We have the Power The value of expatriates living in Spain has never been as important as it is now, as we approach the municipal elections which will undoubtedly prove to be either divisive or decisive. In the national and regional elections, we saw how the once seemingly unstoppable PP suf-

fered their most crushing defeat in history. Meanwhile, the PSOE have grown through the seemingly unflappable leadership they have shown in taking over and forming a coalition government, albeit still not quite to the level of the support of their former glory days. Continued on Page 2

To complicate matters further, we have also witnessed a dilution of the political picture, with smaller parties taking up votes, some in protest, but many more in support of their levelheadedness and simplistic approach to their own core values.

However, as foreign residents eligible to vote in the local elections, we are a crucial part in forming the future of our own home municipalities. The Alicante province has the largest number of foreign voters who may participate in the municipal elections, with a staggering 96,742 registered to vote. The majority of those foreign registrants across Alicante are British. Incidentally, there are some 74,650 people across the province also registered to vote in the European elections. In Spain, 466,696 foreigners from 47 different countries will be able to vote in the municipal elections and of them, more than 365,000 will also have the right to vote, in addition, in the elections to the European Parliament. Andalusia is the second most important location for foreign voter numbers with 82,256 people registered and eligible to vote in the municipal elections there, followed by Catalonia and then Madrid, with 69,778 and 63,207 respectively. Although politics is often seen as a contentious subject, it is becoming clearer to many of their need to get involved. Despite the blows seen by the leading traditional parties in the national and regional elections, more people actually turned out to vote.

In these local elections, there are 2,937 more people eligible and registered than the last elections held four years ago. Of those residents who are natives of Europe, and so also eligible to vote in the continental parliament, there are 29,018 more people than were eligible and registered in the European elections five years ago. The power is ours, and so the importance of exercising that vote has probably never been as important as it is now. However, with great power comes great responsibility (Spiderman), and so we need to consider our options carefully. The immediate choice may well be between our own traditional party loyalty, strengthening their hold once more, but will that vote mean better local services for us? History can play a big part in proving this for the bigger parties who have led us in the past. Should we consider choosing one of the more local, perhaps even unheard of groups or candidates, or would that vote simply lead to further dilution at a local level and a lack of action that leads to further division through coalition? Do we put our trust in those politicians who have done nothing but try to make their campaigns personal, launching attacks on individuals, rather than positive promises for the future, and if we have seen promises from any of these representatives, do they really have the ability and power to deliver? We have to power to enact change, if change is what is needed. There are many choices to be made in what will be one of the most important elections in the history of where you live, and one which will shape your future, and so having taken the time to register, make sure you use that vote. Into the bowels of The Titanic It has been 107 years since the Titanic became almost a legend, its sinking costing more than 1500 lives, and now, over a century later, the loss of this British transatlantic vessel will be remembered in ‘Titanic The Exhibition’ which will open at La Lonja Exhibition Centre in Alicante on Tuesday 21 May where it will remain for very nearly 6 months. The event, which is currently being assembled, was attended last week by Alicante’s Councillor of Culture, Maria Dolores Padilla, who said that the council is delighted to bring this exhibition to the city. She said that in 2016 La Lonja hosted 12 exhibitions with 37,000 visitors; in 2017, 15 events with 45,600 visits and last year, there were 11 exhibitions, including the Van Gogh multimedia, with 91,691 visits. The Titanic exhibition will feature a model of the ship - the largest in the world - 12 metres in length, 4.5 in width and 3.9 in depth, which shows all the details of the interior of the boat, adorned with over 3,000 points of light. Also the Titanic car, a runabout from 1909 that was scheduled to, but never arrived to embark, and whose owner gave it to the Titanic Foundation; and the original painting ‘The Dream of the Titanic,’ by the Santander-born painter Enrique Gran. But essentially an interactive exhibition it showcases over 300 artifacts from Titanic and her sister ships and from famous films to tell the chronological, dramatic tale of the design, creation, launch, maiden voyage and tragedy of the largest and most luxurious ship in the world at the time.

The artifacts are set inside beautiful fully immersive recreations of the ships interior and tell the latest details of her sinking and discovery. The artifacts are a combination of those that survived the sinking of Fermin, right, the Titanic, her sister ships as well as items from the Jamespictured Cameron with Ciudadanos blockbuster film Titanic.

