Most commercial centres in Orihuela Costa are busy in the evening time with bars, restaurants, lucky-lucky men, hair braiding and loud music
The Sophia Wellness Centre is not like that. It is very active during the daytime. There is plenty of parking and the pace of life there is leisurely.
Situated beside Cabo Roig in the older Spanish area of La Regia, the Sophia Wellness Centre was built in 2005 and looks as inviting today as it did on the day it was built. With a strong emphasis on wellness, the centre has two gyms, one traditional and the other specifically designed for more mature clients. There is also a physiotherapist, a Thai massage, a doctor specializing in lady’s medicine.
On the first floor there is a hairdresser, barber, nail technician, waxing and an expert in the latest permanent hair removal laser technology. There is a very popular German dentist who speaks English. New to the centre is a safe sun tanning salon that also specializes in boosting collagen levels and infra-red light for pain relief.
We are happy to announce that “Infinitech” has opened on the first floor of Sophia. Here you can get a new or refurbished phone, tablet or laptop at very competitive prices and you can get a whole range of accessories and other services. Sophia also has MaJoNa legal and tax consultants, Golf Sun Spanish Properties, and a large, secure, clean self-storage facility as well as a small convenience store and two private member social clubs.

7 clubs involved in the finals.
First up on Monday was the Mixed Rinks between Jean McLaughlin, Richard Warrilow, Stewart Beattie & Chris Salter (El Cid) against Freddie Willey, Peta Rhodes, Lisa & Peter Bonsor (Greenlands).
El Cid were in a fine vein of form and looked to be edging their way to victory in what became an enthralling 3+ hour match. It took until the 16th end of the final for their run to end, one of those spectacular firing shots from the tournament’s most successful bowler, Peter Bonsor, who, with his team trailing 13-14, cut the jack sideways with his final bowl.

RAISING THE VOICE OF ANI MAL WELFARE
There was a heart-warming turnout in Rojales on Sunday of residents and other supporters standing up against animal abuse.
The protest was organised after abuse and attacks of both volunteers and animals in the town, after the town hall implemented the mandatory requirements to care for street cats, and subsequently control them in a humane manner.
The council has recently installed containers adapted to feeding stations for cats, but many of those containers had been vandalised and others had been doused in noxious and toxic substances to deter the cats from using them, the irony being that resulted in the cats continuing to roam freely and uncontrolled, although some of those animals had also been poisoned.
Moreover, the abuse that the animal carers are facing is equally as intolerable as the abuse of the animals, which led to the protest to raise awareness and demand action to resolve the situation for the benefit of all.
Wearing orange ribbons and waving placards, the peaceful protesters did just what they intended, and raised the voice of those trying to be silenced, it now remains to be seen if the action has been a success, or if stricter support should be afforded in the future.
ON LOCATION WITH ADAPT
If you happen to be in San Pedro one day and see a lot of mad people in dressed as pantomime characters filming their strange behaviour, do not panic, it will be the ADAPT Theatre Group filming one of our annual short comic videos which we insert into our pantomimes to give them a bit of local colour.
We have done more than ten of these now, each one moving the story of the panto on in interesting ways – from Sleeping Beauty’s prince hacking his way through a forest (AKA the local park) to Aladdin pleading with the local mayor to release his monkey from jail, we have managed to involve many well known local people and places to the delight of our audiences.
We have great fun doing it as well, as you can see from this picture of Captain Hook and Peter Pan fighting a duel next to the San Pedro boat roundabout, to release poor Wendy who has been tied to a nearby lamppost

Water Crisis threatens Vega Baja Winter Vegetable Season
The irrigation crisis in the Vega Baja region is threatening to disrupt the winter vegetable season. Despite the planting of key crops like potatoes, broccoli, and artichokes nearing completion, severe water restrictions are casting a shadow over the future of the agricultural sector.
The Orihuela Water Court has issued a general call for reduced water consumption as reservoirs continue to dwindle. The judge, Jose Bernabe, warns that water availability is not guaranteed, although he acknowledges the farmers' existing commitments with nurseries and the industry.
Antonio Angel Hurtado, president of the Alcachofa Vega Baja association, expresses optimism despite the challenges. He anticipates a 20% increase in artichoke planting area and emphasizes the importance of rainfall and efficient water management.
While market conditions for vegetables remain favourable, the water crisis is impacting farmers across the region. The situation is particularly dire for those relying solely on traditional irrigation methods, as the restrictions are affecting both orchard-based and field-grown vegetables.
The Confederation for the Segura Basin is facing criticism for its "lack of foresight." Asaja Alicante estimates that approximately 20,000 hectares of traditional irrigation and 10,000 hectares of fields will be affected by the irrigation cuts. The association predicts a shortage of vegetables in the markets, leading to higher prices for consumers.
The crisis underscores the urgent need for the Segura Basin Transfer project, which is seen as a crucial solution to address the region's water scarcity.

The Association of Neighbours, Cabo Roig and Lomas asked "how is it possible that having such a deplorable service the council can raise the costs by 340%."
