CORVERA’S OPERATING LICENCES WITHDRAWN As local airports continue to make headlines with just about everyone in the area, apart from Murcia’s politicians, questioning the viability and logic of building an airport within an hour's drive of Alicante, the future of Corvera International is being increasingly called into question. The latest development in the ongoing saga is the recent withdrawal by the Murcia Regional Government of Operator Aeromur’s management contract, after it was

concluded that the former Minister of Development, Manuel Campos, had acted irregularly by initially granting it’s authorisation. And what that essentially means is that all the initial airport licensing, which includes safety certification, flight path calibration, as well as a number of other management and operating licenses, are no longer valid and will have to be applied for once again. The Regional Minister for Infrastructure, Francisco Bernabe, said that Aeromur should never have been allowed to apply for certification after their concession had been cancelled. However he also said that his department is now working on a new airport inventory which he hopes will be ready by the end of the month. Once that is concluded a Private Consultant will be engaged to prepare the terms and conditions necessary which will then allow a new round of bidding by companies for the concession to operate the airport. It can only be after this new concessionary appointment has been made, suggested as being toward the end of this year, that necessary licenses may once again be applied for. And of course there will also be one additional difficulty; the new European regulations which took effect in January will also be current, making any application process even more complicated than before. He said that any inventory must be accurate and would be expected to include the current flight levels at San Javier Airport as well as realistic economic projections. He explained that even now the situation regarding the closure of San Javier Airport was still to be resolved, but that his department were currently working with the National Ministry of Development in a joint effort to formalise the situation, as well as drafting the necessary documentation which would outline any necessary compensation as well as its closure, which AENA would be required to sign. The one very important factor that the Minister wouldn’t be drawn on, however, was the continuing development, or otherwise, of the adjacent Paramount Theme Park, the building of which was one of the major issues in the original decision to build the new interna-

All very smart on the surface but will Corvera ever see passengers? tional airport. It is perhaps suggestive that the last “Official Press Release” issued by builders Premursa was 3 years ago in 2012 and that all subsequent news articles issued on their website have expertly avoided giving any sort of opening date for the new facility. We all remember the launch three years ago when Jesus Samper, President of Santa Monica Sports Group and President and CEO of PREMURSA, said that at a cost of 10.5 million € the first park of it’s kind in Europe was aimed at turning the Murcian municipality into a continental reference in the leisure and entertainment field by 2015

But as of today Corvera airport still stands empty. The main entrance to the airport is fenced off, and there is little sign of activity within the airport compound itself, and with the Paramount theme park project seeming to have stalled, and with little argument that San Javier Airport remains a far better location than Corvera for tourists visiting Torrevieja and other popular Costa Calida seaside resorts to the south, we continue to wonder whether Corvera will simply join the country’s many other mothballed airports, testament to the falling passenger numbers and the ongoing economic pressures still being felt by us all.

THE LAST STAND FOR POLITICAL STABILITY

The political situation still remains volatile and inconclusive in many key areas of the Vega Baja, with the groups having until this weekend, June 13th, to decide and confirm what pacts will see governments formed in some town halls. In Orihuela, the legal battles of the past look set to continue into the future after the coastal CLARO party has alleged suspected electoral fraud in the way in which voters were given directions and location allocations in which to vote, on account of them believing that many were confused by the instructions on their ballot papers and simply gave up, ultimately costing CLARO their seat in government. Meanwhile the Partido Popular are still critical of the management of the previous government after it was revealed that the Ministry of Finance had punished Orihuela for not communicating the budgets to them, of course as history has also shown many of the problems surrounding budgets and other important notions was as a result of the continual objection by the PP which effectively paralysed the minority who were in power. A situation now even more confused by the fact that most of the PP members who were in active opposition are no longer part of the group battling to take power through a collaboration, most likely still to be

with the Ciudadanos party. In Torrevieja, the PP mayor, Eduardo Dolón, has publicly stated that the best option for the future of the city is collaboration between his party and the Ciudadanos group. Of course he was not likely to say anything other than that given that both the Los Verdes and the The new leader of the PSOE, Fanny Serrano Rodríguez. The only question that would remain is whether or not clean up the politics of Torrevieja. Meanwhile, the PSOE are still setting out their stall, those parties could work together, as the division of with their new head Fanny Serrano Rodríguez at the departments will inevitably lead to some people gethelm. Swimming lessons for the children of the Orihuela Costa organised by the Municipal Sports Department! We would all agree that they are very important indeed, but why, oh why, are the Costa’s children, from the two schools, CEIP de Orihuela Costa and ÍES Playa Flamenca, being forced to make evening journey’s to Orihuela City, a round trip of 70km, to undergo such training, when we have a perfectly good swimming facility in the Municipal Sports Centre in Playa Flamenca. This is an example of another ridiculous decision by an Orihuela Councillor. Swimming lessons YES, extremely important, but dont’ drag the kids 30 miles down the road by coach for a 50 minute swimming lesson, not getting them back

to the coast until 9.30 pm at night, when there is a perfectly adequate local pool that can be used. Yet another example of the city’s politicians paying nothing more than ‘lip service’ to the people of the Orihuela Costa.

THE POWER OF HEALTH TOURISM IN SPAIN

As waiting lists and high prices at private hospitals and health centres across the world continue to increase a far greater number of people are now taking the option of having their treatments and medical conditions dealt with here in Spain with the latest published records showing a developing global health market that has now topped 7,000 million euro. Led by Mexico, Turkey and Singapore, Spain currently enjoys just 1% of the market although Dr. Luis F. James, founder of Sun Life & Clinic feels that they should be doing much better "This year it is expected that private health tourism patients will represent 500 million euros in direct costs here in Spain, a figure that should easily double by 2020. To that of course we must add the indirect costs, hotels, tourism, transport and food, for the patient and his companions, which is an extremely important market," said Jose Ramon Meco, industry consultant at Deloitte Health. Spain has 455 private hospitals which are responsible for 3.38% of the national wealth, according to IDIS. In Alicante, SHA Wellness Clinic has grown at an annual rate of 20% for the last six years. Medical staff are draws from 35 different countries and of it’s patients 80% are said to be foreign. The reason why Spain is quickly becoming a highly regarded medical community in Europe is because it has lower cost of living yet the standard of living is much higher. The prices vary depending

on the area with the cost of living much higher in the city centers whereas rural areas offer better cost advantage. The costs and standards of health care, subsequently, vary according to the geographic location. The country offers a diverse set of medical treatments which is equivalent to the best of the world, some say it’s better than those in U.K. and with an excellent network of hospitals that are second to no other country. The Spanish medical system also represents every possible medical specialty. Prices for medical treatment in Spain vary depending on the surgery or the corresponding treatment. However, patients can easily expect around 30% to 70% savings. For example, a nose re-shaping in a private U.K. hospital would cost patients anywhere between GBP 3,000 and GBP 4,000, but in Spain the patients can get the same surgery for GBP 2,400. Another example, cosmetic surgery in U.K. is around 60% more than in the Spain, and knee or hip replacements, are around half of the cost in Spain that the patients would pay in the United Kingdom. Since Medical tourism not only involves curing illnesses but also total health rejuvenation, Spain has made a name for itself because of the numerous health spots. Many of the hospitals and clinics are located in some of Spain’s most exotic locations where the soothing warm environment makes a real good ambience for a relaxed recovery after the surgery.