Councillor Luisa Bone

Titanic The Exhibition is an interactive experience, where visitors receive a boarding pass corresponding with a passenger on the ship. This allows the visitors to relate to the individual story of their passenger as they explore the first, second and third class galleries and the artifacts from each. They will hear the music of the era as they examine exact recreations of the ship's interiors, stroll the promenade deck, and marvel at the famous Grand Staircase, the social gathering place of the ship. The stories of love and loss culminate in the final galleries showcasing personal effects and the individual anecdotes surrounding a tribute wall where each passenger’s fate is revealed. The Discovery Gallery, dedicated to the discovery and research of Titanic’s wreck site, features a raised glass floor; giving an impression of walking along the bottom of the ocean. Broken china and artifacts in the sand below allow visitors to experience what discovery teams saw during dives to Titanic’s wreck site. A striking and informative film, narrated by James Cameron, provides an in-depth look at the most recent forensic research related to the collision, breakup, and sinking of the Titanic. Also featured, National Geographic’s Emory Kristof’s award winning underwater photography of the Titanic lines the walls in a stunning display of the ship’s current state on the sea floor. On closing in November the exhibition will continue through Italy, France and the United Kingdom, and from there it will then move on to New York.

PSOE promises overhaul of Public Services in Horadada Candidate for mayor, Pilar Samper, flanked by Valencian President Ximo Puig and the retiring mayor of Pilar de la Horadada, Ignacio Ramos

area. The PSOE kicked-off its election campaign last week with the traditional posters, distributed throughout the area by Pilar Samper and her party activists. She said that her electoral program has a strategy that has been planned for the entire four year term and that involves an investment in all areas, especially those of infrastructure and public services, such as culture, sports, health, education and public safety for all neighborhoods and all urbanisations . "Our electoral program is exactly what is needed in the town, it is a commitment that we have developed as a strategic plan for investments and actions. It is our roadmap of what and how we are going to do things, of knowing how to pay and making sure we don’t fall back into debt,” said Ms Samper.

Having tidied up the municipal accounts and eliminated the council debt, the PSOE say that they now want to turn the municipality into the economic and social capital of the south of the Alicante province. "We want to increase the passion that residents have for Pilar de la Horadada that will allow us to expand on our efforts to make the town the economic and social capital of the south of the

province of Alicante. We have people in our town who are ready to help us go forward, an environment that is constantly interacting and a desire to grow. All we need your support that will enable us to push forward Pilar de la Horadada, "said the PSOE candidate, Pilar María Samper, referring to her electoral manifesto that proposes a makeover of the town, but without generating more debt, and thereby improving the municipality's status in the

In this regard, Samper said that the new PSOE government will see the construction of a new institute, a new school (both projects already have a budget agreed by the Generalitat), a pre-school for children from 0 to 3 years, a nursing home with a day centre day and a new headquarters for social services. In addition there will be better access to local police throughout neighborhoods and districts, the cultural centre will be finally finished and all medical centres refurbished. "For this we have our

own funds, but we have also shown that we are able to obtain grants from other areas, so where we are eligible for grants we will make sure that we get them and thereby conserve our own funds,” she added. In addition, the electoral commitment of PSPVPSOE will ensure the comprehensive renovation of public roads, parks and gardens and the creation of more children's areas throughout the municipality. There will be additional support to those areas of economic activity, such as commerce, industry and agriculture. "We will also make sure that we compete in tourism with the much larger destinations of Murcia and Alicante; we will expand our cultural attractions with our archaeological heritage and our festivals and traditions, "said Samper. There will be specific training for small businesses, for entrepreneurs and personalised aid from social services, with easier to follow, and more transparent rules, as we search for solutions for these families, she explained. "We have a clear commitment to combat child poverty and that requires the cooperation of many areas." In short, Pilar María Samper asked for support from residents across the municipality to create "a Pilar de la Horadada that is fit for purpose in the 21st century, with opportunities for growth and with resources to grow, and with a model of social justice where nobody is left behind and alone".

ORIHUELA COSTA’s STRUGGLE FOR IDENTITY Sunday, 26 May, the date of the Orihuela municipal elections, marks another chapter in Orihuela Costa’s struggle for identity. Voters on the coast, including the British who maintain their right to vote, at least one more time, will have a chance to say what kind of Orihuela Costa they wish to live in.

Helene with the President of La Zenia Assn, Felix Arenas

The outcome of the elections will probably be close but the march towards a distinct identity for Orihuela Costa should take a further step forward. The struggle for identity began 12 years ago, in 2007, when the local political party C.L.A.R.O. contested the municipal elections for the first time. The party discovered that although the population was growing and was no longer a place for second home owners just seeking sun and beaches, they were effectively disenfranchised. Orihuela Costa residents, mainly British at that time, had no official addresses to which voting cards could be sent. Consequently over 10,000 voting cards were returned undelivered making voting difficult. Despite this huge obstacle, C.L.A.R.O. did well, obtaining half the votes cast. Their first action after the election was to prepare to take the Town Hall to the court of the European Parliament for violation of democratic rights. The threat was sufficient to oblige the Town Hall to provide proper street names and house numbers. The struggle for identity had begun. Two further elections followed in 2011 and 2015. In 2011 C.L.A.R.O. entered a coalition with the then CLR party and together with two other parties they ended the political monopoly of the Popular Party. A C.L.A.R.O. councillor became the first non-Spanish Councillor for the Coast. C.L.A.R.O. hoped this would ensure an end to discrimination, better service and civic facilities in return for the ever increasing revenue generated by the expanding Orihuela Costa. However the CLR-C.L.A.R.O. Coalition ended badly with C.L.A.R.O’S partners effectively forcing the C.L.A.R.O. Councillor out of the government. If this was a setback in the struggle for identity, the 2015 election result could be considered a backward step. The post of Councillor for the Coast was abolished by the Popular Party Mayor, supported by Ciudadanos, formerly CLR with a different label but same content. The two parties became coalition partners and have governed Orihuela until today. There have been no significant improvements in Orihuela Costa in this time.