OUTRAGE IN ORIHUELA COSTA AT 340% INCREASE IN COST OF WASTE COLLECTION
The rate will increase on the coast from 70 to 238.76 euros per annum, a measure that has been met with disbelief by many residents one of whom said rather perplexedly. “We are the ones that have the worst service and yet we are expected to pay the most."
The Association of Neighbours Cabo Roig and Lomas asked "how is it possible that having such a deplorable service the council can raise the costs by 340%."
The fact that an increase in the waste tax was coming had been well publicised, but there was no date for it’s implementation nor was the new rate known.
Now, answers have been provided to both questions as, starting next year, Orihuela residents and owners of residences in the municipality, will pay far more for their waste collection service, with everyone seeing an increase that has been more than doubled.
Until now the average was 70 euros per year per home. These figures will increase to 175.63 euros in the outlying areas and 202.53 in the city. But residents of the coast will pay the most: 238.76 euros per year. The payment, which is currently quarterly, will become half-yearly.
The proposal to update the tax, is currently in the hands of the Intervention Committee, with plans that it will be submitted to the Governing Board in the coming weeks prior to being voted on by all political groups in plenary session. The proposal, which is expected to be approved, will mean the first update in 21 years. The waste tax has been frozen since at least 2003, when Jos? Manuel Medina was mayor.
The increase in the tax, however, is not the result of an arbitrary political decision, but it is required by law. Town councils have until April next year to update their rates.
New government legislation requires that the cost of waste disposal is now covered completely by business and homeowners and not, as has been the case in many municipalities in the past, including Orihuela and Torrevieja, subsidised by local councils. The town council must now pass on the full cost of the service to the citizen.
Currently, the rate in Orihuela only covers 40% of the cost of the service where waste collection is particularly expensive. There is the age of the equipment, which often requires costly
repairs, there is a structural problem at the regional level in that all municipalities in the Vega Baja must pay not only for collection, but also for treatment at an authorised landfill and, in addition, for transfer to that landfill. The regional Consortium does not have its own treatment plant in the region for such waste, which forces the municipalities to pay for the transfer of rubbish to points as far away as landfills located in the outskirts of the city of Valencia.
The issue of a treatment plant has been pending since the beginning of this century, when its location on land near Torremendo was proposed. At that time, the opposition by the residents saw the project rejected, but it has now been resurrected with the same location suggested again.
Orihuela Council has already publicly expressed its opposition to that location stating that it is looking for an alternative site within the municipal area. If there were a regional plant, the savings would be significant. According to the estimates provided by the council, 150 euros are currently paid per tonne for disposal and transportation to Valencia, that amount could be reduced to 70 euros.
Costa schools crisis intensifies
The educational landscape in Orihuela Costa continues to be plagued by overcrowding and inadequate facilities, leading to growing frustration among parents and teachers. Despite repeated protests and demands, the situation has not improved.
PROTESTS AND DEMANDS
The educational community of CEIP Playas de Orihuela has taken to the streets to protest the overcrowding in their school and the lack of progress in constructing a third school in the area. They are demanding that the local authorities expedite the implementation of prefabricated classrooms as a temporary solution.
CRITICAL CONDITIONS
Both Los Dolses and Playas de Orihuela schools are operating beyond capacity, with class sizes exceeding recommended limits. Essential spaces like libraries, music rooms, and computer labs have been converted into classrooms to accommodate the growing number of students. Even basic services such as cleaning and maintenance are struggling to keep up with the increased demand.
A GROWING CRISIS
The situation is further exacerbated by the ongoing influx of new residents to the area, which is leading to a steady increase in school enrolment. Despite the efforts of local authorities, the construction of a third school has been delayed due to various factors, including budget constraints and site selection issues.
Indeed after numerous site changes by successive governments, each of which delayed the construction of the new prefabricated school, 18 month after the first site was earmarked we are now back to where we started, the original choice of plot on Calle Nispero.
SHORT-TERM SOLUTIONS AND LONGTERM CONCERNS
While the local government has announced plans to construct a new school, the immediate future remains uncertain. In the meantime, the educational community is proposing temporary measures such as transporting students to neighbouring schools to alleviate the pres-
sure on the existing facilities. However, the underlying issue remains: the rapid urbanization of Orihuela Costa has not been matched by adequate investments in public services, particularly education. Successive administrations have failed to address the growing demand for school places, resulting in a crisis that has persisted for years.
As the protests continue and the pressure mounts, it is imperative that the local authorities take decisive action to resolve the school crisis and ensure that every child in Orihuela Costa has access to a quality education.
Parents have promised to protest every Monday morning until they see some progress
Court confirms Life Sentence for Elche Baby Killer
An Elche court has upheld a life sentence for a man who brutally murdered his seven-month-old son. The man repeatedly beat the baby, causing fatal injuries. The child's mother was also sentenced to prison for child abuse due to her failure to protect her son.
The court found that the man's actions were intentional and not accidental, despite his claims of negligent homicide. The mother was held accountable for her failure to intervene and protect her son from abuse. The court also rejected the father's appeal for increased compensation, finding that the amount awarded was appropriate.
