Another exceptional event, filled with pomp, ceremony and fun, was held by the local branch of the Royal Naval Association at the La Laguna Hotel on the 21st October, the anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar and the passing of our hero, Admiral Lord Viscount Nelson.

The Branch Shipmates (S/M’s) were once again proud and privileged to have Captain Stephen McGlory Royal Navy | Defence Attache | British Embassy, as guest of honour at this year’s remarkable event. They were also delighted to have two branch S/M’s, Frank Goodman, Marine Engineering Artificer 1st class RN. Retd. and Helen Goodman, Radio/Communications Operator RNR. Retd; members for over 20 years and who had received their Certificates in October.

Among the merry band of ‘swash bucklers’ with branch S/M’s, families, friends and civilians were of course our ‘oppos’ the Royal Marines (up in the masts looking over us with their muskets).

Adding to the throng were representatives from the RAF and Merchant Navy, and by way of a special treat we had Peter Golding who was a Lance Corporal in The Royal Yeomanry, Territorial Army (TA) and John Hunt, who was a Staff Sergeant in the Royal Engineers for 24 years, with their respective partners.

The evening commenced with a CAVA reception to the sound of naval military music, while everyone ‘got chatting’ and the ‘old sea dogs’ were able to ‘swing the lamp’ and tell a ‘yarn or two’.

The ensemble, whilst stood at their respective dining tables, were then treated to a spectacle of the six Standards being paraded in by S/M Bryan Dalton (Branch Standard), S/M Tom Patterson (Union Jack), S/M Mike Cockman (Spanish Flag), S/M Danny Kay (White Ensign), S/M Steve Hemingfield (on behalf of the RN submarine service) and a guest Michael Westhead, (on behalf of the Merchant Navy), which were all ceremonially received by the branch Vice Chairman, S/M Graham Shelton, and all to the sound of ‘Hart of Oak’.

Following the superb three course meal, we had the tradition of ‘passing the port ‘ to charge glasses in order to Toast Su Majestad Rey (King) Felipe VI of Spain and Queen Letizia of Spain (which was taken standing) and His Majesty King Charles III and Queen Camilla of the United Kingdom (which was taken seated in the traditional Royal Navy style). Prior to the final Toast to Admiral Lord Viscount Nelson, the audience were treated to an enlightening and amusing account of the life of Horatio Nelson by Captain Stephen McGory.

ORIHUELA COSTA: THE TRUE HEART OF THE MUNICIPALITY

Despite what is often said, Orihuela Costa is the true epicentre of the Orihuela Municipality. As the economic engine of the region, the coast drives prosperity, yet the city frequently tarnishes our reputation.

Orihuela has seen its mayors systematically charged or prosecuted, a situation that has sadly become the norm.

In April 2022, crucial votes by PSOE, Cambiemos, and C’s ousted Mayor Emilio Bascuñana and the PP from power, installing a new mayor and coalition council. Hopes were high that this change would restore Orihuela Costa's reputation as one of Spain's crown jewels, but those hopes were short-lived. The new government, like its predecessors, only paid lip service to the coast, promising much but delivering little.

Ironically, at a recent Valencia Day fiesta, Mayor Sr Vegara called for political unity, claiming that Orihuela would no longer be treated as a second-class municipality under the Partido Popular.

Yet, he seems to have forgotten how his party has neglected Orihuela Costa for many years.

The local government has been likened to a dog chasing cars—once it catches one, it doesn't know what to do. Both PP and Vox fought to get into power but now they seem clueless about how to govern effectively.

IF YOU DO NOT VOTE, THEN DO NOT COMPLAIN.

To end this cycle of neglect and repair the coast's image, everyone eligible to vote must do so. Abstaining from voting forfeits your chance to influence leadership and policies that affect your life. This can result in elected officials and policies that don't reflect your interests or values, as has been the case for many years in Orihuela Costa.

