It’s never too late to start your fitness journey

WHO AM I

I’m Janet a proud mother of two sons. I am a Qualified Salsa/Bachata Dance Teacher and Qualified Level 2Gym Instructor & Level 3 Personal Trainer. I have two health conditions, Fibromyalgia and Neurocardiogenic Syncope.

Also I’m 51 and Proud !

HISTORY AND EXPERIENCE

I have, from a very young age always been into dancing, contemporary dance, Latin and Ballroom, Salsa and Bachata and more recently Kizomba. I have been teaching Salsa and Bachata dance for 10 years and ran my own Salsa classes and club night under the name of Lets Go Salsa! I have also been a regular gym goer and had a few Personal Trainers to help me on my journey. I left attending the gym for a period due to ‘Life’ getting in the way but also suffering from a condition I did not understand at the time. It was around 2002 that I was diagnosed with having Neurocardiogenic Syncope (a type of faint) and it was 2013 that I was also diagnosed with having Fibromyalgia, a condition that causes chronic pain and many other symptoms. I was ready to give up my dancing in 2013 as dancing was becoming exhausting, painful and caused many Fibromyalgia flare-ups. After being diagnosed with Fibromyalgia I did my own research on the condition and found there was a specialist clinic in London which had a Fibromyalgia pain management course. I asked immediately for a referral which turned out to be the best thing I could’ve done as it changed the way I thought and felt about having the condition. The consultant advised me not to give up dancing but to actually try going to the gym and doing some light weights......best advice I had ! It gave me kick start I needed and I went back to the gym, got a Personal Trainer and I’ve never looked back since. Attending the gym has improved my quality of life, I’m stronger, healthier, happier and my fibromyalgia , I now control it, it does not control me. I have been on my fitness journey consistently for the last 6 years and I continue to challenge myself and my learning never stops.

Inspiring our future generations

2021 is a big year for Wilfred Emmanuel-Jones aka The Black Farmer, with two major initiatives in the pipeline – a celebration of Windrush Day in June, and The Black Farmer online Farmshop.

Wilfred says “I am proud to be part of the Windrush Generation, it has played such an important part in my story. It is really good to see that now it’s a permanent fixture in the British annual calendar to celebrate the positive impact that those of the Windrush Generation have had on British society,” says Wilfred. “Following on from my hugely successful initiative last year celebrating Black History Month in October, for Windrush Day I have again managed to get all the major UK supermarkets engaged in celebrating our Windrush Heroes.”

Wilfred has developed a special range of Sweet Chilli sausages for the occasion – with flavours reminiscent of the Caribbean. Sweet Chilli Pork and Sweet Chilli Chicken gluten free sausages will feature a picture of Wilfred as a six-year-old boy when he first arrived in the UK from his birthplace of Clarendon, Jamaica.

“I have created these sausages to honour and recognise the outstanding contribution made by those, including my family, who came to this country in the 1950s and have played a huge part in inspiring our future generations. As one of the Windrush generation, I feel it is important to create greater national awareness of this special day.”

Alongside the packs of The Black Farmer products in store, Wilfred has commissioned a poster and social media campaign to spread the message far and wide.

His greatest wish is for every young person to achieve their dreams ”

“I am using the strapline ‘Inspiring the Future’ and I hope that my personal story will be an inspiration for any black youngster who has dreams to be whatever they want to be,” he says. As with everything Wilfred does, his greatest wish is for every young person to achieve their dreams and their full potential.

On a completely different note, Wilfred is excited about the launch of his new, updated and massively expanded website for his online Farmshop.

“I launched my online Farmshop late last year, and consumer response has been fantastic. So, I knew the concept worked and I have been on a mission ever since to expand the range of products on offer to my customers.”

So much so that Wilfred has now set up his own fulfilment centre so he can offer a far more personal service to customers, and, more important, many more products.

“I have put together a group of local quality producers who offer a far wider range of meat and poultry. I have also now added a fabulous range of fresh fish, condiments and deli items. My range of handmade pies are truly exceptional, and I can’t wait for people to try them! And then of course my famous gluten free sausages – our online best sellers. Our Jerk Chicken and Jerk Pork sausages launched during Black History month to much acclaim have become a priority item for many of my customers! A range of beer and wine have been added so that customers can have something good to drink to accompany their meal.

Customers can make up their own box or choose from a choice of ‘set boxes’ which offer a preselected bundle of products designed to suit any number of occasions.

The newly expanded site is due to go live at the beginning of May.

“All in all, 2021 has gone off with a bang and I am looking forward to seeing these initiatives come to fruition as the year progresses!” concludes Wilfred. n

Las Olas has been a brand that has been in the works since 2018, it came about through travels and what we realised is the whole diaspora is disconnected, and there’s a way we can connect everyone through rum.

As London boys from African and Caribbean decent there no alcohol that represents the unity and multicultural way we grew up. Las Olas means waves in Spanish but doesn’t play in to the pirate theme with dark history. In fact we pay homage to the Garifuna community we visited in Guatemala, decedents of ship wrecked slaves from west Africa who landed in St Vincent and created their own communities.