However, the prelude to the elections on 26 May suggest that the struggle for identity has recovered momentum. A strong Federation of Neighbourhood Associations (FAOC) has emerged as an effective, non-political voice demanding better services and investments for the coast. A Citizens Movement (Agrupacion) was initiated among the Spanish population which has been significantly boosted in number thanks to employment opportunities created by La Zenia Boulevard. They too want value for their tax money and the same improvements demanded by C.L.A.R.O. and FAOC. They will not contest the election this time. Even the outgoing Popular Party Councillor, Sofia Alvarez, has joined the struggle, championing the creation of “Local Autonomy“ and a fair share of expenditure for Orihuela Costa. C.L.A.R.O has joined a Coalition which stands for a DE-CENTRALISED government, also a form of local autonomy which would ensure a proper return in the form of basic services and municipal facilities for the taxes paid by coastal residents. Their leading candidate, Helene Akerman, stands a very good chance of being elected. If voters rise to the occasion, there is every hope that this election will see Orihuela Costa take a major step forward in asserting its identity within the municipality of Orihuela. This could bring about the long awaited, fairer share of municipal services and facilities. The still strong British population of voters could have a decisive say in the outcome. Despite the distractions of Brexit, they have every interest in exercising their right to vote: to assert their presence, their wish to maintain existing rights and benefits and to live in a more just municipality in which they have a voice.

The brave face of the Orihuela PSOE

" La Orihuela Valiente" is the slogan that the Orihuela PSOE have chosen to use during their electoral campaign, ‘Orihuela the Brave,’ but I find it disappointing that the party don’t seem to be brave enough to face the electorate on the Orihuela Costa. The list of rallies that they have published has them travelling around the city and the pedanias but, rather surprisingly, there is nothing scheduled for the coast. They do produce a manifesto in English, however, that promises improved services for the coast. Among the areas covered there is the establishment of an efficient public transport system, direct management of the sports centre, an eco park, youth centre, second health centre, cultural centre and promises to make the Civic Centre into a health and leisure centre for the elderly. So why cant they tell us all this in person I wonder?

Decade of Rate Misery Savers who stashed their money with major banks have lost as much as a fifth of it in real terms over the past decade. Money Mail research shows low interest rates and the rise in the cost of living since the 2008 financial crash have reduced the value of each ÂŁ10,000 to ÂŁ8,000. It is nearly a decade since rates plummeted to their then-historic 0.5 per cent low, as the Bank of England grappled with the immediate fall-out of the financial crisis. Savers see the spending power of their money fall if the interest they earn is less than the inflation rate.

DOES YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY GUARANTEE A COURTESY CAR AFTER A BUMP?

f your vehicle is involved in an accident and has to go in for repairs, the last thing you need to worry about is organising alternative transport while your car is off the road.

Fully comprehensive car insurance with Línea Directa guarantees a free courtesy car after an accident, for an unlimited period of time, until your car is back on the road. To qualify, policyholders need to take out additional Replacement Car Cover and ensure that the vehicle is repaired in one of their approved national network of authorised repairers. This includes free pick-up and drop-off of the vehicle and they guarantee original manufacturer replacement parts.

With a fleet of nearly 1,000 Audi A1 courtesy cars, Línea Directa is already helping to keep its customers on the move. Following a claim, here is what one customer has said about this new and enhanced service.

In Spain, you are allowed to have some of your car´s windows tinted, but there are rules. Car window tinting is a great way of cooling down the inside of the vehicle, especially during the upcoming summer months, and can also add a certain amount of privacy to the vehicle. The process can also add an extra level of security in the event of the glass breaking, and can protect you and your vehicle´s occupants from harmful UV rays. Tinted windows are created by the application of dark sheets that are glued onto the original glass of the vehicle. However, this is not just something that you can do yourself, as there are serious consequences in getting it wrong. Firstly, we need to know that not all the windows are allowed to be tinted. In fact, it is not permitted to have the front windows tinted in any way, and both the vehicle´s windscreen and side windows at the front must remain clean as per the manufacturer’s

Window Tinting – The rules...

specification. This same rule applies to stick on sunshades. You must not affix anything to the front windows, other than the small stickers defined by law, the ITV, Eco and “car share” stickers on the windscreen, for example. You are allowed to have your rear door windows or the back windows if your vehicle doesn´t have doors, and the rear window of the vehicle tinted. The tinting must be of an approved type, and the opacity must fall within specified requirements, but we don´t need to worry about these as only approved tints can be used and fitted by an approved installer. The installer must provide you with a certificate provided by the manufacturer of the laminate that must be completed by the installer. This certificate must then accompany your vehicle´s documents. Once you have your windows tinted it is important to monitor them for any faults. If the laminate starts to bubble or peel, then it is no longer acceptable and must be removed or replaced. This is because these flaws will reduce visibility which must always be maintained around the vehicle.