Our councillors may have education and university degrees, but that doesn't guarantee their suitability or competence for their positions and high salaries. In Orihuela, many positions are allegedly filled through nepotism and favours, leading to unfair decisions and diminished workplace harmony and efficiency.

Despite Orihuela being a historical city, 90% of tourism comes to the coast. However, with high council staffing costs and many classical buildings in disrepair, the city is dying and entirely dependent on revenue generated by Orihuela Costa.

We are the economic lifeblood of the municipality—cut us off, and we will both die!

AVCRL ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The AVCRL AGM will take place in the Playa Flamenca Town Hall Assembly Room on Thursday 14 November with the first call at 4.30 pm.

Items to be reported will include actions carried out to date as well as a forecast of those to be introduced in the coming year.

Access to the Town Hall must be through the back door of the building.

Members who cannot attend the assembly and want to delegate their vote must email avocaorihuelacosta@gmail.com, indicating the name and surname of the member who will represent them.

ORIHUELA COUNCIL HIT WITH €90,000 FINE

Orihuela City Council has been fined 89,100 euros for a late payment of insurance premiums. The error has led to a disciplinary investigation against the city treasurer.

Additionally, the city's Social Services department is facing a precarious future due to an expiring program contract.

The council has not yet announced whether it will renew the contract or consolidate the positions of the current staff.

Opposition party Cambiemos has warned that if the council fails to

act, more than half of the Social Services staff could be laid off.

This would severely impact the department's ability to provide essential services.

The council has dismissed these claims as "irresponsible" and "totally false," assuring that they are taking steps to stabilize the workforce.

This situation reflects the broader challenges faced by many local governments in Spain, including financial pressures and difficulties in maintaining adequate staffing levels for essential services.

FIVE ILLEGAL COSTA TAXI DRIVERS TO BE PROSECUTED

The Orihuela Council has launched disciplinary actions against five suspected illegal taxi drivers in response to concerns from licensed taxi drivers about the unregulated market. It is reported that Local Police identified the individuals in September.

The lack of licensed operators often results in long queues and wait times, especially at places like La Zenia Boulevard, and particularly during the summer when the population surges

The taxi guild has urged Transport Councillor Victor Siguenza to issue more licenses, proposing seven new ones to help alleviate demand.

Meanwhile.illegal operators have been accused of exploiting the situation by offering services at taxi stands and advertising on social media.

LA ZENIA BOULEVARD

A BEACON OF ACCESSIBILITY. Achieving 5 AIS Stars for Inclusive Shopping

La Zenia Boulevard Shopping Centre, managed by Nhood and owned by Ceetrus and CBRE Investment Management, has been awarded a prestigious 5-star rating from the international AIS accessibility certification.

This recognition underscores the shopping center's commitment to creating an inclusive environment for all individuals.

The AIS (Accessibility Indicator System) certification, developed by the Foundation for Accessibility and Social Responsibility (ARS), evaluates the accessibility of physi-

cal, functional, and virtual structures. The 5star rating represents the highest level of excellence in accessibility, ensuring that the space is usable, safe, and inclusive for everyone, including people with disabilities, the elderly, pregnant women, and more.

La Zenia Boulevard's 5-star rating highlights its numerous accessibility features, such as accessible outdoor and indoor routes, adapted toilets, a breastfeeding room, an accessible service point, reserved parking spaces, and accessible evacuation routes.

Esther Bienes Pinedo, Director of the ARS Foundation, commended Nhood for their dedication to creating accessible com-

mercial spaces. She emphasized the importance of the AIS standard in ensuring that no citizen is excluded.

Cristina Ros, Director of La Zenia Boulevard, expressed her pride in achieving this certification. She stated that accessibility has been a top priority from the inception of the shopping center. The goal has always been to create a comfortable, safe, and inclusive environment for everyone. This achievement is a testament to Nhood's ongoing efforts to create diverse, safe, and comfortable spaces that cater to the needs of all individuals.

