2nd Quater Voice of Manifestation Newsletter

Page 1

The Vision of the “Voice of Manifestations” Newsletter is to communicate the various events to our partners and the community. Thus, it helps to build and enhance relationships between the two. The newsletter is also a mechanism to evangelize, encourage, build and lift up. The Voice focuses on the four aspect of Manifestations Worldwide, which are Spiritual Trainings, Education, Job and Housing. Our prayer is that God is touching someone’s life through the Voice of Manifestation Newsletter (VOM). Ultimately, our desire is to be obedient to the commission God has given us; to go and spread the gospel. All we need is an audience; someone that is interested, ready to listen, with a heart to receive. Many go door to door; but VOM newsletter travel email to email; across the country and around the world, seeking the heart in need of a word. And teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthews 28:20 (NIV)

A Note from the Editor Dear Reader, As you know the focus of VOM is to communicate what is happening in the community, as well as to minister to those that are in need of a word and have an open heart to receive. This month we want to take this opportunity to remind you that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins and that you still have an opportunity to receive eternal life. It is FREE... and as simple as: A Admit that you are a sinner B Believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God and died for your sins C Confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior If this is what you believe and are ready to confess, repeat this prayer: “I know I am a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness Father. I believe Jesus died for my sins and rose from the dead. I trust and follow Him as my Lord and Savior. Guide my life and help me Lord, to do your will in Jesus name, Amen.” We encourage you to tell someone about “Eternal Life” and invite them to receive Jesus as Lord and Savior. Proverbs 11:30- The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise. Until the next one,

You are the Voice!

I AM Your Father

“Hope for the Fatherless” Ms. Sonya My son had an earthly father that loved him, wanted him and had plans for his life; but he is no longer with us. My husband passed away back in 2008 four days after my oldest son was sentenced to serve a ten-year bid in prison. So at that time it was just my baby boy and I. I knew he would need a father-figure. The Big Brother Big Sister path didn’t work. He had four mentors to drop him and neither him nor I have heard from any of them as to why they fell off. Unfortunately, three of the four mentors were pastors. I was very disappointed in my search for support as a single mom raising a boy. I asked who I was advised to ask in the church, I posted on Facebook, met with other groups that were suggested to me; but NOTHING opened up. I cried out to God for my son! “Father! Jesus died for him too; He came so that my son could have life and that more abundantly. Lord, HELP!” and He did. The help didn’t come right away. There were more disappointments, however God began to teach ME some things...thus how the help began to come. He showed me my heart and how I had become bitter towards these men, and that I needed to address the entitlement spirit that was growing along with the tri-fold cluster of fear, doubt and unbelief. I was projecting this mindset onto my son. (Forgive me Lord) As I dealt with my heart issues, God further taught me where my focus should have been until the change occurs. He says to me, “I AM HIS FATHER, before he was born, I knew him, and I chose you and his dad in accordance to My blueprint design for his life. I’m the ONE who knows and understands the original intentions for his very existence. Now help him begin to

seek Me for I AM HIS FATHER.” There’s NOT enough room to explain what this reveal did for me in my sons life. I began to minister God’s heart to my son and helping him work through his emotional turmoil regarding a father. My son does have a mentor now, (Bless the Lord) and I better understand why things went the way they did. (Heart check) As we seek the Father’s heart, He will reveal the truth of the matter and what the focus should actually be. Yes, my son was fatherless and had need of a natural father – figure in his life, and yes more men should pray and ask God about being a father to the fatherless, however, what someone else choses to do or not to do is of no consequence when we know whose we are...children of God. God is a Father to the fatherless, He is our support. (Psalm 146:9) So to all those who are fatherless, I say to you the very same thing our heavenly Father said to me for my son, “I AM your Father, before you were born, I knew you! I chose your mother and father in accordance to My blueprint design for your life. I AM the ONE who knows and understands the original intentions for your very existence. Seek Me, says the Lord, for I AM YOUR FATHER!”

