COASTAL RESIDENTS DEMAND IMPROVED SERVICES

Almost 200 residents of Villamartin, La Zenia and surrounds, demonstrated at the entrance to La Zenia Boulevard shopping center next to the AP-7 motorway toll on Saturday, demanding both improved road safety in the area and the removal of the toll on the AP7 motorway. The protest was led by Bob Houliston, Orihuela Councillor and Chairman of the local CLARO Group, and

Félix Arenas who is the President of the La Zenia Business Association. They claimed that the area, despite being a ‘cash cow’ to the Orihuela Government, is completely forgotten by the mayor and his councilors when it comes to the quality of life for the Costa’s 30,000 inhabitants. They also showed their discontent with the toll located at La Zenia on the AP7 motorway between Alicante and Cartagena, demanding that it be abolished and with the perceived lack of safety, municipal services and cleanliness on many local roads. The Ministry say it is necessary to adopt a new law more in line with current demands The Spanish government has approved controversial reforms aimed at protecting the public, detailing more accurate roles and responsibilities for both the public, and security services, as well as the actions that both can expect in the event of confrontation or protest. The new laws have been under consultation for the last seven months, with many opponents stating that they undermine the fundamental public right of citizens to protest, and make it easier to enforce an almost martial law situation, whereas supporters believe that it will reduce the conflicts and damage caused when protests have sped out of control in the past. Detailing the reasons behind the reform, a report from the Interior Ministry explains that since the adoption of the 1978 Constitution, the first law that regulated the intervention of public authorities in the field of public safety was the Organic Law 1/1992 of the 21st of February of that year. Now, after 22 years of operation, with the cumulative police experience and new circumstances affecting public safety, including new threats and technological developments such as the internet and social networks, it was necessary to adopt a new law according to the demands of our time, especially to deal with anti-social behaviour and thus guarantee the safety and security of citizens. The new act coincides in “perfect harmony” with the draft Penal Code which is pending in the Congress of Deputies, in which some sanctions will no longer be criminalised, and thus dealt with as administration offences. More power will be given to the security services to create stoppages, controls and blockades in the event of a potential risk to public safety. The ability of the security services to use rubber bullets has been defined clearer in the law, albeit as a last resort. A third element goes to great detail in identifying and defining a number of offences, thus giving a legal certainty. The overruling message of the act is to “not punish anymore, but to punish better”. The law divides offences into three groups, defined as very serious, serious and minor. There are only 4 very serious infringements, which are precisely those behaviours likely to cause serious

damage to people and property. One such inclusion is the shining of lights, such as laser pointers, into the eyes of drivers or pilots, with serious concerns growing in the aviation industry of this increasing threat, which saw 634 cases in 2013, compared to just 120 cases in 2013. There are 26 serious violations related to violence, vandalism and antisocial behaviour. In terms of public demonstrations, the law seeks to punish “only the violent, aggressive or coercive”, such as those who invade airport runways or commit arson on public roads. Moreover, the Act expressly protects the right to demonstrate and punishes those who encourage the development of a peaceful demonstration into becoming a disturbance. There are 17 minor offenses listed, such as considering holding demonstrations without prior notice, as was the case recently in La Zenia when the Alicante authorities refused permission for a neighbourhood protest on account of the short notice given. As for the financial penalties involved in each of the three categories, very serious offenses are punishable by a fine of between 30,001 to 600,000 euro, serious infractions face a fine between 601 to 30,000 euro, whereas the less serious offenders will be looking to lose between 100 to 600 euro. There is a matrix for each category based on the seriousness of the offences committed, with consideration also given for the number of times an offender has appeared before the judiciary. There is also a consideration for the individual financial situation of those involved. Finally, another matter is cleared up by the new laws, which makes it now a serious offence to impersonate a member of the security services. This also covers recent controversy when carnival and fiesta attendees faced a threat of action for dressing as members of the Guardia Civil, after a new law came into force earlier in the year regulating the use of uniforms. Although perhaps done in jest, the element of dressing up, even in a comedic guise, is included within this law, with those who dress up in fancy dress facing charges.

GERMAN FUGITIVE ARRESTED IN SANTA POLA Alicante National Police have arrested a 54 year old man in Santa Pola after receiving a European Extradition Order, issued by the German authorities, in relation to a 1.7 million euros fraud. The hunt for the man was initiated by the Provincial Police after they learned of his presence in the Alicante area following which the unit specializing in locating fugitives began surveillance on a Santa Pola property. The arrest then took place last week when his presence in the town was confirmed. The suspect, through the Internet, managed to access a total of 52,737 bank accounts from which he received approximately 88,061 transfers, each of 19.95 euros, into his account, representing a total amount of 1,756,816.95 euros. The fugitive, a Netherlands national, has now been handed over to the German authorities where he is believed to faces a sentence of 10 years in prison for the scam involving 15 offenses of computer fraud.

Continued from Page 1 One example, they say, is the road between San Miguel de Salinas, through Villamartin and into La Zenia, which is regularly used by heavy traffic. They claim that the road is nowhere near ‘fit for purpose’ and that the weight and volume of traffic that it attracts poses significant dangers to local residents. This discomfort was reflected in several of the banners held by the demonstrators which said "Enough of traffic. We do not want to die. " The residents also asked the Ministry of Public Works and the City Council to reconsider its decision to close the street Alhambra Maestro Torralba and to prevent accidents in the N-332, because the estimate would "ruin" for small businesses and because they believe that this problem be solved with the removal of the AP7 toll. Residents also demanded the withdrawal of the threat by Correo toremove the delivery of mail to more than 5,000 homes in Orihuela Costa and the completion of the Emergency Center located on the Avda Villamartin. They say that the Orihuela Costa is a major tourist attraction in this part of Spain, insisting that that the lack of both investment and municipal services currently provided to it from local and regional resources are an embarrassment and they must be remedied and improved as a matter of urgency.

