardman Schools.

Boardman ‘Owls’ to compete at state Neighbors | Submitted

Two Boardman teams competed in Northeast Ohio’s Envirothon competition on April 26. Fifty teams competed, and the Boardman teams came in third and 14th. The Boardman “Owls” team has earned an all-expense trip to state competition June 11-12, near Dayton. The Envirothon is a competition among high school students designed to enhance interest in the environment and natural resources. Throughout the competition, students are tested in the subject areas of soils, forestry, wildlife, aquatic ecology and current environmental issues. The Boardman “Owls” competing at the state level are Sophia McGee, Rita Sulebi, Pranav Padmanabhan, Danny Turillo and Justin Olsen. Bake sale benefits Angels for Animals

Brynna Jones had her second annual bake sale at Fred Astaire Youngstown in benefit of Angels for Animals on April 20.

Brynna, a first-grade student at West Boulevard Elementary, worked with her family to create an event to help Angel’s for Animals. She adopted her cat, Rockzie, from the foundation four years ago and wanted to give back to the organization.

The funding will go toward Angels for Animals’ capital campaign to help the organization expand their building and capabilities. Lindsay Jones, Brynna’s mother, said Brynna was excited to help out as soon as she heard about the new building.

“What [Angels for Animals] does for the community is just amazing,” said Lauren Potts, a former volunteer with the organization and a current employee of the dance studio.

Potts said the capital campaign will allow Angels for Animals to create an animal wing to the building, making way for more animal treatment capabilities. The building will make the organization able to expand the number of animals they can house, allow for veterinarian visits and offer emergency services.

Jones set the goal of $200 for her first bake sale, but she surpassed that, bringing in $1,000.

Her father, Dustin Jones, owns the dance studio, so they had the sale there. The studio sees group classes at 6:45 and parties at 7:30 every Friday, so they planned the sale to occur during those events.

The organization w ill be breaking ground on the animal wing soon, but they have not yet fulfilled their campaign goal of $10,000,000. The organization always looks for people willing to help, whether through donations, volunteers or foster homes for animals.

POLICE BLOTTER May 10 Arrest: Authorities at Boardman Area Court on Market Street took custody of Evan F. Williams, 70, of Oak Knoll Drive, Boardman, who was wanted on a telephone-harassment charge, related to a Nov. 21, 2017, situation in which his girlfriend alleged Williams had sent her another in a series of such text messages.

Aggravated menacing: The landlord of a Wolosyn Circle apartment building reported a former tenant threatened to burn down the structure.

Identity fraud: A Market Street man found a $295 fraudulent charge to his Best Buy credit card.

Theft: A Milltrace Road man reported $200 worth of patio furniture had been removed from his rear deck.

Theft: Jordan J. Lorraine, who listed Warren addresses on Linden Avenue Northeast and Palmyra Road, was charged with stealing a $70 Xbox controller from Target, 417 Boardman-Poland Road. Lorraine, 26, also was wanted on a Trumbull County warrant charging theft.

Theft by deception: A Glen Park Road woman told police she had met then bought an iPhone for $450 from a man before discovering the phone was inoperable, evidently because it was linked to a delinquent account.

Drugs: A traffic stop near Shields Road resulted in the arrest of Charles F. Walter, 37, of Humboldt Avenue, Youngstown, on charges of drug abuse and possessing drug paraphernalia, when, authorities alleged, two containers in which a straw common in drug use and a small amount of a white powder that tested positive for methamphetamine were found.

Domestic violence: Officers booked Rayah J. Jenkins, 21, of East Boston Avenue, Youngstown, on a domestic-violence charge after an Aug. 22, 2017, situation in which her boyfriend, of Hillman Way, alleged Jenkins punched his face during a heated argument, then threatened to have relatives kill him.

Theft: A woman reportedly stole 18 articles of clothing valued at $187 from T.J. Maxx, 717 Boardman-Poland Road.

Counterfeit: A manager with Iron and String Life Enhancement Inc., 755 BoardmanCanfield Road, discovered a $991 check had been made payable to a person who’s not an employee with the business.

Theft: A Mill Creek Boulevard man noticed 40 over-the-counter pills missing from his basement.

