STAFF REPORTER Last weekend, the popular eighteen year old Katie Salmon passed away in her sleep from sudden death syndrome, leaving a huge void in the life of her parents and her many friends. Since that sad day the tributes have absolutely poured in and the local community have shown once again that they really do care as they have pulled together to assist her parents in their time of grief. The response has been overwhelming and continues to be

so even as we go to press. Katie, at a very young age, has left her mark on this community and her memory will live forever in the hearts of those who knew her, as well as those many others who, despite never having the privilege of meeting her, will remember her fondly through her wonderful stage performances. A touching and poignant tribute to a girl who was only 18 years old. Her funeral was held on Friday, 24th July at the Cabo Roig church and the packed congregation reflected the influence Katie had on the community in such a short life. Continued on Page 2

People from all walks of life came to say their farewells and respected the request for bright colours – Katie had a love of the cartoon character Minions. Her parents respectfully requested no flowers and for donations to be made to MABS Cancer Support Group, Katie’s favourite charity here on the Costa Blanca. To ensure that this popuar young lady has the ‘send off’ she deserves, a number of fund raising events have been taking place across the Costa. The first was held at ‘The Local’ in La Florida on Thursday, 23rd July. Within 3 days of Katie’s passing, local entertainer Richie Alexander had organised the event to help with those urgent expenses. All those who attended were deeply moved – even those who had never met Katie, and with the help of Derek and Irene, an incredible 5,000 Euro was raised in just a single afternoon. The Local contributed all of their profits from drinks etc served during the event from 2pm to 6pm, staff worked for free and local entertainers, such as Richie Alexander, Nikki G, Stevie Spitt, Sunflower Valley, Paul Cullen and many more, gave their services absolutely free. There was even a moving performance from the Matrix Studio Choir which Katie had enjoyed being part of. The fund raising events continued over the weekend at the Matrixstudio Madhouse where the Matrix Studio Choir is based when, on Sunday, 26th July, a further fund raising extravaganza was held. Indeed, so profound is the mark that Katie has left on this community that both tributes to her life and funds to be used in her memory, continued to pour in with Sunday’s packed function attracting many more contributions and tributes. Local entertainers once again pro-

Many of those who knew Katie shared their sorrow on Facebook with dozens of messages being posted in her memory all week.......here we share with you the thoughts of many of those people who have been so touched and saddened by Katie´s passing: “Today we said our final goodbye’s to Katie but it wasn’t a sad day at all, I mean how many funerals do you go to where you end up dancing to the time warp at the end? And that was Katie, she just knew how to light up a room and put a smile on everyone’s faces.” “There were many tears shed but mainly they were tears of joy and even a few giggles.” “The service was lovely and I feel so blessed to have known such a lovely young lady and you can see with the outcome of people at her fundraiser yesterday and her funeral today that she had touched so many people!” “Though we’ve said goodbye, her spirit will remain in all of us and shed light on all young new entertainers wanting to make it big.” vided their support for free, Graeme Mykal was on hand with his balloon model donations and at 6pm there was another auction of donated items called by Ricky Neil. Sunday afternoon’s organisers Carla and Mark, who knew Katie as well as anyone, said that the day was a celecration of such an amazing person who touched so many in her 18 short years. “She was so kind and so generous and will always be in our hearts” said Mark I think we can all agree that Katie Salmon at 18 years of age was a remarkable girl. hearts of her family and this community. Our love, thoughts and prayers go to her parents, family and friends at this sad time. Their lives will never be the same again. Organiser of Thursday’s function at ‘The Local’ Richie Alexander said that “Katie was an extraordinary person. She just really cared. She was passionate about theatre, about song and dance, about a lot of different things. It has been a privilege to know her as a friend.” Richie then went on to say how gratified he had been at the wonderful response from all corners of the local community as everybody came together to celebrate Katie’s life. ‘It shows how much people really do care here on the Costa Blanca and how they connect to provide their support in such times of adversity. We have all been completely overwhelmed by the support we have received. My sincere thanks to one and all’. ....and the final word from Katie’s parents. “We as a family would like to thank everyone for giving our daughter Katie Elizabeth Salmon a wonderful and fitting celebration xxx”.........Julie Salmon

HOPES RISE FOR ALICANTE FILM STUDIO The tender envelope will be opened today (Monday) at the studio

The Generalitat Valenciana has received a last minute bid for the Ciudad de la Luz film production complex in Alicante, although the exact details of the offer are unknown. According to the Spanish press it is not known whether the bid is in respect of the entire complex or one or more of the lots. Neither is the identity of the applicant known. The two envelopes, one containing the financial bid and one with the buyer's identity, arrived last Monday afternoon at around 13.30, the final day of the bidding process specified in the tender document and legally five working days has to pass before the authorities are allowed to proceed with opening of the offer, which has been deposited in the custody of a notary. It is understood that this process will be carried out at the studio next Monday (27 July). The European Commission have authorised the sale of the Ciudad de la Luz (the City of Light), by in six lots by auction, with a base bid of 94.4 million euro. The lots for sale are the production sets 1-6, the production building AP2 and the production workshops and warehouses. In the bidding documents the sale of the Studies Centre, the building restoration complex, offices, underground and surface parking were all excluded.

The criterion for the award of the tender is that of the most financially advantageous offer. During the first auction only those offers that equal or exceed the original tender price will be considered but in the event of there being no offers that achieve the basic tender price, the auction will have been considered unsuccessful, and the agents will proceed to the setting up of a second auction at which there will be no minimum bidding price. Just the one offer on the table gives rise to all sorts of speculation about the future of the Alicante folm set. However in the event of the auction only disposing of only one of the six lots the president of the Generalitat, Ximo Puig has said that he will appeal to the European Commission with a view to putting in some sort of public or semi public audiovisual management team. So, the future of the studio depends entirely on the opening of the envelope. If the bid is higher than 94,426,363.57 euros (excluding VAT) and the requirements are met, the City of Light will pass into private hands. If the bidding falls below that figure the Consell could try to void the auction in agreement with the European Union and the City of Light could then have a new future.

I DON’T Spain has raised the minimum age for marriage from 14 to 16 to boost protection of minors and bring the country in line with its European Union neighbours. The legislation came into effect last Thursday and follows recommendations from United Nations experts and child protection groups. Spanish law had previously allowed boys and girls to marry at 14 with permission from a judge. Spain also recently raised the minimum age for consent to sexual relations from 13 to 16.

Animal Welfare in Spain reaches new low!