Is Tourism to be our next Taboo?

Manchan Mangan, naturalised Westmeath man and national treasure, has given up travelling by plane.

This, from a man who has made his name recording his adventures all over the world is indeed a consequential sacrifice to make.

Manchan has decided to take a stand against the negative impact that air-travel – and especially unnecessary flights are having on climate change.

30 Million Passengers land at Dublin airport alone every year; which includes 7 million tourists. Vested interests are lobbying to have these numbers increased. There used to be a compulsory 2 minute minimum gap between flights taking off at London’s Heathrow Airport, but this got tighter and tighter until now the next plane takes off as soon as daylight can be seen underneath the wheels of the previous departure. Planes just cannot be got into the sky quickly enough anymore.

There are around ten thousand airplanes in the sky at any one time, carrying well in access of a million passengers. Let us throw in the spanner without dallying; how many of those million trips are of the necessary variety?

In order to avoid being placed in the dock of hypocrisy, I need to give witness to the tourist truism that I have always loved travel and visiting new places.

I was born with ‘ants in my pants.’

But the ceist has to be asked of all of us at this stage, are we prepared to continue damaging the Planet for the sake of social travel and ‘touristing’?

How much are we contributing to an environmental disaster? A million passengers on ten thousand planes every two minutes - and yet most of the talk among the chattering classes centres on a cow breaking wind out in a green field?

The cow cannot change, because God made the cow that way – a long time ago.

Meanwhile back on the ground the effects of overcrowding tourist spots are becoming painfully obvious. Environments are being damaged while the infrastructure of regions is being strained.

Pollution, soil erosion, natural habitats damaged and pressure on endangered species of plants and living creatures.

This is the expensive price being paid for the cheap holiday. There is a litter stain at beauty spots and often a problem created by the increase in water consumption and unsustainable pressure on sewage systems.

Major tourist locations like The Burren in County Clare are beginning to say; ‘enough is enough.’ The Italian city of Venice put the brakes on excessive tourism last year by introducing a tourist tax for day trippers ... that’s another thing; very often this type of tourism leaves no

money where it deserves to be left. Venice has also banned tourist groups of more than 25 people. As tourism continues to grow, we are likely to see more limits on visitors to fragile areas.

We are constantly told of the financial benefits of tourism – and of course this is correct. ‘Look at all the jobs it creates’, we are told. But on that score, the arguments can also be made that tourism encourages dependence on tourism. Increased jobs are only seasonal in nature, thus causing unemployment in the off season.

Spain is a country which depends massively on tourism to boost its economy. Here again, I must declare a personal interest. We have family there and a holiday home, so we flit back and forth very regularly on those cheap flights.

But even in this lovely country, so dependent on tourism, there is a growing groundswell of opinion opposing over tourism. The strength of this push back is higher than you might have imagined.

A recent survey shows that as many as 32% of Spaniards believe that their local area receives too many international visitors. This figure is an astonishingly high of 48% in Catalonia, where Barcelona is the capital.

A similar poll in France found that 18% of the people there believe that their country is having too many foreign visitors. !6% in Italy and 13% polled in Germany feel

3. Use the Ryanair App: The app offers features like free online check-in and seat selection, which can save you time and money.

4. Be Flexible with Seat Assignments: While you can pay to choose a specific seat, opting for a randomly assigned seat can save you money.

FAMILY CELEBRATION FOR LOUISA’S 100TH

On

She will be joined by her two sons, Leslie and Ronnie, aged 82 and 80 respectively, along with Care Home staff and friends, as well as, we hope, a card from King Charles. Louisa was born in the East End of London on 28th October 1924, the same year as Britain elected it’s first Labour Government. She worked for many years as a Machinist, and during the 2nd World War made parachutes. In 1970 she and husband Les bought land on Mi Sol Park, in Torrevieja,

EDEN ROC TO REOPEN AS LUXURY HOTEL

The iconic Eden Roc building, once a renowned brothel in the Vega Baja region, is set to reopen as a luxury hotel.