Burglary: Someone crawled through a crack in a garage door to a residence in the 100 block of Prestwick Drive, then removed about $5 from a car inside.

May 11 Arrest: Officers responded to a report of a man passed out in a car near the Boardman Plaza on U.S. Route 224 before charging Phillip T. Bolender, 28, of Idlewood Boulevard, Austintown, with operating a vehicle impaired and possessing drug paraphernalia. Bolender, who registered a 0.104 blood-alcohol content, in excess of Ohio’s 0.08 legal intoxication limit, had tubing to a pen inside of which was a white substance, a report stated.

Attempted theft: Someone in the 4000 block of Hudson Drive entered a vehicle and displaced various items.

Theft: Ariana H. Boyce of Fairview Avenue, Canfield, and Lexi C.M. Sudac of Wilda Avenue, Boardman, faced theft charges. The two 18-year-old women were accused of taking $93 worth of merchandise that included an iPhone cord from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.

Theft: A Euclid Boulevard woman noticed $220, a driver’s license, a Social Security card and a wallet missing from her car.

Criminal mischief: A Garver Drive woman saw that a glass bottle had struck her vehicle’s roof, leaving glass shards in the vicinity.

Theft: A backpack was among property stolen from a vehicle in the 100 block of Jennette Drive.

Theft: A township woman told police her $650 iPhone had been removed from a shopping cart while she was in a Doral Drive big-box store.

Criminal mischief: A Doncaster Drive woman reported eggs had been tossed at her brick mailbox and one of her vehicles.

Menacing/criminal mischief: A South Schenley Avenue woman said she’s received threatening calls. Also, the accuser’s boyfriend noticed someone had loosened five lug nuts to a tire on his car.

Harassment: A Fairfield Avenue man said his former girlfriend has made more than 20 unwanted calls and at one point pounded on his door while demanding her property from his home.

May 12 Theft: Timothy M. Williams, 47, was charged after police alleged Williams, of Cornell Avenue, Youngstown, had stolen $88 worth of strip steaks from Walmart.

Theft: A man reportedly stole about $42 worth of bread and beer from Giant Eagle, 476 Boardman-Canfield Road.

Identity theft: A Rosewood Drive man learned that a Verizon Wireless account with $206 in charges had been established in his name but without authorization.

Theft: A man reportedly took two 24-packs of beer from Giant Eagle, 476 BoardmanCanfield Road.

Criminal mischief: Two men in the 4400 block of Market Street discovered their vehicles had been entered and rummaged through.

Theft: A Youngstown woman left a Doral Drive big-box store and saw that two $150 wheel caps had been stolen off her vehicle.

Menacing: A Hitchcock Road woman alleged her roommate had snatched a small TV from her hand and threatened to destroy it during an argument, which made the accuser feel threatened.

Burglary: Someone broke into Uhrain Greenhouses, 704 Maple Ave., likely through a rear door before taking an undisclosed sum of money and number of checks.

May 13 Arrest: Officers in the 100 block of Boardman-Canfield Road picked up James L. Lohmier, 35, of Glenwood Avenue, Boardman. He was wanted on a felony warrant from Cuyahoga Falls charging drug abuse (methamphetamine).

Aggravated menacing: Two employees with a Doral Drive big-box store told police that as a man wearing a red baseball cap as well as a gray shirt and pair of shorts was leaving, he made a threat implying he would return to shoot up the store.

Arrest: After pulling her over near Shields Road, officers took into custody Jayla J.M. Gilmore, who listed addresses on Compass West Drive in Austintown and Aravesta Avenue in Boardman. Gilmore, 23, was accused of failing to appear in Austintown Area Court on a traffic charge.

Child endangering: Witnesses reported seeing two children around age 2 or 3 playing unattended in the street on Aravesta Avenue before a relative was informed.

Both youngsters were unharmed.

Drug paraphernalia: Police received a complaint about an erratic driver near Market Street before charging Stephanie L. Gonda, 26, with possessing drug paraphernalia. Gonda, of Stratmore Avenue, Youngstown, had in her purse a suspected crack-cocaine pipe with burn marks, a report showed.

Theft: Amanda M. Krotky, 22, of Poland Avenue, Struthers, was charged with intentionally failing to self-scan 32 items valued at $58 while in Walmart.