The Unveiling… For a 21st Century Woman. I want to make a very clear distinction that this is not about educating you on or about the 21st century woman. This is about unveiling the eyes and perspective of what blinds us as 21st century women. Let’s begin by having a picture of who we are as 21st century women. We are pioneers! Since the women’s right movement, society, culture, and family norms have pushed us to attain quality education. Ivey league schools are a reality, climbing corporate ladders and driving expensive cars have seeped into an illustration of what has defined “I’ve made it.” We are business owners and mentors; we are activist and world travelers. Today people joke around about whether women can cook like your “momma” when back in older times that would have never been questioned… That would have been part of your “grooming” per se. You would have felt you “made it” when you became a house wife, and were married. Today we are no longer that. Today we are the heads of our own household, we manage our own finances, and strive to be financially sound, debt free, and on the path of building a

wealth machine. We walk tall at being efficient in swiftly carrying multiple hats. We have developed and embraced our Individuality in this race of life, and we have shed tears doing so. Therefore we are proud (and rightfully so)! Individuality my dears is what allows you to be found. To be found by opportunities and by what we ultimately are working for and towards… A husband. At the same time that very individuality is what blinds us to this truth: INDIVIDUALITY GETS YOU THERE, BUT IT’S INFLUENCE THAT KEEPS YOU SOARING! In my journey as a single woman, and mother I often heard “you are impactful, you are powerful!” With me not knowing how to receive that I would dismiss it. To be honest at times it would annoy me. I would however grab on to everything that said “Become whole” “ work out your own inequities” “ get deliverance” … the list goes on

. Anything that spoke to me becoming a “better me” a whole me I would pour into. I find that to be true amongst many single women. Making sure they are not “too emotional” and have found inner security so they can be “ready” to engage that “ONE” that was heading their way. Even as I write this, I laugh, that was me! Oh if I had only known then what I know now! The only level of influence I could relate to, or look at as a point of reference when understanding what such meant was my son. I have influence over him… then again I am the boss of him! So how much could I really learn from that? While all body parts do and must work together, there are not two parts that are more in need of each other than the Head, and the Neck; The Head (your husband/ head of household) and the Neck (You and Your influence!) I had mastered being both, and you have too! This is something that must and will break if marriage is what you are after. I looked up the word Influence. Webster states it’s “The act or power of producing an effect without apparent exertion of force or direct exercise of command” further it reads “An emanation (to come out from a source) of spiritual or moral force” I look back and realize that I had an understanding of this at a basic level in my career and business endeavors and that was about it! I had spent endless energy in prayer, and fasting, and crying, that this generational mantel of “MANIPULATION” be removed from me (Oh we can get so spiritual sometimes with our selves!) and so the essence of “Influence” something I dismissed, and

buried if you will at the risk of not being “manipulative” anymore. I had no clue how to influence and it not feel like manipulation. Dear 21st century sister, in this journey balance your development by learning and becoming a master of what is your influence. How does it sound, look, feel? How does it encourage, and blaze trails? How does it work when the head wants to look right and you feel it needs to look up? How do you submit (letting go of your own headship) and solely be the neck of influence? It will undergird your confidence and identity (individuality) and allow you to soar when the breaking of your next level takes place.

Not Just For Teachers Only! By Eva Thomas Johnson

The Gold Process Did you know that there are 419 scriptures in the Bible where Gold is mentioned? Did you know that Gold is actually edible? (Well, it depends on the form it is in!) According to Francis Key, founder and scientist of the Colloidal Scientific Laboratory, Inc. in his article entitled, “A Brief History Of The Health Support Uses Of Gold, he writes: The earliest records of the use of gold for medicinal and healing purposes come from Alexandria, Egypt. Over 5,000 years ago, the Egyptians ingested gold for mental, bodily and spiritual purification. The ancients believed that gold in the body worked by stimulating the life force and raising the level of vibration on all levels. The Alchemists of Alexandria developed an "elixir" made of liquid gold. They believed that gold was a mystical metal that represented the perfection of matter, and that its presence in the body would enliven, rejuvenate, and cure a multitude of diseases as well as restore youth and perfect health. In medieval Europe, gold-coated pills and "gold waters" were extremely popular. Alchemists mixed powdered gold into drinks to "comfort sore limbs," which is one of the earliest references to arthritis. During the Renaissance, Paracelsus (14931541) - who is considered the founder of modern pharmacology, developed many successful medicines from metallic minerals including gold. One of the greatest alchemists/chemists of all time, he founded the school of Iatrochemistry, the chemistry of medicine, which is the forerunner of pharmacology. In the 1900s, surgeons