SAN MIGUEL GENERAL PLAN APPEALED IN MADRID COURT

By David Hardy The Neighbours Association last week filed notice of opposition in the Supreme Court against the appeal by the Town Council Administration of San Miguel de Salinas. In a previous judgement at The High Court of Justice of the Valencia Community (TSJCV) it ruled that changes to the General Urban Plan submitted by the ruling PP Administration should be suspended and annulled for breach of European Parliament regulations regarding the requirements for a Strategic Environmental Impact Assessment. Following the judgement by the TSJCV, it is alleged that The PP Administration headed by Mayor Ángel Sáez Huertas launched a smear campaign against the Neighbour’s Association, channelled mainly through local television, with the main objective of preventing the association from continuing its opposition before the Supreme Court. The mayor openly accused the association of adding to the economic crisis and local unemployment by opposing his plans ‘with their environmental reasoning’. The General Plan assumes continued growth in a housing bubble. With a current population of 7000

residents the Plan General projects a growth of 40,128 new homes and 100,320 residents. Other macro figures in this plan are the annual consumption of nearly 9 million cubic metres of drinking water and the generation of 7 million cubic metres of sewage and 46 tons of municipal waste. This exponential growth and unbridled development pose a serious threat to the survival of the current population and the environmental surroundings of the town, especially for the Sierra de Escalona and Dehesa de Campoamor. These are areas of valuable natural wilderness within the municipality which the Associations of both Neighbour’s ‘San Miguel Arcángel’ and Friends of the Sierra Escalona have long campaigned to be declared as a Natural Park within the Valencia Autonomous Community and therefore receive protection from future ingression and speculative development. The Plan General sought by The Partido Popular continues to disregard both the issues of environmental impact and the need for such growth. David Hardy is the Vice President the SAN MIGUEL ARCANGEL Board of Directors

PARDON REQUESTS TURNED DOWN BY PP number of applications for pardons from high profile politicians and celebrities were turned down last Friday by the PP Administration in Madrid. Amongst those included was the suspended judge Baltasar Garzón, currently the head of Julian Assange's legal team, and bullfighter José Ortega Cano who is presently languishing in jail The petitioners had all been convicted of a variety of offenses including bribery, corruption and dangerous driving leading to the death of another driver. The most high profile of the applicants is the former high court judge Baltasar Garzón, who while presiding over the the Gürtel bribes-for-contracts case, ordered that wiretaps be taken of prison conversations between members of the ring and their lawyers. Even though such actions have been carried out in the past without any recourse to disciplinary action against the perpetrators the Supreme said that on this occasion the wiretaps were illegal. As a result Garzón was barred from the bench for 11 years. Also turned down by the Cabinet was the

EMERGENCY HEART SURGERY FOR ORIHUELA MAYOR The mayor of Orihuela, Monserrate Guillén of the Los Verdes green party, was hospitalised at the weekend, suffering a heart condition. In a statement, fellow green councillor, Manuel Gallud, along with government spokesperson, Carolina Gracia, explained how Guillén had been taken ill on Saturday evening from his home, complaining of chest pains. He was taken to the Chiron Hospital of Torrevieja, where he was monitored in the intensive care unit, later to be transferred on Sunday to the General Hospital of Alicante, where he underwent surgery to install two “stents” in the heart. After a brief stay in hospital, Guillén was allowed home to continue his recovery. Gallud explained that under the circumstances, the

Some 3,000 people attempted to cross the border, some throwing rocks and carrying sticks, as security staff tried to physicians estimate that recovery could take between one and two months. He also said that “We want to thank the many people who offered signs of affection and concern for the health of the mayor”. MORE IMPROVEMENTS FOR ORIHUELA COSTA BEACHES town hall, where advice can also be obtained as to how to raise a complaint. The department still stress however that this current period of consultation is for objections to the environmental impact only, issues relating to planning will follow in the next stage of the process.

The councillor for the coast, Martina Scheurer, has explained this week how the town hall departments of the coast and tourism have collaborated with the company providing beach services, Chiringuitos del Sol, in providing approved and additional access for those beach visitors with mobility problems. Already, the beach at Cala del Bosque has had a shaded platform constructed, along with adapted toilets and a secure area for wheelchairs, showers and a new amphibian chair. The same elements are also being installed at the beaches of playa La Glea, Cala Capitån and Barranco Rubio, meaning that four of the Orihuela Costa´s beaches, those which are reachable by people with difficulties, will be fully adapted to their needs.

Talks are nearing conclusion with the landowner of the space on the Villamartin side of the new pedestrian footbridge over the motorway from La Zenia. It is hoped that the owner will shortly agree the route for a footpath through the land, which will enable the completion of the missing part of this project, a zebra crossing and walkway on the Villamartin side. The snorkelling guided tours of the Orihuela Costa have proven extremely popular, with the town hall urging anybody interested in attending the Wednesday and Sunday events to book their place quickly, as it is likely that they will be filled to capacity during the operation in July and August. This can be done at the tourist information offices or at the town hall.

In addition, the town hall has secured nearly 18,000 euro funding from the department of health towards beach facilities, which will be used to purchase roll-out pathways from the dedicated areas to the sea. In addition, the money will go towards the purchase of special crutch stations, one of which is located on the sand, the other in the water, so those who are able to walk, albeit with assistance, can use crutches to enter the water, then leave them in the special, floating station, before collecting them and returning to the beach when ready. Finally, there will be an additional amphibian chair purchased, which will mean that there will be a total of 5 available on the beaches. This reverses the trend of previous years where the contract stipulated that 11 chairs should be provided, although the reality was that only 3 ever were. Now, as the contract for life guards stipulates the provision of 3 chairs, based on the practicality of the operation, and now with this collaboration, the actual quota of chairs available is 5. Cones will also be placed in some areas of the beaches, as it has become a clear problem that able bodied people come to the beach and pitch themselves in the path from the

mobility platforms to the beach, thus creating an extra barrier for those who may already have struggled. The timeframe for objections to the revised plans for building on the Cala Mosca area of the Orihuela Costa is still open, but objections must be filed before the mandatory period of consultation. The full plans are available in the planning department of the Orihuela city

A new and unique element of fun will be open soon on the Orihuela Costa, with a summer ice rink and water park being constructed on the wasteland adjacent to the Playa Flamenca Mercadona, near the town hall. The water park will feature inflatable fixtures, with cooling sprays and water flows, whereas the ice rink will be formed of artificial ice, so as not to melt in the searing heat of summer. Due to have opened at the start of the summer season, there has been a delay whilst the organiser ensured that all paperwork, insurance and compliance documents were in order, so as to avoid any issues with the authorities. With the event organisers hoping to return every year, they too are keen to ensure that this first year goes without incident, so as to ensure a long term working relationship with the Orihuela Costa.