Vehicle History If you are considering buying a second-hand vehicle in Spain, there are a few things you need to be aware of. Aside from ensuring the documentation is in order, there is an official way in which you can check the data and information held on file, obtaining a detailed report of the vehicle´s history. There are two types of report, a standard and detailed report, and then there are five types of detailed reports: complete, technical data, loads, vehicles in the name of the interested party and vehicles without registration. The reduced report, Informe reducido, confirms the correct identification of the vehicle and if there is any type of incident recorded with it. You can apply for the reduced report online at dgt.es, and it is free. The Detailed report, Informe detallado, includes more information about the vehicle, such as its current owner, if it is authorised to be used on the road, the expiration of the ITV and any recorded incidents. You can request any of the five detailed reports online dgt.es, or in person at your Provincial Traffic Headquarters, with the required documents and payment. In order to request a detailed

report, you will need the completed official application form, the identification of the interested party, the reason for which the report is requested, and confirmation of the fee having been paid, which is currently 8.40€. To request the document at the trafico office you will need to make an appointment via the website, dgt.es , or by telephoning the 060 telephone number. If you are making an appointment to request the documentation it is also worth keeping in mind that the offices cannot accept cash and payment is only possible with a bank card.

Eight candidates but just one destination Torrevieja constituents will be able to choose between eight different candidates on 26 May when they go to the electoral colleges to cast their vote in the municipal elections with representatives from the PP, PSOE, Los Verdes, Sueña Torrevieja, Ciudadanos, IU-Unidas Podemos, Vox and Contigo Somos Democracia, all extremely hopeful, some rather more than others, that they will be the next mayor.

However the APTCe, a party led by Domingo Soler that was born of the PP split, has disappeared from the electoral scene while Los Verdes and Compromis are now unified.

The Partido Popular’s Eduardo Dolón, a PP candidate for the third time, hopes to regain the mayor’s office that he lost in what was a dramatic failure in 2015 to his Los Verde namesake. This time he will be fighting the election without the ex-deputy PP numbers 1 and 2, Eduardo Joaquín Albaladejo, but with support from much Dolon and Rosario Martinez of the business community as well as the very popular and extremely capable Rosario Martinez by his side at number 2, despite the downturn in the party’s national popularity, it is hopeful of achieving the 13 councillors needed to wrest overall control from the Los Verdes coalition. Andrés Navarro heads the PSOE list after surviving a very tough internal struggle. The PSOE hopes that the national results, which provided the first victory to the PSOE in 30 years, can be expanded into Torrevieja which would see the party increase the number of its councillors from the 4 achieved in 2015 to 7. Los Verdes will be fighting the elections with Compromís, the veteran José Manuel Dolón , having remained as mayor against all odds with just

four councillors (the same as the PSOE in 2015). Sueña Torrevieja, the surprise of 2015, has Pablo Samper back at the top of the list with Alejandro Blanco at number 2 while Pilar Gómez Magán, Ciudadanos, has predicted that "the orange wave will continue to grow in the upcoming municipal elections on May 26 because it has been shown that we are the only alternative to bipartisanship. She anticipated that the C’s will double the number of councillors from 2 to 4. Vox is perhaps the great unknown going into these elections although with their internal struggles and recent sackings it is currently a party in disarray. Striking somewhat of nepotism the Torrevieja party is led by married couple Carolina Vigara and Juan Carlos Ramos. Reluctant to use conventional media, Vox choose instead to work the streets with their information tents. After the celebrations and commiserations of the recent general elections many of Torrevieja’s party’s have adjusted their political ambitions, all but one perhaps, who, despite disappointing national results insists that he has the team and the policies that Torrevieja needs. “I am joined by 13 men and 14 women who have in common their love for Torrevieja,” he says.

Radio debate for Orihuela leaders Is the time now right for

a centre government?

Bascuñana (PP), Gracia (PSOE), Bernabé (Cambiemos Alliance), Aix (Ciudadanos)

The four main candidates for mayor in Orihuela took the opportunity to hold a public debate on Radio Orihuela- Cadena Ser last week prior to the municipal elections to be held on Sunday 26 May. But rather than a debate between the leaders the programme provided little more than an opportunity for the quartet to each declare their intentions for the future of Orihuela as the contenders took advan-

tage of the opportunity to publicise their campaign plan and strategy in the hope of attracting the public vote. As expected the shoddy treatment and proposed improvements for Districts and the Coast took up a good part of their presentations, with all of the leaders also distancing themselves from a role in opposition as they each hinted at possible future alliances.

