ABWA to meet Sept. 20 The Network Council of the American Business Women’s Association will sponsor its annual ABW Day on Sept. 20 at A La Cart Catering in Canfield beginning at noon. A luncheon will be served for $20 consisting of swiss chicken, roast pork, stuffed shells, sandtrap potatoes, California vegetable medley and cherries in the snow for dessert, along with beverages and rolls and butter. Austintown Township Park hosted National Night out on Aug. 4. Police officers, firefighters, town officials and more came out to celebrate this special event with their community. In addition to meeting people who work for the community, there were games, puzzles, food vendors, face painting and more to be found all around the park — compliments of Austintown’s Block Watch. Betsy Gilkes brought her son, Tyrone, to see the SWAT truck, his personal favorite. “I think it’s all so cool,” Betsy Gilkes said. “It’s really nice they have all of this going on.” Sa ma nt ha Homa n c a me with her family to the park, not knowing this was going on, but happy that she found it. “We came to the splash pad and I had no idea this was happening, but it was a win-win,” Homan said.

Shepas to run for trustee On Aug. 14, Bruce Shepas had a fundraiser for his candidacy for Austintown Township Trustee at Stacey Pavilion in Austintown Township Park. Shepas, his wife and his two daughters participate in many community activities that his business, Austintown Bounce, supports or donates to. Shepas is a big proponent of the parks, serving both past and present on the Austintown Girls Softball League for five years. He and his wife bring their 3-year-old daughter to play on the playground and splash pad often. In addition, they sponsor Austintown Junior Soccer League, Austintown Girls Softball League, Austintown Community Baseball and several high school sports. “You have to support your community, schools and local organizations,” Shepas said. “I’m proud to call Austintown home and their is no other place I would want to raise my family.” Shepas said he hopes to be elected Township Trustee and focus on road repair and park improvements. Shepas has a background in law enforcement and co-owns Austintown Bounce, which has also provided him with management skills to excell in business experience, as well as growth in integrity, character

Welcome back picnic to be Sept. 14 The Boardman Poland Junior Women’s League will have its annual welcome back picnic on Sept. 14 at the Georgeanna Parker Center in Boardman Park at 6 p.m. and general meeting at 7 p.m. All members are asked to bring a covered dish to enjoy for the evening. The Summer Discovery Program for the Public Libraries of Youngstown and Mahoning County saved teens from summer boredom with the variety of numerous fun activities for the summer of 2015.
