CPD partners with Canfield Schools By ABBY SLANKER neighbors@vindy.com

The Canfield Police Department has once again partnered with Canfield Local School District to present a collaborative safety initiative which will provide Child Safety Fingerprint ID Kits to all kindergarten students and new elementary students to the district. School Resource Officer Steve Garstka completed the fingerprint record section of the kit at C.H. Campbell Elementary School on Sept. 15, and at Hilltop Elementary School on Sept. 26. The Police Department purchased Child Safety Fingerprint ID Kits which were provided to the students with parental/

guardian permission. The kits also provide space for parents to fill in personal demographic information, dental chart, medical conditions, identify features and an emergency directory. “This is the fourth year the Canfield Police Department has partnered with Canfield Local School District to provide the Child Safety Fingerprint ID Kits. It is important for us to partner with the schools and help keep kids safe,” Officer Garstka said. Students were given a letter addressed to their parents from Chief of Police Charles Colucci explaining the process. The letter also served as a permission slip and had to be signed and returned to the school for the student to be able to participate.

The Canfield High School Art Department and art students have partnered once again with the Canfield library to host an art show in October to showcase the students’ work. The show opened on Oct. 19, with a opening night reception at the library. The artwork was on display during library hours from Oct. 19-22. Approximately 100 pieces of art, in a variety of mediums, were on display and were pulled from several students who showed their work at the Canfield High School Art Show in the spring. The show was organized by Kate Antal and Kevin Hoopes, CHS art teachers, in conjunc-

tion with Linda Kucalaba, Canfield library supervisor. “The art students do such a wonderful job. They are so talented and we are very fortunate here at the library that they are willing to share a sampling of their art with us and the community. This is a great opportunity for the community to come view the incredible talents of the high school art students,” Kucalaba said. According to Kucalaba, a second art show is scheduled for February. “We have scheduled a second art show for February. This is a great partnership and it enables us to showcase the students’ art. We also applaud the Neighbors | Abby Slanker art teachers who bring out the Several pieces of Canfield High School art students’ work were on display at talent in their students,” Kucal- the Canfield library through a partnership with the school and the library on aba said.