A French company has acquired the property and plans to restore it to its original state, transforming the abandoned building into a high-end accommodation. The hotel will feature approximately thirty rooms, landscaped grounds, and a swimming pool, offering a unique and luxurious experience for visitors.

The renovation project has faced some administrative challenges due to the building's proximity to the coast, but the City Council has granted the necessary permits, allowing the company to proceed with the restoration.

The Eden Roc is considered consolidated urban land, meaning it is not subject to demolition regulations, ensuring that its historic character is preserved.

on which they put a caravan. They holidayed there for many years, until they took early retirement, alternating their time between their homes in St. Neots and Torrevieja.

When they were both 80, they moved to Torrevieja permanently, where she and Les built up a large circle of friends. While Les was still alive the pair travelled extensively before, 10 years after their arrival in Torrevieja, they moved into Los Jardines de Clara, just across the road from Mi Sol Park, where she will be celebrating today.

I am sure that all Leader readers will join the staff in wishing Louisa a very happy birthday with her family and friends.

The reopening of the Eden Roc aligns with the City Council's efforts to expand the hotel facilities in Torrevieja and contribute to the city's tourism industry.

While the city promotes the preservation of its remaining undeveloped coastline, it also recognizes the economic benefits of tourism and the need for more hotel accommodation.

The restoration of the Eden Roc is expected to attract discerning travellers seeking a luxurious and historic experience in the heart of Torrevieja.

Monday 28th October, Louisa Harris will be celebrating her 100th birthday in Torrevieja at Los Jardines de Clara Care Home.

Torrevieja Salt Flats a major boost to local Economy and Exports

Torrevieja's salt flats are increasing exports to meet the rising demand for road deicing salt in Europe. NCAST plans to export over 250,000 tons of salt this winter, double last year’s amount. Successful salt production in 2023-2024, with favourable weather, has allowed storage of over 450,000 tons.

Known for high-quality sea salt, the flats also draw tourists with unique landscapes and educational tours. Despite challenges like freshwater intrusion and nitrate pollution, the industry significantly boosts Torrevieja's economy by providing jobs and supporting local businesses.

SCOTTISH COUPLE GET APPROVAL TO SUE OVER WINTER FUEL PAYMENT

Peter and Florence Fanning from Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire, have been told they can proceed with a legal challenge against the scrapping of the universal winter fuel benefit for all UK pensioners.

They argue that the UK and Scottish governments failed to consult adequately with pensioners and did not release an equality impact assessment.

The judicial review, approved by a judge, will move to a full hearing on January 15 at the Court of Session in Edinburgh.

The Fannings seek a ruling on whether the decision was unlawful, aiming to restore the benefit.

Govan Law Centre, representing the couple, expressed delight at the permission granted and now awaits a decision next week on the granting of civil legal aid.

MOTORHOME PARKING DISPUTE CONTINUES

Residents of the Mar Azul residential complex in Torrevieja are still facing issues with camper vans and motorhomes parked in a nearby car park. Despite the City Council's efforts to close the unauthorized area, camper vans have returned, causing frustration. The Council ordered the car park's closure last year, citing its designation as private parking for cars only.

Irish and Spanish Police Target Crime Gang

Irish and Spanish police forces have conducted joint operations to target the activities of the Hutch organized crime group. The group is suspected of involvement in money laundering across multiple jurisdictions. Searches were carried out in both countries, with Irish police assisting Spanish authorities in Dublin and Spanish police supporting Irish counterparts in Spain.

The investigation is part of an ongoing effort to dismantle the transnational criminal network. The Hutch gang is notorious for its violent feud with the Kinahan gang, which has led to numerous deaths over the past decade.

However, camper vans continue to park overnight, turning it into an unauthorized campsite.