The anticipated direct bus link from Benidorm and Torrevieja to the high speed train at Villena, due to start on Monday of this week, has been delayed due to problems agreeing elements of the service with the bus operator. The mayor of Villena, Francisco Javier Esquembre, ensures that companies will sign the agreement “in the coming days”, although no fixed date has yet been confirmed for the start of the service. There has also been no further information on the charter bus that train operator Renfe had promised, which was organised due to the mayor of Alicante, Sonia Castedo, refusing to allow the service from her city to the coastal towns, supporting suggestions by taxi drivers that the service would cause unnecessary congestion on the roads. Once the required steps have been carried out and approved by all parties involved, the train company will begin to offer the combined tickets for sale, and will launch a promotional campaign supporting the new service, once it finally starts.

The Provincial Fire Consortium of Alicante has increased the quota of fire fighters in each of the seven fire stations in the province, due to the increased risk of forest fires during the long and dry summer period. An additional 14 new fire fighters will be spread across the area, 2 in each station, operating around the clock to boost the availability until the 15th of September. The service has already been on high alert since Easter, when the air support network was also increased. Out of the total of 650 staff and 145 vehicles, there are a minimum of 100 fire fighters on duty at any one time, able to transfer to any area as needed across the near 6,000 square metre operative areas of the Marina Alta, Marina Baja, Montaña, L´Alacantí, Vinalopó, Bajo Vinalopó and Vega Baja.

ARCHAEOLOGISTS UNEARTH GRAVES IN CALLOSA DE SEGURA The latest excavations by the Archaeological Museum of Alicante (MARQ) at the site of the Argaric 'Hillside Castle' in Callosa del Segura, has exposed three graves inside a family home. They are of a child under two years old, buried inside an earthenware container, an adult male and a child of about 6 or 7 years of age, next to which they also discovered two important ivory buttons. Burials inside houses was a common practice by this ancient civilization that lived in the south of the province of Alicante over 4000 years ago. The discoveries were made last month during the work of the third excavation campaign authorized by the Provincial Council of Alicante and carried out by staff from the museum. The residents of Algar were a Bronze Age settlement that occupied the southeastern area of the Iberian Peninsula between the years 2100 and 1500 BC. The site of 'Las Laderas del Castillo’ (the Slopes Castle), was first explored in the early twentieth century by Jesuit Julio Furgús and later by the Catalan archaeologist Josep Colominas. The site is one of the most important Bronze Age settlements found on the Iberian Peninsula covering twenty hectares with over a thousand residents. Meanwhile a Little further up the coast in Calpe, excavations carried out in Pobla d'Ifach has unearthed a document confirming the ‘right to fire’ in their homes in the fourteenth century. The 'fogatge' was a hearth tax, one of the oldest taxes

known, which was imposed on settlements by the landowners, in this case to 100 families, which implies that the settlement would have about 400 inhabitants. The team of archaeologists from the Archaeological Museum of Alicante (MARQ) have so far discovered 50 tombs in which the have made many new ‘finds’. including many bodies of children, their bones showing signs of premature disease which suggests they were suffering from poor nutrition. Archaeologists have speculated that the settlement came north, perhaps from Lleida, looking for a better life.

GREENS UNITE IN DEMO AGAINST OIL EXPLORATION The Orihuela and Torrevieja Green Party’s joined forces last weekend as they made a stand, first at la Playa del Cura de Torrevieja and then at La Zenia beach on the Orihuela Costa, against oil exploration that the government has authorized the off the Canary Islands.

They say that they now fear that exploration could soon be approved in the Gulf of Valencia This was the very last action carried out by Orihuela mayor Monserrate Guillen prior to suffering his heart attack on Sunday morning. Also attending the demo was Torrevieja Councillor José Manuel Dolon who said that evedn the introduction of surveys off the regional coast would result in "a serious threat to coastal tourism which at this time of the year contributes up to 80% of the economy and so we ask the support of the citizens." The ‘Greens’ say that in the coming weeks they will be travelling up and down the Valencian coastline promoting sustainable energy, because the proposed surveys will only bring harm to our region. Regional politician González Pons argued that the granting of surveys would be very harmful." He also denounced "the silence of regional President Fabra who should be looking after the interests of his own people rather than following the government positions taken on the Balearic and Canary Islands."

So as to ensure standard charges, taxi drivers in Rojales will no longer charge for journey’s by a rate card but in future will use meters which are to be fitted into every registered vehicle. Passengers will be charged 2.78 euros at the start of their journey and 0.82 euros per kilometre thereafter.

ON THE TOWN Demonstrating that he is not one for protocol Spain’s new King Felipe V1 headed out for a meal and a drink with friends in downtown Madrid last week. Breaking with tradition he left the Queen at home as he joined five friends for dinner at a fashionable Asian restaurant in central Madrid's Chueca district.

CAUGHT FLAT FOOTED A lack of funds in the City of Alicante last year was so critical that the Security councillor, Juan Seva, ordered that the servicing intervals on all Policia Local be doubled from 5,000 to every 10,000 miles. The 'Union of Local Police and Fire Officers (SPPLB) has said that, as a result, agents were using vehicles which in some cases are not fit for service and were being forced back onto the beat.

‘Twitters from the Atlantic’ By Barrie Mahoney Barrie Mahoney was a head teacher and school inspector in the UK, as well as a reporter in Spain, before moving to the Canary Islands to launch and edit a new English language newspaper. He enjoys life in the sun as a columnist and author, and continues to write a series of popular novels, books for expats, as well as designing mobile apps and websites to promote the Canary Islands.

THE PAPARAZZI EXPAT A few days ago I received an email from what I had previously thought was a reputable media agency in New York, asking me if I knew of a good “paparazzi style” photographer on the island or, failing that, would I be prepared to do the job? Apparently, there was a Very Important Person on the island, and the magazine wanted to obtain a collection of photos for their publications, as well as providing material for others who were interested. Our islands regularly welcome a fair number of the famous, rich and powerful and well-heeled members of society. We are used to accommodating film stars, rappers, royals and politicians, corrupt or otherwise. We often see them out and about, in bars, restaurants or local shops. Indeed, I had a brief chat with one celebrity, who will remain nameless, over the cheese counter at Carrefour only last week. It was good to see him looking so relaxed, and he appeared so much smaller, as well better presented, in real life than he does on the TV screen. I did not ask for an autograph, but merely suggested that he ask the assistant for a piece of the cheese to sample before purchase. He seemed grateful for my suggestion. Most of the better hotels and restaurants on the islands appreciate the privacy and discretion that their more famous clients expect; sensibly recognising that it is essential for future recommendations and busi-