NIGHTCLUB CLOSING DOWN Los Verdes accused Torrevieja Council of breaching its own ruling last week of failing to close down the nightclub located at number 128 de la calle Concordia in Torrevieja. According to ‘the Greens’ the club should have closed 2 weeks ago following the judgment passed by the Ayuntamiento Planning Department on 7th April but it still remains open despite protests by local residents.

VEGA BAJA TRANSPLANT UNIT A Transplant patient was on hand at an Information desk in the Vega Baja Hospital last Tuesday on the occasion of National Transplant Day. He was there in collaboration with the Alicante Association to Fight Kidney Disease (Alcer) who were using the opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of organ donation. The patient spent the day explaining his experience and how he lived through the whole process. The transplant unit began operations in August 1997 and has since conducted a total of 234 organ and tissue extractions, which has enabled more than 300 patients to move away from dialysis treatments.

EL COLEGIO DE HURCHILLO HONOURS LOCAL GRANDPARENTS El colegio de Hurchillo paid tribute to local grandparents last week who help with the education of their grandchildren. Children were asked to bring their grandparents into school where tributes were paid at a general assembly in recognition of the assistance they provide with the education and the upbringing of their grandchildren. Always on the last Friday in May, similar tributes have been held at the school for the last 25 years. The evening event included poetry readings, plays and songs dedicated to the grandparents who help with the education of the ‘new generations’, be it with homework, packing lunches or simply accompanying their grandchildren to and from school. The event was named the Super Grandfather school was Antonio Espinosa Guillen and Superabuela, Lola Torah Vergara. The school management said yesterday that this "is one of the most emotional events conducted by the center, which wants to record the gratitude that the school has all the grandparents'. The Super Grandfather was named as Antonio Espinosa Guillen while Lola Torah Vergara was awarded with the super grandmother prize.

The school headmaster said that ‘this is one of the most emotional events conducted by the center, which feels it

is extremely important to acknowledge and to record the gratitude that the school has to all the grandparents'.

‘EL CAMPICO’ CONTINUES TO TRADE DESPITE COURT JUDGEMENT Guardamar’s ‘El Campico’ market continues to open despite a warning from a rival market manager that he will denounce the Municipal Council for violating a judgment of the Superior Tribunal of Justice (TSJ) in that it has been operating without a license for over 20 years. He alleges that the market, which is located on rural land, is operating outside the law, and does not have permis-

sion to trade. This follows judgments in 2010 ordering its cessation. The manager, who did not wish to be identified to the press, is said to have filed a brief asking the City Council to take appropriate measures ordering its closure following the ruling of the Supreme Court. He says that such businesses operating without a license, harms other markets in the region that do have operating permits and are trading legally.

‘Twitters from the Atlantic’ By Barrie Mahoney Barrie Mahoney was a head teacher and school inspector in the UK, as well as a reporter in Spain, before moving to the Canary Islands to launch and edit a new English language newspaper. He enjoys life in the sun as a columnist and author, and continues to write a series of popular novels, books for expats, as well as designing mobile apps and websites to promote the Canary Islands.

ISLAND PRIDE Visitors to the Canary Island of Gran Canaria may be forgiven for thinking that it is a non-stop party island. The recent successful vote in Ireland for equal marriage, the Eurovision Song Contest and Maspalomas Pride have created an atmosphere of one long, heady party. The Canary Islands are blessed with one of the best climates in the world, which lends itself to an endless succession of parties and outdoor living. However, I can assure readers that we do get down to doing some work as well, but at our own pace. Maspalomas Pride, which is often billed as 'the largest Pride event in Europe', once again drew thousands of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transsexual, and transgendered visitors to the island from all over Europe and further afield. There were also huge numbers of straight visitors too; many having visited in earlier years, and had such a good time that they come again each year to relive and share the experience. Maspalomas Pride is a huge two-week party, with many spin off events, but above all it is a time to demonstrate equal rights, tolerance and equality, as well as a time to remember that respect and acceptance are not concepts yet shared across the world. The rainbow flag remains the centrepiece of the celebrations to remember those people across the world that still suffer from appalling discrimination and cruelty. Maspalomas Pride seeks to celebrate and give thanks for the freedoms enjoyed in Spain and the Canary Islands, as well as other countries that respect this equality. This event was one of the biggest Pride events ever seen on the island, with more than 80,000 visitors

and residents lining the parade route. Visitors often ask me why Gran Canaria, which is the third largest Canary Island by landmass, has become such a draw for gay and lesbian tourists. Gran Canaria has a well-deserved reputation for inclusivity and equality that has embraced gay and lesbian visitors for many years. People of all races, colour and religions live and work on the island and, in the main, happily coexist together. It is an island where the old adage 'live and let live' still strongly applies; as long as your activities don't hurt anyone else, then you are welcome. After visiting the island over many years, this was one of the main reasons that my partner and myself chose to move here; it was a decision that we have never regretted. The Yumbo Centre, which is the main 'gay centre' and the centre for Pride is an uninspiring building, built 40 plus years ago as an arena. Over the years, it was slowly converted and now houses 40 plus gay bars, saunas, drag shows, supermarkets, gadget shops, cafe bars and restaurants. To some, it looks like a badly worn multi-storey car park, which by day is a rather tacky commercial centre. However, by night, this uninspiring heap of concrete transforms itself into a throbbing and lively centre with something for everyone. From its early days, the Yumbo Centre became a beacon of hope for many gay men and women, and a place where they could relax and be themselves. It is a place where many relationships have begun, and ended, but above all it continues to be a place where gay men and women continue to feel safe, welcomed and valued. So how did all this begin? I recall a conversation that I had with an elderly man, an ex-soldier, many years ago when I first visited the island. He told me that during the Spanish Civil War, the dictator, General Franco, would exile any soldier who was found to be gay to

