from the publisher

Another year and another Derby season has passed by to record fanfare. And what a great time it truly was. It seems that no matter how much we think the prior year’s Derby weekend could not be topped, along comes the next year to top them all – and Derby 141 was no different as Churchill Downs saw over 170,000 fans turn out for the big race – more than any other time in its history. The time honored venue plays host to multiple events throughout the year but no doubt, shines the brightest on the first Saturday of May truly bringing our city to life. With the spotlight on our old Kentucky home we become a patchwork of phenomenal parties, renowned celebrities and of course, Throughbreds – and we made sure to capture all of the excitement. My husband, Jonathan, and my daughters, Talia and Tamar were delighted to welcome the New York Jets’ Nick Mangold along with his beautiful wife Jenny, as well as his mother and grandmother. We were so happy to take them around town and show them everything our city has to offer during the most exciting time of the year and to witness firsthand the greatest two minutes in sports. Our tireless photographers made sure to capture every inch of the historic weekend, from the red carpet to the finish line and everywhere in between, so please enjoy our offering and a chance to relive just some of what makes our city so great within the pages of The Voice-Tribune’s third annual Derby wrap-up. I can’t wait to see what Derby 142 has in store – until next year!

Enjoy!