Torrevieja’s new Mental Health Centre
Torrevieja is nearing the completion of a new mental health centre. The facility, managed by the Adiem Association, will provide support for individuals with mental health issues. It will have a capacity of 30 patients and is expected to be operational in December. The project is funded by the Generalitat Valenciana, Torrevieja City Council, and the ADIEM Foundation.
The new centre is a significant addition to the area's mental health resources, as the current available support is insufficient. It
will offer a range of services, including therapy, social work, and education.
The centre is a result of public-private collaboration and is financed by the Generalitat Valenciana, Torrevieja City Council, and the ADIEM Foundation. Another association, AFA Torrevieja, is also awaiting the construction of a day centre for individuals with Alzheimer's disease.
Luxury car dumped in canal after Orihuela Costa robbery
A luxury car ended up submerged in the water transfer canal in Orihuela Costa. It was reported by a member of AVCRL.
The BMW car is submerged in the canal, in an area located between the municipalities of Orihuela and Pilar de la Horadada.
The Orihuela Local Police have said that it is a vehicle that was used on Wednesday night in an attempted robbery in Lomas de Campoamor.
The thieves, during their escape, abandoned the car in the canal that connects the La Pedrera reservoir with Campo de Cartagena.
The Civil Guard is investigating the matter while CHS workers are emptying the affected section of the canal in order to remove the car as soon as possible.

PILAR DE LA HORADADA TO BUILD 1,000 PILAR DE LA HORADADA TO BUILD 1,000 NEW
NEW TOURIST HOMES IN LO MONTE TOURIST HOMES IN LO MONTE
In Friday’s Plenary meeting, Pilar de la Horadada has provisionally approved the environmental evaluation for the reclassification of 292.881 square meters of rustic land destined for the construction of 1,086 tourist homes in the Lo Monte Playa sector.
The proposal has gone ahead with the favourable votes of the government with an absolute majority of the Partido Popular. The motion was also backed by Vox, in opposition, while the PSOE has abstained. The procedure must now be validated by the Generalitat.
The urbanisation will have a capacity to accommodate 2,700 new inhabitants in a municipality that has a population of just over 22,000. The plots are located between Avenida Federico Garcia Lorca in Mil Palmeras, Camping Lo Monte and Avenida Levante to the south and the coast.
The promoter, Santamar de la Vega, justifies the reclassification by stating that it is wasteland and "has not been used for any agricultural activity in the last 30 years. The developer also considers that it is necessary to "fill the area" because it already sits among other consolidated urbanisations.
The developer also states that there is no risk of flooding, despite the fact that the Generalitat Flood Plan (Patricova) considers that there is a structural risk due to a rambla that crosses the sector. However, the Segura Hydrographic Confederation and the Generalitat have both validated the builder’s report, although according to allegations of Friends of Sierra Escalona, there are several constructions in slope to channel runoff water.
The investment in the development to be carried out by Santamar, which has 98% of the ownership of the land, has been estimated at 21.7 million euros. The disbursement per year for the municipal accounts, to cover the basic
services of lighting, cleaning and maintenance of green areas, is around 410,000 euros, while the income for the Council from IBI is estimated at around 578,000 euros per year, in addition to the construction tax and initial licensing fees.
The proposed land reclassification was initiated by Santamar in mid-2015.
This Orihuela firm also has a partial plan in San Miguel de Salinas for 2,000 homes together with other projects in Orihuela and Torrevieja to develop commercial areas, in addition to promoting the skyscrapers of Los Naufragos, also in Torrevieja.
ALLEGED
SCRAP METAL FRAUD
BY ORIHUELA COUNCIL EMPLOYEES
The municipal storage compound
Orihuela courts have opened an investigation into the illegal sale of scrap metal by council employees that has allegedly been taken from a municipal storage compound on the Molins road, next to the Local Police Headquarters.
The fraud is said to have been going on since at least 2019 although it is thought to date back much further. Staff acknowledge that inventories of scrap deposits into the municipal warehouse are not maintained so there is no record of the incomings or the sales or the subsequent disposals.
According to the Spanish Newspaper Diario Informacion, the managers sent staff to sell scrap pieces that had been withdrawn from use and stored in the municipal warehouse. The staff visited several companies - in the Poligono de Puente Alto, Almoradi, Los
Montesinos and on the road to AlicanteMurcia - and after they had made the sale, they passed the cash to the manager who made free use of it, without transferring it to the municipal accounts.
According to several witnesses, as Christmas was approaching, every year, the manager ordered that the metal elements be taken to a local scrapyard in order to boost the fund. The money, thought to be in the region of 7,600 euros, was spent on staff lunches, as well as the installation of two air conditioners, which cost 1,300 euros, and two televisions, that were placed in the rest areas used by the gangs of both masons and gardeners.
In May 2023, a Treasury report found that the municipal accounts have no record of any income from the sale of scrap.
SO WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE ELDERS AND THE ELDERLY?
Call it a trick question if you will, but you still need to come up with an answer as to what you believe divides the elders and the elderly in society. Like so many other imponderables, it depends on who you ask – and where.
Let us first take a look at the elders; what is this group, what is their faculty and what do they stand for? For centuries, in almost every culture, particularly in the East and in biblical teaching, older adults were placed on a pedestal of wisdom and respect.