would often implant a gold piece under the skin near an inflamed joint, such as a knee or elbow. As a result, the pain would often subside or cease altogether. In China, the restorative properties of gold are still honored in rural villages, where peasants cook their rice with a gold coin to replenish the mineral in their bodies, and fancy Chinese restaurants put 24karat gold-leaf in their food preparations. In the book of Exodus chapter 32 verses 19 and 20, it says: 19 When they came near the camp, Moses saw the calf and the dancing, and in terrible anger he threw the tablets to the ground, and they lay broken at the foot of the mountain. 20 He took the calf and melted it in the fire, and when the metal cooled, he ground it into powder and spread it upon the water and made the people drink it. Here are a few interesting facts about pure Gold: Only God can create Gold Gold is consistent No Inferior Gold Shapeable Indestructible Imperishable Withstands sea water Does not tarnish Resists acid Transition metal (transition means passage from one state, stage, subject or place to another; change; a movement, development or evolution from one form, state or style to another)

So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world. 8 You love him even though you have never seen him. Though you do not see him now, you trust him; and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy. 9 The reward for trusting him will be the salvation of your souls. 10 This salvation was something even the prophets wanted to know more about when they prophesied about this gracious salvation prepared for you. items,” he says. “Also, do a quick inspection of the tires, belts, hoses, lights, wipers and fluids. Do you see anything that needs to be addressed?” 2. Retain records. “Archive all maintenance done on your car,” says automotive technology educator John Hoopes. “For organizational purposes, use a notebook to record the type of service, who performed it, the date and the vehicle mileage. More importantly, keep a folder of all receipts, so you have concrete records if there is ever a warranty issue.”

When it comes to routine automobile maintenance, many women take a back seat. "You don’t have to be a ‘grease monkey,’ but every woman should know some basics of car maintenance. Who wants to be stranded? It’s better to take care of things, so you’re less likely to have a break-down." To increase the longevity of your vehicle and save time and money, consider these 10 maintenance basics offered by national automobile repair experts. 1.Read, check and inspect. Paul Davis, an adult education auto technology instructor, says reading the owner’s manual will help individuals locate, understand and operate different instruments on the vehicle and explain the manufacturer’s recommended maintenance intervals by time and mileage. “Whenever the oil is changed, check the manual to see if the car is due for one or more maintenance

3. Observe oil. “To increase the longevity of your car, change the oil at the manufacturer’s recommendation,” says Ed Kriston, AAA automotive expert. “Between changes, check the oil level regularly, particularly if you suspect a leak or have an older model. When the engine is cold, start the car and let it run for one minute then shut it off. Remove and wipe the dipstick then reinsert it into the tube and remove it again. Read the lines toward the bottom of the dipstick to determine the oil level. Add oil until it reaches the full line, then replace the dipstick. Use only the type of oil specified in the owner’s manual.” 4. Filling fluids. “Refer to the owner’s manual to determine where the receptacles for each of the fluids are, what the proper levels should be, how to read them, if the engine should be turned on or off and what type and grade of product to use,” says Davis. “Most important, don’t get them confused; put the proper fluid in the right receptacle.” 5. Appropriate inflation. “Check tire pressure every few weeks, particularly when there has been a dramatic change in outside temperatures,” says Kriston. “Use the psi listed either inside the driver’s door frame, in the glove box or under the fuel filler

