New Ace Hardware opens in Boardman By JESSICA HARKER jharker@vindy.com

The new Ace Hardware hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony in Boardman on June 7. Owners David and Cindy Coie, along with their two golden retrievers Maggie and Kensington, cut the ribbon officially opening the store to the public. “We are just so grateful for the support we have already received,” David said. “Since our

soft open we have had a ton of support from the community.” This is the third Ace Hardware the Coies own, since David started working for the company in 1976. “I started working at the store for the previous owner, and then purchased the store from him,” David said. He said that working at Ace Hardware was only his second job, and that he loved it so much he stuck with it.

“I have a passion for the work, for the company, and for the people,” David said. During the ribbon cutting ceremony, David paused the event to go assist a customer who needed help. Handing the leash of one of his dogs to Cindy, and the large scissors to one of his employees, he walked away from the group stating, “The customer always comes first.” “That has been the motto since I started at the store before I was

the owner, and it remains that,” David said. Throughout the first weekend open the store hosted a number of give-a-ways. The store also added 10 new jobs to the area, with the hopes of hiring more in the near future. “We are still looking for a few full time and part time employees,” David said. The store is located at 451 Boardman-Canfield Road in Boardman.

New Eyemart store hosts grand opening event By JESSICA HARKER jharker@vindy.com

A new Eyemart Express store, located at 1301 Boardman Poland Road, hosted a grand opening event on May 4. Store ma nager Luc y Enrich said that the store offered vouchers for a free pair of children’s glasses for the first 25 families to attend the event. “Our mission, and Eyemart’s mission is to make sure that no matter what your budget is there is something there for everyone,” Enrich said. “People are always going to need to see.” During the event, community members had access to a number of discounted frames and bundles on new glasses. The store also offered giveaways and prizes to community members in attendance. Enrich said that the new store is unique because they have an in home lab, which allows them

to offer community members their glasses in less time. “There aren’t too many places out there who have their own lab,” Enrich said. “We carry stock lenses and stuff here and if it is an absolute emergency we make sure they get a pair of glasses.” Enrich said that while most glasses suppliers can take a week to two weeks to provide them, Eyemart can stream line that process to get the community glasses in an hour. “It gets them in and out of here,” Enrich said. “We can usually whip something up in an hour or a day. For the most part 90 percent of glasses will be done today.” Along with the quick service, Enrich said that Eyemart’s focus is to provide every family in need with glasses within their price range. The store offers value packages that can be helpful to families

in need, according to Enrich. “It helps the community, you got to figure there are so many families in need,” Enrich said. The store brought eight new jobs to the community, both on the sales floor and in the lab. Eyemart is also connected with Clear Choice Eye Care right next door. Though the companies are run separately, Enrich said that they work together to ensure customers who come in to get an eye exam can leave quickly with a new set of lenses. “We want everyone to be able to see,” Enrich said. “It doesn’t Neighbors | Jessica Harker matter, people are always going The new Eyemart Express on Boardman Poland Road has it’s own fully functional to need glasses.” lab located in the back of the store, a unique feature for eye glass providers. Eyemart has about 200 stores nationally in 36 states, according to Enrich. The store offers both walk in services, or community members can make an appointment with the Clear Choice Eye Care.

Memorial Mile races takes place for 29th year It was great running weather for the 29th annual Memorial Mile, presented by Walgreens, on Memorial Day just before the 114th Kiwanis parade in Boardman. Once again this year, the race was the USATF Lake Erie Association One Mile Road Championship. Coming off of a great track season, recently graduated Youngstown State University runner Ryan Sullivan returned to the winner’s role this year. The future of women’s run-

ning was evident in this race as Raegan Burkey barely edged out Gianna Stanich for the win this year. One hundred and fifty-nine runners turned out for the event this year. The race was sponsored by Walgreens, the DeBartolo Corporation, Novak and Davis Insurance, Auto Owners Insurance, 910 Rapid Care, Coca Cola, Armstrong Cable, Home Savings Bank, McDonalds, CTW Development, Brian and Shanna Laraway, Tune Weavers and N.E.O.