The elders play a vital role in preserving and transmitting knowledge, traditions, customs, beliefs and general know how. The generation coming after elders can tap into a wealth of knowledge thus avoiding an awful lot of trial and error.
Today, elders are still at the head of government in most countries, chief executives in manufacturing and top dogs in business and finance.
Our popular past-president and former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mary Robinson, is the current chair of ‘The Elders’; an influential group which was formed in 2007 and included such luminaries as Nelson Mandela and Jimmy Carter. The movement is based on the Confucian teachings that most wisdom comes with age. Hopefully the above paragraphs capture a little of the vital importance of the elders in society. So, moving on, let us now take a look at the section of today’s society known as ‘the elderly.’
The elderly are that inevitable generation of pensionable age – although a significant percentage continues to be notable business people, farmers, politicians, clergy, judges, broadcasters, writers and so on. In other words, the elderly still are at the forefront in the running of our country.
NEWS IN BRIEF
Chamber of Commerce Awards
The Orihuela Chamber is finalising preparations for it’s Awards Gala, which will bring together much of the business and commercial fabric of the city. This year it will take place on 3 October in the Diocesan College of Santo Domingo.
But hold on a minute … isn’t that what the elders always did – being equipped with most of the knowledge and know how? So, why are there elders and elderly?
In a lot of people’s mind, the elderly are becoming the next big problem for society. You see, the way things are heading, there are going to be too many of us – which, allegedly, will cripple the generation coming after us with an unfair tax burden.
Instead of being valued and respected, the elderly are already being looked upon in some quarters as the problem that will bankrupt the HSE, be constantly in someone’s way, and probably set fire to the chimney. The pension system will collapse under the weight of too many ‘elderly’, there will be insufficient availability of nursing-home beds, and nobody knows what to do about the problem.
When the motor car was invented there was a widely expressed concern as to how the planet might manage all the redundant horses. It is the same now with the elderly. We may even be in the same category as ‘rescue donkeys’, corralled somewhere and being showered with kindness by committed elderly lovers.
Apart from the odd contrary elderly one, unhappy in captivity, most of us will be docile and friendly. We can expect to be fed and comforted with baby-talk. Harmless beings,– but like the rescued donkeys, good for nothing!
Western cultures are ageist. People are living longer and this fact should be celebrated for all its positives, instead of browbeating over the pension funds. I read somewhere of this fear being labeled as the ‘grey tsunami.’
Starting here and now, it is time the elders answered back. The word ‘elderly’ is herewith banished from dialogue. One word will

in future cover my age group; ‘ELDERS!’
We are the generation who built the society we all live in. We carry the wisdom and produced the knowledge that made things better for the generations coming after us. Individuals, communities, countries and the world are improved by the furrows we ploughed.
Don’t judge us because we can’t programme the smart phone, scorn social media and refuse to store stuff in a ‘cloud.’ Some of us drew our first cat on old ration books –because we came into a world at war. We have lived through eight different decades, two different centuries and two different millenniums.
We gave and took something from every one of those years. Life was tough – but we were tougher.
We remember our first radio and hearing the first GAA commentary from Michael O Hehir. We travelled a distance to make a phone call;

moved from vinyl records through cassettes and CDs; moved from hand-written letters to fax and emails. So if we don’t give two hoots about gigabytes or megabytes maybe it’s because we cherish something more important.
TB, Polio, Covid and work-related accidents thinned out what are now the elders. We have lived through more changes than had occurred in the entirety before we were born. Every elder under the sun can truthfully claim to be adaptable. But maybe we have had enough – and if we appear nonplussed over the advantages of your ‘cloud’ – maybe it is because we learned how to store the important stuff in our heart.

ATTACK ON ELCHE TEACHER
A 16-year-old boy has been arrested after allegedly assaulting a teacher at a Secondary School (IES) in Elche. According to police sources, the incident occurred at the IES La Asuncion on Monday, when the teenager jumped over the school fence shouting that they wanted to hit his little brother. The aggressor is not a student at the school, so the teacher explained to him that he could not be on the premises. The teacher also tried to ask the younger brother if he had any problems, but the 16-year-old boy told him not to say anything and attacked and spat at the teacher.
The case is now being handled by the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office.

The taxi situation in Orihuela Costa has reached a critical point. The lack of available licenses has led to long waiting times for customers and,as a result, many passengers have turned to illegal taxi services.
Professional taxi drivers are concerned about the increasing number of pirate taxis operating in the area. These unlicensed drivers, often using vans or unmarked private vehicles, are offering services without proper permits. They are particularly targeting foreign tourists, who may not be aware of the risks involved.
The illegal taxi drivers are not only competing unfairly with licensed drivers but are also evading taxes and insurance requirements. This poses a significant safety risk for passengers.
Local taxi associations are calling for stricter enforcement from the police. They believe that with the help of the authorities, they can crack down on illegal taxi services and ensure the safety and well-being of passengers.