CATALAN INDEPENDENCE Catalan separatist leaders have vowed to make a unilateral declaration of independence from Spain after local elections in September, putting themselves firmly on a collision course with the central government in Madrid. The leaders of the two main Catalan nationalist political parties and pro-independence grass roots groups on Monday unveiled a united platform for the Sept 27 election in the semi-autonomous region. Although the election is for seats in the Catalan parliament, nationalists are treating it as a plebiscite on independence.

panish court rules that it is legal to imprison dogs which are permanently chained inside a hot container and lying in their own excrement with no room to move

In June, the Animal Care Treatment International Network (ACTIN) took the owners of a group of hunting dogs to court in a severe-dog-abuse landmark case. The dogs, of which it is feared that some have died already, are being held, chained inside a metal sea container in the countryside in Valencia, which in hot weather is reaching at least 44 degrees Celsius. But the Spanish court have now ruled in favour of the dogs’ owners, who, are reportedly continuing to put the animals’ lives at risk in a case of extreme cruelty. ACTIN, which took the dog owners to court in an attempt to seek a sustainable solution, has appealed against the verdict. However, its appeal has now been turned down. It is thought that four dogs, and a new-born puppy, are still alive and being held in the container in, which, reportedly is not unusual in Spain.

Although neighbours alerted the police about the container in 2010, ACTIN was first made aware of the dogs’ suffering in May 2015 by a passer-by. The woman had strong concerns for the dogs’ welfare and she reported she could hear ‘two dogs crying’. In an emotional statement she also told ACTIN that during none of her regular morning and evening checks had she ever witnessed the dogs being attended or let out. ACTIN took the case to court based on a formal complaint of severe animal abuse, backed by expert testimonies from three veterinary practitioners. However after conducting a full investigation, Seprona, the Spanish Nature Protection Service (a unit of the Spanish Civil Guard responsible for nature conservation and management of the hunting and fishing industry), ruled that no laws were being broken by the dogs’ owners. ACTIN has since appealed the verdict and its lawyer’s plea showed that the dogs’ microchips and vaccinations had been done shortly before the inspection. It is alleged that the report did not accu-

rately reflect the state of the dogs prior to the inspection. Since the court case took place earlier this June, further witnesses have come forward stating the dogs are still locked in the container. Reports suggest that noise from the captive animals was weakening prior to the inspection, and that strong smells are now emanating from the container. There is no way of knowing how long the four remaining adult dogs and one puppy will stay alive. The court case followed 14 official complaints, an online petition which gathered 21,000 signatures on Care2, as well as multiple vet statements regarding the cruelty and welfare of the dogs. The case cost ACTIN, which had to use advice of an animal welfare lawyer, 1300 Euros. The Animalist Party Against Animal Abuse (PACMA), known for being the only Spanish political party that defends the rights of animals, is also on board trying to fight for the welfare rights on the dogs. 966 73 0057 The mayor said that many officers feel they are being discriminated against because they still have the old weapons

New sidearms for Torrevieja police The mayor of Torrevieja, Jose Manuel Dolon, is still trying resolve many of the issues that are affecting the activities of the Polica Locale. Last week he announced the creation of a working group which will look at their conditions of service with a view to resolving some of the outstanding issues that affect the internal organisation of the force in the city. He has now also included representatives from both Recruitment and from the Department of Safety to become involved in the group. And just last week the mayor has said that he is to authorise the procurement of 40 pistols that will be used to replace some of the old weapons currently in service with the force. He said that some of the weapons current-

ly in use are obsolete, they should be scrapped and they have a limited capacity because of their condition which could reflect on the safety of citizens. Currently the in service revolver has a chamber that holds just six bullets. The new pistol will have a much greater capacity which will allow the police to discharge more warning shots than at present. Dolon said that the measure is intended to regularize the situation amongst those agents who, for one reason or another, are still in possession of the old weapons. Many of the officers feel that they are being discriminated against. They perceive it as being a case of discrimination against the rest colleagues who have a much more modern and better performing firearm.

RESIDENTS COMPLAIN AFTER ELECTROMAR Local residents complained to the Torrevieja Dept of Cleanliness on Tuesday at the filthy state that the Antonio Soria Park was left in following the Electromar music festival on the previous Saturday. They said that the municipal cleaning services had not responded quickly enough and it was completely unacceptable that the park had still not been properly cleaned.

The surrounding streets were still badly littered with trash, containers, broken bottles and cans and they expressed their dissatisfaction with the all round aspects of the music festival which they said spread into many areas that had not been authorised. There were also complaints from many business owners near to the Casagrande Business Park, adjoining the Delfina Viudes Avenue.

Coca Cola not welcome in Alicante The Alicante Town Hall has decided to withdraw its permission for the staging of an art exhibition by the Coca Cola Foundation in the city. The council say that before any future talks can be held the company must resolve it dispute with 156 former employees who lost their jobs when their Alicante Bottling Depot closed last year. Dani Martin, the councillor for culture, said that the town hall are

morally obliged to reject the exhibition because of the refusal of the company to re employ its former workers in accordance with the judicial sentence issued by the Spanish Court earlier this year.

He said that the town hall staff fully supports the rights of the former Coca Cola employees and they cannot stand back while the company continue to ignore the law.

‘Twitters from the Atlantic’ By Barrie Mahoney Barrie Mahoney was a head teacher and school inspector in the UK, as well as a reporter in Spain, before moving to the Canary Islands to launch and edit a new English language newspaper. He enjoys life in the sun as a columnist and author, and continues to write a series of popular novels, books for expats, as well as designing mobile apps and websites to promote the Canary Islands.

THE BIR THD AY EXPAT This is the time of year when I begin to dread yet another birthday. It's not that I don't appreciate being around for another year, because I do, but it is a time for reflection, as well as celebration. For me, these are times to reflect on those family members and friends who have passed on during the year, as well as remembering previous times spent together. My mind goes back to happy, as well as less happy, times spent with my parents, brothers, aunts and uncles and friends that make up so many memories, which help to form the fabric of our lives. All of us see the pattern of life repeating through our friends and families, with engagements, weddings, new babies, some christenings (and not necessarily in that order), parties and all the patterns of celebration within family life that seem to be ingrained into our very psyche. I guess the passage of time is even more acute for expats when, because of distance, time and the high costs of travel, many of us do not see our families and friends as much as we would like. Many of our expat friends tell us that they often feel "excluded" from family events, not through deliberate intention, but just because people have their own busy lives, and time and events move rapidly on. I know of many expats who, when faced with the excitement and wonder of a newly-born grandchild, forgo their life in the sun and return to the UK; that family tie is often far too strong to resist.

As expats, we have chosen not to be part of the normal routines of family life. If we are fortunate, our families have moved with us, but if not, we are grateful for the special times that we can spend together, as well as being thankful for the occasional phone call, email, as well as contact through Facebook, Skype, WhatsApp and other social media.