The Party atmosphere of Maspalomas Pride

an island penal colony that was far away from the Spanish mainland; that island was Gran Canaria. As the Pride procession and parties take place, my mind often goes back to this story and the fight for equality that has taken place over the centuries in Spain, as well as elsewhere in the world. The fight for equality and acceptance continue, but I am sure that those exiled Spanish soldiers would be very impressed with the part that this small island in the Atlantic has played in the fight for equality and justice for all. TICKING OFF THE GUARDIA

FOR CIVIL

A vehicle belonging to the Guardia Civil in Pilar de la Horadada had to be abandoned last week when the two officers using it were attacked by fleas while on patrol. They initially thought it was the rural terrain through which they were travelling but when the bites persisted they realized that the vehicle was actually infested. The situation, the second in only a couple of weeks, was immediately denounced by their union, The Unified Association of Civil Guards (AUGC). A spokesman said that this is just one of many occupational hazards faced by Guardia officers and that the vehicle had now been taken out of service subject to its fumigation. One of the agents said he was bitten on the arm on a number of occasions before he realized that the vehicle was infested by fleas. A similar incident was reported just two weeks ago in a vehicle belonging to the Guardia Civil stationed in Fontcalent Prison. The AUGC in Alicante issued a statement saying that they regret the incidents, both of which resulted in injuries to officers, and that they have to work daily in such precarious conditions, whilst the authorities seem to show little care. However sources at the headquarters of the Civil Guard said that they were unaware of the incident in Pilar de la Horadada.

PILAR REA DY FOR SUMMER SEASON The Tourist Information office in Pilar de la Horadada, introduced it’s new summer opening schedule last week at their office in the Plaza Campoamor 2. The department will provide detailed information to anyone visiting the town, 50% of which are expected to be overseas visitors from the UK, Germany and Scandinavia. All statistics will be coordinated and published on the dedicated website www.visitpilardelahoradada.com The Pilareùa Tourism Office moved to the center of town four years ago. It is currently situated on the ground floor of the Town Hall, where it has grown substantially in the number of visitors, from just 6744 in 2012 to 9141 in 2014, an increase of almost 30%. That number is expected to increase once again in the coming season.

ASOCIACION HAPPY ANIMALES SPANIEN "Happy Animales Spanien" is a registered charity which is committed to the welfare of impoverished and abandoned animals. You will find it, 2 or 3 km north of Villamartin on the right hand side of the canal, heading toward San Miguel de Salinas, and believe me, it is well worth a visit.

on hard times. Mona Novak Fassbinder was a regular client, she often rode out and when she began to see a deterioration in the condition of the horses she decided that action must be taken, so together with a few friends, she set about tackling the numerous problems.

Accommodated in outbuildings in and around an old finca the volunteers look after a variety of abandoned and sick animals that would otherwise starve to death or be put down. Currently in their charge there are three ponies, half a dozen horses, two pot bellied pigs, six or seven goats, chickens and a couple of dogs, a number of which are in need of regular medication or medical attention.

Since those early days there have been many developments, the charity has now been formalized, the site secured, and a number of volunteers attend the centre on a regular basis but as the establishment became known to the wider public it also attracted the regular arrival of new animals, most of them also in need of help and medication.

Founded only a couple of years ago, in spring 2013, the charity came about when the owner of a horse riding school located on the site fell

Initially food was purchased for the animals with their own money. The group then embarked on a fund raising mission collecting anything and everything that they could sell on for a profit. Local companies were approached for donations; friends were cajoled into helping, and so began the formation of the Happy Animales Charity.

But the charity’s success brings with it, of course, many additional problems, not least of which is the need for additional funding and volunteers. Financially it survives on donations from members of the public, in

addition to which there is an onsite bbq and entertainment on the last Saturday of every month. When I was shown around the site by Sol last weekend local vocalist Anni Perko was singing to a crowd of about a hundred people who were all enjoying the best of German refreshment and cuisine. “We really do need far more help and funding than we are currently able to attract” she said. “I think that there are many people who simply don’t know that we exist so close to Villamartin so I am hoping that the publicity that you are able to give us in the Leader might help to change all that”. More information, including contact details, is available on their website at HYPERLINK "http://www.happyanimalesspanien.com" www.happyanimalesspanien.com or on Facebook at Finca de San Miguel de Salinas where you will find details of how you can either donate, become a member of the Association, sponsor an animal from just 5 euro a month, or volunteer your time and help. WORLDS OLDEST MURDER MYSTERY Scientists have found evidence of the earliest known homicide in a 4,30,000-year-old human skull in Spain. The fossilized skull discovered deep inside a Spanish cave in the Atapuerca mountains belonged to a primitive member of the Neanderthal lineage. The research was carried out at the archaeological site of the Sima de los Huesos Spanish for 'Pit of the Bones'. The site is located deep within an underground cave system and contains the skeletal remains of at least 28 individuals that lived during the Middle Pleistocene time period. The murder victim suffered two penetrating fractures on the forehead's left side above the eye. The presence fractures of similar size on the frontal bone strongly suggested right-handed member had stuck the skull during a face- to-face conflict and was killed. Paleontologist Nohemi Sala of Madrid's Centro Mixto UCM-ISCIII de Evolucion y Comportamiento Humano said, "This individual was killed in an act of lethal interpersonal violence, providing a window into an often-invisible aspect of the social life of our human ancestors. In the fossil record, there are many cases of traumatic injury, but not a lot of evidence of killing". Sala and her colleagues identify them as members of the species Homo heidelbergensis, an early human ancestor that gave rise to the Neanderthals. The researchers interpreted the wounds, each nearly an inch (2 cm) wide by using forensic methods like those employed by police. The wounds are the evidence of bluntforce trauma that occurred around the time of death. The body was then dropped down a 43-foot shaft into a cave, where it lay for nearly half a million years.

ORIHUELA FIRE Four hectares of forest were destroyed in a fire at the weekend in the small Orihuela hamlet of Raiguero Oriolana Levante. The origin is thought to be an uninhabited house in the area known as La Rivera, at kilometer 682 on the N340. The fire was discovered by a national Police patrol who were making their routine tour of the rural area, who in turn alerted the emergency services.