ness. There are exceptions, of course, but it is rare. It is quite simple; those businesses that are not discrete simply lose business, and word gets around fast on an island. Maybe we are being spoilsports for not joining in with the fun. After all, just a few photos with a long lens of a beautiful girl or a good looking guy sunbathing on one of our beautiful beaches would provide some titivation and entertainment on a wet, cold Sunday morning for readers in the UK or US. Surely there is no harm in a little of that? Actually there is, and many see the behaviour of those engaged in paparazzi style activities as akin to stalking, taking advantage and invading personal space. In many countries, anti-stalking laws are rightly in place to protect the lives of public figures and celebrities. As we have heard in the lengthy phone hacking trials in the UK, the courts agree that everyone is entitled to some degree of privacy in their lives, and the general public is beginning to recognise that there is a line, albeit a fine one, to be drawn between private and public lives. Our lives are not an open book for everyone to read, and some degree of privacy should be guaranteed. Yes, I do know several excellent and more than capable photographers on the island, but I certainly would not suggest any for paparazzi work attempting to embarrass the rich, famous, powerful or just very fortunate on holiday. Those that I know would not want the job anyway.

THE WRIGHT STUFF AT EDUARDO’S

The Wright Family gathered at La Finca de Eduardo’s on Thursday as the television camera’s rolled to catch the wedding of TOWIE couple Leah Wright and Chris Taylor under the glorious Costa Blanca sunshine. And the guest list said it all. Former Coronation Street star Michelle Keegan was there with her fiancé, Leah’s cousin Mark Wright, plus there were lots of the current TOWIE favourites. Brother Elliot Wright gave the impression that he and girlfriend Chloe Sims might not be too far behind in the nuptial stakes as the pair could barely keep their hands off one another Even Jessica Wright and Lauren Goodger seemed to have put their differences behind them for the trip to Spain as they shared in the celebrations with nana Pat and the rest of the family members. But the show was stolen by the happy couple. Leah, looked stunning in her white bridal gown by Rene K, and her proud brother thought likewise as he tweeted 'Just want to say good luck, I love you more than words can say.... You look beautiful.

PEGASUS FOUR ON THE TAIL OF SPEEDING DRIVERS As traffic police in Spain embark on their latest week long crack down on drivers who have consumed alcohol or drugs, the DGT traffic department has announced that a fourth airborne radar detector has launched at the weekend, with the fifth due in a matter of weeks. The launch coincided with an anticipated 3.5 million trips on the roads of Spain, as the summer season is well and truly underway. The Pegasus helicopters cover the main road networks of Galicia, Castilla y León, Asturias, Cantabria, Andalucía and the east coast, with the aim, according to the DGT, of “controlling the speed on the mainly conventional roads. The equipment on board the helicopter works with pinpoint accuracy, and can not only video traffic violations as they happen, it can record the speed, registration details and even the identity of the vehicle occupants. Since the first Pegasus equipped helicopter too to the sky in March of 2013, 2,064 drivers have been reported during the 672 hours of flight, during which time 13,458 vehicles have been checked. Although the accuracy of Pegasus was brought into question recently, it was only in terms of the margin of error calculations, but most vehicles caught speeding by the heli-

copter are recorded at more than 30 kilometres per hour above the permitted speed on the road in question. The worst drivers clocked during that time were a motorist travelling at 232 kilometres per hour on a 120limited stretch of motorway, and a driver clocked at 195 kilometres per hour on a conventional road with a limit of 90. The Pegasus radars consist of two elements, a panoramic camera for tracking and a second for detailing such things as the number plate. The equipment is able to monitor speeds of up to 360 kilometres per hour.

MOTORISTS UNHAPPY WITH GOOGLE MAPS MULTICAR The Policia Local in Cartagena have confirmed that the mapping vehicle driving around the twn centre over the last few days belongs to Google Maps and is currently visiting the city at the invitation of the Chamber of Commerce It is in the city in order to update the Old Town and the Main street (zonas del Casco Antiguo, como la calle Mayor) where the current imagery are many years out of date. The vehicle captures 360 degree panoramic images which have never been recorded of the areas in question. The police dispelled the rumours circulating on many social networking sites that they had brought the vehicle in themselves to drive around town tak-

ing pictures of anyone violating traffic regulations which would then lead to prosecutions and fines. They said that the information being disseminated was totally false.

PUNTA PRIMA CAR DEALERSHIP CLOSED DOWN BY GUARDIA Rumours regarding the closure of Autos Corleone in Punta Prima by Guardia Civil officers last week are currently suggesting that the second hand car dealership is the subject of an investigation surrounding stolen cars and the falsification of ITV documents. Although many vehicles still remain on site the gates were secured late last week when police officers arrived at the used car lot to speak to staff. It is understood that officers left carrying documents and computer equipment which is currently being used to aid their investigation. An informed source told the Leader that there is still far more to come out of the investigation which is likely to go well beyond second hand cars although at this stage of the investigation it is still far too early to speculate. One individual said that his son had recently bought two cars from the garage but was still waiting to receive the transfer of ownership documentation. He was unclear as to what his next move might be.

Advice on choosing and using contact lense

Contact lenses are very popular for people of all ages and with a range of lifestyles, however people can worry that they will not be right for them, or simply never have thought about wearing them because they aren’t sure how to use them. Francisco Manuel Jurado Alonsofrom Specsavers Opticas in Guardamar del Segura advises that the advances in technology over the last five years have transformed contact lenses and means that now almost everyone can use them comfortably and safely. However, the type of lenses you choose must be the right ones for your particular lifestyle and take into account any conditions you may have. Here is some advice on things to look out for and to consider – Make sure your eyes are healthy – Before trying contact lenses for the first time, have a thorough eye test to identify any issues which may make contact lens wear more difficult or more risky, so you can choose correctly. For example, if you have dry eyes then more hydrating lens systems really help, or if you have diabetes, you should take particular care with hygiene and handling and choose a lens with good oxygen transmission properties, as a corneal abrasion may take longer to heal and any infections may take longer to clear than in contact lens wearer without diabetes. Identify your particular visual need – An eye test will give you and your optician the latest information on your eyesight and any particular needs which the contact lens

needs to compensate for. New advances in technology have developed multi-focal and vari-focal contact lenses which allow people who are both short and long sighted to see perfectly without having to wear two different lenses. Almost everyone can now use lenses, you simply need to correctly identify your need and match the right lens to your vision and lifestyle. Match your lens to your lifestyle – The type of lens you choose will depend on your lifestyle and the frequency of wear. The daily disposable lenses are the best in terms of hygiene and convenience, we recommend daily disposables for irregular use and monthly lenses for daily use. There are innovative options which can make it much easier to use contact lenses, like the first flat-packed lens which can fit in your wallet, or lenses you can sleep in if you tend to forget to take them out before bed. Be sure that the lenses fit the eye properly, as this will be uncomfortable no matter what lens you choose. Keep them clean - Once you have chosen the right lens for you, make sure you keep them really clean to avoid any infections. The daily disposable lenses are fresh every day and so they are the most hygienic choice and you don’t have to worry about keeping them clean. If you are using monthly lenses, make sure you use the proper solutions to keep them clean and never use tap water, especially not hot tap water, it can contain bacteria which can be very