As Expats we can’t always be with our families during times of celebration

It is also strange how time changes the way that people see us. Some years ago, I seemed to be receiving endless spam emails about sex toys and non-prescription drugs. A few years later, I started receiving emails about Viagra, which worried me in case they knew something that I didn't. Nowadays, I am receiving endless emails about funeral plans. I guess it is all part of life's rich tapestry... Last week I was travelling by bus to Las Palmas, when I spotted an elderly woman who was struggling with her shopping. There were no seats available, and so I did what I always do in such circumstances; I stood up and offered the woman my seat. My parents taught me from an early age to always give up my seat to the elderly, infirm and pregnant women. It is a rule that I have always been guided by; however, on this occasion, it backfired spectacularly. The woman shook her head, thanked me and replied that I probably needed the seat more than she did. I sat down, thoroughly chastened, and determined that the time had probably come when I should sit tight, regardless of the aged and pregnant. I find that the best way for me to cope with birthdays nowadays is by going away from home, which is a pattern that we have followed since

becoming expats. I guess it is linked to not being able to be with family and friends from the past and the sometimes painful flood of memories at this time of the year. I have been blessed with a loving partner for many years, and it is a time when we enjoy sharing birthdays together, exploring and creating our own memories for the future. I'm just off to Lanzarote, which is this year's party island. Local government settles in Following the local elections in May, the governments of Orihuela and Torrevieja are finally starting to settle into their positions as they define the future for both corporations. In a late announcement on Tuesday night, it was revealed that the Partido Popular and the Ciudadanos in Orihuela agreed to a pact whereas the Ciudadanos group have now agreed to support the government as a majority. Although the members of Ciudadanos who obtained elected seats will not be active in government, they vowed to support the PP in plenary motions, thus allowing the PP to ensure a majority vote in all cases and rule the municipality without needing any further support from the opposition. As a reward for their commitment, the three Ciudadanos members will each receive 17,000 euro of municipal money by means of a salary, in addition to the extra payment for attending the standard and extraordinary plenary sessions when they vote. The Orihuela Costa based CLARO group, who just missed out on enough votes for them to secure a seat in government, pointed out that when the mayor of Orihuela proposed a 5% increase in salaries, the Ciudadanos party rejected it. However, when the mayor proposed a 15% pay rise, this was sufficient for the Ciudadanos party to accept, despite not having active roles. Paul Piccio Hernandez of CLARO says “this is a great way to earn money at our EXPENSE”, and “the Orihuela Costa again will suffer.” The PP mayor of Orihuela, Emilio Bascuñana, was blatant in his justification of the payment to the Ciudadanos members as being “compensation” for their support. With the same agreement comes an 8,000 euro increase for the mayor himself, with his salary increasing to 56,000 euro from the 48,000 taken by predecessor, Monserrate Guillén.

Bascuñana has pointed out however that his salary is still well below the maximum he could have awarded himself, which is 75,000 euro.

being kicked out, Pepa Ferrando, also objected to the increase, stating how “these salaries are far from the altruistic spirit that is always presumed.”

However, despite the agreement meaning a majority rule in votes, when it came to Friday´s plenary session the Ciudadanos chose to abstain. Therefore, with 11 votes from the PP in favour, and 11 votes from the opposition against, it was left to the deciding vote of the mayor, and so Bascuñana of course approved the motion.

As the proposals to increase the salaries had been rejected previously, a lot of work had been done behind the scenes to obtain consensus, although the proposal approved this week is almost identical to the original plan. Little comfort possibly to the residents of the Orihuela Costa who are seeing little improvement to the cleanliness of the streets and are now faced with the competencies originally managed locally by the councillor for the coast being removed from the new post, and handed back to the relevant departments of government. The new councillor for “beaches” and “international residents” will deal only with those areas, and have no impact on urbanism, planning or cleaning, which are all being managed, once again, from the city.

As a result, the mayor will receive his 56,000 euro per year, in 14 payments, the first deputy mayor, Rafael Almagro, will be paid a salary of 47,500 euro, the majority of councillors will receive 44,000 euro each, whereas two of them will receive 42,000 euro. In addition, any councillor who becomes president of a governmental commission will receive an additional 3,000 euro, and the vice presidents will receive a 1,500 euro bonus. The members of the corporation will also receive their 200 euro bonus for attending the plenary sessions and 150 euro for attending each of the administrative council meetings. Spokesperson for the opposition PSOE has described the increases as “exorbitant”, pointing out that whilst the rise in wages agreed between unions and employers is 2%, Bascuñana has given himself a 16% rise and the rest of councillors a 10% increase. Head of the Foro Demócrata group, the previous head of the PP before

Meanwhile, in Torrevieja, the government has approved the draft list of temporary jobs, including positions of trust and advisors, who will be appointed to assist the government team and the opposition during this mandate. There will be a total of twenty advisors appointed, with their salaries, and the salaries of the government, agreed in an extraordinary plenary session expected this week. The Partido Popular and Ciudadanos group in Torrevieja are currently opposing the remuneration of the council, although they are in the minority there and may well find their opposition is nothing more than a vocal concern,

which is ironically the opposite to their political partners in Orihuela. José Manuel Dolón, the mayor of Torrevieja, who himself will not be receiving a salary as he has a pension; this week explained his reasons for also not accepting gifts whilst in the role of head of the municipality. Dolón said that he doesn´t want any personal gains whilst in the role of serving the public office, but did acknowledge refusing gifts from visiting dignitaries could be seen as offensive, and so he will either place donated items into the municipal heritage property store, such as the case of a musical score presented this week, or he will donate the gifts to charitable and none profit entities in order for them to raffle them off for prizes, such as a gift of a tie he was presented with this week. “These can be put to good use in raffles”, he said, and he would sooner those in need benefitted from the donations, rather than was the historic case of previous political members who benefitted from gifts ranging from suits to holidays.

Two new hotels for the Costa Blanca

The Alicante based construction company, Ecisa, has said that it will shortly begin the construction of two new four-star hotels in Benidorm and Calpe.

This was reported by Ecisa CEO, Enrique Peláez, whose company has expanded far beyond the city of Benidorm where it first opened its doors over 40 years ago, to countries such as Qatar, as well as the prestigious 'Marriot' and 'Waldorf Astoria' chains of hotels. The Calpe structure will be of 33 floors, 105 metres high, the hotel tower occupying 28,000 square meters with another 21,000 of entertainment areas on the lower floors. This project is driven by the commercial Sol y Mar (who received this year's award for Tourism from the Chamber of Commerce) and with a budget of 4.5 million euros is scheduled to be erected over the next 13 months. The Benidorm hotel is to be located in the Terra Mitica complex and will be themed on Ancient Egypt. It will be called the Grand Hotel Luxor and the structure will cover an area of 29,000 metres with 346 rooms, five hotel floors and three basement floors. The budget for this project is 32 million with a deadline of five months and plans to

open for the summer of 2016.