SCHOOL PROTEST A human chain was formed by members of the Association of Parents (AMPA) at del colegio público Antonio Sequeros in Benejuzar last week in protest at the Ministry of Education’s decision to introduce part time school hours for the children through to the summer holiday break. ENJOY 4 STAR BARCELONA CITY BY TRAIN Travel by train to this large, lively, exciting coastal city. Visit all the exciting places that you have heard of! See the thought provoking buildings of Antonio Gaudi. His masterpiece of course being the "unfinished cathedral" which was built in the late 19th century as a tribute to the coming 20th century, and still remains unfinished in the 21st century, but what a stunning piece of architecture it is. Then, marvel at the wonderful Camp Nou football stadium, home to the mighty Barcelona football club and a whole range of other sporting teams, basketball, volley ball, base ball and so on. Then on the outskirts, you have the university parks centred round the old Royal Palace. Then there is the mountain of the Jews (Montjuic), with a castle overlooking the bay. Cable cars sweep across from here to the port and beyond. The 1992 Olympics were held in Barcelona and the city still benefits from the superb facilities built for this event. In the Marina hundreds of small yachts bob up and down in the waves created by passing mini cruisers which are packed with happy sightseers. In the nearby "Rambla" clearly the best known street in Spain, passers by are entertained by an incredible variety of performers, busking for an income. This ranges from highly talented to outright zany. Flower vendors and artists compete with the entertainers for the many thousands of euros, which pass hands every day in this street. CAR HIRE CONFUSION AS PAPER DRIVING LICENCE SCRAPPED GEM Motoring Assist is warning drivers of holiday car hire confusion and delay when the paper counterpart driving licence becomes obsolete today Monday (8 June 2015). The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) is scrapping the paper counterpart licence that accompanies all plastic photocard licences. This means information about penalty points can only be accessed online, by phone or through the post from DVLA. Anyone hiring a car will need to log in online at the DVLA (www.viewdrivingrecord.service.gov.uk) to generate a licence check code. This will be valid for 72 hours and should be given to the hire company who will be able to access driver details. To access the site, drivers will need to provide their driving licence number, post code and national insurance number. GEM chief executive David Williams MBE says: “We predict long car hire delays, particularly at overseas holiday destinations, simply because many car hire firms are going to be unaware of the changes and are likely to want to examine a paper document, even though it will not be valid. “The scrapping of the paper licence gives already stressed holidaymakers one more task to remember before setting off. Worse still, if they’re not hiring a car until later in their holiday, they will be forced to find internet access at their foreign destination, something that could be expensive as well as inconvenient. “Our advice is to obtain the licence check code as instructed by DVLA, but also to keep the paper counterpart licence as a back-up when you travel, even though it will have no legal status. After all, if a rental desk is unfamiliar with the new rules, then producing your counterpart paper licence might be the only way for you to get behind the wheel of your holiday rental vehicle.”

Ford Anglia Delux

Paper driving licences issued before the photocard was introduced in 1998 will remain valid. Follow GEM on Twitter @MotoringAssist for the latest industry news.

112 - THE ‘ONE STOP’ EMERGENCY TELEPHONE NUMBER

If you are unfortunate to find yourself in a life threatening situation, whatever your emergency, be it the need for the police, fire, ambulance, coast guard, one number is all you need from any fixed or mobile phone, the number 112. During the month of May, the 112 Emergency Coordination Centre for the Valencia region handled 264,635 calls, and managed a total of 54 496 incidents. Of the total number of incidents managed, 27 652 were in the province of Valencia, 20,312 in Alicante and 5,916 in Castellon, the remaining 616 from neighbouring regions which were transferred to the appropriate emergency centres. The majority of incidents were health related, with 32,268 calls, followed by 8,188 incidents relating to public safety. There were 2,490 traffic related incidents, 1,739 fires and 1,353 related to the environment. The 112 number is a European wide initiative and your call can be

dealt with in your own native language. For example, in May, the Valencia centre dealt with 1,358 incidents which were reported in other languages, 705 of which were in English, 114 in German and 83 in French. The 112 number is a European standard number. It is also standard on mobile phones and will work even if the phone is locked. The numbers were first chosen as being beneficial partly because using two different numbers reduced the possibility of accidental dialling. It was for this reason that the German police changed their emergency number to force a different key press, for example. Another benefit was for the old style rotary diallers. Many phone owners chose to lock the dial to prevent misuse, by putting the lock in hole number 3 meant that the emergency number could still be dialled by anybody without a key. Whatever your emergency and wherever you might be, the one number to remember is 112, because your call will always be answered

NINE ARRESTS AT LOCAL AIRPORTS Officers from the Guardia Civil have arrested nine people, eight of them male and one woman, all aged between 22 and 42 and of Romanian nationality, believed to be involved in a series of robberies from foreign travellers arriving at Alicante-Elche and Murcia San Javier airports. The information released on Monday reveals that the arrests occurred late last month in the towns of Guardamar del Segura and Formentera after the investigation began in April when officers became aware of a series of robberies with similarities. The gang would track and follow their victims, mainly early in the evening, using rental vehicles that frequently changed, thus hindering surveillance. Upon following their victims to their destination the gang would then rob them of their belongings, often unseen. During the course of the investigation officers identified the group as being responsible for robberies on the Orihuela Costa, Torrevieja, Algorfa, San Miguel de Salinas, Calpe and La Manga del Mar Menor. During the raids of the homes the officers recovered several bags, a mobile phone and 1,150 euro in cash that corresponded to items stolen in robberies. The detainees have been brought before the courts in Orihuela for processing.

TR AFFIC OFFICER INJURED A Guardia Civil traffic officer was injured on Wednesday in the Canillas de Abajo area, when assisting a motorist who had broken down. The incident occurred at 11:00 on the A-62 in the Salamanca direction when the officer went to assist the stranded motorist. As the officer approached the vehicle the radiator exploded and sprayed antifreeze into his face, resulting in him ingesting some of the toxic material. Medics treated the 40 year old officer at the scene before transferring him to the hospital in the city of Salamanca for further treatment.

and dealt with by a team of professionals, in your own language, who will coordinate the emergency, whatever it might be. The only other piece of advice which needs to be considered is to know where you are if possible. Giving as much location information to the call operator will make for a quicker response.

