Book lovers united at the Austintown library on June 13 to meet New York Times BestSelling author Sara Shepard. Shepard is well-known for writing the “Pretty Little Liars”

series, which was later turned into a television show. There are 18 total “Pretty Little Liars” books and Shepard began writing them in 2005. She has always loved writing and knew she was good at writing, but never expected it to be a career. Shepard was an English

major and worked with magazines. Soon Shepard became a ghostwriter for a group that put together young adult fiction books. Working as a ghost writer she learned how to write a story from start to finish, dialogue, how to be edited and work on a deadline.

“Even in my spare time I wrote short stories, I love writing stories,” said Shepard. The audience listened to Shepard speak about her life and how she became a successful writer. Before Shepard began her story, she asked three trivia questions and whoever got them right

Many questions during the Q&A session were a mix about the show and the books. “I wish I was still writing ‘Pretty Little Liars’ books. I put so much of myself into the book series,” said Shepard. The guests who attended the event could make their own drinks from the coffee bar provided. After Shepard finished speaking there were different crafts and activities to participate in. As Shepard finished signing books the guests brought, she joined in on the activities as the program came to an end. “Everything has been amazing. I wouldn’t have dreamed of any of this,” said Shepard. Shepard’s next book being released in November is the second “The Amateurs” book called “Follow Me.” When the second book is released, there will be a paperback version of the first “The Amateurs” book being released featuring a special short story about Mona from “Pretty Little Liars.”

The Boardman High School girls basketball team and coaches had the chance to see the finished renovated locker room on June 1.

Teammates come together to renovate locker room By ALEXIS BARTOLOMUCCI abartolomucci@vindy.com

What started out as a need for a few changes turned into an entire renovation for the Boardman High School girls’ locker room. Thanks to various donors and sponsors who made the renovation possible, the new locker room will serve the girls volleyball team and the varsity girls basketball team. The locker room was made as a tribute to Christine Moschella-Terlesky. “It’s a nice place where they can feel comfortable and relax. They can use this as a study room, prepare for basketball games,” said assistant varsity coach Justin Coffin. Coffin, other coaches and the team thought it was a good idea to try and spruce up their own locker room after traveling to different schools and seeing the other girls’ locker rooms. The whole project took only a month to complete. It began on May 2 and was finished on June 1. “It’s absolutely amazing, it’s transformed completely,” said upcoming senior player Annaliisa Cordova. “I remember coming in here my freshman year and I thought it was super

cool because we had our own locker room. Then as I started I saw the other locker rooms and I thought ours wasn’t as great as I thought it was. Now I come in here and it’s the best locker room, technically the best room, in the school.” The basketba ll team volunteered a lot of their time, along with the coaching staff and some members of National Honor Society. Everyone worked hard to complete the project and for it to turn out as well as it could. Players mentioned that the room was created for them and all they ask in return is for the team to play as hard as they can, and now they have even more motivation to do so. “I think it’s really cool having all of us come together and making this happen for a good cause. It’s close to my heart,” said Jenna Vivo, upcoming senior player and niece of Terlesky. Ever yone involved in the project was extremely happy with the turnout and how everything came together. The teams and coaching staff are looking forward to the upcoming school year and being able to utilize the new and improved locker room.