Councillor for Police Federico Alarcon confirmed that the issue has resurfaced and steps are being taken to address it, emphasising that the space is not licensed for overnight stays.

Bus, coach and taxi drivers to strike

Spanish transport unions and employers' organisations reached a partial agreement on early retirement on Thursday. However, the agreement has not completely eliminated the threat of a Christmas strike. Although the strike in haulage transport has been called off, bus and coach drivers did not achieve the same outcome and have announced strike action on 28 October, 11, 28, and 29 November, and 5 and 9 December. Additionally, taxi drivers have declared they will join the strike action, which will become indefinite starting from 23 December.

GASTRONOMIC PILAR

Pilar de la Horadada's first Gastronomic Days, held during the 2024 Patronal Festivities, were a culinary triumph.

The Plaza de la Iglesia became a bustling outdoor kitchen, drawing hundreds of locals and visitors with delicious food, live music, and engaging workshops.

The event featured Surinever's presentation and tasting of fresh produce, followed by La Granja's showcooking demo with a savory twist on fried flowers.

Day two featured a biscuit-making workshop for kids by Panaderia Jose Antonio, a salted fish tasting from Cuna del Salazon, and Bocarriba Cocina's creative sea bass loin dish.

Spain poised to overtake France as Top Destination

Spain is set to surpass France as the world's most visited country by 2040, according to Braintrust.

Spain's foreign tourist arrivals are expected to reach 115 million annually by then.

In 2024, Spain is projected to welcome over 91 million travelers, with spending exceeding ˇ125 billion.

Factors driving this growth include the international context, economic developments, and the appeal of Spanish destinations.

While popular regions like Andalusia and Madrid continue to draw tourists, other areas such as Galicia and Asturias are gaining popularity.

Visitors' daily expenditure is expected to double by 2030, reaching e280, and could rise to e340

This tourism trend shift presents significant opportunities for Spain's economy but challenges France to innovate and adapt to maintain its position in the tourism market.

UK PENSIONERS OWED MILLIONS

A widespread error has led to thousands of married state pensioners being underpaid for years.

Many married women who reached state pension age before April 2016 missed out on a pension boost based on their husband's National Insurance record due to being unaware they had to apply for it. Jan Tiernan, 84, is among the affected,

underpaid by £24 per week for 18 years. She believes the DWP failed to inform her properly, despite claiming to have sent a notification. This oversight has resulted in significant financial loss for her and many others.

The issue likely stems from complex rules and poor communication from the DWP, raising concerns about the fairness of the state pension system. As more women discover the underpayment, the DWP faces pressure to address the problem and compensate those affected.

One in Three Medications Interfere with Your Ability to Drive

Over 6,000 prescription medications, some of which are commonly and routinely prescribed, can cause interactions in our ability to drive.

If we take into account data from the DGT, traffic incidents are the fifth most frequent cause of death in Spain, and around 5% of road traffic incidents are related to medications.

That figure does not include the many drivers who use medications that do not require a prescription and are unaware and underestimate the effects that they can also present.

According to information from the drug database of the General Council of Pharmaceutical Colleges, 33.9% of drugs include a pictogram -a red equilateral triangle with a black car inside on a white background- that warns about their possible interaction with driving.

These can cause anything from drowsiness to a sedative effect.

Other effects are the reduction of reflexes and increased reaction time (due to decreased concentration or the ability to remain alert), altered perception of distances, ophthalmological or hearing alterations, states of confusion and light-headedness, and muscle disturbances.

To control these possible effects, it is recommended to avoid driving when starting a treatment that could potentially reduce reflex-

es or visual capacity, to take special care with the joint administration of several medications, and of course, not to consume alcohol. It is important to remember that some medicines include alcohol in their composition, and that it is advisable to consult the prospectus to know its total content.