FORGOTTEN PENSIONS – ANOTHER REASON RELOCATING BRITS NEED A FINANCIAL CHECK-UP Migrating Brits have been reminded why a thorough financial ‘check-up’ before leaving the UK could save them thousands of pounds, following the revelation that up to £850million-worth of pension benefits currently go unclaimed by retired expats, said OverseasGuidesCompany.com in June. “It’s not unknown for people to end their working life not realising they have one or more pensions set up by different employers, usually from a job they had years before,” said Elaine Ferguson, Head of the Resource Centre at OverseasGuidesCompany.com. “The change in pension rules this year prompted research into this by pension firms and now the true extent of the

situation has come to light – an estimated 250,000 retired Brits are not claiming a pension they are entitled to but probably do not realise they have. “However, it is not only poor planning with pensions where Brits moving abroad can lose money unnecessarily. Many are unaware that they could be entitled to income tax refunds, depending on their position for the full tax year at the point of departing the UK, and their allowances. Or, if they retain a rental property in the UK, they may not realise the tax savings they can make by entering the Non-Resident Landlord Scheme. There are also the benefits of using a specialist currency exchange firm to move money between the UK and abroad – again, something so many expats still disregard.

“When it comes to financial planning, preparation is especially important for people with plans to leave the UK as it is far easier to organise things before leaving the country, than to try to change things once you are no longer a tax resident here. As with most things, speaking to a qualified financial advisor, who could highlight these and other points, could benefit you hugely.”

DOLPHIN AND ALBATROS JOIN INTERNATIONAL AIRWAVES Both the Amateur Radio Association of the Vega Baja (URE), and the Spanish Amateur Radio Union association (LRIs), composed mostly of local amateurs, spent the weekend transmitting from the submarine "S-61 Dolphin" and the Patrol Boat "Albatros III in the Torrevieja Marina. The broadcasts were in celebration of ‘Ship Museum Weekend’ which was organised by the Amateur Radio Station of the US Battleship New Jersey together with the cooperation of the City of Torrevieja. The aim of the weekend was to make contact with as many other museum ships and amateur radio stations across the world as possible, which they did with transmissions reaching over a hundred countries. Local operators say that contacts they made during the weekend will now enable them to draw a map of historic vessels that can be found throughout the world

The "Dolphin S-61" is 58 meters long, with capacity for 60 crew. It was given to the city of Torrevieja by the Ministry of Defence and first entered service as a Ship Museum in 2004. Moored adjacent to the Dolphin is the 32 meter patrol boat "Albatros III” a former Marine Customs Surveillance vessel.

BALED OUT

MERRIMENT AND MELODY In Support of AMMA Campoverde Theatre Group has a really great show for you, good music, great dance numbers and lots of very funny sketches. ‘Let Us Entertain You’ is a fast paced show will keep you entertained and smiling and will have you singing along with some of the well known numbers. The show is full of colour, comedy and choreography, basically a show that has something for everybody. The show promises to be a really entertaining evening out.

Portugal footballer Cristiano Ronaldo could leave Real Madrid this summer, after reportedly being miffed over club president Florentino Perez's growing closeness with teammate Gareth Bale. Spanish publication Don Balón has claimed that Carlo Ancelotti’s exit, the cooling relations between Ronaldo and Perez, the hiring of Rafa Benitez as manager and Perez’s unrelenting support for Bale have been the major issues which have unsettled the two-time FIFA Baloon D’Or winner.

RAPID REACTION

The ladies of L A Line Dancers, based in Los Alcázares, donated an amazing 1800 to DEBRA Spain, which is the national charity working on behalf of people in Spain with the genetic skin blistering condition Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB). Founded in 1993, DEBRA Spain (the Butterfly children charity) is a non-governmental organisation formed by people with EB, a team of social and health professionals specialised in EB, as well as friends and collaborators. Butterfly Skin is the common name for Epidermolysis Bullosa or EB, a very rare genetic condition in which the skin and internal body linings blister at the slightest knock or rub, causing painful, open wounds. EB is likely to affect 1 in 17,000 live births and it is estimated that there are currently 1000 people with the condition in Spain. Because EB is an inherited condition (it cannot be caught), which is passed on genetically from parents to children, first time parents often do not know that they are carriers and will have no prior warning that the child will be affected, until birth. The condition has a number of distinct forms. In its least severe forms, the blistering is confined to the hands and feet making holding things and walking extremely painful. In more severe forms all the

body is affected and the wounds heal very slowly, giving rise to scarring, physical deformity and significant disability. For many affected by the condition, the blistering is not limited to the skin but also affects the inner body linings such as the mouth and oesophagus. The eating of solids is, in these cases, almost impossible, and the disposal of the body waste incredibly painful. When this condition applies, malnutrition is often a consequence, further reducing the body's resistance to infection. People with the more severe types of EB also have an exceptionally high risk of developing skin cancers, shortening their lives by approximately 30-40 years. In its most severe form, the condition is fatal in infancy. Whilst considerable progress has been made in recent years in understanding EB and identifying the genes that cause the condition, there is as yet no effective treatment or a cure. To find out more, visit the DEBRA Spain website: www.pieldemariposa.es Led by Diane Daniels, the L A Dancers meet once a week at The Arches, Urb. Oasis, Los Alcázares and always welcome new members. Email: dipetediamonds@yahoo.co.uk for further information.

Campoverde Theatre Group hope to raise lots of money for AMMA, the Alzheimer’s Mar Menor Association, a new charity aimed at providing a much needed day care service for people suffering from Alzheimer’s, an illness that not only affects the sufferer, but also their carers, who become increasingly more and more socially isolated as their loved one deteriorates. Unlike other Alzheimer’s groups, AMMA provides day care in both English and Spanish. As everyone appreciates, it is essential that people suffering from this progressive disease are communicated with in a language they understand. AMMA accepts clients from a wide area, including Orihuela Costa and it will also accept people with severe Alzheimer’s. Come along to the Casa De Cultura, San Miguel de Salinas on either Friday 19th, Saturday 20th or Sunday 21st June and have a really fabulous night of entertainment whilst supporting a really good cause. Tickets available from Bargain Books, San Miguel or phone Jude on 96 684 4460 or 676 557 104.

NEW EVENING ART CLASS IN BENIJOFAR. Suzanne Stokes, who has been teaching art for more than ten years in the Quesada area, is considering starting a new evening class on Monday evenings at Restaurant Catorce in Benijofar. ‘Beginners are welcome’ said Suzanne, ‘because I work with everyone individually, initially teaching them how to observe, and to draw accurately. All drawing materials and projects are provided for the first few weeks, after which people can begin to try other mediums before deciding how they want to progress.’ Please contact Suzanne on 680 961 025 or see her website www.sue-stokes.co.uk for more details and please let her know if you are interested in the evening class. Suzanne also runs classes at PALS Social Club, La Siesta, on Monday mornings, and at La Herradura Restaurant (next to the REPSOL garage) in Los Montesinos on Thursday mornings, where an exhibition of her own work is on display.

