La Roqueta beach in Guardamar del Segura took another life on Saturday, bringing the number of deaths to four at the same spot in just three days.
On Saturday afternoon a 77-year-old man has died while bathing, according to sources from the Emergency Information and Coordination Centre (CICU), with the emergency services receiving the notification at 3:30 p.m.
The victim was pulled out of the water by other bathers who were on the beach, but he was in an unconscious state, despite attempts to revive him.
This is the same beach where 2 brave heroes, a 52-year-old Briton and a 46-year-old man from Poland, gave their lives just 24 hours earlier, on Friday morning, as they attempted to rescue two children, aged 6 and 7, who had found themselves in difficulty.
On Saturday afternoon paramedics carried out resuscitation manoeuvres on the bather but there has been no response.
This was the fourth death on La Roqueta beach in just three days. As we already reported, a 68-year-old Israeli man died on Thursday, and on Friday two other men, the Briton and the Pole, lost their lives while trying to rescue two children, who were finally able to get out of the water.
It is not known whether either of the two men who lost their lives on Friday had any relationship to the two children.

GUARDAMAR’S DEADLY BEACH
Friday’s incident took place around midday.
There was some initial confusion with early rumours suggesting that up to eight people had lost their lives in the incident. Fortunately, this proved to be untrue.
Following the rescue three other people, two men aged 39 and 22 and a woman aged around 20, also had to receive health care, the first of them with symptoms of drowning. All of them were part of a group of bathers who jumped into the water when they saw that the children were in in serious trouble.
When he heard of the Friday drownings the Guardamar del Segura Mayor, Jose Luis Saez, brought the monthly Plenary meeting to a halt. He said: “We have now had three deaths from drowning in the last 24 hours at Guardamar’s beaches. The prevailing sea conditions are very dangerous, with strong dragging currents making bathing unadvisable.”
The mayor confirmed that the lifeguard service and the rescue plan is not due to be put in place by the Guardamar council, until 15 June.
With four deaths in the last 48 hours, there have now been nine drownings in Alicante Province within the first seven days of June.
Nearby to Friday's tragedies, a 76-year-old Irishman drowned on Monday at Cala Capitan in Orihuela Costa.
The other drowning victims include a Belgian pensioner and a Moldovan man. Two other bathers also passed away on Monday in Calpe and Elche.
Another swimmer in La Vila Joiosa this Saturday morning had better luck as he was able to be rescued in time and although the 69-year-old man was unconscious he was stabilized by the emergency services on the Basseta de l'Oli beach in the historic capital of the Marina Baixa.
La Roqueta beach is located in the southern tip of the Guardamar town centre and, like the rest of the municipality’s coastline, is still without a lifeguard and rescue service.
The season begins next Saturday, June 15 and will end on October 15.
On Saturday a maximum temperature of 25.9 degrees was recorded in Guardamar, which
encouraged those who spent the day on the beach to get into the water. The wind had maximum gusts of 33 kilometres per hour, according to the Valencian Meteorological Association (Avamet).
RAISING FUNDS WITH CRESCENDO
Crescendo International Choir performed a concert at La Siesta Evangelical Church in Torrevieja on Thursday, May 30, entertaining the packed venue with popular songs from movies and musicals. ëACAPTIVE WIFEí
By David Whitney c2024
His love for her consumed him
If you can call it love at all
He wanted to possess her
Like a trophy on the wall
He made all her decisions
He kept her close at hand
Her family tried to warn her
Though she couldn't understand
And gradually her confidence
Was gone like passing time
She lost touch with her family
Each day a hill to climb
He kept her like a prisoner
A bird within a cage
He fed her words of precious love
Like reading from a page
Her life was not her own at all
He planned each breaking day
He made her wear what he picked out
She didn't have a say
And slowly she sank further down
Her pretty face now gaunt
A shadow of the girl she was
His fun now just to taunt
And then one day she saw the light
And saw what she'd become
An object in a love less home
Detached from everyone
So silently she crept away
While he was sleeping tight
Dressed only in pyjamas
She fled into the moonlight
Courage not her strong point
But now fearing for her life
She rued the day she'd said "I do"
And became a captive wife.