CIUDADANOS PROPOSE JOINT MANAGEMENT OF BEACH SERVICES
Orihuela’s Ciudadanos municipal group has proposed a motion to create a consortium between Orihuela, Pilar de la Horadada, Torrevieja, and Guardamar to manage beach services.
The Costa Blanca is a significant tourist destination in the province of Alicante, with 244 km of coastline. The four municipalities in the Vega Baja region share a common socio-economic perspective and can benefit from a unified approach to managing coastal resources and public services. They currently enjoy 26 blue flags for tourist quality out of a total of 69 in the entire province, that is, almost one in four flags that fly on the beaches and coves of the Alicante coast.
All four municipalities offer similar beach services, including maintenance, cleaning, seasonal services, lifeguarding, beaconing, signposting, accessory services, and have a total of 26 blue flags for tourist quality.
To maintain high-quality beach services, a joint effort among the municipalities can help rationalize the use of resources and achieve better results with available means.
PHARMACIES SUFFERING SHORTAGE OF MEDICINES
With 828 medicines currently experiencing supply problems across the country, pharmacies in the region are particularly short of those required to treat anxiety, hypertension, iron deficiency, which is behind many cases of anaemia, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The lack of drugs and the difficulties of economic sustainability of pharmacies, especially in rural areas, have become the most important problems in the sector, which celebrated World Pharmacist Day last Wednesday. Professionals point out that the underlying problem, which requires profound reform, is centred around the pharmaceutical supply chain.
In addition to the shortage of medicines, pharmacies face economic challenges as they see their ability to generate sufficient income limited. Many pharmacies rely on the sale of unregulated products, such as parapharmacy, orthopedic and optical products. However, competition from large chains and online platforms, which can offer lower prices, threatens the viability of local pharmacies.

MAIN TORREVIEJA ARTERY UPGRADE
Resurfacing work and improvements to accessibility are moving ahead in Torrevieja, marking a new milestone with the completion of the works on one of the town’s most important arteries, Calle Diego Ramirez Pastor.
The works, which have been carried out by Eiffage, have involved an investment of close to 200,000 euros. The work has covered the stretch from Avenida de la Estacion to Calle Apolo.
The execution, which slowed down during the summer, was divided into two phases. The first was between Avenida de la Estacion and Calle Orihuela, which finished at the beginning of the high season, in June, while just recently, the final segment was finished between Calle Orihuela and Calle Apolo.
Prior to the work, there were many pavements lacking ramps for people with reduced mobility. The new ramps also have markings and guides for blind people. In total, according to the City Council, 44 actions have been carried out to improve accessibility, thus renovating existing pedestrian crossings and creating new ones. In addition, they point out, the improvements have seen the creation of new means for people with reduced mobility.
In parallel, an area of approximately 15,000 square metres has also been resurfaced during the two phases, including signage. However, the tree pits, which are too small for the size of some trees, have not been touched.
The only thing left to complete in the Re asphalting Plan is the
work on Calle Caballero de Rodas, between Apolo and Galeon, where work resumed this September. There, entire sections of pavements are being renovated, taking advantage of the fact that Agamed is also upgrading the entire sewage network.
Cost of La Mata sports pavilion increases by 616,000 euros
Torrevieja council has approved the additional costs that will ultimately be incurred for the renovation of the Nelson Mandela stadium and the construction of the new sports pavilion in La Mata.
In the municipal rugby stadium, councillor Federico Alarc?n said that the cost of the works, which were awarded at 886,587 euros (VAT included), will increase by 109,755 euros, and the execution of the works will be extended for a period of two months. The reason is that problems have been detected in the structure of the stands which require reinforcement, and a good part of the irrigation network and the tiles in the showers and changing rooms will also have to be changed.
There is also an increase in the cost of the La Mata pavilion, which is due, according to Alarcon, to the fact that the chosen plot did not have a dividing wall and the maintenance room was moved to gain more space upstairs to place multipurpose rooms for directed sports activities. All of this increases the cost of the contract signed with Orthem by 615,709 euros, without the need for an extension of the term.
Thinking of Gifting a Vehicle?
Vehicle donations are not uncommon, whether as a gift to friends or family, through inheritances, or cases of separations and divorces, for example, and although this is a perfectly acceptable process, there are special conditions when it comes to changing vehicle ownership.
VEHICLE DONATIONS
Donating a vehicle to a family member or acquaintance is a special case of selling it at zero cost.
Both the giver and receiver must complete, sign, and date a donation agreement, and although you can create your own, it must contain:
Giver's details: Name and surname or company name and your D NI/NIE/CIF.
Receiver’s details: Name and surname or company name and your D NI/NIE/CIF.
Vehicle data: Make, model and registration number.
Date and time the contract is signed.
Inheritance and Gift Tax must be paid, Impuesto de Sucesiones y Donaciones (ISD). ISD must be paid in the Autonomous Community of the person who will receive the vehicle and who keeps proof of payment, exemption or non-subjection of inheritance tax in which the vehicle is identified (number plate or chassis).
You should check the conditions for settling the Inheritance and Gift Tax (ISD) in your Autonomous Community.
You can then complete the Change of Ownership procedure at the DGT, either by making an appointment or, the easiest way, is online through the DGT website.
