Families were able to spend time together at the library while also having the chance for a librarian to educate and entertain the children. Kathe Orr, an Austintown librarian, started out the morning session with a fun song for the children to clap along to. Transitioning from the opening song to the next one, the caregivers were able to introduce the children one by one. Or r read “L la ma L la ma Wakey-Wake” by Anna Dewdney, followed by “How Does Neighbors | Alexis Bartolomucci Baby Feel?” by Karen Katz and Chris (left) and Kerrie Rybicki (not pictured) brought their daughter, A.J., to the Baby Brilliant: Bonding with Babies “If You’re Happy and You Know and Books event at the Austintown library Nov. 3. Poland library lets you color your stress away By ALEXIS BARTOLOMUCCI abartolomucci@vindy.com

Smith also tries to make her classes a bit informative. “I try to give everybody a little bit of history, like about crayons and the first coloring book,” she said. Showing the history of the first coloring supplies gives people an idea of how far the coloring world has come. Art started from first drawing on a flat surface to now being able to use different 3-D art mechanisms. This event is offered once a month at the Poland library. Coloring tools, sheets and snacks will always be provided, but anyone is more than welcome to bring their own supplies.

The table was set up with several art supplies and coloring worksheets for the participants to use. Those who attended were also able to bring their own supplies if they wanted to.

The Poland library passed out coloring sheets, colored pencils, crayons and markers during the Color You World event on Nov. 4. Teens and adults came to this event for a chance to relax while coloring and listening to soothing music. To keep in the theme of coloring, colorful snacks were provided. Guests could choose from Skittles, Starbursts and rainbow M&M cookies, along with lemonade and water to drink. Barb Smith, the librarian supervisor, led the event after hav-

ing the idea suggested by her sister and niece. She thought it would be a good way for people to relieve stress. “This event is relaxing and a good way to meet people. The library likes to try and have diverse activities for many people to enjoy,” said Smith. One of the videos that Smith showed the guests was about 3-D coloring. There are now smartphone apps that one can download to use with certain coloring books. When the phone scans over the book the images appear to pop out of the page. Some brands that offer these 3-D coloring options are Popar, Disney, Quiver and Crayola.