It will employ a construction team of fifty people using six cranes which will be operating for 14 hours a day. Peláez said that he is delighted that those companies which are intending to create wealth in the Alicante Province have trusted Ecisa with the project, a group that has extensive experience in hotel development both in Spain and Valencia as well as in many other countries particularly in Qatar, where it recently completed work on the Melia hotel chain and now runs two separate five-star hotels as well as more than 40 other establishments. One is the 'Waldorf Astoria', a tower located in the business district of Doha, West Bay, with a budget of 96 million euros. The hotel, the largest contract in the history of Ecisa, worth over 200 million euros, is a 42-storey property which is currently being built on a prominent headland and commanding panoramic views of the city and the Arabian Gulf. Expected to open by 2016, it will be in the heart of the modern business and diplomatic district, close to Qatar Exchange and near the upcoming Doha Convention Centre.

Human Rights for Cats and Dogs The town council in Trigueros del Valle, a municipality of about 330 people in the Castile and León region, has voted unanimously to define dogs and cats as “non-human residents”, giving them rights similar to men and women. “Dogs and cats have been living among us for over a 1,000 years,” said Pedro Pérez Espinosa, the town’s Socialist mayor. “And the mayor must represent not just the human residents but he must also be here for the others.”

MINISTER REJECTS TOURIST LIMIT

Ada Colau

Tourism Minister Soria, said establishing limits on the number of people arriving in Spain would be like Germany curbing its car production. “What we have to do is to promote our tourism offer,” he said. “We don’t think it’s a good idea to establish limits.” His comments come after Barcelona Mayor Ada Colau raised the possibility of limiting the number of people coming to Spain’s most-visited city. While the proposal has not been formalized, Colau has already moved to stop new hotel licenses for 2015.

BANKS TO SLIM DOWN FURTHER High costs and low returns could soon spur a new wave of consolidation in Spain’s banking industry, where the number of banks has dropped to 14 from 55 since the 2008 financial crisis. A new round of mergers could take that total down to single digits, putting the country on a par with Britain and France. It would also cut a swathe through a still bloated retail banking network that, according to the Bank of Spain, had the most branches per capita in Europe as recently as 2013.

DRONING ON Guards at the Spanish royal family's La Zarzuela palace have spotted numerous robotic aircraft flying through its airspace at night, including the residences. And with radio jamming not working -- short of breaking out guns, the guards can't just bring these machines down. There aren't any clues and while paparazzi seem like an obvious answer, nighttime doesn't really provide the best conditions for taking photos of the King and Queen. There's also a concern that terrorism might be afoot, but the pilots could just as easily be activists, pranksters or even curious locals. Either way, it looks like Spain will have to tighten its anti-drone measures around high-security areas.

Attempted murder verdict for 86 year old Alicante man An Alicante court has sentenced an 86 year old man to seven and a half years in prison for the attempted murder his wife in 2004. The judgment of the Provincial Court, made public last week, recognizes the mitigating circumstances of the defendant who was suffering from a mental breakdown at the time of the attack. The attack took place at 8am on 6 April 2004, in their home at la calle Bernardo López, Alicante, when the defendant, who is currently in custody, attacked his wife after she brought him breakfast in bed. Using a knife that he had on the bedside table he stabbed her repeatedly in the neck, abdomen and head. After the attack, the victim sought help from his neighbours, one of whom alerted the police. On their arrival they immediately went into the house and gave first aid to the injured woman before arresting the perpetrator who had gone back to bed. The woman was removed to a local hospital, where she remained for almost a week after receiving emergency surgery. It is said that at the time of the attack the defendant was suffering from a neurocognitive disorder limited his capacity to know that he was doing wrong. However the judge said that he considered that the defendant had acted with "malice" having retained the knife by his bed from the night before and that he had attacked the victim from behind in a "completely unexpected way" with the intent to cause death. As such the verdict delivered was one of attempted murder.

ABANILLA LANDFILL SITE FOR SALE Proambiente has finally been put up for sale. It seems that the Fenoll family could be about to pack up and dispose of the company that has generated 'rivers of ink,' both journalistic and judicial since the landfill site first began operating in Abanilla over seventeen years ago. It has recently been discovered that as long ago as last May, the Board of Directors began negotiations with four companies that operate in the waste and recycling industries, located in Valencia, Murcia and France, all of which have expressed an interest in acquiring the facilities in Abanilla. Antonio Fenoll, told the Spanish press that “there are companies who want to buy Proambiente". Indeed he says that the company has already reported this situation to the Ministry of Environment as well as conducting meetings with the Autonomous Region. Many of these meetings were also attended by representatives of companies that were interested

in buying the landfill. But for now, according to Fenoll, "no pre-contract arrangement or price has been agreed for the landfill." As such the four companies will now each spend the next two months studying the viability of the facility, one aspect of which must also be the local legislation. But the sale has two major pitfalls. The first is the environmental recovery of the Sierra de Abanilla, for which Proambiente have deposited 3,305,933 euros as a guarantee that the restoration work will be carried out. The works are not yet completed, but Fenoll insists that if the landfill changes hands "it is essential that the restoration work is one hundred percent completed. The other obstacle is the renegotiation of the waste contracts with municipalities in the region and the Vega Baja, as some of them are operated by Sirem, a company owned by Fenoll.

The detector picks up CO2 emissions within a 40ft range and can send text or email alerts to the driver or transport manager and the manufacturer’s monitoring service using a roaming SIM. Settings can be adjusted according to the cargo, so fruit and vegetables that themselves emit CO2 do not cause false alarms. The £299 device (only £199 to FTA members) also has worldwide tracking and is integrated with Google Street Maps. James Hookham, deputy chief executive of the FTA, said: “Anything that makes it safer for drivers to do their job is to be welcomed. This sensor removes the need for them to check their own trucks – something that puts them in serious danger in Calais where there are thousands of migrants milling around. “FTA has a checklist on its website to advise drivers what action to take when using the French port. We recommend always going through the checks and sensors, even if it takes a bit longer, to avoid hefty fines if migrants are found on board.” The detector is fully portable and can be moved from vehicle to vehicle. It has a battery life of between two and four months and requires an £11.99 monthly subscription. An honest service that takes your security seriously Be Sure Alarms is a small family run security business that has been operating on the Costa Blanca since 2001. Our business has gone from strength to strength, simply by providing an honest, reliable service. Over the years, we have got to know the areas around Torrevieja and further afield pretty well and have found that nowhere is free from the disturbing news that your home has been burgled. When purchasing your new home, you will not be informed to the importance of your home security. As soon as you get your keys to your new home, the first thing you must do is to change all your locks. Most importantly though, is the installation of a security system. Not only giving you peace of mind, but it's a good visible deterrent. If your neighbours have one and you don't, who are they going to target ?. Do not leave all your boxes with TV, Stereo etc emblazoned on them outside near your property, as you are only advertising the fact of what you have inside. If you don't protect it, you are putting your property and personal belongings at risk. There are various types of system to choose from,

