ABWA to meet Nov. 10 The Mill Creek Chapter of The American Business Women’s Association will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 10 at Johnny’s Restaurant, located at 7807 Market St. in Boardman. The Mill Creek Chapter will be celebrating its 54th Anniversary with the theme “Splash of Italian.” Anthony Horvath of Struthers will entertain with songs of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and other classics. The menu will include Italian roasted chicken, beef tips and noodles, pasta and meatballs, Italian roasted potatoes, Italian mixed vegetables, tossed salad, fresh baked bread, hot peppers and oil, and coffee, tea or soda. The 39th Oktoberfestival sees singers and shouters The 39th Oktoberfestival took place at Maag Theatre in Boardman Park on Oct. 4. The festival had two contests, as well as dance performances by Judy Conti Dance Studio and Chaney High School. The contests included a Stars at the Oktoberfestival singing contest and the Hi-Ya(r) shouting challenge. Winners of the Stars at Oktober Festival singing contest were Jordan M. Vigorito from Girard in the 18-30 year-old category, Jon Price of Salem in the 31 and older category, and Grace Barrett and Renee Angelilli of Canfield in the 13-17 year-old category. Winners of the Hi-Ya(r) shouting challenge by Master Park Martial Arts International and World Sports, Martial Arts and Expo were Guy Tyler of Columbiana in the junior division, Corey
Hughes of Salem in the adult division and Richard Adamson of Monroeville, Pa., in the senior division. The Hi-Ya(r) shouting challenge is not just a shouting or yelling competition. Hi-Ya(r) program is teaching proper breathing, improving posture, focus, balance, relaxation and strength for better health. The program involves teaching how to breathe with the diaphragm, abdomen, lungs and whole body, as well as your mind and beyond. Jim Loboy from WYTV-33 was the special DJ and guest judge for the event. The music and sound system was provided by Shooting Star Mobile DJ. Debbie Fuller of the PTA presents the new pavilion before the ribbon cutting ceremony. The Austintown Board of Education brought their meeting outdoors on Oct. 21 to introduce their latest project to staff and the community. The new AMS PTA Pavilion at the district’s middle school housed the meeting and was kicked off with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Funding from the PTA put the project in motion, but the help did not stop there. A team of faculty and community members volunteered their time to construct this learning area for the students of AMS. The administration and faculty also hope to utilize the pavilion for future events.

Andrea Paventi has lived in Austintown the majority of her life and has strong family ties. Her ancestors, the Russell family, date back to the 1800’s. Many of them still reside in Austintown personally, or have at least left their legacies behind. Not only does Paventi have a great history with Austintown, but she also has a current invested interest, as well — a 6-year-old son, Dillon, in first grade at Austintown Elementary School. As director of Treatment Alternatives to Safer Communities — a private, non-profit sector of a division of Meridian Community Care — for 19 years, Paventi has a deep understanding of budgets and grants as they are part of her work responsibilities. After a wedding trip to the Shenandoah Valley, the couple reside in Pittsburgh. The bride wore an ivory tulle trumpet-styled wedding gown with an illusion neckline. She earned a master’s degree in environmental science from the University of Cincinnati. She is employed as an environmental consultant for Trinity Consultants in
Wexford, Pa. The groom, the son of Patricia Maddock of Cincinnati and the late Allen Maddock, earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and geography at Ohio State University. He is employed as a geographic information systems analyst for Cabot Oil & Gas-Houston in Pittsburgh.