The Sufi Muslim symbol is in the shape of an "H" which is shaped and concave at ends. The Cavalli perfume logo keeps the same basic shape but is rotated by 90 degrees. Those attending the demonstration displayed banners that that said "No to plagiarism of a sacred emblem by Roberto Cavalli" and” 1400 years-old symbol-versus two years. Withdraw the logo. "OHIM want justice". Pictures of Georgia May, daughter of the Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger, 70, and model Jerry Hall, 57, have prompted demonstrations by thousands of Sufi Muslims outside Harrods in London, as well as in Dusseldorf, Germany, and Los Angeles, since they were first released in the middle of last year. The campaign promoting the designer fragrance, shows Miss Jagger with an ornate H-like symbol on her skin. This is not the first time Roberto Cavalli has run into trouble over the use of religious symbols. Ten years ago, they made a line of bikinis which depicted Hindu gods. The swimwear was stocked by Harrods but was pulled off the shelves after a backlash from faith groups.

UP IN SMOKE A photograph was published in last week’s Daily Mail showing Queen Letizia of Spain selling cigarettes while she was a journalism student in Mexico. Shortly after her graduation she was employed by a popular brand to promote their product. The photo shows her posing in a branded uniform.

HANDS UP damaging to your eye. Follow the instructions – Read the instructions carefully and make sure you follow them properly in order to avoid complications and make sure you are replacing them as frequently as necessary. If you continue using lenses longer than you should, then the porous surface of the lens can get filled up with deposits which stop the flow of oxygen and can cause allergic reactions. Older lenses also dry out, become less comfortable and the deposits can create ulcers in the cornea which can impair vision, cause red eye and infections. Specsavers Opticas offer contact lens health checks, lifestyle advice and also a free trial so you can make sure that the lenses suit you before you buy. For more information visit www.specsavers.es

ALICANTE MUSLIMS FURY OVER ABUSE OF ‘SACRED SYMBOL' Sufi Muslim students in Alicante have demanded the withdrawal of a logo for a Roberto Cavalli perfume that is said to be a copy of one of their sacred symbols. And to make their point, thirty young Sufis demonstrated last week in Alicante insisting that the perfume logo is withdrawn and all stock and packaging bearing the logo is recalled, as they insist that the design 'degrades' one of their religion's holiest signs. The protest took place at the Office for Fair Trade in the Internal Market (OHIM), which is the organization responsible for safeguarding the rights of brands, models and company drawings within all European Union institutions and where the Cavalli logo is registered.

Doctors at the Alicante University Hospital are trialling a robotic arm which will help those who have lost the ability to move the limb through brain signals. The tests are currently being carried out on five patients who have lost the use of their arm through strokes or mental trauma.

HEALTHY LIVING Santa Pola say that with the arrival of holidaymakers they are expecting over 53,000 visitors to their Health centres during the months of July and August. As a result, according to Cllr for Health, Fran Martin, many of their centres, including Gran Alacant, will open both in the morning and the evening.

NICO FRET A study by the World Health Organisation shows that smoking has now been connected with memory disorders. As well as linking nicotine to dementia the study concluded that smoking could also be attributed to 14% of all Alzheimer’s cases.

A LOAD OF BULL The department of health of Navarra dealt with 530 injuries during this year´s San Fermin fiesta in Pamploma, slightly higher than the 518 of last year, but lower than the 657 of 2012.

ALBION’S RESISTANCE BROKEN BY REAL BETIS AT PINATAR ARENA

Brighton and Hove Albion .....1 Real Betis ................................3 Brighton & Hove Albion’s tour of Spain ended in a 3-1 defeat as Real Betis produced a slick and ruthless display to come from behind in the Pinatar Arena. Craig Mackail-Smith had given Sami Hyypia’s men an early advantage but Betis fought back in impressive fashion to inflict a first defeat on Albion in preseason. After just 11 minutes Mackail-Smith calmly fired the Seagulls ahead with his third goal in pre-season. Javier Matilla broke through for Betis and although his run was ended by Vitalijs Maksimenko the ball fell kindly for Ruben Castro to sweep home on the interval.

Dani Pacheco went close to a second for Betis within two minutes of the restart, deflecting his effort just wide but just two more minutes later Jorge Casado’s diving header put Real ahead. Albion had the post to thank while Walton was on full alert to save Sergio Rodriguez’s rebound as Betis continued to look threatening. Rodriguez was not to be denied though and on 76 minutes the Betis an capitalised on a defensive error, striking in off the post to give Walton no chance. A Rohan Ince half volley almost brought the Seagulls back into the game but Dani Gimenez was equal to the midfielder’s effort while Walton showed his qualities as he tipped over Bruno Gonzalez’s late header.