You must remember that the vehicle must be insured and have a valid ITV before you drive it.
INHERITANCES
In the case of a vehicle that comes from an inheritance due to the death of the owner, it will be necessary to change the ownership of the vehicle.
You must first obtain the proof of inheritance. With the prior agreement of all the heirs of the vehicle, you must be designated as the sole heir of the vehicle. Fill out and sign the declaration of responsibility for change of ownership due to the death of the owner of a vehicle certifying this.
The recipient pays the ISD tax and can then carry out the vehicle transfer with the DGT as mentioned above.
PROVISIONAL CUSTODIAN
In the case of a vehicle whose owner has died, and does not yet have a definitive beneficiary, it is possible to inform a provisional custodian until the inheritance is settled and the vehicle is definitively awarded: There is a special form for this you can get
from the DGT, and along with the responsible declaration, you must submit the application form to be the provisional custodian of the vehicle.
If the Vehicle Registry does not record the death of the owner, you must also provide the death certificate.
SEPARATION, DIVORCE OR BREAKUP
As a result of a breakup, separation or divorce, the agreement reached, whether by mutual agreement or court order, may include the change of ownership of one of the vehicles owned by the couple.
To change the ownership of the vehicle due to separation, divorce or breakup: You must be in possession of and provide a
There are special conditions when it comes to changing vehicle ownership.
document proving the agreement of the break-up, separation or divorce, which includes the details of the vehicle whose owner is changing: Court ruling or regulatory agreement.
You mist then pay the transfer tax. You must justify the payment, exemption or non-subjection of the Property Transfer Tax, Impuesto de Transmisiones Patrimoniales (IPT), modelo 620 or modelo 621 form, as appropriate, in the autonomous community where you have your tax domicile. In almost all Autonomous Communities you can do it easily and electronically.
You can then carry out the transfer with the DGT.
MASSIVE PROTESTS AT L ENIENT SENTENCES FOR BUSINESSMEN IN CHILD PROSTITUTION NETWORK
Anew protest on the streets of Murcia was held on Tuesday to express the social rejection of the court sentence that allows businessmen who prostituted minors to avoid jail time.
The demonstration, which was held next to the Palace of Justice, marched along the Gran Via. The demonstrators carried banners with slogans 'It's not justice, sexist sentences' or 'It's not all men, but it's always a man'.
The Board of Prosecutors also held its first meeting on Tuesday to discuss the sentences. The seven businessmen found guilty of paying for sexual relations with minors between 15 and 17 years of age, initially faced sentences totalling up to 25 years in prison per person - four years for each contact.
However their defence team negotiated with the prosecution a way out that allows them to remain free thanks to an agreement that reduces their sentences to five months in prison for each of these crimes. The agreement provides that the sentences will be suspended, as none of them exceed two years.
However, criticism from various social movements and the controversy that arose
after the verdict was announced made the resolution of this case reconsidered.
The week after the trial, the Regional Prosecutor, Jose Luis Diaz Manzanera, announced a meeting of the Board to discuss the suspension of the sentence and the serving of the prison sentence. They are expected to reach an agreement before October 7, the date set for a hearing in which the judge will finally decide
Although the prosecution had asked for jail time, each of the businessmen found guilty received a suspended sentence.

After the matches were concluded the Presentations were made by Valencian Delegate Bob Donnelly together with the relevant sponsors of each event who Bob thanked for their support of yet another successful tournament Bob also thanked Competition Secretary John O’Brien who, after running the competition for the last six years, is standing down to allow new blood to take over.

SAN MIGUEL GOLF SOCIETY
CAPTAIN'S DAY AND PRESENTATION DINNER 2024
Captain’s Day at Vistabella teed off in spectacular fashion Wednesday on with the traditional shot gun start – Phil de Lacey, Peter Turbefield and Sandra Dibble managed a chaotic 45 minutes prior with entry fees, score cards, Twos, subs, shirts and dinner fees being paid and sorted. Everybody got to their correct tees in time on a slightly cooler day than we had all been used to in the preceding months of July and August.
There were some fantastic scores recorded with Brian Fairbrother winning the day with an exceptional 43 points thus winning a fantastic prize of a two night break in Mallorca at the Steigenberger Hotel & Resort Camp de Mar at Andratx Golf courtesy of Michaela at Golf Hot Spots. Brian also won in Silver. Dave Rowe won in Gold with a fabulous 42 points and Richard Cleary in Bronze with another fabulous 42 points.
Everybody headed back to Flannigan’s bar for the presentation of various prizes for each hole –too many to mention and they all received their wine and sleeve of balls with the lucky nearest the pins and longest drives winning an extra prize of a golf towel kindly donated by Gary at Kameeleon who have also done our amazing new golf shirts. Everybody enjoyed a few drinks, some lovely food and a few laughs.