Local Police were first on the scene
POTHOLES ARE BECOMING A DESIGN FEATURE OF ORIHUELA COSTA ROADS
If you’re a driver in the Orihuela Costa you could be forgiven for thinking potholes have become a design feature of our local roads.
Not only are they are getting worse, because we’re not spending enough to maintain them, but until the council and the contractor resolve their differences, despite the promised million euro budget, they are unlikely to get any better.
Currently we have the ridiculous situation whereby the council is threatening the contractor, Zaplana Caselles, with a 126,634 euro fine for breach of contract, while at the same time owing the same contractor the sum of 350,000 euros in unpaid invoices, for work undertaken between September and May.
The reason for the proposed fine is that the contractor has not built the 1,174 square metre warehouse and storage
area, office area, staff changing rooms and toilets that were included in the tender specifications. Although this is a serious breach, it is not enough to terminate the contract, with the councillor for infrastructures, Víctor Valverde (PP), proposing the a penalty of a 126,634 euro fine instead.
So it would appear that until this impasse is resolved, the invoices paid and the warehouse built, there will be no meaningful improvement to the Orihuela Costa roads.
While the government team is no longer the same, the problem is, and has been since the start of the contract in 2020, a lack of supply of materials that are provided by the council and the unacceptable delay in payments.
The state of the Orihuela Costa roads is one of the issues that attracts the most
complaints from residents.
Indeed AVCRL, the Asociación de vecinos Cabo Roig y Lomas-Orihuela Costa, has again written to the mayor calling for urgent repairs to Calles Carlos Torres, Orihuela and Torrevieja, in the Torrezenia urbanisation, asphalting costs to be met from the 60,000 euros allocated in the participatory budgets that were approved in 2019.
The roads are in a regrettable state, and in recent weeks they have deteriorated even more, very much in line with a similar worsening in the management of the area by this council.
Currently our politicians seem to do little more than apply Band-Aids at best, as they endlessly postpone the many problems that we see declining on an almost daily basis on the coast.

Town Hall Demonstration to highlight critical state of Orihuela Costa Schools
Orihuela Costa Parents are encouraging all residents to join them at the Orihuela Costa Town Hall in Playa Flamenca at 1.15 pm next Monday17 June in a demonstration about the lack of quality education on the coast.
As the mayor and his government continue to dither over the location of the new junior and infants
school the education of children in the area is being put at risk.
Please give up just 15 minutes of your time and join other concerned residents who feel that the council is not doing enough to safeguard the future of our children.
Successive councils have now had 18 months to allocate a site for a new prefabricated school which has long been intended to ease
the pressure on the dire situations in Playas de Orihuela and Los Dolses schools for both the children and a large number of dedicated teachers.
While Playas de Orihuela should have about 540 students, it currently has over 800, and Los Dolses, with a recommended level of 388, is at around 710.
The situation has forced Los Dolses to sacrifice even the teachers’ restroom and hold classes in corridors.
And all the time this situation is allowed to continue by the mayor Pepe Vegara, the Councilor for Education, Vicente Pina, and the rest of the government team, the early education of children in their particularly important development years, is failing them badly.