starting from a ' Stand alone system ', which will activate an outside siren on detection of movement. Then there are the dial-up systems. These can be either by a Land-line or Mobile SIM card operated. On activation, these will call up to 6 allocated numbers, with the added bonus of NO MONTHLY FEE'S. Also installed are the unique grill alarm ' REJAGARD ' which protects all windows and doors, giving you protection 24/7. We service existing wire-free systems, such as YALE and RESPONSE , AEI , SOLARGUARD , ECLIPSE, etc and also supply the solar batteries for these systems. Wi-Fi CCTV cameras can be installed also. The advantage of these is that there is no physical wire from the camera to the router. Our Alarm systems start from as little as 275€ fully fitted and inclusive of IVA. We can be contacted on 645 495 484 or 655 624 299. E mail : info@besurealarms.com. We can also be viewed on www.besurealarms.com and on www.facebook.com/besurealarms. The Maritime Service of the Guardia Civil was alerted at about 11pm when the yacht ran onto the rocks, immediately capsizing and turning onto its side. Water quickly engulfed the boat which was occupied by six adults and two children. Fortunately the service has recently taken delivery of a new boat purchased specifically to deal with such incidents and the shipwrecked crew and their children were quickly rescued and returned unharmed to dry land. The new boat is a semi rigid craft caninada measuring 10.70 meters in length and 3.50 meters wide. It has two x 200 horsepower engines and accomodates five crew the main task of which is usually Fish Inspection and High Speed Patrols in the fight against drug trafficking and smuggling by sea. Alicante traders support Tripartite Ikea stance Alicante’s tripartite government has said that it will not give in to Swedish multinational company Ikea, who are adamant that they will not build their new superstore in the city unless the council allow it to be constructed as part of a much larger commercial centre and their decision to take the stance is supported by the city’s Traders Association. "We are being kept completely up to date with regard to the ongoing negotiations and we trust that we will be made fully aware of any further proposals before the negotiations are concluded" said Domingo Martinez, President of the Association. His statement was also supported by Vicente Armengol, Vice President, of the body representing Alicante Industry, when the pair met last week with the mayor, Gabriel Echavarri; Deputy Mayor, Miguel Angel Pavon; and the spokesman for the executive, Natxo Bellido. At a meeting with Ikea representatives it was said that the multinational was adamant that the site should be in Rabasa and should be part of a new 83,000 square meter commercial centre, something that the trader’s representatives described as "blackmail, which they are not willing to allow." Natxo Bellido, said that the Department of Planning is actually working on an alternative site to that originally planned in Rabasa. While declining to specify the exact location Cllr Miguel Angel Pavon, said that there is available land for tertiary use in el Polígono de las Atalayas which might be more appropriate. However the Federation of Merchants and Entrepreneurs, Alicante (Fecoema) have said that they feel the neighborhood of Rabassa is the "ideal" location for Ikea’s new store and they have announced that they will begin an immediate campaign to collect signatures in support of the Rabasa site.

He is also passing on similarly menacing ‘Tweets’ and social media entries by the councillor which are aimed directly at the Spanish Royal Family as well as a number of politicians and aficionados of bullfighting across the country. He has asked the Guardia to look at the records, to carry out any necessary investigation and action as they feel is appropriate. Among the entries submitted they say such things as “"I do not pay my taxes to subsidise murder unless it is political" and "I throw a bomb unto you," referring to bullfighting aficionados and the Family Real. The interior minister believes that the public prosecutor should study these messages, "He must consider their threatening nature and if necessary proceed with the appropriate legal action." "I must say that in many cases they are acting prosecutors and judges and sentences are occurring." He recalled that Madrid now Councilman Guillermo Zapata longer municipal charge of Culture but remains mayor of a district of the capital after a spread offensive tweets. The minister believes that social networks cannot offer immunity to their users. However, despite opposition complaints and request by the minister to carry out the investigation, Marisol Moreno was ratified by Alicante’s tripartite government. With the mayor , Gabriel Echavarri, only referring to her comments by suggesting that he considered them to be " unfortunate."

EL RANCHO BOWLS CLUB Tuesday evening found El Rancho playing our final league game of the season in the Premier 20 against Montemar and although on paper it hasn’t been a great league for us, in reality we have had a weaker squad than most of our opponents. The teams we turned out, on the whole, have played very well and there is certainly no shame in being beaten by a stronger team. As long as you try your best on the day, handle the situation with good grace and enjoy yourself, what more can you ask. And always remember that losing does not mean you played badly. We did however end the league with a win against Montemar, taking 3 rinks at home with 1 rink and a draw away from home, also taking the overall shots by a small margin. At home: Jane Hamill 21-15. Jim Gracie and Stew Hamill 23-13. Lindsey Phillips, Rob Clark and Malc Sykes 14-22. Terry Buswell, Graham Day, Malc Elmore and Richard Needham 326. Away: John Newell 10-21. Guests ‘Hunt’ down the prizes at Orange Tree Once again we all met at home base The Orange Tree Bar and Restaurant on yet another beautiful summers day here on the Costa Blanca. The weather was set fine and warm and promised a beautiful day for golf. We had a wonderful breakfast which set us up for the day and plenty of fluid on-board to combat the heat. On arrival at Mar Menor we were greeted with a wonderful course in beautiful condition. The number of people there shows the popularity of this course, which meant we had to start on the 10th tee. A first for me but also interesting making the course seem different. Unfortunately the Captain, Fred Noakes, was unable to play with us due to injury thus the Vice Captain, Simon Sharples, took over the responsibility of organising the day along with Chris Blown. We played a Pairs Betterball and set on for a wonderful day. We must not to forget to welcome our guests and new members, this society is growing week by week. In particular we must welcome the Hunter family, James and his three sons, (shown in the picture with two of his sons who won prizes on the day)

which shows that a family who play together stay together. Welcome all. We all returned back to The Orange Tree for the presentation and wonderful refreshments and drink. Thanks to Chris, Nigel, Lilly, Joanne, Brian, Katie, Keva, Hannah, Gareth. The Winners were Kedric Rhodes and Mick Plimmer with 44 points, 2nd James Hunter and Kieran Hunter with 43 and 3rd Roger Lyles and Andy Shuttle with 42 on countback. NTP´s went to Aaron Hunter (2nd), Nigel Cawthra (14th) anbd Kieran Hunter (17th). The next society event is on Tuesday 28th July, meet at the Orange Tree the Monday night previous between 5-6pm to pay and receive instructions. All names can be either placed on the start sheet within the restaurant or by phoning 965323235 or via the email on orangetree@hotmail.es The full fixture list and previous reports and pictures can be found within the golf section on the restaurant website which you can find at www.orangetree-caboroig.com