Then on to the serious stuff as the AGM was held directly afterwards. The minutes of which will be distributed soon. We all went home tired but happy, fed and watered. Then a few days later we had the
Captain’s Dinner and Presentation
A lovely room and Cava reception awaited nearly 80 guests at Meson el Prado in San Miguel on Friday night. Pile, Galla and their staff provided amazing service and wonderful food (especially the Oven Lamb). With our outgoing Captain, Darren Strugnell, taking centre stage, he eloquently handed over to our incoming Captain, Lee Eastman, who presented an equally eloquent speech – they both welcomed Mick Pryke as the new ViceCaptain. They were both applauded loudly. They thanked everybody especially the new Secretary, Sandra Dibble, and presented her with a wonderful bouquet of flowers.
The Awards Ceremony: And the 2024 Winners are...
The President’s Trophy: Alan Bryce with Barry Roehrig as runner up Club Championships: John Osborne (Gross) and Paul Lambert (Nett)
Bogey’s Shield: Phil de Lacey with Tony Smale as runner up
Eclectic: Adrian Roberts with Mick Pryke as runner up
SMGS Annual Away Trip: John Osborne with Mick Pryke as runner up
Order of Merit: John Osborne
I think we can agree that John Osborne needed a truck to take his trophies home…. Well done and also a big thank you to him for organising a gift donation from Galaxy Golf to the raffle.
Many of the members donated some wonderful prizes to the raffle raising over ˇ600. Bottles of booze, gorgeous handmade cards, a fantas-
tic meal voucher, a beautiful handmade leather head cover, IPTV subscription, tees, golf hats and Galaxy Golf vouchers and finally a big old cash prize, apologies if any were missed out. A big thank you to Barry Roehrig, Peter Turbefield and Macker (aka Alan Macdonald) for doing their thing selling the tickets. And another big thank you to Barry Roehrig, our retired Secretary, who still does so much in organising things in general. We also wished our member, Rod East, a very happy birthday.
No Captain’s Dinner would be complete without some music and a little dancing, and the night ended with a bang – literally, as fireworks lit up the sky outside due to the Fiesta being held in San Miguel –there was only a little time left after all the presentations but Gavin Riddall (Albatross Golf) did his best to keep everybody’s spirits high in what time was left. Everybody went home happy and some a little tipsy!
Final Thoughts
Captain's Day 2024 was one for the books. From the well-played golf to the lively banter afterward, it was a perfect blend of tradition, competition, and fun. A huge thank you to our Captain, Darren Strugnell, the organising committee, and all the participants who made it such a spectacular day. We can’t wait to see what next year brings! Until then, may your drives be long, your putts true, and your golf balls always find the fairway!
SAN LUIS BOWLS CLUB
VALENCIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS
On Saturday morning, after the heavy rain had finished, play went ahead – albeit an hour late.
In the Ladies Singles Semi-Final,the match between Jane Hamill & Barbara Louis was a real nip and tuck one.
After some excellent play from both ladies, which was great to watch,Barbara pulled ahead to beat Jane.
In the other Semi-Final,after more excellent play,Mary Dyer (EI) beat Lisa Bonsor (GL).
In the mixed pairs Scott Malden & Sandra Burrows did well to reach the Semi Final but there, unfortunately, lost to Pete & Lisa Bonsor.
In the Mixed Rinks (on Saturday p.m.) Ian Kenyon,Stewart Hamill,Sue Kenyon & Jane Hamill put up a good fight in the Semi Finals but were beaten by Pete & Lisa Bonsor,Peta
Rhodes & Freddie Willie.
Sometimes it’s just not your day!!
On Tuesday afternoon we had the excitement of watching the Ladies & Men’s Singles and the Men’s pairs; there were some superb displays of bowling to keep the spectators on the edge of their seats, trying to watch 3 matches at once!
Our San Luis Finalist in the Ladies Singles; Barbara Louis, worked hard against Mary Dyer but in the end it was Mary who won through and took the trophy.
Well done to all our competitors who took part this year, they put up a good fight against some tough opposition,so here’s to next year!
In the meantime we have the winter season with cooler weather to look forward to,and our league matches to play through from next week; have FUN everyone.
Barbara Louis worked hard in the Ladies final but narrowly missed out to Mary Dyer
THADER CLOSE IN ON LEADERS AS THEY SEND UD CARCAIXENT PACKING
Thader began the day lying 6th in the Community league, having started the new campaign unbeaten after 3 games.UD Carcaixent, meanwhile, were rock bottom on 1 point, although that point came last week,so at least they were facing Thader on the back of a positive result.
early lead and that perfect start.
Thader continued to call the shots with the goal allowing playmaker Lloyd to show off his skills but following Adnans late challenge on Fran the game began to boil over. Lloyd was just inches wide from the resultant 25 yard free kick.
This was a rare ‘early evening’outing for Thader fans inside Moi Gomez stadium, but in all probability, future home matches will revert to their usual late morning kick offs.
Raul Mora must be pleased at the way his youthful Thader side have shown strong resilience and was certainly hoping for much of the same in front of an enthusiastic home crowd. And it was an energetic start that got Thader quickly out of the blocks, forcing a good save from Perez in the Carcaixent goal as early as the first minute.
