Community comes together to keep ‘#HannahStrong’ By ALEXIS BARTOLOMUCCI abartolomucci@vindy.com

Hannah Tringhese is a 6-yearold first-grade student who was diagnosed with optic pathway glioma earlier in the year and has been on the pathway to recovery with the support of friends, family and the community. Greenbriar Health Center hosted a spaghetti dinner on Oct. 22 for Tringhese to help raise money for any medical or personal expenses her family may have. Janette Neal, Director of Public Relations at Greenbriar, presented a check to the Tringhese family for the $2,000 raised during the spaghetti dinner. The Hannah Strong organization was recently created to help other families who are going through situations similar to Hannah’s to have the support that the Tringhese family has been receiving. “The biggest relief for us during this time has been getting a chance to be a family and have a break. I would like to see our organization provide respite for other families and to give them a chance to have a few moments to themselves where they can take a break and sit back and have a moment where they can gather their thoughts,” said Hannah’s mom Sarah Tringhese. scans throughout the year to keep up-to-date on the inoperable tumor. The tumor has taken away the sight in her right eye, but with each doctor visit the tumor has been shrinking significantly. “That shock doesn’t let you think about anything but dealing with your kid. If we can do things to give them someway to get away, a weekend away or a week away,” said Larry Pennington. Hannah wears purple glasses

that have become a recognition symbol for Hannah Strong. The purple glasses graphic appears on different events and programs that are put on by the Hannah Strong organization. Hannah’s story has been spreading quickly and is becoming bigger. The story attached to Hannah Strong and the purple glasses isn’t just about the Tringhese family, but about childhood cancer. The Tringheses are very faithdriven and want the Hannah Strong name to be a faith-based

organization. They continue to pray and are being blessed with the success of Hannah’s treatment. “We like to do a lot of community events, outside community and inside community, because we are a community here,” said Neal. The Tringhese family has a Facebook page under Hannah Strong and an Instagram page under prayersforhannahlynn that the family uses to posts updates on Hannah.