Spain has agreed to host a US rapid reaction military force to deal with crises in Africa, Europe and the Middle East. The deal will allow 2,200 US troops and 500 civilian staff to be permanently stationed near the city of Seville. They will be able to launch missions to protect their embassies, rescue US citizens and intervene in military conflicts and humanitarian crises. The Moron air base in southern Spain already hosts 850 US troops.

ILLICIT TOBACCO TRADE The World Health Organisation (WHO) highlighted the strong commitment to the fight against tobacco made and maintained by Spain - the first European country alongside Austria to ratify the WHO Protocol against the Illicit Trade in Tobacco Products. The recognition was embodied in two medals: one collected by the Director of the Spanish Tax Agency, Santiago Menéndez; and a second collected by the General Secretary for Healthcare and Consumer Affairs, Rubén Moreno.

The Royal British Legion Legionnaires Bowls Group held two pleasurable events at its home ground, Casa Ventura, recently. One event involving Caps and the other a Hand. For the one, new caps were donated to the members of the Legionnaires by sponsors Kuts & Klaws and they were kindly presented by Karl Blain, proprietor of Kuts & Klaws. The caps bear the RBL crown and lion logo with the name 'Legionnaires' arched above it. They will greatly enhance what is already a very smart kit worn by Legionnaires members. The other event was what has become an annual knockout singles trophy competition involving some six or more rounds of bowls to determine one eventual outright winner, the winner then being entitled to hold the very handsome Rita Hand Trophy for one year. This year's

winner was Peter Cox, who was presented with the trophy by Rita Hand in person. Barry Edwards, the runner up this year, received a trophy cup, suitably engraved in recognition of his win last year. One photograph shows Rita Hand presenting the trophy to Peter Cox and the other shows some of The Legionnaires Group members sporting their new caps and visors, with Karl Blain, centre right, receiving a thankful handshake from Captain, Brenda Brown. Whether experienced or absolute novice, new members are always welcome to play with The Legionnaires Group, which regularly meets on Thursday and Saturday afternoons, 1:30 for 2:00 p.m. at Casa Ventura, San Luis. Just come along or contact the Secretary, Harry Epsom, on 966849075, a warm welcome will await you.

GREENLANDS BOWLS CLUB Jasmines maintained top spot in A div of the federation VCL last Weds, when they achieved a very creditable 6-6 draw at San Luis. Against a highly experienced Lions team, all 5 rinks couldn't have been closer. Although the rinks, pairs and mens singles just lost by 1, 2 and 4 shots respectively, victories for Sandra Heath in the ladies singles (21-16), and the trips team of Sue Johnson, Mel Brown and Barry Collins (19-13), secured an overall shots difference of 89-85. Not to be outdone, Mimosas emulated that result, as they battled hard at home to Emerald Isles Barons in C div. Phil Lockley led the way as he recorded a 21-18 triumph in the mens sin-

BY STEVE HIBBERD gles, whilst victories for Jean & Dave Giddings plus Dave Webb in the trips (28-14), and the rinks team of Dave Fryatt, Dave Thompson, John Wray and Vic Mahomet (17-16), earned 6 points. Unfortunately, come Fri, SABA summer trips league failed to reach the same heights for GBC. Glosters almost pulled of a victory against La Marina Pilots in Hurricane div, as they won on 3 rinks, but just fell short on overall shots, eventually losing 6-8. Well done: Ron Stansfield, Dave Thompson, Jim Oliver 2012. Heather Meston, Mary Lockley, John Wray 15-10. Phil Lockley, Jim McLean, John O'Brian 20-15. Gladiators visited QBC for their match in Spitfire div, but came away empty handed.

EL RANCHO BOWLS CLUB With just the one match this week, in the Harrier league, when we entertained Emerald Isle Vulcans and a splendid morning it was. We had great company and some good bowls to boot, but as we know winning does not mean that as an individual we have played well and losing, even by a large score does not mean that we did not play well. It mainly comes down to who we play with and against, with the odd bit of luck thrown in too, the main thing is that we enjoy the company. We did however take 4 rinks, always a good result and fell just short on the overall shots. Edward Elsam, Ron Edwards and John Newell 2019. Bob Easthope, Malc Sykes and David Whitworth 23-9. Trish Elsam, Mick Ager and Shirley Edwards 3-29. June Whitworth, Sheila cooper and Carolyn Harris 25-15. Terry Buswell, Jane Hamill and Stew Hamill 20-19. Both semi's were brilliantly played by all teams, the winners being the two from Vistabella teams. The Final was played on a rink which hadn't been played on for the duration of the competition, it was a shame as the final was not as thrilling as the semi's, the same for Ian & Eric's teams but never the less a difficult rink.

Also on 39 pts but losing out on a count back were Nick Campbell and Yvonne Phipps. There was only a small turn out for our weekly stableford on Wednesday as maintenance work was being carried out on the greens which meant that we had to play the front nine twice. The winner was Bryan Neal with 38 pts beating Linda Steptoe on a count back. On Friday with the greens still undergoing maintenance we played a 4 ball Texas Scramble. It was no surprise that the winning team were Geoff Biggerstaff, Bryan Neal, Rod Doel and Club Professional Jose Maria Buendia returning a score of 55.2 which included 10 birdies. In second place with a score of 59.5 were Ron Phipps, Alan Douglas, Nick Campbell and Marleen Billen.

COSTA BLANCA LEAGUE RE TAIN GARAY CUP

This was the eleventh annual tournament between the two golf league teams since its inauguration in 2004 and each league has won the same amount of matches five each. It was played at Bonalba Golf Resort where 18 players represented their respective League. The competition was originally suggested and sponsored by Snr. Manolo Garay So this year the competition as it would break the year long deadlock The Bonalba course is always a challenging course and since its improvement sthe course, is an ideal venue although a Home course for Costa Blanca North. The format was Fourball Better Ball Matchplay with the lowest handicap giving shots a 90% difference of the handicaps It was a perfect day for golf with the temperatures a little down from the norm for the end of May, but very welcome by both teams As the scores show there was not a lot to choose between the two teams as is nearly always the case

in these annual competitions and for the Vega Baja Premier Golf League to come up short by a single and the ladies two of them representing the VBPGL came through both on the winning team. Results (Vega Baja League Names only) Robin Fish & Ian Hunt lost 3&2 Bill Martin & Malcolm Anderson won 4&2 Les Lane & Marin Oakley won 4&2 Martin Archer & Ray Millgate won 4&2 Mick Brentnall & Barbara Hitchings win 1up Bill Gemmell & Paul Edwards All square Geoff Wild & Flo Von Carlowitz won 1 up Seamus Martin & Dominic Downey lost 3&1 FINAL SCORE: CBGL 4.5 VBPGL 3.5 The tournament sponsor Manolo Garay also put up prizes and presented by Ivie Davies Secretary of VBPGL for the Nearest the Pin and Longest drive the result of were: NEAREST THE PIN: Hole 4: Steve Robison (CBGL) Hole 8: Malcolm Anderson (VBPGL), Hole 11: Mike Davison (CBGL) Hole 16: Dennis Pyman (CBGL)....LONGEST DRIVE:

T.M.G.S. Visit to Las Colinas

Las Colinas is not on our frequent visits list, and after today’s visit I remember why. Yes it is in great condition and yes with the low season discount price it’s more affordable, but it’s no wonder that they have Sat/nav fitted to the buggies because you need it to find your way from hole to hole, and if you happen to have an invalidity certificate they very kindly adjust the “sat/nav” so that you can drive on the fairways and get closer to the greens, except when you get there the bloody thing stops and tells you to return to the pathway IN REVERSE! Added to that you also get the on board running commentary, which, by the time you’ve reached the 6th hole, you trying to find the button to turn it off! Seriously though this is one of the shortest courses (tee to green) but due to the lengthy trips between holes the round turns out to be nearer to 6 hours than 4 hours. Results for today’s competition, 28 members and guests turned up for another early start of 9am, this had the advantage of playing before it got too hot (late afternoon was 28º) and with 5 par 3´s the “2´s” pot was looking vulnerable and rightly so, Mick Kennedy had a “2” on hole 7 and John Mellor and Joe Dean managed to hole their second shots on the 10th.to take home a share of the €18 in the pot. We categorize our N.T.P.´s so that everyone gets a chance to win a prize, however it can cause some confusion when players are so excited to be on the green that even while they write their name on the pin they fail to see that it isn´t for their category, this was the case on the 5th when a visitor claimed it but it wasn´t his hole so no prize could be awarded. The 7th hole was won by new member Kjell Johnsen in the Silver category. Hole 10; any competitor, Joe Dean, Hole 14; Gold Category, John Whitaker, Hole 17; any competitor, Joe Dean. Silver Category Winners; 3rd Roger Nilsen, 31 pts. 2nd Audrey Mellor, 32 pts. 1st John Hillier 34 pts. Gold Category; 3rd and in the prizes for the last time this year, as he leaves for the UK on Saturday, 31 pts. 2nd Kjell Aasebo 32 pts. and 1st with 33 pts. Tove Røed. Photo: Gold category winners. Our next Competition is Wednesday 10th June at La Finca, so if you fancy a game with a multinational Society call the Secretary on 661 524 101 or visit www.tmgs.org Fancy a weekend game? El Paraiso are playing at La Marquesa on the Sunday 14th June for more info visit www.clubdegolfelparaiso.com

The VBPGL team lost by a single point Hole 15: Mark ‘Taff’ Reynolds (CBGL) As always the matches were played in the best of spirit and both teams stated how much they enjoyed the day and the major benefit they get to play with other golfers they would not normally come into contact with on the golf course, and this can only be good for both of these Leagues and golf. Thanks should go to players of the VBPGL who had an early start and travelled from the Costa Calida. The Manolo Garay presented Richard Davis

Captain of the CBGL with the trophy which means they are now 6 games to 5 in the overall tournaments. Ivie Davies thanked both teams for the good spirit in which the competition had been played and to Richard Davis and all the staff at Bonalba Golf Resort for ensuring the course was in good condition and their support in providing Tappas and bevergaes. For more information go to www.vegabajapremiergolfleague.com and Facebook.

ROCKET'S GOLF SOCIETY, ALICANTE GOLF Our visit to this delightful course it was in very condition but there were tee boxes and some of the greens with TLC going on. Due to the tinning of the greens were a tad slow and not easy to read but they did not deter our talented members. The competition on the day was that mind boggling game of ‘MedFord’, Medal on the front nine and Stableford on the back nine. It has to be said there was some good scoring in both categories despite the varying conditions. RESULTS - GOLD CATEGORY 1st Ron Swift 21 Nett, 2nd Malcolm Anderson 22 pts, 3rd Rod Smith 31 pts SILVER CATEGORY 1st Ron Nicholson 21 Nett, 2nd Barney Hickey 22 Nett-CB, 3rd Athur Williams 22 Nett NEAREST PINS: Hole 3: Arthur Williams Hole 6: Malcolm Anderson Hole 8: Alan Clifford, Hole 12: Ken Hopkins Hole 15: Tom Richardson, Hole 17 Geoff Wild LONGEST DRIVE: Ron Swift. BEST GUEST: Andy Drinkall So it was back to Izzy’s Bar for the celebrated Lynns munchies (that’s her chips and sarnies by the way) and Jackie and Tony’s hospitality. Next home game is back at Vistabella on Tuesday 9th June. First Tee 09:00. So be at the restaurant by 08:15. Put a note in your diary for thje The Nicholson Trophy at El Plantio on the 16th June and of course the legendary “Arthurs Birthday Bash”.

So get you name down on the website or phone/email Rocket. For more information or if you wish to play with arguably the friendliest Golf Society contact Ron Nicholson on 678 849 142 or email sanmigron@gmail.com . The photo shows the Silver Winners: Ron Nicholson – Barney Hickey – Arthur Williams.