NEW PLAYERS ARRIVE AS TORRY FRIENDLY DATES ANNOUNCED

By Steve Hibberd

Manager Galliana has made the signing that all Torry fans have wanted to see. Last season, a long haired central defender arrived from a Mexican club, filling the place of transferred Jorge. Although he's been shorn of his locks, Alexis is a rock in defence, and now he will have the luxury of pairing up with the returning Jorge - what a combination!! Another central defender from last season has decided to stay on at the club. Martin can also play in midfield, and certainly won over the Torry faithful with his no nonsense attitude. Unfortunately both Micro and Dani Meseguer, who had previously indicated a willingness to stay, have now decided to ply their trade elsewhere. But when one door shuts, another opens, which certainly is the case at new look Torry. Midfielder Borja Cortes has signed terms from div 3 side Novelda, linking up with Sergi, who makes the short journey from Orihuela (who incidentally have major money problems, and are now know as Orihuela Deportivo). A prolific goal scorer is on every man-

ager's wish list, so Galiana must be hoping that new boy Carlitos fits the bill. Joining from Xerez, the 23 year old notched up 12 of the best last season, and although it was at a lower level, he obviously has a knack at finding the net. Also arriving are 4 youth players from Elche, of which 1 is a local lad, pushing the number of home grown talent up to 4. Ruben is a 19 year old Torrevieja born defender, who teams up with 19 year old full back Bern, a player credited with international honours at youth level. Joining them will be 20 year old midfielder Mario, and 19 year old goalkeeper Marcos. With players now back in training, 3 pre season friendlies (all at Vicente Garcia Stadium): Sat 26 July - v Elche Ilicitano (div 2B) - ko 8pm Tue 12 Aug - v Lorca (div 2B) - ko 8pm Wed 20 Aug - v Mar Menor (div 3) - ko 7.30 pm Don't forget that season tickets are now on sale at the club on Weds evenings, and at the Torry Army office, at a knock down price of only 90 euros. VAMOS TORRY.

She is said to dress very simply and at 39 years of age is regarded as one of the prettiest members of her party.

MÓNICA LORENTE. A career politician, active within her local party since 1989, she joined up at the age of 18 as part of their “new generation” of conservative thinkers. Now, at the age of 43, the former mayor of Orihuela, she has become more infamous in recent years with corruption allegations overshadowing her defeat in the elections in 2011.

EDUARDO DOLÓN. At just 38 years of age, Eduardo Dolón is another career politician, born and raised in Torrevieja, the town he now leads, he was previously the culture councilor under the former mayor, Pedro Hernández Mateo. With a diploma in Business Studies from the University of Alicante, he joined the PP at the age of 19.

MIREIA MOLLÀ. If such a thing existed, Mireia would be a firm contender to take the Miss Political Beauty Queen crown away from Mónica Lorente. Born in Elche in 1982, she has shot to political fame as Alicante´s deputy for the Compromís group since 2007. As a former accountant at the University Miguel Hernández, politics is in her blood, as she is the daughter of Pasqual Mollà i Martínez , leader of the Valencian EUPV group.

CAROLINA GRACIA. A seemingly quiet and unassuming politician, not much is publicly known about the current spokesperson for the Orihuela government team, other than having roots firmly fixed in the municipality she serves. Active in culture, festivities and youth services, as the youngest active member of the Orihuela government she was instrumental in blocking the recent censure motion tabled by the PP, as she formed part of the “table of elders” who refused the motion to take place.

GASSED OFF The city council of Madrid has approved new environmental restrictions on vehicle movements, allowing them to slow down traffic on roads and restrict parking for none-residents, should pollution levels reach a certain risk factor.

OILY BEACH An oil slick has reached the south coastal beaches of Gran Canaria, affecting around a kilometre of beaches. A cleanup operation is underway whilst the cause of the slick is being investigated.

ANOTHER ONE CAUGHT The National Police have arrested William Thomas Robert Paterson in Madrid, one of the most wanted fugitives from the UK being sought as part of Operation Captura. The 37 year old is wanted in connection with a Glasgow shooting incident, as well as other crimes including the illegal possession of weapons.

PREMIER FAKES The Guardia Civil has dismantled a workshop in the town of San Servera on the island of Mallorca, which was dedicated to manufacturing fake merchandise branded as Premier League football goods. Officers seized over 3,000 items thought to be worth 13,000 euro.

AIRBAG RECALL German car manufacturer BMW has issued a recall notice affecting 1.6 million of its series 3 model vehicles worldwide, due to a possible defect in the passenger airbag the vehicles in question were all manufactured between May 1999 and August 2006. The company has said it will notify car owners direct.

COP BOSS FINED The chief of the local police in the western Madrid town of Villaviciosa de Odón failed a breathalyser test after driving his private vehicle off the road on his way home from a flag raising ceremony. No other vehicles were involved in the incident, which is being treated as an administrative offence as he was off duty at the time, and will therefore face a fine and loss of points whilst still keeping his job.

OUT FOR A BITE Bathers on four beaches in Barcelona were surprised that the red flags were raised prohibiting swimming for a 24 hour period this week, whilst the Cruz Roja patrolled the seemingly calm waters to ensure compliance. However, the beaches were closed after the appearance of three sharks off the coastline, presumably looking to enjoy a bit of summer beach time themselves.

GREENLANDS LIFT VALENCIAN CHAMPIONS LEAGUE TROPHY

Well what a final it was between the Southern Blue League Winners Greenlands Jasmines and the Northern League Winners, Javea Green. Those not there missed some really great bowling and nail biting excitement right up to the last bowl – literally! Greenlands finished with 5 points, winning the Ladies Singles, Triples and a draw in the Pairs, whilst Javea Green also had 5 points, winning the Mens Singles, Rinks and a draw in the Pairs and of course played with NO points for overall shots in the Final. So it was all down to a one end shoot out between the Rinks on a neutral rink - oh boy !!! With the skips left to bowl and Greenlands holding shot,

Sheri Fletcher delivered a superb bowl which took the jack cleanly giving Javea Green the shot. Greenlands’ Chip Chapman had one bowl left , he composed himself and drew shot in under a foot from the off centre jack. Sheri had last bowl - what was going to happen ? Try as she could the Greenlands shot stayed. Congratulations to Greenlands and commiserations to Javea Green. You could not have asked for a better final, with a great atmosphere and played in a great spirit, with a match that could have gone either way - well done to both sides.

