C.H. Campbell Elementary School students learned some important life skills, along with learning Tae Kwon Do from Master Justin Taylor Jr., during gym class the week of Nov. 6. Master Taylor is the owner of the Junior Tae Kwon Do School in Boardman. Taylor focused on the importance of confident body language, eye contact, stranger awareness and bullying prevention. For the kindergarten through second-grade students, I talk about stranger awareness and for the third- and fourth-graders, I focus on bullying prevention,” Taylor said. Taylor explained to a firstgrade class that a stranger isn’t necessarily a bad guy. “Just because someone is a stranger to you, that doesn’t mean he or she is a bad guy. It just means you don’t know them. There are good strangers, such as a police officer, a substitute teacher, a doctor, an ambulance driver and even a lifeguard. You can talk to these

people if you are in trouble even if you don’t know them,” Taylor said. Students who enjoy the gym classes may participate in an after school program later in the month at the Junior Tae Kwon Do School. “Anyone who is interested can sign up for the after school program of martial arts classes at my school where they can then test for their yellow belt on the last day of class. They then receive their yellow belt certification. We also have the kids break boards on the last day and have a pizza party for the kids and their parents,” Taylor said. Taylor t ravels to severa l schools in the area, including Hilltop Elementary and Canfield Village Middle School. He is also involved in over half the schools in Trumbull County. “The cost of the after school program is $20 for four 45 minute classes. I donate 100 percent of that cost back to the school, in this case C.H. Campbell. Between this year and last year, I Neighbors | Abby Slanker have donated $15,000 back to A C.H. City Council President Don Dragish, Mayor Bernie Kosar and Tow nship Trustee Marie Izzo-Cartwright worked together to bring this project to fruition. We would literally not be here if it weren’t for the cooperation between the city and the township. They didn’t think this project should die,” Masternick said. Masternick then introduced Mayor Kosar. “Thank you, John, for taking our vision and expanding on it. I did not envision this being so beautiful. Thank you for

your patience and thank you for coming to Canfield,” Kosar said. After his remarks, Kosar presented Masternick with a key to the city. City Council President Don Dragish then approached the podium to address the crowd. “I would just like to thank everyone for this beautiful facility. It is a great business to bring to Canfield. John, you and your family and very gracious and it shows in this project,” Dragish said. The Masternick family has always been a big help to the Mahoning Valley. Their family has improved the quality of life for so many. I know it is a difficult decision for families to make about loved ones, but when you have good people who you can trust on this side, it makes all the difference in the world,” Sen. Schiavoni said. A ribbon cutting took place, with all attendees then invited inside the facility for tours and refreshments.

PEP RALLY Continued from Page 6

Each class was tasked with coming up with a game to play at the pep rally, with the freshman class having members of each class play Super Smash the Bulldogs and the sophomore class having members of each class playing Go Bananas on the Dogs. The junior class had members of each class participate in a relay race and the senior class had members of each class participate in another relay race called Dog Bone Find. In between games, the Canfield High School cheerleaders entertained the crowd and got them pumped up for the Canfield versus Poland football game scheduled for Friday night. Hamilton also introduced Canfield High School’s

new faculty members. Throughout the pep rally, Hamilton kept the students updated on the spirit competition scores between the classes, and at the end of tallying, proclaimed for the first time there was a tie between the senior class and the junior class. Hamilton proposed a tie breaker with a wheelbarrow race. With three seniors racing three juniors, the juniors squeezed out a win and Hamilton declared the junior class the winner of the spirit competition. Big Red, the Canfield High School mascot, got the students cheering by leading a victory cheer for each class, giving the students a chance to out-cheer their peers. To close the pep rally, the students gathered on the gym floor, and accompanied by the CHS band, sang the school’s Alma Mater.
