Junior Women’s League to Boardman Council PTA meet Nov. 2 Meet the Candidates Night The next meeting of the Board-

On Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. in the Boardman High School cafeteria, the Boardman Council PTA will be hosting a Meet the Candidates Night event for the community. This will be an opportunity to ask questions of the candidates for the school board and trustee positions, as well as those speaking on behalf of the issues and levies on the November ballot. Questions will be from the Boardman PTA units, government classes and also taken from the public, to whom this event is open.

Knights of Columbus to host spaghetti dinner The Knights of Columbus Fr. Venglaric Council 11915 at St. Charles in Boardman will be hosting a spaghetti dinner on Oct. 25 between the hours of 11:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. in the church hall. The event, which will include a basket raffle, will feature spaghetti and meatballs at a cost of $8 for adults, $5 for children between the ages of 6-12 years-old and children under 6 years of age will eat for free. The dinner will also include a salad, bread and butter, drink and cake. Carry out orders will be available beginning at 10 a.m.

Also, the Knights’ spaghetti sauce and meatballs will be available for separate purchase beginning at 10 a.m. the

Pampered Chef will come for the evening meeting as a club fundraiser and members can brings guests for their demonstration. The Boardman Poland Junior Women’s League is open to all women that are 18 or older, residing in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties, who are interested in friendship, fun and community involvement. Their mission is to provide a creative outlet for women interested in providing community service in areas of arts, conservation, education, home life, international affairs and public affairs. Embracing the light and hope during the holidays Normally a time of joy and celebration, the holidays often have a much different effect on those who have experienced the death of a loved one.

For some, they can result in a renewed sense of personal grief, accompanied by feelings of sadness, loss, loneliness and emptiness.

“It’s a perfectly understandable reaction,” said Sister Pat Fesler, H.M., Bereavement Coordinator at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes. “The holidays are such a special time and there is a great deal of emotion and activity associated

with them; yet if a loved one has died, the holidays are not the same.

They can be difficult and painful yet joyous.”

Gamblers Anonymous meetings Gamblers Anonymous, a 12Step fellowship of compulsive gamblers who want to recover from their gambling addictions, will meet twice this week in the Youngstown-Warren area.

A Gamblers Anonymous meeting takes place every Friday at Westminster Church, located at 119 Stadium Drive in Boardman, and another takes place every Sunday at Christ Church Presbyterian, located at 3425 Hopkins Road in Cornersburg.

Both meetings begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. and last about one and a half hours.

Those who believe gambling has affected any part of their lives are urged to attend.

Blood drive to be Oct. 26 There will be a blood drive by the Mahoning Chapter of the American Red Cross to proudly serve the needs of St. Elizabeth Hospital. For appointments call 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-7332767).

This event is for adults. The blood drive will take place at the Boardman library on Oct. 26 from 1:30-6:30 p.m.

Nightclub two step dance class Enjoy learning this easy slower tempo dance. No partner? No problem! It is a paired dance, but everyone learns together. Beginners are welcome and encouraged. The 39th Oktoberfestival took place at Maag Theatre in Boardman Park on Oct. 4. The festival had two contests, as well as dance performances by Judy Conti Dance Studio and Chaney High School. The contests included a Stars at the Oktoberfestival singing contest and the Hi-Ya(r) shouting challenge.

Hi-Ya(r) program is teaching proper breathing, improving posture, focus, balance, relaxation and strength for better health. Library reopens with continuing renovations The Boardman library reopened for public use at 9 a.m. on Wednesday as work at the front of the building is complete, but Phase II of the renovation project continues.

Patrons entering the library will notice many changes, but should be advised that the renovation is not complete and work will be underway within the building once reopened.

Phase II of the renovation project is continuing with items which include new furnishings, shelving and display units, children’s area Early Literacy play elements, outdoor areas, new seating and iPads for the teen area.

The library closed temporarily on Sept. 28 and involved work that could not be done if the library was open, such as the front entrance and sidewalks, replac-

ing bathrooms, floor work and more on the front end of the building.

The library’s goal throughout this project has been to keep the branch open for the public as much as possible, even while work is being done within the building.

The branch is now able to reopen for public service and the renovation project continues.

Mr., Mrs. Schisler are honored at surprise party A surprise party June 27 with family and friends honored Mr. and Mrs. Wade Schisler of Austintown for their 65th wedding anniversary.

The event took place at Millstone Retreat in Columbiana. Hosting were the couple’s sons and daughters-in-law, Pete and Suzanne Schisler of Greenford, and Richard and Dinah Schisler of Woodstock, Ill. The former Vivian Knauf and Mr. Schisler exchanged marriage vows June 18, 1950, in West Austintown Methodist Church.

Their other children and their spouses are Randy and Barb Schisler of Youngstown and Rita and Jim McClung of Canfield.

The family also includes nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Schisler is a homemaker.

Mr. Schisler worked for 45 years at the Mahoning Farm Bureau in Canfield, where he was a branch manager, and 20

years at Lane Funeral Home in Austintown. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. They were members of Wickliffe Christian Church until it closed.