IN THE BUNKER WITH MICK THE GRIP

JUSTIN ROSE RAISES the Scottish Open trophy. After his recent triumph at Congressional will he add the Claret Jug and make it a hat trick? 2013 OPEN CHAMPION Phil Mickelson said: "I've loved having the Claret Jug this past year, letting people who really appreciate golf drink from it. The best was a 1990 bottle of Romanee Conti, which cost about $40,000!” IN 1936 A NEW ASSISTANT Pro called Sam Snead arrived at the Greenbriar G.C. in W. Virginia. Raised in the backwoods he had taught himself golf using clubs made from tree branches. Sam nearly lost his Greenbriar job when he struck his tee shot on the 335yd 5th hole, and the ball bounded onto the green striking the rear end of Alva Bradley, one of the directors, who was furious until he learned he had been hit by Sam’s tee shot, not his second. He promptly made Sam his personal trainer. Sam could average 320 yard drives with his hickory club, and was said to have “The Perfect Swing.” He won 82 PGA Tour championships, and 7 majors. The “Sam Snead Festival,” a 36 hole pro am, is still held at the Greenbriar annually in honour of “Slammin’ Sam.” PING INTRODUCED their G30 driver at the Greenbriar Classic for the pros to try out. Angel Cabrera promptly won with it, averaging 331 yds in the final round. It makes you appreciate Sam Snead’s shot even more, considering the club he would have used. The G30 features six curved raised lines on the crown called Turbulators, which apparently improve the clubhead aerodynamics. They actually increase drag, but using fluid dynamics (smoke tests) engineers found that they made the air flow closer to the clubhead, reducing the wake produced. Result: more clubhead speed. Cabrera’s average distance improved by roughly 6 yards with the G30. Unfortunately, for those with a normal swing speed the distance gained will be barely a yard. Anyway, distance isn’t everything, as Rory McIlroy, who hit a 435 yd drive in the Scottish Open, could tell you. GRAEME MCDOWELL came from 8 shots behind to retain his French open title, shooting a four under 67 in pouring rain. He said: “It reminded me of going out in all weathers in my teens. I’ve been playing a little too much in America, and I’ve got a bit soft, I needed

a day like today.” SCOTLAND’S BRADLEY NEIL (18) earned his ticket to the next three majors and became the youngest ever to hold the Amateur title with his victory at Royal Portrush. After Garrick Porteous won the British Amateur and Matthew Fitzpatrick the U.S. Amateur in 2013, British youngsters have now won the Amateur, U.S. Amateur and the Amateur again in succession for the first time since 1912. Bradley’s home club is Blairgowrie GC. Perthshire, which has two Championship courses, the 9 hole “Wee Course,” and ‘the most beautiful inland greens in Scotland,’ according to old Tom Morris. TOM WATSON told reporters at Hoylake that his Ryder Cup team is taking shape. “The guys currently in the top places in the standings will probably be on the team. I'm getting to know them all so that I can make informed decisions come September. To that end I personally invited whoever could make it of our top 20 players to join me at Gleneagles the week before the Open Championship so we could all get a look at the Centenary Course.” Must have cost him a bit. Hope they didn’t drink any Romanee Conti! THE UNKNOWN FEMALE sunbathing au naturelle on her balcony at Las Ramblas last week probably heard the crunch as three buggies shunted into each other when their mesmerized drivers approaching the 11th green caught sight of her. After untangling themselves they all took at least four putts. Until next time, Happy Golfing. Contact Mick for your regripping and repairs: 638 859 475

COUNTRY BOWLS CLUB18 JULY By StJohn Broadhurst The season is winding down now and I think we will all be glad to have a rest from the relentless heat out on the green and have a well earned rest by the pool or in a shady spot in the garden. The only game this week for the Badgers was on Friday, 18 July with a home game against the Hornets from La Siesta. Unfortunately the Hornets could only field five teams instead of six, so the Badgers got a two points and ten shots head start and they went on to win four of the five games, as well as the long game. Picking up the points for the Badgers were: Carole Donnellan, Del Gunning, Karen Kirk 29-12. Glynis Broadhurst, StJohn Broadhurst, Trevor Cox 21-12. Doreen Statham, Joel Fernandez, Dot Davies 24-11. Andy White, Billy Price, John Palmer 23-7. Overall shots: Badgers 120 (12 pts) Hornets 62 (2 pts). Final game next week, away to Horadada Hawks. New members are always welcome at Country Bowls, whether you’re a beginner or seasoned bowler, so if you are interested in joining a small and friendly club contact the President Alan Roscoe on 968570876 or the Club Captain Dennis Birkett on 634418783. www.countrybowlsclub.com

SAN JAVIER GOLF SOCIETY, LA SERENA

(Sponsored by Costa Blanca Green Fee Services). Here on the Costa’s golf is one of the biggest leisure time activities for both tourists and resident alike and with this in mind we have secured the services of Mike Probert of Costa Blanca Green Fee Services to provide a weekly round up of local golfing events and topics and in conjunction with us at THE LEADER will provide discounted golf prices to all of our readers and run our golf competitions. ‘Soft Spikes versus Metal Spikes’ When I first started playing golf as a young 16 year old some 40 years ago every golfer wore shoes with metal spikes. If you had enough money you had shoes with leather uppers and leather soles and while you looked the ‘bees knees’ in these when new, polished and ‘dubinned’ if they got wet and you put them in the airing cupboard to dry out the toes used to curl up so you looked like the wicked witch of the west from the Wizard of Oz. Whether you wore top of the range leather shoes or cheap plastic shoes they all had one thing in common which was METAL spikes to which you religiously applied petroleum jelly to the threads so that you could get them out again when they were worn. Now of course metal spikes are virtually outlawed in the game of golf (although some pro’s such as Miguel Angel Jimenez still wear them to this day) as the EXPERTS say that they cause more damage to greens that the new fangled claw like plastic and rubber spikes. Before we go any further please remember that and ‘EX’ is a has been and a ‘SPURT’ is a drip under pressure so take much of what they say with a pinch of salt. Metal spikes are supposed to cause more damage to the greens and to ‘carry’ more diseases that can damage the grasses but while I may wish to look through rose tinted glasses I never RECALL such damage to the greens. On the other hand I regularly see damage to the surface of the greens caused by ‘CLAW’ like spikes more suited to ice climbing rather than golfing. A few days ago I played the excellent course at Bonalba and the greens had been heavily watered and were ‘SOFT’ on the top and the marks on the green from spikes were more than a little worrying. To add to this the latest fashion are the soft pimple soles but from what I can see they just make the greens resemble a ‘waffle’. I guess that we are in the hands of these experts and fashion but from my experience and from what I see on the golf course day to day bring back metal spikes sooner rather than later. WOLFPACK GS JERSEY CUP AT LAS COLINAS First played for in 2002 courtesy of Gordon Smart, this prestigious trophy is always keenly contested and this year was no different. In third place, fresh from his win in Roquetas de Mar, Nigel Cotton with 34 points. Second, with 35 points, Bryan Hirst and this years champion, Joe Booth with 36 points. Joe last won this competition in 2008 and during the intervening years has declared his intention to retire from golf on more than one occasion !!! - Just shows that although ageing is inevitable – talent is permanent. Congratulations Joe, what an example to set for any other despondent golfers. The photo shows Joe Booth receiving his trophy)