RUBY'S GOLF SOCIETY, THE ANDREW KELSO MEMORIAL DAY

It is pretty daunting to tee off in front of a big crowd and even more daunting for Steve (Andrews partner and owner of the Med Bar in El Raso) who has never played golf before, however he wanted to hit the first ball to get the day under way and he did not disappoint, despite a small mishap the first ball soared away and so did the day, with fine weather and 28 players the day got under way at Vistabella with everyone getting stuck into the task of winning the 1st Andrew Kelso memorial Trophy, all the other usual prizes were on offer and nearest the pins on the Par 3's were Buck Taylor and Vice Cap't Theresa who also won the ladies longest drive. Nearest the pin in two was Alan Cronin, nearest the pin in 3 was Rob

Vaughan, best front nine was John Goulder and best back nine was Colin Fear, Runner up for the big prize was Theresa Wright, and this years Memorial Trophy went to (but only just on count back) to Jim Mc Carthy. Back at the Med Bar where Steve had put on a massive buffet meal the presentations took place and the football cards were won by Chris Lusty and Vice Theresa, and a great night was had by all, and a big thank you to Steve and the Med Bar for looking after us so well. Our next outing is at El Plantio, if you require any information regarding this or any other fixture please contact us at rubysgolf@:yahoo.com

‘MIKE PROBERT TALKS GOLF (Sponsored by Costa Blanca Green Fee Services). Here on the Costa’s golf is one of the biggest leisure time activities for both tourists and resident alike and with this in mind we have secured the services of Mike Probert of Costa Blanca Green Fee Services to provide a weekly round up of local golfing events and topics and in conjunction with us at THE LEADER will provide discounted golf prices to all of our readers and run our golf competitions. ‘Nutrition ’ Just how serious are you about your golf? Would you change your diet and avoid eating some of your favourite ‘junk food’ to improve your golf game? If you would then this article is for you. I can’t plan your diet for you because we are all different, however there are some foods that are not conducive to good health, energy and stamina. To improve your diet you should eat foods that are high in nutrition but low in fat, such as, vegetables, fruit, turkey, whole grains, baked or boiled fish, skimmed milk, and egg whites. rice and fruit juices. Unfortunately this means dumping some of your favourite foods which are loaded with empty calories, such as, pizza, ice cream, cheese cake, red meat, fried chicken, fried fish, gravy, chips, ham and soft drinks. Getting withdrawal symptoms already? Remember that good nuitrition, including plenty of water is fundamental to success, especially under difficult and trying conditions, such as excessive temperatures and humidity. Here are some dietary do’s and don’ts in prep for and during the round: Don’t play on a full stomach (allow 2 hours for food to digest). Do drink plenty of water before and during the round. Do carry food nutrition bars for instant energy. Do use sports drinks to help avoid dehydration. Do eat apples and bananas for energy. Don’t eat chocolate during the round (avoids sugar highs). Don’t eat heavy foods like burgers & hotdogs (they cause lethargy). Don’t eat late meals (allow time for food to settle before you lie down). Don’t eat desserts (replace these with fruit or frozen yoghurt). In general limit the amount of your sugar and salt intake. Remember that a little bit of what you fancy does you good and a little bit of fat helps you maintain your weight but don’t overdo it and get carried away. Nobody can tell you what to eat but we are all aware that not all foods are healthy for you. You will decide when the time is right for you to eat healthier but for the majority of people they feel better for it and on the golf course you will discover that you do not tire as easily late in the round and that your thinking will remain consistent and clear for the whole round.

IAN CAWTHRA MEMORIAL TROPHY @ El Valle on Tuesday 2nd June This newly formed golf society all gathered to play this annual event in memory of Ian Cawthra at its new golf society and location. The Cawthra family would like to thank every member of ALL societies who turned out to remember Ian and play in his memory, it was nice to see some familiar faces, only a shame some former members and friends of Ian could not put the politics aside and join us this year. We arrived at El Valle with the sun shining down and very little wind which rewarded us with a beautiful day for golf. We played a pairs Texas scramble which is traditional for this event, it being the event that was played when we heard the sad news. The only problem with the day was that they was a mix up with the buggies and four members had to walk, so thanks to Chris, Kedric, Alan and Nigel for volunteering to walk. We all met on the terrace at the golf course for a pre game drink to the memory of not only Ian but all the close family and friends we have lost of late. Then the instructions we given and all set off to have a wonderful game of golf. We all returned back to our home base The Orange Tree Bar and Restaurant in Cabo Roig for the presentation and the wonderful buffet provided by the Orange Tree. Thanks must go to Chris, Lilly, Brian, Katie, Gareth and Keva for providing this and the excellent service and making the day even more special. We then made the presentation to the winners, thanks must also go to our sponsors for the day for providing prizes for the winners and the after presentation raffle. Namely The Orange Tree, Bar Liquid, O´Riordans Irish Bar, Mike the grip and the Cawthra family who gave a bottle of wine to every player in Ian´s memory. The winners of the trophy this year were Donnie McCleod and Jim Ayres with a nett score of 64.7, 2nd were Chris Blown and Alan Mustard with 65.3 and 3rd Nigel Cawthra and Kedric Rhodes with 68.4. NTP,s went to

Bryan Pike, Dave Eadington, Donnie McCleod, Jim Ayres, Pete Cowan, Donnie McCleod again and Roger Lyles. The Cawthra family would like to thank all for the great day and kind words. The next society event is on Tuesday 16th June at Mar Menor, all golfers of any standard are welcome. Jim Sullivan playing his last game before returning home to The UK, showed us all how to play the course winning the day with 39 pt's having a great back nine of 22 pt's. Looking forward to his return in September to advise him of his new handicap. Well done Jim. We played full handicap stableford, four ntp's and usual two's pot. Results were pins. No 5 Dave Naylor, No 6 Ray Pryce, No 10 No return, No 15 Sophie. The Two's pot was won by Ollie Teahan. Sophie won the raffle. EVA BOWS OUT AT ROLAND GARROS For the first time in their history, Torrevieja Tennis Club, had a representative at the French Open last week, playing in the Junior Girls Competition on the world famous tennis courts at Roland Garros. Eva Guerrero, at just 15 years of age, a member of the academy Equelite Villena Juan Carlos Ferrero, received an invitation following her victory in the Grade 1 ITF tournament, which catapulted her to number 52 in the world junior rankings and saw her achieve the pass to junior main draw in the Paris Grand Slam. Tuesday Euromillions Jackpot 110 million euro

The Cadena Sunrise Tenpin Bowling League reached it's conclusion last Wednesday, and what an exciting final day it proved to be. Going into the last round of matches, Sol Amigos (sponsored by Petra Honig Inmobiliaria) led by 2 points, ahead of Alley Gators, Fowl Play and GGs Pinbusters. Maximum point victories for GGs Pinbusters, and Fowl Play (against Alley Gators), meant that Sol Amigos needed at least a draw to be sure of the championship, and they delivered in style, by also recording an 8-0 win. Fowl Play and GGs Pinbusters leapfrogged Alley Gators, to finish 2nd and 3rd respectively, which was a cruel blow to AGs, who had led for the vast majority of the season. The season commenced way back in September last year, requiring all 12 teams to play each other 3 times. Sol Amigos line up in the photo are, from left to right: Brian Tomlin, captain Barry Tolson, Steve Hibberd, Terry Bell, Maria Perez and Tony Vivers. Full results and table from the final week, will be published in next week The Leader.