door. Some people go by the number stamped on the outside of a tire, but that’s the maximum pressure, not the recommended pressure. To get a true reading, check pressure when the tires are cold. And don’t forget about the spare.” 6. Detect tire damage. “Cuts or grooves on the sidewall near the metal rim may mean the tire is losing air,” says Kriston. “To check tread depth, turn the tires to the right or left, then hold a penny between your thumb and index finger and place Lincoln’s head down into the tread. If you see the top of his head, you need new tires.” 7. Battery basics. Hoopes says, “Batteries more than three years old should be checked before winter and summer – times when most batteries fail.” “If you notice corrosion on the terminal, brush it off with a baking soda and water paste; then rinse. But remember, batteries can be dangerous, so wear safety glasses and rubber gloves,” he says. “If there’s a substantial amount of corrosion, the battery may need to be replaced.” 8. Look at lights. “Pull up to a storefront that has glass, turn on your headlights, switch to high beams and then put on your turn signals. Check

the tail lights the same way by backing in,” says Kriston. 9. Watch wipers. “If the blades streak, wipe them with a paper towel to remove build up,” says Davis. “If they still streak or chatter going across the window, get a new set. Tell the auto parts store your car’s make and model. They will give you the right size and may even put them on for you.” 10. Use your senses. “Look, listen, smell and even feel for changes in the way your vehicle operates,” says Hoopes. “Leaking fluid, knocking under the hood and pulsating brakes are just a few of the many telltale signs there is a problem that needs to be addressed.” Contact the ministry leader for more information at: liveagain@centerformanifestation.com

An Unqualified Man’s Viewpoint of Motherhood Bro. Keith Lashley gle with internal and external problems, some of which draw these young men back into the system over and over again. Yet their mothers show up time after time in the lobby of the youth detention center, not only to visit but to once again receive their children and try once more to overcome their adversities. I know it is difficult for mothers who have their own families and problems to reach out and help others but, as believers, we are charged with helping others in need. There are young people among us with incarcerated, missing or deceased parents who could benefit from the consistent nurturing of a substitute mother, even if it is for a few hours every couple weeks. There are young girls longing for a loving and friendly older “mother” in whom they can confide and obtain Godly wisdom. No one can teach a young mother how to be a better mother than another Godly mother, even one of a similar age. Godly mothers can talk to other mothers at the doctor’s office, on a bus, at church, even in a store aisle, sharing their struggles and offering a few simple words of encouragement that can make a huge difference in another family’s life. We plant seeds and it doesn't take long to do so. And only other mothers can truly identify with the struggles some face in their difficult nurturing roles. Buying groceries for a mother who is obviously struggling to pay for her items in a checkout line is one way. Or pressing a few dollars bills in her hand and telling her that God loves her is another way to spread the Gospel while offering practical assistance. If you are an empty nester, volunteer to babysit for a few hours or offer to pay for her to go to the hair and/or nail salon. Allow her to take in a movie or go for a walk. In fact, if you can, pay for her trip to the salon or movie theatre as well! So again I say, I am the least qualified to give advice to mothers. But I can observe the fruits of love. Most mothers are given a special love that has nurtured and preserved the human race since the beginning of time. As Believers, it is even more important to use the tool of motherly love to reach the lost. In doing so, the entire family may be brought into the arms of our loving Savior. Remember, He too had a loving mother, divinely chosen because of the importance of the work he was to accomplish on this earth. And His mother was instrumental in helping to prepare him for his earthly ministry by giving Him the love and support of a human woman to the earthly part of His divine self.

As a man who has never raised children, I will state that I am unequivocally unqualified to give advice to mothers. I can only write from observations and experiences throughout my life. Ultimately, motherhood is about nurturing and doing so no matter how bleak a situation may be. Good mothers know instinctively how to assuage their children's fears and convey a sense of love and security, regardless the circumstances. But what really marks a mother's life is her ability to impart these and other positive values into her children. A few years ago I was ministering at WT Edwards (youth detention center) to a group of incarcerated young men. One in particular, stood out from the group of rowdy youths in the classroom. He was obviously very intelligent even though he was quieter than the other boys. I asked him what was going on in his life. With great sadness in his eyes, and in a quiet voice he told me that his mother was a crack addict. There had been a drug bust at their house. She had been arrested previously and if she was arrested again, she would have gone to prison and he and his siblings would have been separated into foster homes. Looking into his eyes I could see his love for his mother, and a mature understanding love well beyond his years or even his capacity to truly understand. Despite the drugravished condition of his mother, he loved her and was willing to pay the price for her transgressions to keep her and her children together. The other young men quieted down to hear his story. I could see the empathy in some of their eyes as they recognized the sacrifice he had made. His mother had taught him how to love sacrificially, even as she herself continued to live as an addict. Again, I can never understand the workings of a mother's love, especially that of a single woman struggling to care for and provide for her children. Whenever I asked the Selah! question at WT Edwards, who here has a relationship with his father; invariably, only one or two if any of the young men at WT raise their hands.