The initial pressure continued with Amin going close for the home side moments later and then, while latecomers were still finding their seats,Amin latched onto a loose ball midway into the Carcaixent half, before driving to the edge of the box, from where he hit a strike that had Perez clutching at thin air,to give Thader an
CARP R US
ANGLING
It seemed like a good idea at the time, but maybe it wasn?t in wasn?t so good in the end. It has been over a year since Carp-R-Us fished the 17-25 stretch at El Bosquet, but in recent weeks decent weights have been returned from this section so it was included for Round 7 of the Summer/Autumn Series. Unfortunately weights were poor, with all but one of the top weights coming from the 1A-7 section.
Overall winner was Vinnie Smith on peg 2. Vinnie weighed in a creditable 20.33kg using the pole (unfortunately we don?t know what bait). Second from peg 1A was the ever consistent Willy Moons who fished his usual feeder tactics to catch 12.18kg, Third from peg 23 was Russ Davidson who managed to catch more than all the other anglers on that section totalled together, 11.30kg. Russ used pole and pellet. Fourth was Steve Fell with 10.14kg from peg 6 caught on pole with bread or maggot.
Oh, and we had to endure temperatures that reached 35°c…in late September. Information about the club can be found on its website www.carp-r-us.weebly.com
Miguel was the second visitor into the book when he pulled back Tremino who was making haste down the wing before Thader suffered a blow with goalscorer Amin limping off with what appeared to be a hamstring problem.
In a half largely dominated by the home side the visitors were confined to just a single shot from Victor, which Chema turned comfortably around the post.
Well,if the first period had seen Thader in the driving seat, during the second they kicked Carcaixent off the bus,as they extended their winning margin to 5 goals without reply,in a remarkably entertaining second 45.
Again, the visitors were contained to a single effort as Sheriy,Lloyd,Philp and substitute Raul put them to the sword.
Sheriy’s goal came after 70 minutes,a tap in after the industrious Philip had hit the post.
Then we had to wait all of 15 minutes
before skipper Lloyd chested in a corner at the near post.
Philip got his just reward on 85 minutes when he rounded keeper Perez and then the same player turned provider for substitute Raul Sanchez who sidefooted home from close range to make it 5.
For Thader this was their best result in recent years, and certainly in the short time they have competed in the LLiga Comunitat FFCV,Grupo Sur.
The win lifts them up into 3rd place, just above local rivals SC Torrevieja on goal difference ,after Torry’s 2-1 win at L’Olleria CF,their goals coming from Perez and Munoz.
Next Sunday Thader revert to their more normal kick off time of 11.30 am at the Moi Gomez Stadium when the opposition is Calpe.
Check the club Facebook page for further information.

EXERCISE CAN DO YOU SERIOUS DAMAGE
Throughout our lives we engage in rigorous activities of all different types. We push ourselves to the limit of our endurance under the guise of keeping fit. The damage to our bodies only becomes apparent in our 60s and 70s. Hip and knee replacements, arthritis, rheumatism, back pain to name but a few. Because we have these problems carried over from our overactive past, we tend to compensate in later life by doing as little as possible. Like a pendulum, we move from youthful overactivity to a sedentary lifestyle now.
There is nothing we can do about the overactivity of our younger years but there is plenty we can do about our level of activity now. Gone are the days of hard workouts, jogging or lifting heavy weights.
We certainly need to exercise, and EASY Exercise is the answer. Walking is excellent but the state of footpaths and roads make them potentially dangerous places where we can easily trip and fall.
If we tend to be overweight, the whole weight of our bodies is pounding at our hip, knee and ankle joints.
The best exercise for us is exercise where there is no body weight on our joints, allowing our muscles to flex and safely exercise.
At EASY Exercise Cabo Roig we have three 45minute exercise circuits to choose from. The temperature in the Easy Exercise suite is perfect all year round, cooled in the summer, heated in the winter and well aired in the spring and autumn.
Here you will find like-minded people in the same age bracket and with similar needs and desires.
At EASY Exercise Cabo Roig there is a very low risk of injury with no impact on joints. You don’t need special clothes or footwear; all you need is a bath towel and socks for hygiene purposes.
The basic principle behind EASY Exercise is that muscles need to move but it doesn’t matter if you move them with hard exercise or a physiotherapist moves them or an EASY Exercise machine moves them for you, what is important is that your muscles move, not how they are moved.
Each machine is powered by a motor and gearbox so there is no heavy lifting, running or cycling. Few even break a bead of sweat during a 45-minute session.
EASY Exercise offer you a FREE TRIAL so you can see for yourself if you will benefit from one of our three circuits Just call or whatsapp 663 771 345 to arrange a suitable appointment. EASY Exercise is open weekdays from 09:00 – 13:00. The main benefits of EASY Exercise are better movement, breathing, flexibility and walking with reduced joint and muscle pain, tiredness and stiffness. CALL 663 771 345 TODAY, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. FOR FREE TRIAL CALL OR WHATSAPP 663 771 345 You can even bring a friend.Your free trial will take a maximum of one hour.
EASY EXERCISE has many benefits, the most important are reduced muscle and back pain, greater mobility to be able to walk or climb stairs and increased flexibility of movement.
Regular exercise, twice or three times a week,at the SOPHIA EASY EXERCISE CENTRE will improve your quality of life enormously.
