Worlds Away is a fictitious drama filmed in Poland and SWPA. The story centers on Bill Parker – performed by Poland native William Scott Hill – a charming, charismatic young hustler who sets his sights on success. To achieve it he’s willing to do just about anything, which leads him to unknowing, troubled Karen, t he daughter of a wea lt hy businessman. A romance develops but all is not as it seems. Bill recruits his innocent computer wizard friend, Jewel – played by another Poland native, Erin Shannon Rudolph – to help him out along the way. Various events cause Bill’s world to spiral out of control. Hill has been attached to the project since it’s earliest

stages of production and also wrote elements of the plot. “We had many long days shooting this film, but none of those days ever felt like work,” Hill said. “You’re lucky when you get a chance to collaborate with people as passionate as you are.” Rudolph is an elite stylist at The Lotus Spa. Both Rudolph and Hill have shared a passion for acting since youth, and it is evident in their performances. H i l l’s long t i me f r iend s, Jeffrey Tyler Kosec and Jeff Philips also have parts in the film. The three friends graduated from Poland Seminary High School together in 2011. Local scenes from the film include the Backyard Bar and Grill, ow ned by the Booth

family of Poland. A pivotal plot twist occurs at Larry’s Drive Thru and Mini Mart, the store of local business owners Larry and Diane Ornelas. “We also shot interior scenes at the Springfield Grille and CA restaurant,” Hill said. “We were fortunate to have and would like to thank the people and businesses that graciously accommodated the production.” Poland local Jeanne Fortunato served as production coordinator on the film. “It has been a ver y challenging process,” Fortunato said. “I really believe viewers will be amazed at the talent of these young actors. “ No release date has been set.

‘Disney Live!’s’ Belle makes library appearance By NATALIE WRIGHT nscott@vindy.com

Area children and parents from throughout Mahoning County traveled to Poland on Oct. 29 to meet a live Disney character at the Disney Meet and Greet Storytime. According to Janet Loew, the Public Relations Director for the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County, every time the Disney Live! Three Classic Fairy Tales company comes to the Covelli Centre the libraries partner with them in an attempt to

bring a little magic to children at the libraries. “Every year that the Disney Live! company comes to the Covelli Centre, we try to get a Disney character to come to the library,” Loew said. “They really have been most wonderful in working with us to achieve that goal.” Loew went on to say that the character visits have an added benefit for the children they meet. “This event has a literary aspect, as well. It brings the books to life. It really does,” Loew said. Deborah Liptak, Develop-

mental Director for the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning Counties, said that the relationships the library maintains with companies such as these have offered great opportunities for all involved. “The library has a lovely relationship with the Covelli Centre and Disney, as well as the Ringling Bros. They are always so gracious to donate character appearances, as well as some promotion when possible,” Liptak said. Those that attended the Disney Meet and Greet Storytime were treated to a special read-

ing of the story of “Beauty and the Beast” by a representative for Disney Live! After the story, children lined up for greetings and photos from the guest of honor: Belle from “Beauty and the Beast.” For more information on Disney Live! Three Classic Fairy Tales, visit them online at www. disneylive.com/three-classicfairy-tales. Don Koenig, left, executive vice president and COO at Mercy Health Youngstown, and prostate cancer survivor Steve Burbrink join Phantom, the mascot of the Youngstown Phantoms Hockey team, in marking the start of Movember.

‘Movember’ mustaches promote prostate cancer awareness Man Up Mahoning Valley, Mercy Health Cancer Centers, Mercy Health Foundation Mahoning Valley and NEO Urology team up to drive age-appropriate prostate cancer screenings. One in seven American men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer at some point in their lives. More than 233,000 will be diagnosed this year, and 29,480 of them will die. Still, many men – including an unusually high percentage of men in the Mahoning Valley – don’t get age-appropriate prostate cancer screenings. As part of an ongoing effort to change that, Man Up Mahoning Valley, Mercy Health Cancer Centers, Mercy Health Foundation Mahoning Valley, NEO Urology, General Motors Lordstown, UAW Locals 1112 and 1714, Youngstown Phantoms Hockey and several community leaders are joining forces to generate awareness about prostate cancer and encourage men to get the age-appropriate screenings that could save their lives. Some of the participants gathered for a ceremonial Movember kickoff at Partners for Urology Health in Austintown. “It’s a fun way to get involved and raise awareness, and it doesn’t cost anything,” said Jonathon Fauvie, gift officer, Mercy Health Foundation Mahoning Valley. Movember takes place Nov. 1-30. Participants start the month clean shaven but grow and groom their mustaches the rest of the month. “The mustaches, especially on men who don’t usually have one, are a conversation starter,” Fauvie explained. “When somebody says something about it, that’s an opportunity to say ‘I’m growing it to raise aware-

ness about prostate cancer and the need for age-appropriate screenings.’” With prostate cancer, there are no symptoms until the disease is in advanced stages. Because most prostate cancers can be cured if they are discovered early, routine screenings are imperative. Screenings consist of a digital rectal exam and a blood drawn to check the level of prostate specific antigen (PSA). It’s important to get both the exam and the PSA test because with many men, suspicious findings are detected by one and not the other. Urologist Dan Ricchiuti, M.D., recommends men begin annual prostate cancer screenings at age 40 – earlier if there is a family history of prostate cancer. African-American men in the Mahoning Valley are twice as likely to get prostate cancer and to die from it as any other race, according to Man Up Mahoning Valley. “Our goal is to raise awareness about prostate cancer and encourage men to talk with their doctors and get annual screenings,” Fauvie said. “We hope we’ll have men throughout the entire community challenging their friends, families and coworkers to grow mustaches and spread the word about the importance of prostate cancer screenings. We hope women will get involved too. Women can’t grow mustaches, but they can encourage the men. Women are very important because they are the ones who often insist that the men in their lives see their doctors.” For more information about the Movember campaign, visit www.facebook.com/ManUPMahoningValley.