But when asked about their mothers, almost all raise their hands. Several express regret for the pain they have caused their mothers. Both they and their mothers strug-

The Purpose of Convocation Deondrick Douglas Senior Pastor Champion's Life International Church

Holy Convocation is a sacred time ordained by God for the edification of the body of Christ. It has been observed by the church since the Old Testament. The Lord ordained seven holy convocations per year also known as the feast days. While we no longer observe the Old Testament feasts, we continue honoring the spirit and purpose of these sacred meetings at our annual convocation. So what is the purpose of convocation? The purpose is threefold. We are to remember, rehearse and to rest.

breakthrough. Like the day of Pentecost, as we are all gathered in one place on one accord. The atmosphere is charged with faith allowing the gifts to flow freely. During convocation the manifestation of signs/wonders is increased and readily available.

During convocation we remember and reflect on what God has done for us as a collective body. We celebrate His provision, protection and the deliverance of our church family as a whole. This remembrance serves to renew the strength of returning members and to ignite the faith of new members. It's through this process of remembering that we impart our core beliefs and values to our youth. Convocation is also about rehearsing in the sense of recital or a re-hearing. In the Old Testament the priest would read the law of God to the people. This helped to reaffirm the terms of the covenant they had with God and to remind them of what was required. Today, our Apostles, Pastor's and Prophets lead us in this recital by casting the vision of the house, laying out the directives of the coming year and dismantling strongholds/ mindsets which are not in line with faith in Jesus Christ. This is the portion of convocation where we are presented with the blue print for the body and we examine ourselves to see if we are in the I encourage you to embrace this time of year with faith. excitement and expectation. Sanctify yourselves Lastly, convocation is about rest. In the Old Testa- because the Lord will do great things. ment believers were instructed not to do any physical work. Today our rest is spiritual. Convocation is an environment where the connected faith of the body at large eliminates laboring for deliverance and

“Choice”

From the Seasoned Senior Ministry Mother Anne Winston, Ministry Leader

Theme Scripture: 3. The aged women likewise, that they be in behavior as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; 4. That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children. 5. To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands that the word of God be not blasphemed (Titus 2:3-5). “Choice” is the topic the Seasoned Seniors Ministry will focus on this month. And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord (Joshua 24:15).

Mother Anne Winston words of encouragement to “Choice:” Certain choices that we make can be damaging to us and our families for generations. Throughout Scripture we have seen the impact of various choices. Sin in Sodom and Gomorrah was grievous and it was going to be destroyed. Because of Abraham’s plea, Lot’s wife and his daughters were allowed to escape death. Lot lingered, and he and his family were led out of the city. They were told, “Escape for thy life; look not behind thee…” (Genesis 19:17). Lot’s wife made a choice, she looked back from behind and she became a pillar of salt. Joseph was sold by his brothers to the Ishmaelite’s and he ended up in Egypt. Joseph was brought by Potiphar, captain of Pharaoh’s guards, and was made an overseer in Potiphar’s household. Potiphar’s wife was attracted to Joseph and wanted him to lie with her. She spoke to him day by day. Joseph said, how can I do this great wickedness,