José Aix, the mayoral candidate for Ciudadanos in Orihuela, got his electoral campaign underway at the Party Headquarters last week using the campaign image and slogan ¡Vamos Orihuela, "It's time for a centre government, a moderate government, a government headed by Ciudadanos.” Aix said that "for two years our councillors have managed Culture, Youth, Beaches and Infrastructure, demonstrating our abilities to govern, and we have been influential in making the local administration work, proving that we know what the people want, and today, we present our electoral candidates, where the experience of Luisa Boné and Mar Ezcurra will be combined with many other candidates who all have an active presence in many different sectors of the Orihuela society, that will allow us to better run the Orihuela government and ensure that the manifesto that we have prepared for the next four years will provide a far better future for the whole municipality. " Juan Ignacio López-Bas, the Ciudadanos member of the National Congress of Deputies, and still the deputy mayor

of Orihuela, attended the launch in support of José Aix and his team. He said that by voting for Ciudadanos Orihuela the people will be supporting the very best team with the very best vision for the future. "We have been able to do so many things in just two years with only three councillors. With José Aix as mayor of Orihuela, and with more Ciudadanos councillors, the municipality can have a far better future in which many more policies can be carried out across the entire constituency," he said.

Live in Spain more than four weeks a year? Here’s why it’s worth pre-planning your funeral as an expat It’s probably the last thing you want to think about when you’re enjoying your life in the sun, but planning ahead for your funeral is something all British expats in Spain should do. When the time comes, will your loved ones know what to do and how to arrange a funeral in Spain? The Spanish funeral system has some key differences that catch many expats unaware. Traditionally, Spanish funerals happen as quickly as 24 to 48 hours after the person passes away. Funerals for expats can take longer, especially if friends and family want to fly out to say their goodbyes. But beware – this delay could cost your loved ones hundreds of Euros in extra mortuary expenses, which are often charged by the day. In addition, it’s common practice for Funeral Directors in Spain to request either part or full payment upfront. That means your next of kin might have to pay up hundreds or thousands of Euros before the funeral can take place. Then there’s the language barrier to deal with, as well as unfamiliar

processes and paperwork. That’s why it’s so helpful to plan ahead to make things a little easier for your family. “Your next of kin might have to pay up hundreds or thousands of Euros before the funeral can take place.” Whether you live in Spain the whole year round, or have a summer home here, a prepaid funeral plan makes sure everything will be taken care of when you’re gone. An Avalon funeral plan lets you pay for your funeral in advance, either in a lump sum or affordable monthly payments, so that your loved ones don’t have to deal with complicated funeral arrangements or unexpected costs. Avalon’s plans are specially designed for British expats. If you split your time between the UK and Spain, an Avalon plan is valid in both countries so you can choose to have a funeral either in Spain, or back in the UK. Their local, specialist advisors are on hand to talk through your options so you can relax, knowing everything will be taken care of. Avalon is the fastest growing provider of funeral plans in Europe, helping more than 70,000 customers across Europe and the UK for over 25 years. “In difficult circumstances, with myself and two brothers spread around the world, it was impossible for us all to get together for the funeral, which was required to take place within a short timeframe. Mike at Avalon offered us considerable help and support to enable everything to be arranged in a dignified and timely manner.”

Los Montesinos 2.5 million euros in the black under Mayor José Butron

By Andrew Atkinson LOS Montesinos town hall have revealed the Vega Baja town has 2.5 million euros to spend under the leadership of Mayor José Manuel Butron. "Because of the impeccably fiscal management that Jose Manuel Butron and his team have achieved, the town of Los Montesinos is now 2.5 million euros in the black!," a spokesperson told the Costa Blanca and Costa Calida Leader.

Additional investment in the town will continue, in the wake of hundreds of thousands of euros currently being spent within the vicinity. Street lighting, childrens' play areas, roads, footpaths, and the town's Municipal Sports facilities, are amongst areas that have been improved. The municipal swimming pool area and the municipal sports stadium have benefitted - with finances ploughed into improvements. The junior, youth and senior football teams of CD Montesinos will benefit with a new astro turf pitch being laid, replacing the 15 year old pitch. "We will be able to be invest more in the town during the coming years, without having to take out any loans," added the spokesperson. Both Spanish born and ex pat residents and non residents have applauded Los Montesinos's excellent and responsible management of taxpayers money.

By Andrew Atkinson reporting Torrevieja news MARLON Jackson's visit to Torrevieja with The Jacksons this summer has been cancelled - after the promoters failed to get permission from Torrevieja Town Hall. "My brothers and I are looking forward to visiting Torrevieja on August 9 to have a good time - having a 'Jacksons Party'," said Marlon, via video link, prior to the shock cancellation.