‘Young buck’ Rogers takes Quesada Gold at Las Colinas Last Wednesday the Society played what many consider to be the best golf course on the southern Costa Blanca, Las Colinas. The course was as usual in excellent condition. The extras provided, free pyramid of golf balls on the driving range, free tees, free chilled bottle of water and a free half after the game do make a difference. The popularity of the course was reflected in the good turn-out of 30 golfers contesting two divisions in an individual stableford competition. It was extremely hot and plenty of ice cold drinks during the round was the order of the day. One incident worthy of mention. David Bartam , after driving off on No4, played a lovely 2nd shot with an iron. We all watched the ball disappear down the fairway but didn't notice at first, that his iron had left his hands and travelled about 30 metres, left, into the trees. The expression on his face was a picture. He did find and recover his golf club. In first place in the Gold Division was young buck, Ryan Rogers who played to his handicap of 8 with 36 stableford points. In 2nd place was the old

campaigner “Iron” Brian Smith with 31 points and in third place Lord Ian Fogerty with 30 points. In the Silver Division the winner was wee Scottish lassie Angela Carroll with 30 points. In 2nd place with 28 points was young Trevor Hobbs who pipped 3rd placed Chris Nield on C/B. Trevor claims he would have scored more if he had had a less talkative playing partner than “chatterbox” Darryll Wright and I wouldn´t disagree with him. The Best Guest was Eddie Downing. The “Nearest the Pin” winners were Diddy Dave Winchcombe, Darryll Wright, Ryan Rogers, Tony Patterson and Les Pancott. 2 players got 2´s on the day, Les Pancott and Sue Smith and took away 50€ each from the 2´s pot which is now depleted but still has a few euro´s left in it. High handicapper Les Pancott in scoring a two on the par 3 5th hole, which is stroke index scored

5,points yes 5 stableford points which certainly helped boost his points tally but not quite enough for a “podium” finish in the Silver Division. The weary golfers returned to the Quesada Country Club for the presentations and a well earned cool drink or two and a hot and cold buffet kindly laid on by mine hosts.

The next game is an individual stableford at Altorreal on Wednesday 5 August. Anyone in the Quesada area looking to join a very friendly golf society and play golf once a fortnight at a wide variety of courses at very reasonable cost, should contact the Membership Secretary Les Pancott on 966716723.

Micro tining doesn’t spoil the day for Spanglish For the latest meeting the Spanglish Golf Society and a group of 20 players visited the established course at Lo Romero taking advantage of the excellent society deal obtained from Costa Blanca Green Fee Services. As you would expect the skies were clear and blue BUT boy was it hot and sticky and the course was in excellent condition despite having a recent micro-tine on the greens. Today was an individual stableford event. The winners on the day were as follows: 1st – Harry Tebay - 38 points 2nd – Peter Brown - 36 points 3rd – Phil Tebay - 35 points

4th – Mervyn Evans – 34 points 5th – Keith Fairchild – 34 points 6th – Vince Lannon – 33 points Nearest the Pins – Harry Tebay and Keith Fairchild Best Front 9 – Mike Probert -16 points Best Back 9 – Brian Proctor – 17 points Best Supporting Act – Roger Clarke Football Card – Brian Proctor After the game we returned to the Spanglish bar, which is located at Dona Pepa, Quesada for a welcome meal prepared by the bar and the prize presentation and we

give our thanks for their support. Our next interim fixture is at Vistabella on Wednesday 5th August 2015 and the monthly society fixture is at Roda on Wednesday 19th August 2015 and guests are welcome. If you are interested in joining the society call Paul Cawte on 966731223 or Graham Hall on 664692638 or better still pop into the bar. Report by Mike Probert of Costa Blanca Green Fee Services on 966 704 752 or 661 345 931 or see us at our web-site at www.costa-blanca-greenfees.com.

Friday the 17th saw a smaller turn out than normal for this very popular course, maybe it was the extreme heat we have had over the past couple of weeks but 24 players still played and with an 08.30 start we were able to get a few holes under our belts as it were before it began to take its toll on us because scores to-day were a lot lower that we would normally have. Have to say the course was in great condition with greens now beginning to be very fast and the results of our Stableford Competition were Category 1. 1st. Liam 0’Brien 32 points 2nd. Larry Quinn 31 3rd. Peter Kerr 29 and 4th. Paul Abbott with 27 points. Category 2. 1st. Margaret O’Brien yes. kept it in the family! 37 points 2nd. Bernard Ball 36. 3rd. Terry Phillips on c/b from 4th.Tom Curran 31 points. Nearest the pins Hole 5. El Presidente Hole 7. a dead heat could not split at all so 2 NTP’s Gill Lawrence & Larry Quinn. Hole 10. Margaret O’Brien and on holes 14 & 17 Geoff Betts. The Full Monte in support of our associates going to Gill Lawrence. Our next games are Vistabella 25th.July. El Plantio August 7 and Roda August 14th. No pictures of the winners today but in its place details of the charity we intend to support from now on and one that is very close to what TORREGOLF try to achieve encourage more to play golf and here it is, Ex Service men who have lost a limb or limbs of some description and for them to take up and play golf under the umbrella of Battle Back Golfers and Golf4Heroes.com. Currently there are over 50 members who have taken this up and most have never played golf before, so let’s get behind the boys and give them a life they never expected to have. Sportsman Golf Society Quesada At Roda Golf Wednesday 22nd July 2015 The day started for some with a great breakfast served up at the Galleon Bar before we headed south to Roda Golf. A quiet turnout of 16 players (Summer time heat), taking advantage of the offer from the course of €41 Green Fee & Buggy. The course was in great condition, nicely manicured fairways and greens. The weather as expected for this time of year was pretty uncomfortable for most, however, the wind did pick up a little on the back 9 holes. Today we decided to use a different format for paying for a two's sweep and two players managed to scoop the prize fund. One of the two's was holed from over 100 mtrs and unfortunately the player (Tony "Three putts" Wilson) could not see his great shot go into the hole. However, he was relieved that he did not have to get his putter out? Only one player managed to break Par on the day. However, with his winning score of 37 points Alec will be sporting a new handicap, well done

Alec. A full list of scores is available on the Society Golfing page or by visiting the Master scoreboard website. A big thank you to Tracey & Steve at the Galleon Bar, Quesada for serving up a cracking Homemade Quiche and salad. Winners of the Day : Winner: Alec Aspden 37 pts, R/up: Gary Strowger 34 pts Nearest the Pins : 7th John Sanchez, 11th Bob Eaton, 13th Ronnie McCully. In the bunker with ‘Mick the Grip’ FRIDAY AT ST. ANDREWS: A deluge of rain cascading onto the Old Course caused delays of more than three hours, despite the herculean efforts of the green’s staff. Young Paul Dunne’s caddie stopped offering him advice and offered to give him swimming lessons. Saturday was worse with the wind causing havoc. As an esteemed golf correspondent once said, they really should consider playing this major in summer.