and sin against God? One day Potiphar’s wife grabbed Joseph’s garment saying lie with me, but Joseph fled and left his garment in her hand. Joseph made the choice that honored God (Genesis 39). God wants us, his children whom he loves, to accept Him as Lord and Savior of our lives through faith. Be obedient and serve him, but he gives us the option of choice. “And if it seems evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve…” (Joshua 24:15). In (Deuteronomy 28: 1-2), “And it shall come to past, if thou shall hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come on thee and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God.” The thief comes to steal, kill, and to destroy; but Jesus came that we might have life, and that we might have it more abundantly” (John 10:10). The choices that we make can make a difference in whether we have the abundant life that God promises. Make Faith based choices, based on what the Word says, what God says not what we see, think or even the facts. Faith and obedience will afford us God’s best. Although we may walk through the valley of the shadow of death, we do not have to fear evil for God is always, with us. No weapon formed against us will prosper.

Mother Kathleen Ransom words of encouragement to “Choice:” Choices, choices-that is what we do. Our decisions decide our outcome. “I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you the way you should go (Is. 48:17 NIV). Each one of us has a choice. We can choose to accept the things we can’t change and learn to act from the things we can change. “Stop blaming.” Just as Adam and Eve did, they blamed each other for their dilemmas. We should start taking responsibility for our own choices (Gen. 3:6-9).

created Adam. God will not violate our free will nor will he make choices for us. We can choose the Spirit of life in Christ (Romans 8:2). There is no possible way man can just do his own thing and think he is not making a choice (Matthew 12:30). All “choices” have consequences and will be for our betterment or it will work to destroy us. We are responsible for our choices. The Bible challenges us with this admonition; “I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing. Therefore choose life that both thou and thy seed may live” (Deuteronomy 30:19). Bible choices brings blessing to our future and it is determined by the choices we make today. Let us bring God into helping us make our decisions. In doing so, it will determine whether our future will be secured and have God’s blessing on it and declare as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord (Joshua 24:15). God promised Joshua good success if he obeyed the Words of God and chose to follow him (Joshua 1:8).

The Bible says; choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold (Prov. 8:1; James 1:3-7; Rom. 14: 11-12).) It is recorded in (Joshua 9:14) that Joshua and the elders were deceived by their circumstances. They did not inquire of the Lord and seek his counsel. We need to take the time to ask God foe his thoughts concerning our decision. “For my thoughts are not your thoughts neither are your ways Mother Greta Pearson words of encouragement to my ways” (Is. 55:8). “Choice:” What a great topic! I wonder do we know what “choice” really means. Let’s see the dictionary meaning; “is an I once read an article that said, “Oh he (God) isn’t going to give us what he knows will harm us even if we ask for it. He won’t act of selecting or making a decision when faced with two or give us what would spoil us or indulge our flesh.” But, as the more possibilities.” Let’s go biblical: 1. The act of choosing; God who knows all things and who does all things well, who is the voluntary act of selecting or separating from two or more an all loving Father, he long for us to ask him for everything, things that which is preferred; or the determination of the mind for daily bread (Mt. 6:11). The song writer, Chad Johnson said, in preferring one thing to another; election.” “We serve a good Father and we are loved by him. He is perfect in all his ways.” Yes, every day has choices and we must make And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and them. Mother Mary Wynn words of encouragement to “Choice:” There are choices we face on a personal level daily, “what shall we eat”? We can choose to eat healthy or just pig out on junk food. What does the Bible say about free-will choices? Free will or the freedom to make our own future choices is a very important issue in our society. Every day each of us choose to do things that we do. The “will” is how we exercise our freedom of choices. God gave man this freedom when he

“Living In Love”

From the Seasoned Senior Ministry Mother Anne Winston, Ministry Leader Theme Scripture: The aged women likewise, that they be in behavior as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children. To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands that the word of God be not blasphemed (Titus 2:3-5). “Living in Love” is the topic the Seasoned Seniors’ Ministry will teach about this month; since Valentine’s Day is portrayed as a day filled with love with many people expressing their love to each other. “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13). Mother Anne Winston’s words of encouragement to “Living in Love”: How can you live in love if you don’t know love? How can you know love if you don’t know Jesus? How can you know Jesus if you never commit yourself to him? “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16). “He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.” Living in love is living the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these. (Galatians 5:22-23).

