West Boulevard prepares for holiday season By ALEXIS BARTOLOMUCCI abartolomucci@vindy.com
Santa’s Workshop and other events were open to the students and families of West Boulevard Elementary during the week of Nov. 30 through Dec. 4. West Boulevard Elementary hosted several holiday events. “We have Santa’s Workshop going on, we have a giving tree, we have Koins for Kids, a book fair,”
said West Boulevard principal, Al Cervello. With the holiday season approaching, West Boulevard is helping out all they can to raise money for those in need. The giving tree was available for the students to donate items for the less fortunate. The school also had Koins for Kids which is a charity to help raise money for those in need. Students could donate their spare change for a
good cause. While the students work on raising money for charity for the holidays, they also were given the chance to purchase gifts for themselves and their friends and families. The book fair and Santa’s Workshop took place during the same week for the students and their families to visit. The students could purchase items from Santa’s Workshop
and the book fair during school hours so their gifts could be a surprise. These events were also open to the families of the students so they could work on their holiday shopping as well. The money raised during the workshop and book fair help out the school. The funds are used towards different school needs, such as supplies, as well as different programs the school hosts.

Participants rise to the occasion to bake bread By ALEXIS BARTOLOMUCCI abartolomucci@vindy.com
Fellows Riverside Gardens invited Sara Scudier to teach a class about bread making on Nov. 21. Several guests attended the event and went home with a fresh loaf of homemade bread. Scudier gave printed out instructions to the participants
to help guide them through the bread making process. She demonstrated step by step and answered any questions along the way. The participants started by measuring ingredients, mixing everything together, kneading the dough, putting it into molds and then baking it into bread. The entire process took about
fours hours, but Scudier said if there was more available time, she would have used it. The more time someone puts into making bread, the better the final product turns out. Some of the participants had made their own bread before, but others had never made it. Those who made bread before told the others about their expe-

Many people were worried that their bread would not turn out right, but Scudier made sure to help everyone. She told them it might not turn out perfect, especially if it was their first time

Don’t worry that yours isn’t going to be perfect, it might not be.” Scudier said she plans on having another bread making class in April.

Allison Graff, a boardman librarian, led the event. Graff watches the children build their Lego projects while working on her own. “My favorite part is talking to them about what they built. They have some good imagination going on,” she said. The children choose Legos
and different pieces from the “Lego buffet table.” After they choose what pieces they want, they put everything together to create their artwork. Graff said there are usually around 20 children who show up and they have a full hour to build whatever they like. Books and some DVDs are

cial for the new restaurant to come in during a certain time and day. There was a great outcome allowing the commercial to showcase how updated the restaurant was and how it attracted many people. “The strawberry field roll is the most popular item. It is what people order the most,” said Wang. This roll consists of crab meat, tempura shrimp, avocado and strawberries. The
food items are delicately made and are appealing to the eye. There is a range of dishes to choose from, desserts to sushi to hibachi. While Wang works to make Fushimi run as smoothly as he can, he still tries his best to keep Pho Saigon in order. Having two restaurants is a lot to take care of, but Wang says showing his food to everyone he can is something he aspires to do.

Thanksgiving arrangements for the dinner table By ALEXIS BARTOLOMUCCI abartolomucci@vindy.com
Guests attended Fellows Riverside Gardens on Nov. 24 to create a Thanksgiving arrangement for the holiday. Marie Borocz led a lesson on how to create your own Thanksgiving centerpiece. Borocz prov ided various
types of flowers, cattails, plastic berries and other objects to use in the arrangements. An array of fall colors, from red to brown, were available to choose from. Those who attended started with a flower pot to place all of their flowers in. There was a small pumpkin on a stick placed in the center of each ar-
rangement. The flowers were then placed all around the pumpkin. Borocz, owner of Homestead Florist and Gifts, made her own centerpiece as a demonstration for the others to follow along with. She told the ladies attending to be as creative as they wished. If anyone needed help, Borocz had no problem
walking around the room giving out advice to those who asked for it. There have been severa l other classes taught by Borocz at Fellows Riverside Gardens. Borocz’s classes during the holiday season tend to focus on creating a holiday arrangement for the participants to use to decorate their homes.

MILL
Continued from Page N7
Christmas trees, vendors selling assorted Christmas decorations and wreaths made Christmas come to life. There was a Giv ing Tree Christmas tree outside for people to give donations of mittens, hats, scarves and other items to keep children in need warm for the winter. All of the donations were given to the school children of Mahoning County. The Giving Tree was donated by Pioneer Trails Tree Farm. Vendors set up shop in Lanterman’s Mill and had their holiday
crafts on display. There were pinecone decorations, candles, knitted items and an assortment of other items available for guests to purchase. Santa and his elf were available for Christmas list wishes and pictures throughout the weekend. Children lined up with their families to see Santa. Tables were set up with food from hot dogs to roasted chestnuts for guests to enjoy. Hot chocolate was also given to guests to sip on while listening to the live Christmas music. The Olde Fashioned Christmas is an event that happens annually and is sponsored by WFMJ/WBCB.