MELODYMAKERS CHARITYDONATION
Thanks to the Melody Makers singing group their chosen charity "DonacionsTorrevieja" will be receiving 204 euros after their successful performance at the Marina Bar calle de las Rosas Torrevieja on Thurs 6th June.
Abucket collection by fund raiser
Lorraine Whitney proved to be extremely lucrative raising the said amount which will go to food for the less fortunate particularly children who go without breakfast during the summer school holidays.
With the bar decorated with Union Jacks to commemorate WW2 the group sang 'We'll Meet Again" which of course had audience participation.
Thank you Melody Makers, your set of songs proved to be successful in raising this very acceptable amount for this worthwhile charity.
UNCERTAINTY FOR OVER 100 ORIHUELA SPORTS STAFF
The future of more than 100 staff that manage the Orihuela sports centres hangs in the balance as the management company, Clequali, according to the workers, is experiencing serious financial difficulties because of unpaid council invoices.
Some contracts have already been ended, and they demand that the Orihuela Council steps in
to save their jobs.
However, after a week of uncertainty, the workers have now been told by Mayor Pepe Vegara, that their salaries and the continuity of the service are guaranteed.
In addition, the mayor has announced that the tender for the new contract will go out this week.
Cyberkiosk aims to speed up Council Administration
The Torrevieja Town Hall now has a touch screen cyberkiosk available for public use, situated in the lobby of the town hall. It was formally inaugurated on Friday by the mayor, Eduardo Dolón, and the Councillor of Innovation, Ricardo Recuero, but already it has been used by over 600 people conducting town hall business, seeking personal data, printing certificates, documents or paying fines.
Currently there are town hall staff on hand to help you through the procedure, but we are assured that it is as simple as using a mobile phone.
Bogus priest scams local parishes
The Alicante Civil Guard has arrested a man for pretending to be a priest as he went about the business of scamming other priests. He was arrested following complaints from the parish priests of the churches in Catral and Bigastro, from whom he obtained more than 15,000 euros.
During the investigations, officers discovered that he had a dozen prosecutions pending across Spain for similar crimes. In Asturias alone he was accused of nine scams using the same operation committed during 2020.
TORREVIEJA PHARMACY FINED
The Council has fined a town centre pharmacy 5,692 euros for not complying with a demolition order for 3 steps that encroach onto the public footpath at its main access from the street. The steps have been in place since 2008.It is just one of the dozens of urban sanctions that are signed monthly in the municipality and that go unnoticed. Municipal surveyors say that the main access needs to be adapted with the steps inside the premises.

Campoverde Gardens Open Day Basks in the Summer Sunshine
The village of Campoverde celebrated the 10th anniversary of its annual Open Garden Day on May 28th. The sun shone and hundreds of people toured round six interesting local gardens ranging from the small to very large.
It was a hugely enjoyable day with keen gardeners and those who just like to see nice gardens, converging from all over the Costa Blanca area.
The Open Garden Day is organised by James McAllister from Campoverde Church and James says it has two main purposes. “Firstly, we want to celebrate gardens and the craft of gardening. Secondly, Open Garden day helps us to raise funds for the Church’s work with young people in
general, and our annual Summer Club in particular”.
In addition to enjoying the gardens, whilst benefitting the work of the Church, many of the gardens also offered a range of refreshments ranging from cream teas, to wine and tea and biscuits. As an added bonus one garden was selling lovely seedlings and cuttings that visitors could take home to beautify their own gardens.
Commenting on the success of the day, James said: “When we closed the gardens at 4pm all the gardeners were exhausted after showing people round and answering questions. But we were pleased that God had provided us with wonderful weather and beautiful gardens to share with others; and we are sure everyone went away happy”.
CHILDREN’S TRAFFIC PARK CLOSES FOR SUMMER
During the last year, following its renovation and reopening, the Children's Traffic Park in Torrevieja has received 1,725 students from 13 primary schools in the town, in addition to 26 ALPE students, who have all been able to enjoy lessons on road traffic supervised by the Policia Local.
A further 134 sessions reaching 4,169 secondary school students have included specific talks to combat gender violence, bullying and drug addiction. In addition, the students have been educated in traffic regulations, with special relevance to awareness in the use of personal mobility vehicles, electric scooters, in order to improve civility between pedestrians and vehicles in the streets of the municipality.
Students from schools in nearby municipalities, including Benijófar, with 56 students, also received lessons provided by a team from the Torrevieja Local Police.