others, but really loving them; hating what is wrong and holding tightly to what is good. Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. (Romans 12:9-10 NLT). Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony (Colossians 3:14 NLT). Three things will last forever-faith, hope, and love- and the greatest of these is love (1 Corinthians 13:13). Live in love. Mother Kathleen Ransom’s words of encouragement to “Living in Love:” Living in love under God’s control is a woman living her life to its highest and fullest. People talk of love but they do not live it. Until the love of Christ is in a heart, it is impossible for men to love one another. Love is demonstrated in our walk with Christ. It is in our livelihood, in our talk, and in our walk. Don’t just talk about what tickles me, but make me laugh. It will sound good to the ear. No sir, show me; show me in living your daily lives. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him (Roman 12:2). Don’t become so well adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You will be changed from the inside out. Recognize what he wants from you. We should let God bring the best out of us.

Men’s Business Attire What Colors Should You Wear We too often fall into the prejudice trap of judging by external appearances. It is easy and human nature to make snap judgements. It is important however, and cannot be overemphasized the importance of appearance when going for a job interview or prospering in a job environment. Just as important is the knowledge that what one wears can reinforce what one feels about oneself in a positive or negative way. This doesn't mean that one is free to "express oneself" or emphasize one’s individuality through outlandish apparel or hair styles in a business setting. It is a subjective issue but many people do not receive promotions because of the way they dress. It may not seem fair but it is an undeniable fact. There has been significant research over the years that prove that what one wears does affect how one feels when confronting another person in a job or during a business negotiation. (This part of the topic often goes unnoticed.) A recent article entitled “Communication and Clothing” made the following statement: “Another important aspect of your character that it is affected by clothing is communication. In a study reported by the Journal of Experimental Psychology, subjects were required to wear formal and informal clothing in negotiation meetings. Those who wore business suits performed much better, as they asserted dominance over the person with whom they were negotiating.“On the other hand, those wearing informal clothes, sweatpants to be precise, had much lower testosterone levels and had lower scores when it came to persuasion skills….” Another article entitled “Attention and Clothing” stated the following: “An interesting research published in the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology back in

2012, showed a higher level of concentration with people who were told that they were wearing a doctor’s white coat. Some of the study participants wore a painter’s smock, whereas others wore doctors’ coats. The ones dressed in doctors’ coats displayed incredibly higher results in attention to demanding tasks. …” That being said we will look at how the colors we wear can affect our dealings in the business setting. First we will deal with men this month and ladies next month. In our globally competitive world today, all companies look for hints about employees who will be an asset to their businesses. Men do not have the options that ladies do. But the way one dresses from the job interview to the corner office is very important in many environments.

Brown is usually a no-no color in business unless you are selling used cars or furniture in a showroom. Even then it should be a darker shade of brown, classy, with no stripes or window pane patterns. In general, don't waste your money on faddish clothes like 6-button suit jackets and/or bold geometric ties for business settings. (You will find those in a heap on the marked down counter.)

able knowledge to your sons, nephews, friends and more. When in doubt, thumb through the pages of men’s magazines like GC for hints. Your future is worth taking a little extra time and having fun doing so.