CLARKE’S BAR GOLF SOCIETY - HELP FOR HEROES CHARITY DAY

We arrived at La Serena on a hot and sultry day to play an individual and pairs stableford competition, thankfully for our comfort if not our golf a cooling breeze soon got up. The course was in very good condition although the greens were a little slow. Afterwards we returned to Clarkes Bar for a free buffet and the presentations. We are very grateful for all the generous sponsorship that we received not least from La Serena, who reduced their green fee, Mick the Grip, who sponsored the nearest the pins, Steve Hartshorn who also sponsored the nearest the pins, Tommy and Mary Clarke for the free buffet and Kath Rodgers and Sandra Minchin who provided much needed refreshments on the course. We also received signed prints from Paul Mcginley and Tony Jacklin to give as prizes. Results on the day were: Nearest the pins on the par 3s were Robert Wardrop, Patricia Creegan,

John Porter and Charlie Rodgers. Nearest the par 4 13th in 2 was Martin Moon and nearest the par 5 7th in 3 was Derek Moore. The longest drive on hole 18 was John Porter. Winner of the individual stableford with 35 points on count back was Roy Welburn who just pipped John Meyer on better back 6 Winners of the pairs competition with a combined score of 67 points was John Meyer and Patricia Creegan Runners up were Tommy Clarke and Colin Capper with 58 points. After the presentations a signed playing shirt kindly donated by Colin Montgomerie was auctioned off and raised 160 euros, along with all the other activities on the day we managed to raise 700 euros for H4H well done to everyone for all their efforts especially Charlie Rodgers for organizing. Next Week Alicante Golf meet at the bar at 07:45

ROCKET’S GOLF SOCIETY AT VISTABELLA GOLF STABLEFORD COMPETITION - It was down the road to Vistabella Golf where as always the course is in good condition. The greens nearly back to normal with hidden burrows but true, but you still have got to put the ball in the hole. Mike Davies (no relation to last month’s gold winner) knew how to do this as he top scored with 36 points, to take first place in the Gold Division. Ron Chambers was only a point behind him to take first place in the Silver category with 35 points. Well played guys. Congratulations to the “The Popular One” ‘Arfa’ Williams who has taken over at the top of the Player of the Year table with his 4 & 3 win over Peter Nicholls in the Semi-final of the singles. This was the second event in that “Arfa” has picked up third spot in the Silver Division, and was in 2nd spot last time out very consistent. He is now waiting for his opponent in the final when Les Yates meets Rocket Ron in the other Semi Final which will be played at Alicante. RESULTS: CATEGORY ONE - 1st Mike Davies 36 pts, 2nd Ron Swift 34 pts C/B, 3rd Merv Williams 34 pts CATEGORY TWO - 1st Ron Chambers 35 pts; 2nd Malcom Woods 32 pts C/B, 3rd Arthur Williams 32 pts NEAREST THE PINS: Hole 4: Phil Daggart, Hole 8: Les Yates LONGEST DRIVE and BEST GUEST: Stuart Swift 34 points - (playing for an 8 handicap). BENIJOFAR GOLF SOCIETY AT LO ROMERO The July society day was our first visit to the course at Lo Romero for a couple of years and was without a doubt, the best kept course we have played for a long time. Lush green fairways and true greens that played very fairly if you read them correctly. The course was in pristine condition and with the weather being a bit on the windy side, it was going to be a great test of golf for those that could master this course. Numbers for the day were down as is usual for the middle of summer but those that went all seemed to agree that it was well worth the visit and will be back on our future agenda for a regular visit in the future. The majority of players found scoring points hard to come by due to the length of the holes and the fast greens and only five players managed to score in excess of thirty points. On the nearest the pins holes the winners were Andy Trefry who was

nearest on three holes with Duncan Williamson nearest on the other . The most points in the par three competition was won by Geoff Moulds with 10 points and the winner of the par fives was Alec Aspen with 9 points. In third place was Graeme Card with 36 points and the runner up on the day was Roy Greenway with 37 points. Winner on the day was Andy Trefry with a fine score of 39 points and a handicap reduction to boot ! The winner of the “2”s pot was also won by Andy Trefry and when the football draw was done i quite expected him to win that, but it was won by Dave Smith (again) to soften the blow for the lowest score on the day ! Thanks go to John Sanchez for donating prizes for meals at the Indian Restaurant and to Yolande and Ron at the Sportsman bar for laying on the food after the event. Next outing Roda Golf 13th August. HUB SPORTS BAR GOLF SOCIETY VILLAMARTIN

Another successful day for the Hub Villamartin Golf Society, this time at Roda. With fine weather and the course being given 9 out of 10 from the Society, stableford scoring was expected to be high. It was however fairly modest, with the exception of regular visitor, but now new member Peter Hogg. The newbie not only found himself on each of the three nearest the pin markers (but only managing to win 2) but attained a tremendous round concluding with 41 points off a 23 handicap. Playing the back 9 first Hogg amassed 23 points, but eased off for the front line scoring his handicap for another 18 points. No ¨blobs¨ and 4 one pointers raised one or two eyebrows, but it was a tremendous performance from the likeable Englishman. Just the two birdies from the Hubbers this outing, one from second placed Colin Wilson on the 350 yard Par 4 12th incidentally the amiable Geordie added a further 6 pars to justify a podium finish. Veteran John Eyre, who somehow always finds himself in the news these days, was the other birdie man on the Par 4 14th, holing out from 8ft after a delightful approach shot from 145 yards. Despite calling himself an occasional player, the larger than life Dom Harris still manages to turn it on whenever required. A front 9 of 19 points wasn’t quite reproduced on the remaining 9, but 34 points was enough to win him PJ´s Rentacars best guest award. The Hubbers next event will be at La Finca for captain Simon Williams´ ¨drive in¨, this coming Sunday 27th July. Guests are welcome to register at the Hub (Villamartin) to play, places are limited. Results: N.T.P´s: Hole 11 Peter Hogg, Hole 13 Peter Hogg, Hole 8 (in 2) Paul Durrant. PJ Rentacars Best Guest: Dom Harris 34 pts Hub Grand Prix 1st Peter Hogg 41 pts, 2nd Colin Wilson 34 pts, 3rd Simon Lee 31 pts Picture shows L-R Peter Hogg and Dom Harris