Flamingos return to La Mata
After many years of absence due to the low levels and high salinity of the wetland waters, flamingos have returned to La Mata lagoon. The reason for their abandonment was the drastic reduction of brine shrimp, a small arthropod that thrives in this type of water, its main prey and sustenance.
The lack of food also affected other ornithological species linked to hypersaline ecosystems such as the shelduck and the finebilled gull.
Although the lagoon levels are still low, the influx of seawater has reduced the salinity enough for a notable hatching of brine shrimp to occur, with a clear benefit for the bird species that rely on it for food.
Closure Doesn´t Really Mean Closure, Right?
Having been closed down for 3 years and fined 50,000 euro for consistently violating the rules, the Metro nightclub in Bigastro still doesn’t seem to think that rules apply to them, as they applied for an opening licence for a party this weekend.
Just six months into the ban the club organisers started selling tickets without receiving the necessary permission from Orihuela town hall, who have jurisdiction over the licencing.
However, following the council’s refusal to granta licence the gig has now been cancelled.

CRYPTO COMMERCE ARRIVES IN TORREVIEJA
"It's official now." With that fanfare, the Association of Small and Medium Merchants of Torrevieja (APYMECO), announced last Thursday the launch of payment with cryptocurrencies in commerce in the salt city.
Through a collaboration framework with the Bitnovo Pay platform, Torrevieja becomes the first "crypto-friendly" city in Europe before the start of summer of 2024.
In this first phase of implementation, more than 30 businesses among the 100 pre-registered have joined the platform and already allow consumers to purchase products and services by paying in Bitcoin and other crypto assets in an easy way. safe and transparent.
Jorge Almarcha, president of APYMECO, highlighted the enormous interest of many commercial and hospitality establishments, as well as other productive sectors, in joining this platform.
He said that all transactions are carried out in a "legal and legitimate" manner. "This does not mean that we want to encourage businesses to invest in cryptocurrency, but simply that they can offer their customers another payment method," describes Jorge Almarcha.