OPEN WINNNER Zach Johnson’s strict Christian upbringing stood him in good stead on the 18th green when microphone waving interviewers charged up asking inane questions like: ‘What does this moment mean to you?’ He managed to choke out a polite response, but must have wished, briefly, that they would go forth and multiply. AFTER WINNING The Greenbriar Classic 24 yr. old Danny Lee confided that he just wanted someone to celebrate his $1.2 million prize with; preferably a girlfriend. After playing eight tournaments in nine weeks he said he was tired of coming back to an empty hotel room. I imagine the next sound was his hotel door being flattened as 5,000 potential girlfriends arrived. THE RICOH Womens’ British Open (July 30th to August 2nd) will take place at the much Trumpeted Trump Turnberry Resort, Scotland. Mo Martin, the 2014 champion will be defending her title against a star studded international field, including New Zealand’s Lydia Ko, U.S.A.’s Stacy Lewis and a great many ladies from South Korea. FORMER WORLD NO. 1. Tiger Woods arrived at the Greenbriar Classic in his private jet after cruising the Bahamas in his yacht. However Tiger has not had a top 10 finish since his tie for 2nd at the 2013 Barclays Championship. Down to World No. 258, he needs tournament starts to improve his world ranking; so low that he is ineligible for next month’s Bridgestone Invitational, which he won eight times. But his earnings alone total well over $100 million, so

there’s no need to pawn the yacht just yet. IT’S UNUSUAL to change Swingweights from mid to long irons in a set, but the new Ping GMax Irons do just that, becoming progressively lighter from the mid irons up to the long. Ping know that golfers likely to use the GMax lose club speed in longer shafted clubs, particularly in the long irons, so Ping made the clubs lighter to help them square the face at impact, increasing ball speed and promoting straighter shots. Reviews have labelled them clunky, but you can’t have everything. IN 1960 ARNOLD PALMER was “The Man.” He had won a second Masters that year and the U.S. Open at Cherry Hills. After 54 holes at St. Andrews he was four strokes behind the leader, Australian Kel Nagle. As he teed off on the 17th in the final round he still trailed by two.

The infamous Road Hole was then a 483 yd. par 5. In each of the first three rounds, Palmer was on in 2, then three putted for par. But now he had a birdie 4. When a roar went up for Palmer’s birdie 3 on the 18th Nagle was hunched over a birdie putt on the 17th. He holed it to maintain his one stroke lead, then parred the 18th to win. Palmer lost the Open, but not his sense of humour. His caddie Tip Anderson later told how on the first three rounds Palmer had hit a 6 iron to the 17th green. In his desperation to catch Nagle in the final round, he hit a 5 iron onto the road behind the green. “He made a great recovery and got a 4,” Anderson said. “Walking to the 18th tee, he says to me, ‘Tip, you’ve cost me the Open championship.’ I was stunned. ‘What have I done?’ I asked. He looked at me sternly for a moment and then he starts to laugh. ‘You gave me the wrong club all week.’ ”

Happy Days Golf Society By Lubbertus

Mar Menor Golf lived up to its reputation as an excellent venue when the society visited it for its match this week on 21st July. The course is 6,153 metres, par 72, but is quite demanding having large bunkers and a huge lake. The weather remained very hot with temperatures once more well over 30 degrees and with little breeze to cool things down. However, Kevin Wenn took all this in his stride achieving a magnificent hole in one, the first this year for the society, at the 17th hole. The winning pair on the day was Ken Farrow and Dave Naylor with an amazing 75 points. Well behind were the 2nd 3rd and 4th all with close scores. 2nd was Andy Shuttle and Pete Curley with 69; 3rd was Ken Barrett and Simon Sharples on 68; with Tony Jones and John MacGregor in 4th snapping at their heals with 67 points. Lin Newbury achieved nearest the pin at hole 2, Dave Naylor at hole 8, and Roddy Bruce at hole 14. Kevin Wenn achieved nearest the pin at hole 17 with his hole in one, but surely he was in the pin, not nearest it. Winners of the “2s” were Kevin Wenn, Dave Naylor and Stuart Robinson. However, as it says in Ecclesiastes 3:1, "There is a time for everything." and this time and day had to go to Kevin Wenn with his hole in one, and the society duly helped him to celebrate both in the club house in the magnificent InterContinental Hotel, and back at the “19th” hole at the Marinasol Restaurant in Cabo Roig. The Society’s next match will be at the Riquelme Golf Course on 4th August 2015. New members or just those seeking more information should contact Steve Dixon, or any of the staff, at the Marinasol Restaurant at Cabo Roig. All comers of all levels are very welcome.

Playing Golf in Extreme Heat Conditions I have lived in Spain for 11 years and July 2015 has seen the hottest weather conditions that we have seen in those years and playing golf in these conditions takes it's toll on both your body and mind. Below are a number of tips issued by the PGA of America which will allow you to be in a better position to handle such extreme weather conditions: 1.) Stay hydrated and drink plenty of fluids not only on the day of play but start at least one day before you play (even earlier if flying to your golfing destination) and try to avoid caffeine and alcohol. 2.) Wear loose, breathable, light coloured clothing made of moisture absorbing material that won't start to stick to your body when you start to sweat so that you feel comfortable when playing golf. 3.) Use sunblock on the exposed part of your body with a high factor rating and remember that most modern golf clothes have sunblock technology built in and simple for sunblock reasons there is nothing wrong in wearing long sleeves on hot days. 4.) Wear a loose, light bucket hat with a wide brim to not only keep off the sun but maintain energy levels and these are better that peaked caps for this purpose. 5.) Eat light, but eat something to aid your concentration and energy levels but don't bulk up on a heavy meal before heading to the golf course for 5 hours. 6.) Warm up fully but lightly in preparation for your round but don't over do the practice and use up that much needed energy before you stand on the first tee. SIZZLING TEMPERATURES FAIL TO STOP RIA AT VILLAMARTIN

Wow! What a day’s golf, sizzling temperatures along with some sizzling scores. It was thought that by bringing our tee time forward to a 9am start that we would miss the searing heat of the afternoon sun, that we did, but we didn’t expect close to 100% humidity, even before we teed off our shirts were soaked, I didn’t realised that the human body could hold so much water, or maybe was it cerveza? Any way 33 members and guests turned up to battle, not only the heat, but also a golf course whose condition just gets better and better. The fairways and greens were in excellent condition and I believe that this contributed to some amazing scoring. Last week at La Marquesa, guest Ria Wouters impressed us with her 48 points, after losing 6 full shots from her handicap she again returned the best score of the day, this time it was just a measly 43 points! This was 5 points ahead of 2nd place, Dave Richards and 8 points ahead of her husband Patrick, who said that she can’t have any more lessons. You could hear the comments in the clubhouse; I’m glad that she hasn’t become a member yet. Also last week you might have noticed that a number of Scandinavians were in the prizes, well the “Vikings” were at it again

