By Tabatha Thurman / Contributing Writer UCO, known for its large population of commuter students, is feeling the recent increase in gas prices. Lauren Sickles, 20, a commuting student from Chandler, said that the rise in gas prices has hampered her ability to visit her parents and therefore has cut into her time with family and friends. According to a KOCO report aired on Sunday, March 4, gas prices were 17.7 cents per gallon higher than this time last year, and are 30.6 cents per gallon higher than a month ago. Patrick Dehaan, senior petroleum analyst for

GasBuddy.com, said in a prepared statement last week that consumers could expect to see more rises in price as we head into spring. “Gasoline prices have spiked considerably high in virtually every area over the last two weeks, and while I don’t expect the pace of the recent rise in process to continue for the entire month, a similar jump may again occur closer to April Fool’s Day, and it won’t be a funny joke, it’ll be disgusting reality,” Dehaan said. California is currently the state with the highest price per gallon, averaging $4.20 per gallon. Wyoming is the state with the lowest, averaging $3.15 per gallon.