Torrevieja town hall has issued notice of a tender which is open for the management of the half marathon sporting race in the town. The councillor for Sports, Víctor Ferrández, stated that after spending the last two years preparing the requirements for the tender, in order to satisfy the necessary legal requirements, prospective bidders have until 5 June to submit their tender, with the documents and full information available on the town hall website, torrevieja.es. However, it won´t be an easy race for the bidders to win, as the requirements are now stricter than ever for the company who will be awarded the almost 300,000 euro contract.

The concert event has been thwarted after Torrevieja deputy mayor Fanny Serrano revealed no authorisation had been given. "The Jacksons advertising campaign for the concert event began before authorisation had been given," said Torrevieja deputy mayor Serrano. Marlon Jackson had said on behalf of The Jacksons that they were looking forward to visiting Spain for the first time in August. The Jacksons scheduled concert, part of the groups 50th anniversary tour, which began in 2015, was set to be performed at Torrevieja Eras De La Sal outdoor venue. The Jacksons, previously known as The Jackson 5, an RnB pop band from Gary, Indiana, consists of Jackie Jackson, Tito Jackson, Jermaine Jackson and Marlon

Jackson. The group has featured both Randy and Michael Jackson. The Jacksons debut single in the 1960s, “I want you back” was set to be performed at the Spain concert, along with top hits including “ABC”, “The Love you Save”and “I´ll be There”. The group released ten albums under Motown – including their debut “Diana Ross presents the Jackson 5”. The band re-formed several times, including a reunion tour following the death of Michael Jackson in 2009. Following The Jacksons summer Torrevieja concert tour of 2019 announcement earlier this year, Marlon Jackson said: "We are looking to have a great time in Torrevieja."

They will also have to provide four ambulances, two of them for patient transfer and two of providing life support, which is double the previous requirement, as well as the installation of a small field hospital with a doctor and medical support staff, in addition to the one physiotherapist required in the previous tender.

KRISTIAN'S STORY Kristian called Samaritans late one evening when he took measures to end his life. He knew that they were there for people who could no longer cope with life anymore. “I called Samaritans late one evening when everything became too much.” “I knew they helped people in their darkest hour and I wanted to see if they could be there for me.” “I found it hard to speak to begin with, but the guy on the other end of the phone waited. When I’d had a chance to gather my thoughts I began to unload and it felt like a huge weight was lifted from me.” “All that volunteer did was listen and to be honest that’s all I needed. ELCHE FIRM CREATES TIME RECORD SYSTEM A company from Elche is breaking down working time regulation barriers, by creating a system which enables staff to book on and off duty with a phone call. The system is designed to assist companies having to deal with new laws which force them to record the working hours of their staff. Workers can sign on and off duty from any device, whether it is a computer, tablet or mobile phone. The company, Siptize, which is part of the Miguel Hernández University in Elche, created the system to allow companies to adhere to the new laws aimed at protecting the rights of workers with ease, whilst also making it simple for those workers to have their times monitored. The worker makes a call at both the start and end of their shift, which is then recorded by the system that can provide a detailed report on the hours worked by each member of staff.

With all disciplines being run over round robin, most teams had to play 2 matches on the first day. At the end of the round robin the 3 group winners progressed to the semi finals along with the wildcard team. Due the unequal groups the wildcard was decided on percentage of the average shots scored within each group.

The Final will take place at Greenlands on 24th or 25th May. The Mixed Triples started on Monday at Greenlands. Following the round robin the 4 group winners progressed to the semi finals. Peta Rhodes (rt) modelling the latest Bowls Fashion accessory in a Group B Triples match

In the extra end the Emerald Isle trio held shot until Chris Collier took the jack into the ditch finishing about 15 inches away. EL PLANTIO2 GOLF An ideal number of 12 players for El Plantio 2's Waltz competition, played in calm conditions, which made for high scoring pretty much across the board. Taking most advantage of the conditions were man and wife duo, Paddy and Janice O'Brien, who scored 38 and 40 points for their respective teams. Despite being outscored individually, the winners of the competition made better use of the Waltz format, synchronising their returns to finish 3 points ahead of the second placed team. NTP – Hole 2, Ronnie Campbell and Hole 5, Barry Walthall . 2nd – Alistair Douglas, Janice O'Brien, Ronnie Campbell – 79 pts. 1st – Graham Blakeway, Paddy O'Brien, David Swann - 82 points... If anyone would like to join our Society, we play at El Plantio Golf Club every Tuesday, Friday and Sunday. We use both courses - the Par 3 nine hole course and the main 18 hole course, so we cater for all abilities. The membership rates are very competitive, so call for more details. Anyone who wishes to play in the Society as a guest or join as a new member, contact David Swann on 865 779 983 or 648 476 752.