If you take any prescribed medication, it is important to look at the box, read the information leaflet, and ask your medical advisor, be that the doctor, pharmacist, or other qualified professional, how it interacts with driving. It is important to ask a professional, as some medications can also interact with each other, and a single tablet can have a different effect on an individual, matters that your friend or neighbour is not qualified to comment on, which is why expert advice is important over

those who are unqualified, even those who may be taking the same medication.

If the box displays the pictogram mentioned of a road sign, red and triangular, with a black car inside, it is vital that you check in that case.

Some prescription medication can result in a

driver failing a roadside drugs test, which can, in turn, lead to a fine.

In any case, each situation must be assessed individually by a health professional, since, as we say, the same medication may not affect one person and significantly affect another. Even the same drug could influence the same person differently, at different times.

SAN MIGUEL GS AT SAURINES DE LA TORRE

Saurines de la Torre – a desert-style course they say…. well, it certainly wasn’t desert-like with the day starting in torrential rain, prompting wet weather gear and umbrellas being hastily dusted off and utilised to their fullest degree! However, the camaraderie and spirit of the society shone through despite the weather (and course) challenges. Another 48 avid golfers set off in varying degrees of being soaked. It dried up but the clouds threatened and released their fury a couple of times more during the round. The course was in very good shape with super-fast greens. It was necessary to hit your spot, otherwise with the undulations and slopes one’s ball soon disappeared! There was a fair bit of surface water in lower areas and bunkers.

Despite the challenging start, members and guests enjoyed the day, showcasing resilience and enthusiasm for the game. Overall, it was a successful event with valuable lessons

learned for future outings (pack dry clothes….).

There were some good (and some not so good – you know who you are “Captain”) scores: with the best of the day coming from Steve Webb (38 points).

Gold: Stuart Tosh (pic. middle) 33 points

Silver: Steve Webb (pic. 2nd right) 38 points and best score of the day

Bronze: Carmel McCann (pic. 2nd left) 36 pts

A Two was secured by Guy Wade-Palmer (again this week!) and Humphrey Kelleher (our resident author) winning the all-important cash from the Twos Pot.And Nearest the Pins winning a sleeve of balls each were Richard Whitely, Dave Smith, Steve Webb, Guy Wade-Palmer.Our best guest, also winning a sleeve of balls, was Colin Fawcett. We had a happy John Osborne (he of Galaxy Golf fame) winning the football card with his favourite Wolves beneath that silver scratchy bit.

CARP R US @ BIGASTRO/JACARILLA

Round nine of the Carp-R-Us Summer/Autumn Series was fished at Bigastro/Jacarilla. No one knew quite what to expect when we arrived as there had been heavy rain the day before and also bank clearing operations had been taking place upstream, leading to lots of rubbish floating through the match stretch earlier in the week. As it turned out, after a chilly start the match was fished in ideal conditions with the river at a decent height and flow.

As is often the case, the end pegs offered the best sport. Clear winner from the down stream end, opposite the inlet, was Steve Fell

MLS Outrage Over FIFA's Club World Cup Decision

Inter Miami CF, the MLS club owned by David Beckham, has secured a controversial spot in the expanded 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. Their qualification, as the host nation's representative, was granted due to winning the 2024 MLS Supporters' Shield, a decision that has sparked debate within the league.

While the inclusion of Lionel Messi in Inter Miami's squad is expected to boost the tournament's global appeal, many critics argue that the selection process lacks fairness and transparency. They question why a team that hasn't even secured a playoff berth was cho-

sen over other potential candidates who have demonstrated consistent success over multiple seasons.

The controversy surrounding Inter Miami's participation highlights the challenges faced by the Club World Cup in establishing itself as a truly prestigious global tournament. As the event approaches, the debate over its format, selection criteria, and overall value is likely to intensify.

When Eduardo Carrillo’s daughter, Julia, asked what he did for a living, he answered simply, “I make sure people enjoy their free time.” This philosophy has guided him throughout his career.