‘STOP SAVING THE GOOD CHINA...’
If you are like me, you have an inbuilt propensity for always minding the ‘good stuff’ and using the second-best. I rotate the same well-worn shirts, whilst leaving the ‘A-list’ for that special occasion that never comes. I have nice shirts still in their packing for several years. But this is all about to change, dear readers, and my earnest advice to you is to do the same thing.
Forget about keeping the good china for that special occasion that never comes; bring it out and use it this evening if that gives you a bit of pleasure.
Take out the best you have and use it now. Whether that be a lovely coat, a piece of jewelry, or you favourite pair of shoes – wear it
now. All this ‘good stuff’ should not lie languishing in a press, box, or drawer; it is meant to be used, so use it now!
The folly of minding stuff ‘too good to use’ was forcibly brought home to me in the course of our recent house-flitting. We’ll leave Mrs Youcantbeserious’ possessions out of this, due to the fact that clothes left in a wardrobe for years actually shrink over time, so let’s side-step that one!
One of the items I found in a box in the attic was a perfectly good and functioning pocketwatch, which belonged to my late Uncle Paddy. Let me tell you the story of Paddy and the watch, in order to better illustrate the point I am making.
Paddy Mulligan, who died in 2003, lived out his long life in a 1950s manner. He could have afforded a luxurious home and lifestyle, but he chose not to – and we have to say, he was a very happy and contented man.
When our uncle passed away, we found most of the shirts, pullovers, shaving sets, jackets and hats; Christmas presents his nephews gave him over the years; all there, still in original wrapping and filling the presses upstairs. They were all too good to wear for now …
Uncle Paddy never wore a wrist watch. He owned two old pocket watches (one belonged to his deceased brother, Tony). The watches were very ancient and one would always be in for repair.
Finally, neither of them could be fixed and the solo farmer judged the time by the sun when down the fields. He had asked a jeweler in Mullingar if they sold pocket watches and he said ‘the woman laughed,’
Then, on a trip to Belfast, I found a shop with pocket watches in the window. That solved what to give my uncle for that Christmas. The watch was not expensive, but it was lovely and shiny and in a nice box nestling in blue velvet.
Twenty years later, I took the watch back when Uncle Paddy died. It was still in the same box, never having been worn or used. It was too good, not only to bring down the fields, but even to attach to his old watchchain and wear in his good suit going to mass.
I wound the watch and off it went, keeping perfect time. Same thing now, another 20 years later, when I find it in a box, wind it and off she goes.
This house-move has finally taught me the lesson of not hoarding or minding stuff. I
Bikers pay tribute to Almoradí truck driver who died in Belgium
Approximately a hundred bikers answered the call of Moteros de Levante last weekend as they paid a heartfelt tribute to the memory of the Almoradí truck driver who died in Belgium.
Gathered at the Castillo Trans premises, in Benejúzar, the Vega Baja biker enthusiasts held a few minutes of remembrance following the sudden death of Gheorghe Tibil, murdered when a group of young people threw a manhole cover from a bridge onto the cab of the vehicle that the victim was driving.
His wife,who was co-driver during the accident,attended the event,receiving a
know I am not alone. Most of us hoard ‘good things’ and don’t use them for fear of not having them on the day more suited to being best dressed.
Even if that special occasion does arrive, very often the clothes are spoiled for having idled for so long. Or fashions have changed – especially for the Gorls.
Sticking with clothes; we tend to feel better for being well dressed. So, why not dress up for ourselves? What are we waiting for?
Every single day is a gift for me, and for you. Every day is worthy of treating ourselves well. You could be hit by a bus and finish up being laid out in that dress or suit you thought was too good to wear on that day.
Live in your best room and stop saving it for when visitors call.
Our house is full of crystal collected over the years – but what use is it when I never remember any of it being used for anything?
As well as sipping tea out of the good china, in your best clothes, bring out the Waterford Glass and if you enjoy a glass of wine; just go and open that vintage bottle.
One way or the other, you only have one life to live – so go on and enjoy everything you have while there’s still time.
If you’re looking for me, I’ll be that dapper don, the well dressed distinguished-looking man that looks like a tourist around town on a Tuesday morning!

GUARDAMAR LOCAL POLICE PROTEST AT MUNICIPAL PLENARY
Guardamar’s local agents claim to be the lowest paid policemen in the region and on Friday they turned out in force at the monthly Plenary Session to protest their situation before the municipal government, chaired by the socialist José Luis Sáez.
They say that they are the worst paid and valued of all the municipalities in the region,a situation, they say, that must be urgently remedied.
Members of the force issued a series of demands that they consider essential to improve their situation, some of which they have been asking for more than 5 years.