LOS NIETOS GOLF SOCIETY La Serena, the nearest course to our village and home to a number of the members of Los Nietos Golf Society , was the course of choice for our May game. As it is well known in all of Europe, there are famously (and irritatingly costly in lost balls ! ) 16 holes on the course that feature water !! So on the day there were two extra prizes …… The Bob Skuse Trophy… the individual player who lost the most balls in the water and the total number lost by all of the 32 players. The sun shone and the wind was tamed, the course looked in fine fettle with the greens playing a little slower than usual, our brave souls were set up to teach this course a lesson in humility! Our thanks to all the staff at the club; they could not have been more helpful and courteous. The format for the day was an individual stableford format and the

Battash, Kachy and Mabs Cross in Haydock £100,000 Stakes Battaash, Kachy and Mabs Cross feature among the 21 entries for the 2019 £100,000 Armstrong Aggregates Temple Stakes on Saturday May 25. Lambourn-trained entry Battaash was second in the G1 King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot and enjoy a second success in the G2 King George Stakes at Glorious Goodwood, both also over the minimum distance of five furlongs. Leading entry Kachy has carried all before him on the All-Weather over the winter and landed the valuable All-Weather Sprint Championship at Lingfield Park on Good Friday, April 19. Mabs Cross followed up her fourth in the 2018 Armstrong Aggregates Temple Stakes, as she took third in the G1 King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot and was beaten just a nose in the G1 Nunthorpe Stakes at York by Alpha Delphini. The five-year-old Dutch Art mare ended 2018 perfectly when landing the G1 Prix de l'Abbaye at Longchamp, France, in early October. She had Battaash in fourth and Alpha Delphini back in 11th. Not surprisingly, Mabs Cross was

Did we teach this course a lesson in humility? Quite a few of us did, I suppose, but at a cost! The total number of balls lost by the 32 players was 143! The winner of the Bob Skuse trophy (the founder member who won the trophy originally with a score exceeding 20!) was Albert Thrupp with a number of 15 ! Our June date will see the return to Hacienda de Requelme, where our gladiators will once more be put to the test. Our thanks to Captain Tim, vice-Captain Darrell and secretary Mick Lockley who tirelessly to ensure that the day, and evening , runs as smoothly as possible to maximise the members enjoyment.

named champion European sprinter at the 2018 Cartier Racing Awards. Mabs Cross made her seasonal reappearance at Newmarket on May 4, when she defied a 4lb penalty to land the five-furlong G3 Palace House Stakes for the second year in succession. Mabs Cross gained a neck win over Equilateral, with Major Jumbo in third, Sergei Prokofiev fourth, Ornate fifth and El Astronaute sixth. Trainer Michael Dods has also made an entry for Intense Romance, another five-year-old mare who won a handicap over the course and distance last year before going on to Listed wins at Ayr and Ascot. "We have entered Mabs Cross for the Armstrong Aggregates Temple Stakes," said Dods. "Royal Ascot is the priority (G1 King's Stand Stakes, June 18), but the Temple Stakes is sponsored by the Armstrong Group. "As long as we feel she is A1, there is every possibility she could go to Haydock. She has come out of Newmarket very well. "She is a tough horse and takes her racing very well. We are very pleased with her. Her priorities this year will again be Royal Ascot,

York and France, but if she is a ready and right, we will look at having a go at the Temple. "Intense Romance is a proper heavy ground horse. For us to think of Haydock for her, we would need to see proper soft ground," said Dods There is strong overseas representation in the 2019 Armstrong Aggregates Temple Stakes, with seven entries hailing from Ireland and one from France. In addition to Sergei Prokofiev, Ireland's multiple champion Flat trainer Aidan O'Brien, responsible for close second Washington DC last year, could also be represented by G1 Cheveley Park Stakes fifth Gossamer Wings, Listed winner All The King's Men plus San Andreas, The Irish Rover and Fantasy. The other Irish-trained entry is Son Of Rest who was runner-up in the G1 Flying Five Stakes at the Curragh last year before going on to dead-heat in the Ayr Gold Cup Heritage Handicap. The possible French-trained representative is Bakoel Koffie, a Listed winner on his latest start at Fontainebleau in March. Newmarket handler Robert Cowell is renowned

for his handling of sprinters and has entered Pocket Dynamo, runner-up in last season's G2 Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot. Completing the entries are Invincible Army, veteran 10 year old Caspian Prince a G2 winner in 2017, and Tarboosh. The five-day confirmation stage is noon on Monday, May 20. The Armstrong Aggregates Temple Stakes, part of British Champions Series. The main supporting race is the £90,000 G2 Armstrong Aggregates Sandy Lane Stakes, staged over six furlongs for three-year-olds and a leading trial for the G1 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot.