this week, did you know that the word “Viking” comes from an old Norse language, it means “Pirate raiding”, no surprise there then. So in the Silver category “Viking” Per Skarnes took 3rd place with level par 36 points, 2nd place had to be decided on Lower handicap, so our Treasurer, Alex Goslan came in 2nd which left another “Viking” Carsten Landaas taking home 1st prize with both players returning 38 points. It was nice to see Mick Kennedy in the frame of the Gold category with 3rd place on 34 pts. again this category was raided by the ever present “Viking” Hans Arvesen with 34 pts. on lower handicap, but the real raid came from ship’s Captain Ole Rong with 41 pts. and would you believe it, he blobbed the 18th?, yes of course he is another “Viking”, but as in days gone by all good things come to an end, in this case Hans has to return to the water works department in Norway, his summer pirate raids over for another year and Ole will be setting sale tomorrow for the oil terminals in the North sea, the rest of us are going to miss you guys, one says with one’s tongue in cheek. Ups, in all of the excitement about the raiding pirates I almost forgot to finish, the N.T.P.’s this week went to, Ria Wouters Hole 6, no surprise there then, hole 9 Les Wilton, Hole 13 was for our Gold Category and Joe Dean took it by default as his wife Shelia was a good 2 meters closer but unfortunately for her she is in the Silver category, so can’t take it, the closest on hole 17 was local member Ian Parkinson. Photo: of course this must include Viking and ship’s Captain, Ole Rong (center) and Hans Arvesen along with his caddie for the day (left) and Mick Kennedy on the right. On the 5th of August we will be celebrating our 3rd anniversary at Campoamor, so if you fancy a game just call the Secretary on 661 524 101 or visit our website www.tmgs.org you can also follow us on Facebook/tmgsgolf or via our twitter account @tmgsgolf.

Las Colinas turns on the style for El Pirata as Gregson strikes Gold On Tuesday 21st July our Society travelled out to Las Colinas Golf Club. There was a good turnout of 24 members and our photographer (there to catch the embarrassing moments off the first tee), ventured out on a very hot day. The fairways and greens were in excellent condition with some of the members saying they thought some the greens were a little bit on the slow side but still very good. Gary Stroyd (newbie), who has never played on a Spanish course before, came in with a respectable 33 points. Phil Harris (no nickname as yet, but give it time) scored a good 34 points. Dave Gregson (we would like to call him the Master) playing off 8 scored a very good 35 points. John Devine, playing on his home course, came in with 34 points. We must give a big thank you to all the staff at Las Colinas Golf Club for helping to make it such a really great day which was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. We have to mention that some of us thought we were seeing double or had already been affected by the sun when we walked in as there were identical twins working behind the bar. After the game we returned to the Bar El Pirata for a well-deserved drink. Our hostess Sam provided food, which was greatly appreciated by all, and Diane did a great job behind the bar. Our photographer, Kristoff, was on hand to record the day’s winners. As on previous occasions, some of the wives, girlfriends, partners and friends joined us for the prize presentation. The winners on the day were:- Gold section

Call for Award for ex Montesinos boss Juanpe and former Club President Pilar BY ANDREW ATKINSON AXED CD Montesinos FC coach Juanpe and outgoing President Pilar should be acknowledged - in the wake of a shake-up at the Los Montesinos club. A call has been made by members of the 'Full Monte' supporters to award both Juanpe - sacked after seven years at the club - and Pilar, for services rendered. And former President Howard Yeats said:"I agree a gesture of thanks is in order, to both Juanpe and Pilar." Former coach Juanpe, who has taken up a new role as coach at Almoradi-based club Sporting Saladar, thanked the 'Full Monte' Members in a 'Goodbye' message, thanking them for the fantastic support and help given to the club and himself: "I will always be grateful," said Juanpe.

The CD Montesinos FC new committee did not renew Juanpe's contract, after he cited unnamed players, who had made life difficult for him and his management team last season. Juanpe had also stated the disruptive influence they had on the rest of the players: "None of this was taken into consideration by the new committee," said Juanpe. "Another condition of mine was that a member of The Full Monte was asked to come onto the Committee. At this moment in time, that has not happened," said Juanpe. Now a call has been voiced to acknowledge the duo: "It is sad really. I thought both the manager Juanpe and Presidente Pilar tried very hard for the club," said a 'Full Monte' supporter. "The 'Full Monte' should come up with a gesture of

"It is a nice gesture to show support for the 'Full Monte' from Juanpe following his departure, after seven years at the club." The CD Montesinos Players' Annual Dinner saw Dimitry voted the players 'Player of the Year' for the 2014-15 season. Carlos was voted the Supporters 'Player of the Year'. Hopes are that an opportunity arises this season for the 'Full Monte' to get more integrated with the Spanish supporters at the club. The club has attracted crowds of 400 at home fixtures in the 2nd Regional Group 15 of the Valencia league - supported by both English and Spanish based fans - as well as a loyal support for away games. "CD Montesinos biggest and best resource - as far as I am concerned - is the 'Full Monte'," said Sporting Saladar new coach Juanpe.

the main talking point was Hull's 5 bookings, 3 of which were for dissent. Brani should have scored when finding himself unmarked at the far post, but his tame header lack any conviction. Tigers best effort came on 44 mins - Tymon heading over from a corner. A plethora of goals, action packed 2nd half greeted the expectant fans - oh, and loopy Lopez was at it again! Hinchliffe opened the scoring barely 25 seconds into the new half, when firing home, following a defensive error. Rafa Gomez set up Cesar, who executed a superb drive, inching just inside the far post on 55 mins. A harsh penalty award for hand ball on 57 mins, presented Juanfran the opportunity to score a maiden goal for his new club, which he took with aplomb. Lofts squared proceedings on 81 mins, shooting

home from an acute angle. Torry should have added a 3rd goal on 86 mins, but faced with a 1 on 1, Juanfran shot tamely at Watson, the Hull keeper there for the taking. Wouldn't you know it, with a minute of normal time remaining, a deep floated corner was firmly headed home by Bowen, giving the visitors a victory, whereas Torry probably did enough to earn a share of the spoils. There's no more football at Vicente Garcia Stadium until Fri 8 Aug, ko 8pm (unless a last minute match is arranged), when Segunda B side Hercules arrive in town. The league season kicks off on weekend of 22/23 August, with Torry visiting Ontinyent. Then on 30 August, it will be Borriol (who have replaced Cullera) who will be visiting Vicente Garcia Stadium.

Plenty more action at Pinatar Arena

Betis and Valencia fought out a 2-2 draw

Betis B and Valencia drew 2-2 at Pinatar Arena last week in a game which had plenty of opportunities for both teams. Betis B dominated the first half but it was Toni Martinez who put Valencia ahead just before the interval. After the break two goals, almost one after the other, from Luis and Ivan Lara put Betis in front only for Valencia to draw level through Fran Navarro after an error by Alex in the Betis goal. Final score: Mestalla Valencia 2-2 Real Betis B On Thursday Pinatar put FC Cartagena to the sword with the only goal of the game coming against the run of play from Dani Pana on the hour mark. Titi Sanz and Vicente both had opportunities for Cartagena but the minnows of Pinatar hung on to take a famous victory from their near neighbours. Final Score: Pinatar Arena FC 1-0 FC Cartagena.
