Meet Howard, a very loving cat. He is about 2.5 years old and absolutely adores everyone he sees. He was a stray with Entropion in both eyes so it must have been hard for him on the streets. He since has had surgery and is doing fine. Even though he is a favorite at West Side Cats, Howard would really be happy in a home with someone else to love him. He does great with children and other cats, but no one knows how he would do with a dog, but he may like it. Howard is laid back and peaceful. He came in to the shelter on March 18, so he is past ready to be adopted.

Here is Snickers with his ball at Pawz 2 Adopt in Austintown, OH. Snickers started out at the Trumbull County Pound and now has been at Pawz for about a year. Snickers is such a wonderful dog! I just LOVE him as does everyone else there! We really hope that Snickers gets a home of his own very soon! You can either PM on Pawz 2 Adopt on their Facebook page or call 330-779-1862. Pawstown in Boardman Park hosted its first Star Paws Mutt Mingle on May 4. May the Fourth be w ith you was the inspiration for this first ever Star Paws Mutt Mingle. Families could bring their dogs to the park for free to run around, participate in a dog costume contest and learn about becoming a member of Pawstown in Boardman Park. Boardman Park partnered with Animal Charity to make the Star Wars themed event a fun time for the dogs and their owners. Animal Charity provided information about pet adoptions and answered any other questions the guests may have had. The Mutt Mingle had plenty of vendors at the event selling clothing and food for the dogs. There was a 50-50 raffle where the proceeds benefited the Animal Charity and Pawstown of Boardman Park. Although the Mutt Mingle was free and open to the public, a dog park membership is needed if someone wishes to bring their dog to the park any other time. The event gave information to those who may have been interested in becoming a member after attending the event.

The Canfield Village Middle School’s fifth- and sixth-grade choirs presented their annual Spring Concert at the Canfield High School on May 12. The choirs, including the Cardinal Chorale, were under the direction of Stephanie Summers and were accompanied on piano by Courtney Larson, on bass by Nathan Gelfand and on drums by Bryan Teeters. Summers welcomed the large audience of family and friends to the concert. “Welcome to our fifth- and sixth-grade Spring Concert. We will start with the Cardinal Chorale, which is made up of both seventh- and eighth-graders. I am going to turn it over to the student narrators as they welcome you and introduce each of the choirs,” Summers said. The Cardinal Chorale opened the show with “Ye Shall Have a

Song” by Sally K. Albrecht and then performed “A Song Sung Once” by Amy F. Bernon. The choir closed their portion of the concert with “Didn’t My Lord Deliver Daniel,” a traditional spiritual arranged by Roger Emerson. The fifth-grade choir then took the stage to perform “That’s Amore” by Jack Brooks and Harry Warren, arranged by Kirby Shaw. They then sang “Teach the Wind Your Song” by Amy Feldman Bernon and moved into a favorite of the students, “Bus Stop” by Phyllis Wolfe-White. The fifth-graders closed their performance with “Fight Song” by Rachel Platten and Dave Bassett, arranged by Roger Emerson. The song included solos by students Natalee Balestra, Brianna Fishel and Ryan Schneider. Fifth-grade narrators included Domenic Nacarato, Karis Herrmann, Madison Murphy, Ty Stricko and Mallory Hughes. With the conclusion of the

fifth-grade performance, the sixth-grade choir began their portion of the concert with “The Addams Family” by Vic Mizzy and arranged by Mark Brymer. The choir then sang “Best Day of My Life” by Barnett Shelley, Sanchez, Rublin, Goodman and Acetta, arranged by Andy Beck. For their final song, the sixthgraders sang “All You Need is Love” by Lennon and McCartney, arranged by Alan Billingsley.

Sixth-grade narrators included Jenna Vrabel, Isabella Bellino, Tobias Smith and Derek Davidson. “Thank you for coming to our show tonight. We hope you enjoyed it. I have very much enjoyed working with these students this year. I pushed them hard and they rose to the occasion. I have really enjoyed teaching them. Thanks again for coming and have a great summer,” Summers said.

T he C or ner sbu r g Da i r y Queen hosted a Sip and Paint event for Mother’s Day on May 7. Dairy Queen gave children the opportunity to decorate an ice cream cake for their mother for Mother’s Day. The Cornersburg Dairy Queen has been putting on this event for about 10 years and does it twice a year, once for Mother’s Day and once Father’s Day. Ray Smith, the owner of the Cornersburg Dairy Queen, said there is normally a good turnout with between 50-70 people showing up. When Dairy Queen started this event, people had to sign up to participate. Now there is the option to sign up prior to the event or walk in, which is what most people chose to do. The guests were able to pick out which size cake they wanted and if they wanted a regular Dairy Queen cake or a Blizzard cake. “Kids really love interactive things, that’s why they’re decorating cakes,” said Smith. Dairy Queen employees help each child decorate their cake, whether it be with airbrushing colors onto the cake or writing

a special message on top. The employees are always happy to help and really enjoy working with the children, it’s something they have fun with. “We just try to make their day,” said Smith. T he C or ner sbu r g Da i r y Queen puts on several events

t hroughout t he year. They host an Easter event, Miracle Treat Day, customer appreciation day, pumpkin hunts and a Christmas event. The events are to bring children and their families in to enjoy interactive activities and make their own treats.