Mr., Mrs. Kapics observe 50th anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Ron Kapics of Youngstown were honored at a dinner party Aug. 6 at the Iron Bridge restaurant, Mercer, Pa., on the occasion of their golden wedding anniversary. Their children gave them a vacation at Belhurst Castle in Geneva, N.Y. The former Jane Hvisdak and Mr. Kapics exchanged marriage vows Sept. 11, 1965, at Holy Rosary Church in Lowellville. Their children and their spouses are Jeffrey and Stephanie Kapics of Austintown, Thomas and Sheree Kapics of Las Vegas, and Michael and Sheila Kapics of Poland. The family circle also includes six grandchildren. Mrs. Kapics is a deputy clerk at Mahoning County Probate Court. Her husband retired in 2013. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. The couple are members of St. Christine Church.
The Jenkinses mark anniversary on trip to Hawaii On a family vacation in July to Maui, Hawaii, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Jenkins of Franklin, Pa., marked their 45th wedding anniversary. Their daughter and her husband, Wendy and Jaison Fisher of Boardman hosted an anniversary dinner at the Hula Grill, Whalers Village on Ka’anapali Beach. Their grandchildren, Alexandria and Krystopher Baklarz of Boardman also attended. The former Jane Nasky and Mr. Jenkins were married July 18, 1970, in Holy Redeemer Church in Warren, Pa. Mrs. Jenkins recently retired after 35 years of service in Valley Grove School District. Mr. Jenkins is retired from the U.S. Postal Service, where he was a letter carrier and union steward. He is secretary of the Pennsylvania State Association of Letter Carriers. The couple are members of Grace Lutheran Church in Franklin.
Muresans’ 50th celebrated at family dinner The children of Mr. and Mrs. Aurel Muresan of Canfield hosted a family dinner party Aug. 14 at Aqua Restaurant on the Sound, Corolla Outer Banks, N.C., in celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary. Hosting were Dr. Mark Muresan of Dublin, Ohio; Jeannine Mylott of Aurora, Ohio; Matthew Muresan of Somerville, Mass.; and Gregory Muresan of University Heights, Ohio. The family also includes 10 grandchildren. The former Beverly Bezak and Mr. Muresan were married Aug. 14, 1965, in St. Luke Church in Boardman. Mrs. Muresan retired in 2000 from the Boardman Local School District, where she was a special-education teacher. She is a member of Mignonette Garden Club and Catholic Collegiate. Her husband was an anatomy teacher with Austintown Local Schools, retiring in 1999.
The couple are members of St. Dominic Church in Youngstown; he is a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Katelyn Veltri, Troy Gessner to be married The engagement of Katelyn Veltri of Hilliard, Ohio, and Dr. Troy A. Gessner of Columbus, Ga., is being announced by their parents. The future bride is a daughter of Kathleen Veltri of Hilliard and Louis Veltri of Dublin, Ohio. Dr. Gessner is a son of Dr. and Mrs. Larry Gessner of Canfield. An open ceremony is planned for 2:30 p.m. Dec. 27 at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Columbus. Invitations will be extended for an evening reception at The Blackwell in Columbus. Miss Veltri holds a bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene from the Ohio State University College of Dentistry. She is a dental hygienist with Edwards Family Dental in Dublin. Her fiance graduated from Muskingum University and earned a doctor of dental surgery degree at OSU College of Dentistry. He is completing a 12-month advanced edu-
cation general dentistry residency with the U.S. Army in Fort Benning, Ga.

On Sept. 30 the Commons at Greenbriar hosted an appreciation function for participants in their fundraising Bed Race event and presented a check to representatives from the Alzheimer’s Association, Robert Seidler, account executive of Patriot Homecare and participant in the Bed Race,
said it was his first time running a bed race, but he had a blast doing it. “It was a great turn out,” Seidler said. “All the residents really enjoyed it.” Greg Davis, co-owner of Patriot HomeCare, said he enjoyed the fun competition and team building in such a good cause. Several people at the appreciation cookout talked about making this event an annual one, for it was only done twice since 2000.

The Maintenance Planner will have a minimum of 3-5 years experience in coordinating resources and labor requirements in a manufacturing environment. Maintenance Technicians require the minimum of a high school degree with a minimum of 2 years of experience as a Maintenance Technician or a Maintenance Mechanic in a manufacturing environment. Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach
The Department of Athletics at Westminster College invites applications for the NEW position of Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach. This is a full-time position which will provide direction for developing a new NCAA division III women’s lacrosse program. Westminster College is a coeducational, national liberal arts institution with historical ties to the Presbyterian Church (USA). The College enrolls approximately 1200 students and employs approximately 94 fulltime faculty. It is located in rural western Pennsylvania and is within easy driving distance of both Pittsburgh and Cleveland. Duties for the new head coach will include managing all aspects involved in starting a new Lacrosse program including coaching, recruiting and program administration. The inaugural season will begin in the 2016-2017 academic year. The program will operate within the athletic policies and mission of Westminster College, the President’s Athletic Conference (PAC), The Ohio River Women’s Lacrosse Conference (ORWLC) and NCAA Division III. Primary responsibilities will include: All aspects of coaching and administration of a Division III Lacrosse program Recruiting athletically and academically qualified student athletes Organizing, scheduling, and conducting practices and games Encouraging commitment to academic excellence Ensuring program compliance with all College, PAC, and NCAA rules and regulations Fundraising and outreach programs Additional duties as assigned A bachelor’s degree is required, with a master’s degree preferred. Preference will be given to applicants with previous college level coaching and recruiting experience.