We launched Las Olas in December 2019 and since then we have been embraced by some of the UKs biggest stars like Stormzy and many others, We steadily progressed and was affected by the pandemic like everyone else but we were supported heavily by our community. This gave us an idea, why stop at Rum we want to be there on your best days and we want to be the gift you choose for a loved one or treat for yourself. We will be rolling out a list of new products this year, especially a father’s day box full of items that will never be sold again, Subscrip-

tion boxes plus more. Growing up in London is one thing we wouldn’t change; we are hoping our story connects with many young people across the world that come from similar backgrounds as a source of inspiration, our goal is to change and educate the world one bottle and one gift at a time. n

Realign Life is the professional cover for a few of my personal missions firstly; to encourage more and more people to identify and act on their strengths, needs and wants. Secondly; improve the daily experiences of employees by having them factor first in organisational decision making.

A sociologist at heart, my work is human process and culture focused. I am enamored by the connection my work affords me; particularly in a coaching setting where I am able to witness the growth of a person discovering something new about themselves, overcoming barriers or disrupting ways of thinking that no longer serves them.

Realign Life was born from my intense dislike for unnecessary processes that get in the way of delivering transformational people strategies. I have worked with (and for) organisations where the needs of employees rarely come first, creating working environments where talented people leave or stay long enough to lose themselves in ‘the way things have always been done’.

Inspired by experiences and thoughts shared with others, I create products and resources designed to guide personal reflection and encourage richer connections with others. Two areas that I love. I (along with a wonderful network of learning professionals) continue to support leaders as they build people centered environments. The way I see it; happier, confident and more connected people can only have a positive effect on the world around them. n

GMIX is good for you

Introduction

We are proud to reintroduce our ginger juice drink - GMIX Juice. GMIX juice is made with fresh ingredients, has no added sugars, additives or preservatives and tastes great. This freshly squeezed juice drink, combines the natural sweetness of honey with a kick of ginger - all brought seamlessly into focus through the fresh taste of lime. The very best quality ingredients are used in every bottle and you will find it’s balanced blend of the tropics, smooth and refreshing - with a taste that will make you come back for more.

Brief History

GMIX was established in 2016 by husband and wife Olrick and Siobhan Coker. As professional singers, the couple found they needed a boost to keep up with their demanding vocal schedule and set out to create a product which combined the benefits of vocal preservation within a healthy juice drink - therein GMIX Juice was born.

We soon realised that GMIX also boosts the immune system, decreases inflammation, promotes healthy digestion and provides quick hydration to name a few. As a result of these discoveries, GMIX is now a juice drink which helps and promotes the wellness of the body as a whole.

What Next?

As we move into an age where we are more health conscious, GMIX Juice is determined to ‘take the hard work out of being healthy.’ We will be introducing two new heats in the coming months which will be Mild (for kids) and Hot for the fiery ginger lovers. We currently provide 2 bottle sizes: a box of seven 100ml bottles (perfect for you to have a bottle for each day of the week) and a box of four 250ml bottles. n

Sunrise Bakery Celebrates 55 Years of Giving the Caribbean Community a “Taste of Home”

Sunrise Bakery is one of the UK’s oldest family-run Caribbean craft bakeries. Established in 1966 in Smethwick, Birmingham, the Founders, Herman Drummond and William Lamont, opened their own business to the local Caribbean residents offering “A taste of home”.

Three generations on, the bakery has become one of the largest supplier of Caribbean hard dough bread, cakes, and Jamaican spiced buns in the UK, producing over two million products annually across 300 stores, including Asda, Sainsburys, Tesco, and Morrisons.

Sunrise Bakery is now run by Herman’s son, Errol Drummond, and grandson, Daniel Drummond. Errol believes that at the heart of the bakery’s success is the business’ commitment to supporting the local and wider community in the UK and in the Caribbean.

“Since my dad first opened the bakery 55 year ago, we have strived to make our products the gold standard of Caribbean baking. We recognise that our anniversary wouldn’t be possible without our customers, and that’s why we have always given back by supporting social initiatives that aim to empower our communities.”

Daniel, the bakery’s sales and marketing manager, added, “throughout the next month, we’ll also be delivering our tropical cakes to the African-Caribbean charities that have supported the elderly throughout the pandemic.”

As part of their 55th anniversary celebration, Sunrise Bakery will be launching a new range of vegan cakes and a luxury boxed bun later this year. And as an ongoing effort to keep their products available to customers, the bakery will soon be launching an online store at

My name is Michael Scott and I am a science teacher and online tutor from Nottingham. I qualified as a science teacher from the University of Nottingham in 2008 and began my career as a teacher, inspiring young people all across the city of Nottingham.

I have always been fascinated when demonstrating science experiments in class which lead me to start a youtube channel and Instagram page sharing my passion of all things science, regularly uploading videos and content to engage and inspire others to pursue studying science. Many people regularly reached out to me on facebook and Instagram asking what science experiments they could do at home with their children and people would send me pictures of them doing the science experiments at home.

Then when the Covid 19 pandemic hit and schools were closed more and more people were asking what they could do to supplement their own home schooling.

That’s when I thought to develop my own science experiment subscription,

I got to work on Box Lab straight away developing ideas for experiments, content, logos and online science shows to build awareness. So what is Box Lab – as a teacher and a parent I know that young people like to be amazed and they expect that from science lessons, unfortunately students may not get the practical experience from science and many will switch off before their GCSEs. Box Lab is aimed to engage young people (aged 7-12) in science and encourage learning through exploration and creativity. Scientific skills are vitally important for solving tomorrows problems Box Lab prepares your child for the new world ahead!