Theft: A 17-year-old Poland girl reported her $500 iPhone stolen while she was at a Boardman-Poland Road big-box store.

May 14 Arrest: Officers answered a call pertaining to possible gunfire in the100 block of Shields Road, then charged Jacob A. Adolphson of Shields, Boardman, with inducing panic and using a weapon while intoxicated, both misdemeanors. An intoxicated Adolphson, 26, admitted having fired a gun in the air before a loaded firearm was found in a nearby cemetery,

Mooney golf team hosts fundraising scramble

Cardinal Mooney High School has received a $500 grant from USA Football to assist with the Cardinals football team. Mooney has used the grant to purchase blocking pads and practice jerseys. USA Football is the national governing body for amateur American football and is a member of the U.S. Olympic Committee. An independent, non-profit organization, USA Football is headquartered in Indianapolis, Ind. On June 9, there will be a Cardinal Mooney golf team fundraiser scramble at the Mill Creek Golf Course. Check-in starts at 12 p.m. for a 1 p.m. shot-gun start. The cost to participate is $75 per person or $300 per team. The cost includes lunch and dinner. Hole sponsorships are available for $50 per hole and 50/50 and raffle baskets will be available.

Three Cardinal Mooney student athletes have signed Letters of Intent to continue their athletic pursuits at the collegiate level. Jake Fonderlin a 3-year letterman and catcher for the Mooney baseball team will play collegiate ball for Notre Dame College in Euclid. Fonderlin has received the Dean’s Scholarship and will study exercise science in college. Stefan Moser will play football for Ohio Northern University. He is majoring in pharmaceutical business and has earned more than $27,000 per year in grants and scholarships. Tyler Petrey has signed on to wrestle in the 285 pound class with Ashland University. In addition to wrestling for Austintown Fitch during high school, he was a two-year letterman playing offensive and defensive line for the Mooney football team as well as being a member of the school’s track team. His overall wrestling record was 73-30, a sectional champion and two-time district placer. He plans to study exercise science. Pictured are, from left, Moser, Petrey and Fonderlin.

and Rodriguez was sixth in a season best time of 23.76. In the 110 hurdles, sophomore Brian Yauger was second in a career best time of 16.08. The 4x800 relay team of Senior Jason Fabian and freshmen Frank Bero, Jonah Bacho and Cristian Ortiz placed second. The 4x200 relay of Cammack, Jama, Rodriguez and Suarez were third in a season best time of 1:31.87.

Sophomore Mitchel Dunham was third and Bero fifth in the 1600. The 4x100 relay team of

junior Nick Torres, sophomores Alan Cuevas and Rashie Garner and freshman Brennan Stratton placed seventh. Jama was third and Suarez fifth in the 400 in season best times of 52.85 and 53.18, respectively. Yauger was sixth in the 300 hurdles and Payton Torres and Dunham placed second and third in the 800. Freshman Caydin Newberry and sophomore River Flatley were fourth and fifth overall in the 3200.

Fauceglia has been a regular feature writer and photographer for “American Angler,” “Fly Fisherman,” “Field and Stream,” “Outdoor Life” and more. The chapter members were entertained with a demonstration and explanation of the art of fly fishing and to see a multitude of colorful fishing flies that he hand crafted.

Anthony Saadey and Zoe Lamberson, both of Columbus, exchanged marriage vows Sept. 9, 2017, at Christman Hall in Stambaugh Auditorium. The ceremony was officiated by Judge David Trimmer. A reception followed at the auditorium.

The parents of the bride are Dr. Rodney Lamberson and Linda Cooper of Canfield. The groom is a son of Donna Saadey of Boardman and Anthony Saadey of Canfield.

The newlyweds are planning a trip to Italy in May. The bride wore a sleeveless, natural satin dress with a V-neckline and double criss-cross beaded straps. The ensemble was completed by a satin belt with beaded applique and a fit and flare skirt detailed with Swarovski crystal buttons.

Vita Lamberson, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. The bridesmaids, wearing black dresses, were Eva Lamberson, sister of the bride; Addie Laviolette; Jocelyn Lowe; Lindsey Ramdin; and Caitlin Wilkerson.