Luxury line for Alicante Bodega Submarina del Mediterráneo
“The transformation that wine undergoes during the underwater maturation process represents the spirit of our winery,” according to Alicante wine producer Pepe Marin, a statement that he uses to justify his new range of limited-edition wines aimed exclusively at private sale. But they don’t come cheap, and at a price of 25,000 dollars for each batch of 24 bottles, that is, almost 1,000 euros per unit, with just 960 bottles available for sale, it’s a choice that is unlikely to accompany my ‘menu del dia’ any time soon.
Lack of doctors puts summer health centres at risk
The Minister of Health, Marciano Gómez, has said that the shortage of doctors "due to the inaction of the Ministry of Health" puts the opening of 54 auxiliary centres at risk in the Valencian Community this sum-
mer. However, he confirmed that the Generalitat "is finalizing the holiday plan to avoid this extreme situation and minimize problems in the Community, as far as possible.
The summer auxiliary clinics usually reinforce the coast but there are also many inland, in small towns that welcome visitors.
TORREVIEJA TO ISSUE 16 NEW TAXI LICENSES
Torrevieja believes that it needs to increase its taxi supply by 20% to meet the demand of one hundred thousand inhabitants. As such, after rejecting the proposal to share the summer service with neighbouring Orihuela, the councillor of Transport, Antonio Vidall, is promoting a procedure to create 16 new taxi licenses to add to the current 84. The increase in taxi licenses is part of the city's strategy to improve public transport, improving its supply in the face of the unstoppable increase in demand, both urban and interurban.
Pressure to upgrade CV-95
The Orihuela Chamber of Commerce hosted a meeting on Tuesday with the regional secretary of Infrastructure, and local mayors, where they presented the work of Prof Armando Ortuño, on an upgrade to the CV-95.
The road that connects the coast with the interior of Vega Baja appears in the budgets and, according to the president of the Chamber, Mario Martínez, there is "progress" in the project by the current Consell. He added that he will give his support to "any public-private initiative" to carry out this infrastructure.
PRAISE FOR ORIHUELA LOCALPOLICE AGENTS
The General Directorate of the Civil Guard has congratulated seven Orihuela Local Police officers for their outstanding contribution to a recent police operation carried out last month in which a criminal group was apprehended who were carrying out robbery with violence and intimidation, vehicle theft and document falsification. The agents acted with great professionalism, both in obtaining information and in passing it on. Their work greatly assisted the operation, at a crucial stage of the investigation.

However, not only has the local socialist leader, Barbara Soler pointed out that the rehabilitation of the port area is a true benefit for Torrevieja, but the responsibility lies firmly in the hands of the former PSOE President, Ximo Puig, and "neither MazÛn nor his government have had any-
thing to do with the project", nor in the investment.
Soler also pointed out that the manor and approach which the boasts were made also potentially went against the rules in the run up to the European elections this week, resulting in the press release and all record of the comments being deleted from the regional governmentís website.

These latest devices are the “most advanced on the market”, and are extremely accurate in detecting speed, although a small margin of error will still be applied, but one of the main advantages of their innovative technology is that the camera allows them to control up to a total of six lanes at a time, and in both directions, and so a single camera can monitor the majority of roads, including motorways, with little effort.

There will also be an increase in speed monitoring throughout the summer, which will also include locations not normally covered by these devices, according to the director of the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT), Pere Navarro, who is increasingly concerned about the increase in incidents where speed is a factor, and the increase in fatalities and serious injuries, which are going against the overall plan under the “Road to Zero” policy.

Tickets have already gone on sale with a price of 20 euros and can be purchased through Compralaentrada.com and the official Real Murcia store.
According to the Northern Ireland FA is estimated that about two thousand British fans will be in the stands to support NI
Xavi started his career at Thader in 2008 prior to moving from the Rojales based outfit to the Barça youth academy two years later, where he stayed until 2019. Moving then to PSG, which was managed at the time by, Mauricio Pochettino, Xavi Simons made his professional debut for PSG in February 2021, coming on as a substitute for Julian Draxler in a 1–0 Coupe de France win over Caen.
With 13 national caps under his belt, Xavi will be hoping to impress during the Euros, having spent the season just ended on loan at RB Leipzig where, with 32 appearances, he helped the German outfit to finish 4th in the Bundesliga.
Although he left the municipality when he was very young, he still maintains a very strong connection with the town, returning whenever his schedule allows it. Last week, prior to reporting to the Netherlands camp, Xavi spent a week in the region training with his former teammates.

Serenity Insurance Darts League Presentation
Venue - Los Cucalos Restaurant, Av. de Montezenia.
The popular Thursday darts league concluded their season, with a presentation of awards last week.
The managing director of Serenity Insurance Jayne Leggatt and former professional World darts champion Rod Harrington presented the prizes.
An audience of 150 plus were treated to an hour and a half of table magic from the renowned Graeme Mikal and a more than adequate buffet from the kitchen of Los Cucalos.
Proceedings commenced at 7-00pm to the sounds of D.J. Nik Smith, who cleverly personalised the intro music to all the twentyseven categories of prize recipients. Singles Champion James Brown presented on stage to the sounds of "Beyonce's" "Texas Holdem", to say he was chuffed was an
understatement.

