Three teachers at Glenwood Middle School are participating in the new pilot program that is bringing 21st century furniture into the classrooms. This new desk/chair combination is enhanced with wheels, a swivel base and a moving desk. These modern new desks increase the use of classroom space by allowing the teacher to utilize all corners of the room, not just the front. The wheels also enable students with an increase range of motion and the ability to move freely around the room without the weight and noise of a traditional desk. The mobile desk enhances tudent interaction and creates a social and active learning environment. The students say they like the change. They also enjoy the increased storage space located under the new desks. A federal grant covered the $30,000 price tag for the new furniture, as well as new TVs for every classroom at West Boulevard Elementary and Glenwood Middle School.

Haunting the library with Halloween lanterns By amanda tonoli atonoli@vindy.com

Teens had the opportunity to light up the spooky holiday with Halloween Lanterns at the Boardman library on Oct. 26. This was the first holidaythemed event since the Boardman library’s reopening after major renovations. Librarian Ally Graf led the class, giving participants the

opportunity to make two lanterns, choosing between three options. Mason jars lined the tables, each w it h dif ferent design choices provided — a purple spray-painted option with a stencil to trace onto it, a googley-eyed and gauze ghost creation and a candy corn design made from balloons. Students were able to make their own designs as well. Aubrey Neuhaus said she

was excited to get started on her Halloween creation. “I’ve never really done a craft like this before and I’m excited to see how to do it,” Neuhaus said. Ti mot hy Ca se sa id he thought the overall idea was pretty cool. “I’m a bit of a n a r t ist so I’m excited to see what I can make,” Case said. Graf said she was enthusiastic about this new holiday

craft. She got some design ideas off of Pinterest and noted that some were a little more difficult than they seemed. “When you come to library craft programs you learn a little something, too,” Graf said.
