Shepherd of the Valley of Boardman offered a Paint and Sip on Aug. 26. Residents sipped wine coolers – many f lavors were available – and painted on a provided canvases from a still-life picture of their choice. Kim Osborn, Shepherd of the Valley employee, said she likes bringing in pop-culture events like Paint and Sip to Shepherd. “I like letting them to be able to do something that’s popular nowadays,” Osborn said. Sarah Chill, another Shepherd employee, said she has fun seeing what residents final products are at the end of the hour-long event. “My favorite part is watching them make their own interpretations and inspirations from what we give them,” Chill said. Residents socialized with one another while creating their masterpieces. Employees walked around from table to table helping residents with their artwork and filling up their glasses. Edith Kurtz and Lucille Van Allen raved about Paint and Sip. “I’m really enjoying myself,” Kurtz said. Van Allen agreed. “I think it’s wonderful,” she said.

This summer, the Lady Spartans 10U softball team captured the championship of the Pony National Softball Tournament at the Fields of Dreams in Boardman. Boardman went through the tournament undefeated, knocking off Poland twice along the way. In the first win over Poland, a 6-3 victory, Natalie Davis kept the Poland bats to four hits over five innings, striking out seven. Gia Triveri, Nadia Rawhneh and Sarah Kinderdine all contributed with defensive play. Leading the offense was Cassidy Bryan with two hits and 3 RBIs. Ayva Fedor also had a hit, an RBI and a scored run. The Lady Spartans also got a run scored by Josie Porter. The Lady Spartans faced Poland again in the championship game, knocking them off 4-0 to take the tournament title. Davis scattered five hits over six innings, while striking out seven Bulldogs. Fedor, Cami Goske and Davis also had hits for the Spartans.

Boys cross country places fourth On Sept. 12, the Boardman High School boys cross country team traveled to Dover City Park to run in the Dover Invitational. The boys came in fourth with 97 points. Senior Ethan Schwendeman took sixth place overall out of 118 runners in a time of 18:13. The Spartans were without two of the usual top five runners for the meet, but were able

to battle a tough course to place fourth. “It was challenging in many areas of the course. Couple that with losing two guys and having another get injured while running and it was a tough day to say the least,” said Boardman head coach John Phillips. The Spartans scorers, along with Schwendeman, were junior Chris Butler in seventh place at

18:25, junior Nathaniel Ams in 15th at 19:12, sophomore Mark Moradian at 20:00 in 31st place, and junior Matt Maroni in 38th at 20:21. Setting a new personal best at Dover was sophomore Carl Jacobson at 22:05. This week’s BW-3 Runner of the Week was freshman Andrew Beichner for his continued improvement and efforts the past three weeks.