It is important to mention that many think appropriate dress and its impact on one’s success is “no longer relevant” or “old-fashioned” or for others. But Go for the “understated elegance” look. Have facts indicate otherwise. The appropriateness of what your suits and ties professionally cleaned and pressed. you wear affects you first, how you feel about yourDon't go cheap because once the fabric has been incor- self, how well you are able to “perform” at that morectly creased it will be difficult to repair if not impos- ment, and it affects how others see you and react to sible. Places like Marshalls, Burlington Coat Factory or Ross’ often carry universally recognized businessoriented designer labels like Ralph Lauren or Calvin Klein at seriously discounted prices. (One local source is the Dillard’s Discount Outlet at University Mall) The local men's shop in a strip mall will probably not have the quality suits you need. A sharp interviewer or successful businessman will know the difference. The ticking and padding in a men's suit along with the fabric that is used is how the quality of a suit is identified. In important meetings, summer wool blends work best here in Florida. Polyester and other synthetic suit fabrics have come a long way from the 70s and 80s, true, but you must be very careful that the suit does not look cheap. The fabric should never be shiny, especially if it is due to age or excessive ironing. Pocket squares and handkerchiefs are a big no-no in a business setting. Wear properly shined laced-up shoes, preferably cap toe. Two toned shoes are seen as too informal especially if they have white as one of the colors. A white shirt is preferred, no bright colors and no overwhelming patterns. Dressing correctly for a given situation is a learned art and one that is very important to master if you wish to impress an interviewer, your employers or someone with whom you wish to do business or obtain a contract. With research you can look like a million dollars and exude a positive image without spending a lot of money. Seems daunting? It can be when you are nervous or if the position you are looking to fill is higher than anything you have accomplished in the past. But seek help from a peer or a tailor when you go for alterations. Yes, they are expensive but you will learn and in doing so be able to pass on valu-

My Dad's Hands by David Kettler

Bedtime came, we were settling down, I was holding one of my lads. As I grasped him so tight, I saw a strange sight: My hands. . .they looked like my dad's! I remember them well, those old gnarled hooks, there was always a cracked nail or two. And thanks to a hammer that strayed from its mark, his thumb was a beautiful blue! They were rough, I remember, incredibly tough, as strong as a carpenter's vice. But holding a scared little boy at night, they seemed to me awfully nice! The sight of those hands - how impressive it was in the eyes of his little boy. Other dads' hands were cleaner, it seemed (the effects of their office employ). I gave little thought in my formative years of the reason for Dad's raspy mitts: The love in the toil, the dirt and the oil, rusty plumbing that gave those hands fits! Thinking back, misty-eyed, and thinking ahead, when one day my time is done. The torch of love in my own wrinkled hands will pass on to the hands of my son. I don't mind the bruises, the scars here and there or the hammer that just seemed to slip. I want most of all when my son takes my hand, to feel that love lies in the grip.

REAPING THE BENEFITS OF SPIRITUAL MENTORING Pastor Eddie Boles Greetings believers! In this edition, I would like to talk a little about the importance and benefits of having and accepting spiritual mentorship. We understand that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is our first and final mentor exemplified in the very Word of God, made manifest in the flesh, and who dwelt among men. However, He also gave us examples of this principle throughout scripture from as far back as Moses and Joshua, Eli and Samuel, Elijah and Elisha; and into the New Testament with Jesus and the disciples as well as the early church with the Apostle Paul and Timothy. The benefit of spiritual mentoring carries the potential of multiplying one’s growth exponentially in a short amount of time. Why? It’s all in God’s plan. He uses other’s shortcomings, mistakes, hardships, pain, and sufferings to cut our learning curves. You see as Christ’s return draws nearer and nearer, we must begin to grow and develop spiritually in a shorter amount of time, so that we may be equipped to teach and preach the gospel to others. As we develop relationship with our mentors, their example and testimony assists us with the practicality of walking with God daily as it pertains to spiritual things. I can personally testify of the many things I have learned from my mentor simply by watching his walk with God over the 15 or so years I’ve known him. This doesn’t include the many conversations where one word, thought, or suggestion has changed the course of

my life. Proverbs 27:17 says, “Iron sharpeneth iron so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.” This scripture can be interpreted iron sharpens iron so a man makes the presence of his friend fierce. Now can you see the benefit of true mentorship in your life? Consider Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 that reads, “Two are better than one because they have a good reward for their labor for if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow, but woe unto him that is alone when he falleth, for he hath not another to help him up. So we see from this verse productivity, accountability, and protection. I encourage every single believer to seek God concerning who he would have to act as a mentor in his/her life. When he reveals it to you, engage and don’t procrastinate. Why? Because someone else’s life may be at stake while you’re waiting. Benefits of Mentorship Promotes spiritual growth Provides accountability Encourages Helps establish and achieve goals Counseling you can trust Provides a role model ‘Til next time, God Bless and Peace be unto you