With a degree in Business Administration, a master's in Sports Facilities Management, and a Club Manager diploma, Carrillo naturally gravitated towards the sports industry. He began in 2006 at

"Go and Golf," a Valencian golf tour operator, and later ventured into marketing for the Joma brand, linked to Valencia FC.

His love for golf ignited during his first lesson with Rafa Perez at Foressos Golf, leading to his pursuit of the sport at every opportunity he got, achieving a handicap of 14.4.

In 2013, Carrillo became the manager at Las Pinaillas Golf course in Albacete, a position he held until 2023.

After a year in consultancy and business development, he joined Lo Romero Golf in August 2024, aiming to enhance customer experiences.

Carrillo's philosophy centres on creating a welcoming environment and ensuring smooth operations. He emphasizes the importance of sustainability, particularly in maintaining the course's high standards. His personal connection to the sport and his commitment to providing memorable experiences drive his work at Lo Romero Golf.

DEJA VU AS THADER CONCEDE LATE, LATE GOAL

Just as they did in the first game of the season,Thader conceded a penalty deep into stoppage time.

But,as with that game at Torrevieja,a draw was probably a fair result on chances created, although it’s always a bitter pill to swallow with only seconds remaining.

Manager Raul Mora elected to start with his namesake Raul,a just reward for his goal scoring performance as a sub in last weekends match at Redovan.

On 15 mins, only a magnificent save by Chema denied a goal bound header by Olleria striker Peiro. In the space of 2 mins, first Dantele shot narrowly wide of Chema’s far post, then when he did put the ball in the net,he

was adjudged to be in an offside position.

When Serhiy’s shot was fumbled by visiting keeper Aimar, the ball was begging to be bundled into the back of the net,but alas support was not forthcoming.

Conditions were becoming tricky in this rain affected match, but there was no shortage of drama.Dantele was once again in the thick of the action on 31 mins, when his effort was just off target, before Thader took the lead.

Straight from Chema’s goal kick,a well worked move involving Berni and Javi resulted in Tremino forcing Aimar into another worldly save. From the resultant corner,Fran hit a scorcher on the half volley from the edge of the box, giving Aimar no chance.

Chema was again called into action on 35 mins, producing a fingertip save to deny Genito, before Tremino was guilty of squandering a golden opportunity, when he shot wide 6 mins later.

L’Olleria equalised in the 7th minute of added time

As the rain became relentless, conditions were increasingly difficult, but both teams continued with their entertaining attacking football - a credit to the Community League.

Yerhay was the next visiting player to test Chema’s goalkeeping credentials, but once again, Thader’s no 1 dealt admirably with the danger.

Twas that man Dantele who almost stole the show, but his firm header from a right wing

cross,just missed the target.

Peruvian Pepelu unleashed a glorious goalbound effort on 72 mins, but Aimar saved well to deny Thader’s diminutive midfielder a maiden goal for his new club.

Late on,Raul rattled Thader’s woodwork on 75 mins, then with normal time almost up,Yeray blasted a free kick wide of the target.

With 97 mins on the clock, ref

Emilio Menel awarded a penalty for handball against Javi. The resultant spot kick was confidently dispatched by Yeray, leaving all concerned to wonder where all the additional minutes added on came from!!

A point apiece sees Thader slip to 4th,whilst Olleria remain 2nd to bottom.

Next weekend,Thader make the long journey north to 3rd place Tavernes. It is advised to check CD Thader facebook page for up to date info on this and other Thader related events.

SCTORREVIEJA 2 BENIGANIM CF 1

While Thader succumbed to a late penalty in their 1-1 draw to L’Olleria, SCTorrevieja profited from a similar award as they grabbed a late winner from the spot at home to Beniganim. Anton had opened the scoring for the home side in just the 4th minute of the game but a free kick on the edge of the area for the visitors was converted just before the interval to level the scores.

Beniganim should have gone in front in the 88th minute but the miss proved costly with Matias then converting to take all 3 points and move Torry to the top of the table for the first time this campaign