The league now enjoys a Summer break until the new 2024 / 25 season commences at the end of September.
Notification of the A.G.M. venue and date will be forwarded to existing teams, new teams wishing to consider entry should refer to the Leader for an update early August.

DOGS WERE NOT POPULAR at my old golf club, Barton on Sea in Hampshire. Having heard some hairraising anecdotes, I can understand why. One chap used to tie his fox terrier Harry to the trolley. Harry always behaved impeccably until one day on reaching the 14th hole near the clifftop car park a car door opened and out jumped the Hound of the Baskervilles.
It made straight for Harry, and Harry, neither up for a fight nor a romantic encounter, took off. Fear lent wings to his little ginger legs and the trolley swayed behind him, shedding
clubs over the fairway, with Harry’s owner and partner both running behind waving their irons and the Hound’s owner bringing up the rear in a scene reminiscent of a Benny Hill chase.
On another occasion, an excitable pup on an extending lead promptly ran round and round a foursomes, tying them up in a neat, almost oven-ready parcel. Never a dull minute.
Suggestions before taking Fido for a round:
1) No barking. An ill-timed bark at the top of your opponent's backswing could result in
Rover's immediate demise.
2) Teach him to understand “drop it”, especial ly your opponent's ball.
3) Don't forget the poo bag. THE U.S. OPEN will be played on Pinehurst No. 2 course, Nth. Carolina, June 13-16th. Designed in 1907 by Donald Ross, Pinehurst has 9 x 18-hole courses, each named simply by a number. Pinehurst 2 is said to be fiendishly difficult. Many of the greens are crowned and short shots tend to roll off, leaving a difficult chip shot. Johnny Miller once compared trying to land a ball on a Pinehurst green to trying to land it on top of a VW Beetle.
Payne Stewart, whose statue is behind the 18th green, won the US Open there in 1999 after holing a 15ft par putt for a one-stroke victory before losing his life in October of that year.
Pinehurst had no long rough in 1907 but in 1974 thick Bermuda rough was introduced throughout the course. In 2010 it was removed, and fairways and bunkers were restored to the original Ross design with fine sand and native scrub. The good news is it’s very difficult to lose a ball on No. 2. course, there’s just one water hazard and OB rarely comes into play. Defending champion Wyndham Clark's putting last year was said to be outstanding. Perhaps he'd bought a VW Beetle.
A BRAND-NEW GOLF CLUB is set to open "Within sight of central London.” The Inspiration Club is located just 10 miles from the West End and about seven miles from Heathrow airport. The third golf course
owned by the Bridgedown Golf Group, following on from The Shire London and The West London Golf Centre, the 6,610-yard course is opening on 1st June.
Director Tony Menai-Davis said: "The Inspiration Club is unlike anything London has ever seen - a modern style links, featuring run-offs familiar to coastal layouts. To experience what we have designed here you would normally have to travel to the coast. The club will be perfectly positioned for golf enthusiasts looking to indulge in a round after work in the City." Oh yeah! Just try getting out to Northolt at 5.00pm.
PING SAY the G430 MAX 10K is their most forgiving driver yet, overtaking last year's G430 MAX. It practically comes with an automatic pardon from the pope. In addition, the lower spin rate of the G430 Max 10K leads to a vastly improved carry distance. The fixed Tungsten back weight drives mass down and back to increase forgiveness and optimise the centre of gravity position.
Even more noticeable, apparently, is the consistency. On more wayward strikes, direction, speed and spin stay remarkably solid. The driver's large confidence-inspiring head helps square the golfer to the target.
It's a tad expensive, coming in at a whopping £599. I'd better start saving up. Like Bob Hope I’ve got a great short game, unfortunately it’s off the tee.