Sports stars and Tattoos - 2019 Japan Rugby World Cup ban SPAIN LEGENDARY GOLFING HERO the late Seve Ballesteros had a tattoo on his left arm after winning the 1984 British Open - one of a plethora of sports stars who've been inked. Jockey Richard Kingscote, who will be one of the leading jockeys during the 2019 Flat season, is proud of his bodyart. "It's an addiction," said Kingscote, 32, who got his first tattoo for his 18th birthday, followed by a second on his 19th birthday. Kingscote, stable jockey to Tom Dascombe, said: "I look at them in the mirror - to admire." Kingscote returned to the saddle in 2015 after sustaining serious injury when suffering two punctured lungs, an elbow broken - in five places - with plates in his left wrist, arm, elbow and right collarbone. Apt tattoos of horses - along with dragons, daggers and water - adorn Kingscote's body: "The colours are fantastic - and I'm proud of the horses on my back," said Kingscote, who says he plans to get 30 tattoos. Kingscote revealed he takes a bit of flack when in the jockeys changing rooms: "Some jockeys try to wind me up - but I'm proud of them," said Kingscote. Golfers, including Bubba Watson’s tattoo “Angie,” celebrated his and his wife's 10-year wedding anniversary. Carly Booth sports a Shakespeare quote tattoo. Rickie Fowler tattoos include his grandfather’s name, Yutaka Tanaka, written in Japanese. Lydia Koo has a tattoo on her right wrist, commemorating her first professional golf win at the Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic, dated April 27, 2014, in Roman numerals.

Twice-world snooker champion and former amateur boxer Mark Williams sports tattoos. In the Asian Cup in January, played in the United Arab Emirates, Chinese players had to wear long-sleeved undershirts beneath their jerseys. Chinese sports officials issued tattoo bans in 2018 from being visible during matches - a directive applying to the national team - along with Chinese players in domestic competitions, including the Chinese Super League. Tattoos are being banned from the Rugby World Cup in Japan in 2019 that begins in September. World Rugby revealed that the 20 teams - along with supporters - will need to cover up tattoos in public places, to avoid causing offence, as tattoos are associated with the Yakuza and Japanese Mafia.

In relegation and criticism CD Montesinos fans 'Keep the Faith' By Andrew Atkinson CD Montesinos's relegation from the Valencia football league 1st Regional G8 - two seasons after gaining promotion - has lead to mixed emotions from supporters from the Los Montesinos, Alicante, based club. But the message echoing from the proud football club town is "Keep the Faith". "After a great start to the 2018-19 season, winning the first two games 4-1, it seemed that continued success of CD Montesinos would be a formality," fan Graeme Jolly told me. "A string of defeats followed; losing key players, injuries and suspensions taking their toll," said Graeme. The club sacked manager Carlos Perez after a poor run of results and vociferous criticism from the terraces - with Ruben appointed on a interim basis.

nutshell - the majority of players were not good enough to play in the 1st Regional," David told me. "Most of them had no passion," said David. Mixed feelings came from the terraces after the appointment of former Youth team coach and player Ruben - although it must be said he was thrown in at the deep end - in a bid to get the club back on track. "The club should never have appointed Ruben as manager. There was no direction, which, to me lead to no heart to play," said David. Comments echoed within the corridors of the club.

"I thought the sacking of the manager was a bit premature - the incoming manager did not stop the rot," reasoned Graeme.

Injury to talisman striker Vazquinho, who missed the campaign's last four games, lead to a lack of firepower up front: "Over the last weeks of the season there was no one up front to finish," said David.

Added to woes, many of the fans felt that poor refereeing cost the club points throughout the season: "The standard of refereeing in general is not good.

A general opinion from fans was that they didn't get the run of 'Lady Luck', needed at all levels in sport: "We had a lot of games when the scores were tight," said David.

"That, along with play acting and deception of the referee, is now becoming the norm," said Graeme.

However, he felt without outstanding goalkeeper Carlos, awarded in the 2018-19 player of the season awards, CD Montesinos would have struggled further.

Graeme underlined views of many of the supporters, adding: "In the last few games I thought CD Montesinos did not show enough passion to escape the dreaded drop. Hopefully things will change going into the 2019-20 season." David Winder, club sponsor and loyal supporter, pulled no punches when criticising a woeful campaign: "I can sum the season up in a

"In many games Carlos made outstanding goalkeeper performances. He has been the saviour - on more than one occasion," said David. Carlos Lorente, who returned to the club this season, also honoured in the season's awards, was also singled out: "Carlos Lorente tried so hard.

"Unfortunately the rest of the team were just mediocre - that's my opinion. The manager was unable to motivate, or be part of a team," added David. CD Montesinos will welcome a new club president during the summer, along with the formation of a new committee. The municipal stadium in Los Montesinos will see CD Montesinos kick off the 2019-20 campaign on a newly laid astro turf pitch. Much consensus was in agreement from comments received - with the never say die attitude - of the loyal Full Monte Supporters club, in re-grouping next season. "Keep the Faith," said David Winder.
